My Brother's Girl

Rate this book
There’s only one woman I’d give up my bachelor’s lifestyle for… my brother’s girl.
But she was mine first. High school. Youth. Innocence.
I can still taste her on my lips if I close my eyes.
And here she is, back in my life, dating my brother.
A brother that doesn’t know my past because I’m a private sort of guy.
No way in hell I’m hurting him by giving into the overwhelming desire to take back what’s mine—with force.
That sounds like a great plan until he tries to hire her to run our New York investment firm beside us.
Having her near leaves my heart racing and my caveman tendencies flaring.
I left that life beside her behind and have regretted it since the day I did it.
Now my past is catching up to me, and I’m faced with the most jacked-up decision ever.
Follow my heart and give my girl the life and love she wants…
Or leave her with my brother as arm candy and watch from the sidelines as she lives in his shadow.
Loyalty or love?
And is there a way to have both?

Ali Parker has written a wonderful second chance romance. Caden and Olivia will take you on an emotional roller coaster as their love story rekindles. They were high school sweethearts who broke up because of a misunderstanding. He's high living, arrogant, wealthy bachelor and determined to stay that way. He has no interest in settling down or falling in love. Fate brings them together when she starts dating Luke but she has no idea that he is not only Caden's business partner but his step-brother. Plenty of drama and no shortage of explosive chemistry. Some family dynamics to spice things up. Well written with a strong, engaging story line and likable characters. A good book that I read as an arc and voluntarily chose to review. Another winner from Ali.

This is a sweet second chance romance between high school sweethearts Olivia and Caden. The author does a beautiful job bringing this heartfelt story filled with tons of emotions and weaving a steamy romance with tension and forgiveness along the way. It's well written, moves fluidly and I loved reading.

I expected a steamy romance story, and that's exactly what Ali Parker gave me. This second chance love story is well written, has an excellent storyline, and likable characters. My Brother's Girl offers drama, angst, rumors, a misunderstanding, forgiveness, loyalty, explosive chemistry, and plenty of steam.

I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.

This was a good read. It went different than I thought it would. Caden and Olivia were high school sweethearts. Then someone starts spreading rumors and cause them to break up. Neither ever got over each other. Then on day 6 years later they see each other. Of course both are still upset but they were finally able to get their second chance at love.

Really 3.5 but I enjoyed it enough to bump it up. I really liked Caden but new Olivia wasn't my cup of tea. And I don't like cheating

I hated all the characters & the storyline. Thought the reason they broke up in high school was ridiculous. Then how could Olivia be so stupid to not research who Lukes partners are at the firm. Especially when it has the same last name as Caden’s.

In my opinion this could be a book about second chance but without the brother, I get that was the point of the book but it just made the heroine come off as a bit of a hooker and the lie for them to break up should be believable enough for them to end an 8 year relationship without talking or explaining themselves.

A lot of spoilers ahead!!!!

Reasons why this book didn't work for me:

1- In the first 3 chapters we are introduced to Caden and Olivia's relationship, in chapter 12 they both had sex for the first time, and we are made to believe that they both wanted to marry each other and were together for 8 years, how, and I mean HOW can they both believe the other badmouthed them to the entire school about the night they had sex (and they both knew that Rachel or whats-her-face knew they were going to have sex) and ruined an 8 year relationship and no one questioned it?

2- How in the 8 years they were together did H not talk about his step-brother with h, like, they were going to marry...

3 - After the whole shindig at the school, they both ran to the same city (NYC) and went to the same college (NYU) and were in the same class one year apart, and never saw each other ????

4 - In the 3 years the h was with H's brother, Luke never talk about the brother that he was working with... And she didn't even did research about the company before wanting to work there????

5 - I thought the h was disgusting... She was all over the place and was always horny, when she was having sex with Luke she was thinking of Caden, it was just a disaster, and why write Caden having sex with another girl (was it to make up for the sex the h was getting???). Even when the H and her were on better terms and talking and had a kiss, she went to Lukes office and wanted to have sex with him (picturing Caden ofc) but Caden interrupted because they had to get ready for a meeting like how horny can you BE????? Why write an heroine so disgusting... I want Caden to find someone else...

