3.5 stars!!
First…this book was SHORT. Like a novella, which was very disappointing because I was super into it!!
If you’re looking for a typical Daddy romance, this isn’t it.
In fact, the only aspects of this dynamic we see on page involve Leith calling Axel “Daddy” and Axel calling Leith “Sweetboy”
That’s it. We get one sex scene in the book at the very end, and it’s very much a “normal” scene.
There is no discipline, no punishments, nothing of the sort.
This made sense to me because of what Leith went through in the past with his last Daddy, and also the trauma he faced more recently.
Honestly though…I will say I’m not normally a fan of Daddy romances…….but shockingly, I wanted MORE!!!
With any type of power exchange relationship, I feel a bit uncomfortable with it. I’m very independent and hate people telling me what to do, so when I see a character in that position (even when they like it!) I get a little claustrophobic.
BUT!!!!
“We’ll be partners, and if you choose to put your trust in me, to give me the honor of taking care of you, I promise you, sweet boy, I will never abuse it.”
I’ve realized that THIS verbalization is what I have always needed to enjoy power exchange dynamics.
I loved that Axel was clear that they were still equals no matter what, and that he wouldn’t ever hurt Leith.
And then Leith:
“The way he took care of me, but still gave me the space to make my own decisions—unless I asked him for help—had completely cemented my decision to trust him.”
YESSS!!!!!! This is perfect and exactly what I needed to hear to put myself at ease about this dynamic.
So yes, I wanted MORE. More of their relationship, more of the whole book, even more of the Daddy dynamic!!
