I absolutely loved this first book in the new series Reap This, as it’s full of Norse mythology and the Norse Gods who as usual are up to their crazy troubles and interfering in mortal’s lives. In this novel we get to meet the reapers for the souls into the netherworld, and apart from Hel there are two main factions who seem to fight over who gets to reap the most souls. The white faction which was ruled by Odin the great father, had the divine reapers who radiated light, whilst the black faction, ruled by Freya, Odin’s wife, had the Imperium reapers who were dark. Geirolf was a divine reaper and he reaped for Valhalla, whilst Oria was an imperium reaper and reaped for Folkvangr, and these two were a mirror image of one another except for their colour. They had also once been betrothed to one another, but when the God’s rift took place they found themselves working for a different faction and enemies so to speak. Now Oria was a rebel and when she realised that Geirolf had been assigned a mortal to guard and then reap for Valhalla she thought she would steal the soul for her side but things were not as simple as she envisaged and the story gets very complicated from thereon. She breaks the rules on so many counts as she gets involved with the mortal Maxwell which was against the rules, then sees that he is marked by Odin himself and believes he is a harbinger of Ragnarok which would wipe out all nine worlds totally so tries to stop this from happening, forming alliances which got her deeper into trouble and Freya was not happy at all. Angering the Gods is never recommended and things turned real messy. I love the plot, the anarchistic character of Oria and the romance which is still alive between Geirolf and Oria, and I am hoping that this will grow in the books to follow. I am sure Oria will keep taking us on dangerous adventures as it’s in her character to do so.