6 - At the end I though the way Luke found out was ver anti-climactic.

7 - It was just a mess of a book, it was poorly written and it had A LOT of plot holes.

If you made it far enough, thank you for coming to my rant talk. 😊

3, maybe 3.5 stars. Maybe some spoilers but nothing you can't already figure out based on the synopsis and knowing there's a HEA.

I read this book because of the higher ratings (4.27 when I read it) and so many 5 star reviews. I do enjoy a good triangle story but felt this one fell short.

The characters were ok. But the story wasn't 100% believable and as a result I had a hard time really feeling what they felt.

Olivia and Caden lost their virginity to each other in high school at graduation time. Another school person (very obviously) spread horrible rumors about it. So the fact that they blamed each other just wasn't realistic. Anyone reading the first chapters with them would know they wouldn't do that, therefore, in my mind, they should know that too. But instead, they broke up their 8 years of love (he liked her since he was 10) without ever hearing each other out. Really?

They also both went to the same University and majored in the same subject too... A year apart. But many people in the same major pass each other at one point. But ok, I will partially buy that since it's a big University and she spend part of it remote/online.

Olivia worked at a great firm already where her mentor was at but she so badly wanted to work at Taylor, Taylor, and B (whatever his name was - not relevant). Yet she had no idea anything about the partners there? Just that she was screwing Luke Taylor to get in to the place? Again, really? You wouldn't do research on how to win over the other partners and not rely solely on your relationship to get you in? Come on now. Rule 101 is to research the company you want to work at when you're at that level.

Then Caden and Olivia realize who the other is and don't know what to do. Olivia puts her desire to get the job first and claims she doesn't love Caden anymore (while also not loving Luke) and Caden pretends he's over her since she messed up his life. They make snide remarks about the past but never actually talk about it until the very end of course. Clearly them both accusing each other of sabotage should be a clue that a third party was making the comments that split them up.

And Luke then found out in the most horrible way possible. And really, I'm surprised he did even show up since that's not really his personality. He is a guy of convenience and appearance and seeing as he was cheating on her two days prior with someone who had a boyfriend, why would he go surprise his girlfriend? He clearly doesn't care about her the way he should

So the book seemed a bit long to get through everything at a bit unrealistic with dealing with this particular triangle. But hey, in the end, Caden got his girl, Olivia got her man, and Luke was going to find himself. 🤷‍♀️

Olivia and Caden high school sweethearts with one week till graduation have it all..or so they think. How could the night they give themselves to each other crumble everything around them and leave them piecing their lives together without the other?? Now six years later in a different city Olivia and Caden are face to face and the lives they've built after crumbling once again. The problem is Olivia's is the elusive girlfriend of Caden's bad boy step brother Luke. When Caden and Olivia dated in high school Caden kept Olivia away from Luke so they'd never met or knew of each other. Rumors broke them in high school blaming each other and never finding the truth. Now those feelings are stronger with age but Caden can't hurt his brother with the truth about their past. There is no love between Olivia and Luke but she's willing to settle and agree to a marriage to Luke since she can't have the one she loves. When it becomes apparent that Luke is cheating on Olivia the game changes. Can Olivia continue to work at the brother's investment firm?? Someone is definitely going to get hurt in this jacked up situation!! Will love overcome the past and continue into the present?? Alli Parker really throws us a wrench with this story... but it's ohhhh sooooo good!!! It was unexpected to visit with Dana from "His Many Rules " but a great refresher. Maybe she can give Luke a happy story... but make him work for it. A MUST READ!!! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and purchased a copy for my favorites collection. Looking forward to the next Ali Parker story!!!

