Colin has a dark side… one that takes me places I've never been
Everyone thinks Colin Fairgood is exactly what his PR machine tells them—a country superstar with a killer smile and dazzling blue eyes.
But I met him before his country makeover and the fame. Colin has a dark side… one that takes me places I've never been. One that makes me want to do very bad things with him. One that makes me scared of him. And even more scared of myself.
I don't know what kind of endgame he's running on my heart, but he's definitely playing for keeps. And if I'm not careful, he's going to win.
But what happens when he finds out about my past? And discovers all my secrets?
One thing’s for sure: when country superstar Colin Fairgood collides with me, a songwriter with everything to lose, it’s going to be one hell of a story.
Reader Beware: This dark romance is not for the faint of heart or sensitive. It's guaranteed to please those who prefer extra hot loving with a wickedly kinky hero. But seriously, do not One-Click the heat unless you know how to handle the FLAME!

As a persnickety lover of well-written Interracial Romance fiction, all I can say is that I loved reading this book. I say that, because not only was it captivating, but the characters had depth and they were touchable, so much so that , I found myself being able to connect with these characters, and the world in which they live. Also, the sex was spankalicious, and simply pantymelting. Some may have an issue with the D/s factor, but all I can say is that it fits...(We'll just leave that where it is).
Now, my only issues with this book were the miniscule amount of lag, and not to mention, a few crimps in the storyline.
Other than that, I absolutely loved this book, and I am so glad that I can say that it was worth every penny and more.
UGH ! I wish I could give better review cause I quite like this author : the writing is always good and the character interesting (at least, most of the time...I'll come back to it later).
There may be some spoilers, so if you don't want to be too spoiled...
I read some of the previous books in the series so I was interested to learn more about who was the mystery girl on Colin's room who Beau mistook for Josie and what Colin's story would be. And it all started well. I was a bit surprised by the unilateral POV chosen by the author as I would have loved to hear Colin's thoughts too but I quickly got interested in Kyra's story and got along with hearing only her side of the story.
And then *SPOILER ALERT*, it happened : their 1st sex scene which ended up looking more like a rape scene than just a very badly researched and written BDSM/rough sex scene.
At first, I just thought it was a badly written BDSM like scene. And I thought I wished writers who want to write about BDSM or even just elements of BDSM would actually research the subject and not just put some stuff here and there to make their stories look "edgier" or something. Cause BDSM is certainly not just telling somebody to chose a "safe word" and then proceed to force someone into doing what they want and what they decide the other person "truly" want. BDSM is 1st and foremost about consent : people should be informed and explained to exactly what the sexual encouter or relationship they are about to enter is about, and they have to consent to it, not be mentally or physically pressured to do it. Otherwise it's just straight up abuse! And there is nothing sexy or edgy or romantic about abuse! And BSDM isn't also about ordering/commanding your sexual partner to do what you want out of bed : it is being a controlling abusing asshole! Oh, and BDSM isn't systematically about the female powerless character "submitting" to the much more powerful male character and his possessive objectification of her, in and out of bed. Plus, the way this sexual practice was referred as some kind of perversion, linked to some unresolved mommy/daddy issues, was just yet another very bad 50 shades of Grey butchering of what BDSM is.
Then, after further thinking, I realized this wasn't even a bad BDSM like sex scene but it is indeed a rape scene : Colin litterally forced himself on her. He physically prevented her to leave, blocked her movements, while she was fighting against him, she clearly stated she hadn't decided whether she wanted to do it or no, she told him to stop, etc. And just because her body reacted to his sexual stimulation, doesn't mean she ultimately consented to having rough sex with him. Physical reactions to sexual stimulus aren't consent. Your body canNOT consent. Only you can consent, and true consent can't happen under constraint.
So yeah, this scene just killed all the book/story's buzz for me. After that, I skipped all the so-called BDSM sex scene. It left a very bad taste and I couldn't just enjoy the very interesting part of the book. I liked reading about Kyra's loud and funny family members, and I even liked reading about Rosie and Beau, but the whole dynamics between Colin and Kyra was just tainted.