Ugh

This is very well the last Ali Parker book I will read. I went through her list of books checking through the ones I have read. For someone who has written so much, one would think they would be getting better at it. Instead, I have realized that she has no intent of improving her writing style. Her objective it to produce books with enough pages to make her editors and readers happy. There is a lot of internal angst with the major characters. It is repeated so often who cares?

My Brother’s Girl. This book wants us to all buy into the idea that a young couple dating for years finally have intercourse that is so intimate yet not perfect because they are both inexperienced would suddenly believe the other threw them under the bus.

These 2 people were suppose to be in love and planning to marry one day. They were 18. Neither one asked “why”? None of their parents asked why? None of their friends asked why? No one close to them both asked over a 6 year period?

That was the entire point of the book. It would be okay if the book was filled with twists and turns.

Since there really is no story, there is no connection felt for these people. The sex with Luke was so crude yet the sex with Caden so loving. I was disgusted with Olivia. I would be just as disgusted if the situations were reversed and Caden was pictured as user for one woman and a lover of another.

Another thing that really annoyed me. If Olivia is blonde, why is there a brunette woman on the cover?!!

Olivia and Caden were high school sweethearts, everyone believed that they were the IT couple and would eventually get married. However, during their senior year of high school rumours got around about them that they each believed the other person started and Olivia broke up with Caden.

Fast forward six years and Caden and his step-brother Luke have started and maintained a successful investment firm. Although successful, Caden yearns for something more, his old simple life and the girl that still holds his heart after all these years.

Olivia on the other hand is a up and coming investment manager who happens to be working at a competiting firm. Olivia has spent the last six years trying to forget the boy she loved and have had an off again on again relationship that lasted the past three years... to Luke, Caden's step-brother.

Luke convinces Olivia to work at his and his step-brother's firm, which of course ensues some awkward moments between the three of them, except that Luke is oblivious to the past between Olivia and Caden.

I couldn't fully like any of the characters because they all made some pretty bad choices, but I do like that Luke treats Caden like a real brother, that Olivia is trying her best after the hurt she's had, and I like that Caden still loves the girl he loved six years ago even though rumours tore them apart.

I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is the latest romance by the fabulous best selling author, Ali Parker, and it's going to pull you right in and refuse to let you put it down until you've finished reading all of it! Caden and Olivia were high school sweethearts at least, until nasty rumours started going around their school. This story tells us about their second chance at love. Six years pass after their breakup and the next time they meet is when she is dating Caden's step-brother, Luke! But Caden still loves her and he's certain that she still loves him but is just arm candy for Luke! Now Olivia is now an investment banker and Caden is a partner with his brother and he wants Olivia to work with them. How will Caden manage to curb his love for her? Can there be a HEA for them as surely if they are together it means Luke will be heartbroken? Be prepared for amazing characters that are so well written that it's almost as if you 'know'them - warts and all! Tension, twists, plenty of anguish but ,oh so, very much love in abundance in this wonderful book that had me in it's thrall from beginning to end. I received a reader's copy of this book and voluntarily leave my honest opinion of it here. Most definitely recommended!

Promising romance, contains spoilers

Promising start to high school sweethearts who waited for each other. However loose lips gets in the way and loves young dream is no more. Fast forward six years and the girl is now dating her ex's brother.

I liked it but caden started cracking on to Olivia despite her dating his brother luke.
Luke was enamoured with Olivia and their sex life off the charts. I don't understand why the author took the convenient way out. Olivia lived up to her false reputation and shamelessly flirted and encouraged caden despite being in a three year relationship albeit off and on with Luke.
I didn't like the end nor the direction of the characters. There would be no way that a person would have a few drinks and be so accepting.
I liked the story and the characters but with a few more chapters and character development it would have been more powerful.
I think the author should have tapped into the emotional connection of the characters with the reader. Caden became bland and Olivia was unlikable . I get they were fated but I didn't like the convenience for major events concerning luke.
It is however well written otherwise and worth a look

Six years since that rumor destroyed both of their lives. It’s time for them to get back together. Great book.

Oh, young love, the kind that last forever. Rumors and teenagers are a lethal combination. And what’s worse? Everybody believes them. Caden loses the love of his life, Olivia. Caden has been in love with Olivia since he was 10 years old and she ghosts him. She is tired of being called every nasty name in the book and the remainder of her senior year is a living nightmare. It’s six years later and they are crossing paths again, working at the same company. Neither one of them know that Olivia is dating Camden‘s brother Luke. What a blow to the ego. The only problem is, will they ever get the opportunity to be alone together to hash it out? Oh I hope so.. Why is everything so much worse when you’re a teenager. Because that’s your entire life.. Six years not loving your lifetime love is a long time. It feels a whole lot longer than six years. And there’s no way that you can move on. this is so beautifully written especially when Olivia and Caden realize what really happened. Loved it.

I wanted to love this story unreservedly. Now, you know I adore a second chance. But I have a history and a couple steamer trunks worth of emotional baggage that mean I’m not a fan of books with cheating in them. Particularly when it involves our leading couple engaging in the questionable ethics. Depending on your personal opinion, Caden and Olivia’s story could be called either way. I would have preferred a more clearly defined ending before starting something new, though. For the most part, I loved Caden. I could so easily see myself in his passive-aggressive snarking. Olivia kind of baffled me. I’m guessing it has a lot to do with how far away I am from being a hormonal teenager anymore. I couldn’t understand how it took such a smart woman six years to figure out what went wrong. In any case, this story is full of high drama and angst as well as the author’s signature spice.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "MY BROTHER'S GIRL" This story will pull you right into all drama, emotional, tension, steamy scenes, twists that make for a very enjoyable read.
Caden and Olivia were highschool sweethearts that broke up and now 6yrs later he finds out she's dating his brother Luke.
Caden won't try to take Olivia back he was always private about his personal life so Luke wasn't aware that his brother dated Olivia in the past.
Olivia is an investment banker and Caden is a partner with his brother Luke and he wants her to work with them.
Caden still has feelings for Olivia and thinks that she loves him to his brother only uses her as arm candy can they get a second chance at love will this cause major problems between Caden and Luke.
This is defintely a must read so well written by Ali Parker she pull out all the stops the characters were well developed, interesting, captivating, and pulled you right into their delemma. AWESOME READ!!!!!

Nothing is more precious that your first love when you are in high school. This was the story between Olivia and Caden where they had young love and had always planned to be married. However, they parted and six years had escaped them. Olivia goal was to work for Taylor, Taylor and Barden. During Olivia third year in school she meets Luke Taylor during her time in school and becomes his boyfriend. Olivia did accomplishment one goal that was to work at Taylor, Taylor and Barden where she made a major impact with her accounting knowledge. Oh the other hand Caden had a very hard time keeping his mind on work because of Olivia who was more than beautiful to his eyes. This back and forward romance goes on for a while before both realized that their love never died from when they were younger. This is truly a classic romance story. Well Done!! This book was definitely not what I expected but exactly what I needed! I really enjoyed it and read it in one sitting!

Caden and Olivia were high school sweethearts separated due to their peers spreading rumors. They meet again 6 years later and Olivia is now dating Caden’s step-brother.

I actually didn’t think author would go there, but there was cheating involved so heads up!
I didn’t mind it, although the ending did feel rushed and I wanted more of Caden and Olivia when they finally reunited. It just felt like everything was wrapped up too quickly and also resolved too easily with Luke.

Nevertheless, this was well written book with addictive and engaging storyline and likable characters!

I received an advanced copy of this book from author and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

This story goes to show you just how cruel young people can be and how lies can destroy peoples lives. Caden has loved Olivia since he was young and they became high school sweet hearts, that is until people started spreading ugly rumors about them.
6 years later they find themselves working together the only thing is Olivia is dating Caden’s stepbrother Luke. The feelings between Caden and Olivia are definitely still there, but now that she is dating Luke what will happen?
Ali Parker has once again delivered a 5-star book! Although it’s a bit of a game changer from what she usually writes, the storyline was strong, with lots of drama, lies, cruelty and hurt. You can’t help but to pull for this couple and you won’t want to put this book down.
I was honored to be given an ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review 😊

Ooh, this is a fantastic book! I love a good second chance at love story, but this particular book ramps up the tension by adding quite the surprising relationship revelation in the mix. The history between Olivia and Caden goes back to when they were in high school and things were looking promising for them post graduation, but of course there's some issue that comes along and destroys what they have, and they don't communicate about what went down (or didn't), effectively putting an end to their relationship. The game has changed 6 years later with a startling realization of who Olivia is currently dating, and his connection to her ex Caden. Plenty of drama and secrets come out and I literally stayed on my couch from start to finish reading as quick as I could to find out how everything was going to play out and I was not disappointed.

Great Writing....Good Even When Its Bad!

Ali did a great job writing this story. As many times as I had moments of irritation, her writing and character explanations made you feel okay about the outcome. I honestly did not think that I would like the story, overall, after I got over halfway through. Based on the type of relationship involved between the brother and the girl, I was a little squeamish about how it would be played out, in a practical way. Her description of Caden and Olivia at the beginning of the story and Caden's personality 6 years later made you root for him and his happiness. And even though Luke was not the best person, you like him. I'm convinced there is going to be another story about this family starring Luke as our alpha male.

This is an amazing story. Caden and Olivia were high school sweethearts whose love life was broadcast all over the school resulting in her splitting up with Caden. Fast forward and now she is out of college well into her career and dating Luke who happens to be Caden's stepbrother. None of the parties are aware that they know each other until Olivia start working with them and here is where the drama begins. This story is about redemption and lover overcoming pain to rekindle what was once lost and forgiving betrayals. You are caught up into the story of Caden, Luke, and Olivia as they find their way to solving their dilemma. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.

My Brother's Girl. What an unusual twist to a story. I liked the twist. It took a little while to understand the truth behind the breakup of Caden and Olivia. A secret told destroyed Caden and Olivia 's relationship for six years. Who would have thought they would see each other again and working together because of Caden's brother. But finally learning the truth helped Caden and Olivia set their hearts aflame and started their love they never forgot in their hearts. Only one obstacle stood in there way, Luke. A great book to read! *** I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s. ***

Young true love lost. Two people Olivia and Caden have many issues between them after their breakup: trust, loyalty, angst, sex, and committment. Luke was Caden’s step-brother who helped him get over the loss of the love of his life Olivia. Olivia attended NYU attaining her financial degree. Caden and his brother started a very successful Investment Firm in NYC. Luke had been dating Olivia for the past three years. Caden was unaware that Luke was dating HIS Olivia. Olivia is MINE. There are many twists and turns in this hopefully second chance at love story well written by Ali Parker.

Ali Parker definitely pulls on the heartstrings in this story. Olivia and Caden thought they'd be together forever... after what should have been the start of something amazing, life takes a cruel twist leaving both heartbroken and feeling betrayed. Fate isn't finished with them though, and brings them back together in another cruel twist as Caden discovers Olivia is dating his stepbrother, Luke, someone who is family, but also someone he doesn't respect in many ways. There is plenty of drama to this story and pulls to the heartstrings as they muddle their way through their emotions as truths are revealed. Plenty of steamy scenes as well, so definitely for the 18+ crowd.

I received a free copy of the steamy novel My Brother's Girl: Olivia and Caden by Ali Parker and this review was given freely.
An ironic and steamy, emotion and tension filled but ultimately heartwarming romance set partly on a ranch in Houston, Texas and partly in the financial sector in New York.
This then and now romance features a love that endures despite a vindictive prank that separates childhood sweethearts Caden and Olivia as well as the growth of a close knit bond that starts out between older step brothers Caden and Luke.