At the end of the book, I also realized that the resolution of this story paralled the one about that Roxy Roxx character (which was often referred to in the book) and her sister way too much : the hero being in love with another woman who is described as the "do gooder" while the heroine is seen or sees herself as the bad girl, the family connection, etc. Thankfully Kyra's relationship with Colin was a much more real relationship than that Roxy girl and her lover who never got to really know her and love her for herself and not just because she looked exactly like the woman he was actually in love with (this over-the-top and contrived soap-opera plot still makes me shake my head and pity Roxy for ending up with a man who loved the woman she looked like...). But other than that, I felt like this was a somehow better written Roxy 2.0 re-write. And it's a pity 'cause the story had the potential to be way better than that.
Another good one by one of my favorite authors! This is the love journey of Keira and Collin. This story is about how lies that are told no matter what the reason always turns sour. and as many famous men and women have said the truth shall set you free! five stars
This is one the best of Taylor's books I've read in awhile. The characters were appealing (even when the hero was being an asshat he was still appealing). Also I enjoyed the dialogue.
I really don't know how I feel about this one really didn't care much for the hero or heroine....I tried to like them both but I really couldn't.....I guess Kyra couldn't help being the way that she was with the childhood she had and I guess the same could be said for Colin but I still had a hard time connecting with these two. The relationship between them left me scratching my head but It was good catching up with Josie and Beau and seeing how things shaped up for them. Saying that, this one was not one of my favorites but I enjoyed this one better than " THE WILD ONE"......and I will definitely continue to read Ms. Taylor's work.
I thought that all of the secrets the heroine was keeping were unnecessary. A simple talk with the hero would have made a lot more sense.
I also really didn't like how the hero is in love with someone else for the first few chapters in the book and even asks the heroine to help make the other girl jealous. And the heroine keeps talking about how she's always loved Beau, another guy.
I kept reading because I liked the country superstar hero and was curious about his kinky side.
This one is by far the BEST book out of this 3 book series. I actually read this series starting with book 3 and working my way down...
Colin and Kyra's story was intense, crazy, heartbreaking, sexy, dark, scary, uplifting, & just AMAZING!
I would recommend this read if you like your Heroes unapologetic with their love, in action and words. Colin was just... Wow... But I dug him and felt him just the same. It has to be scary being the focal point of all his attention, desires, and hopes. I felt on edge for Kyra for majority of this book. LOL.
This one had a surprising reveal as well, and I like how that came to a close too.
I can't really go into many things for this book, like I did with the other two, because the journey here is one big spoiler after another. Please just read this one.
My ratings for all books of this series were as followed: Book 1 : 5 ***** Book 2 : 4**** Book 3 : 2**
The couple had a lot of explicit, unsexy sex and little chemistry. Colin was a jackass and Kyra was immature with secrets that were silly or her secret to keep The big confrontation sent this from three stars to two because I couldn't decide which of them I disliked more. The grandmother was one of the few bright spots. Books like this and The Wild One are why Theodora Taylor remains on my borrow before you buy list.
It was a close thing but after reading it putting it down then thinking back I've decided I cannot recommend this book, it was black country singers and bondage and all over the place and in a word weird. I could have bought all of that if I felt some connection to it at all. He wasn't likeable which is weird because his appearance in the other books suggested otherwise, didn't like her either and I wish I had better words to express why. I didn't believe them as a couple and their chemistry wasn't there for me. It is well written and unlike other books I didn't want a refund but I do wish I spent a few hours with a more deserving couple.
I loved this book, I am so addicted to this series,I felt like I have been waiting forever for another book by Ms. Taylor. The characters where well developed and the plot was good. Colin and Kyra where great together from the start and I love how you got to see Beau and Josie and how they are growing as a couple and the scenes with all of them together were golden. Great Read can't wait for more
I liked this book but some parts turned me off. While I loved the kinky sexy parts, I thought other parts were overlooked.
One: I didn’t like how quickly Kyra got over Colin keeping her a secret. Her insecurities come from being kept a secret. Her mother being a mistress, to a father not acknowledging her, to Mike keeping her as the secret side chick.
Two: The big breaking point scene with Kyra, Colin, Josie and Beau. Um, so we’re going to act like Beau didn’t refer to Kyra as “the help”?!....On top of that, Josie didn’t shut that down?! No!!
Three: Did we also forget that Josie was a major contributor to the big fight?! How did it flip to Kyra being called the liar when Josie was the one who conspired the plan? What am I missing?!
While there are aspects of BDSM, I also think Colin got aroused from fighting (verbal and physical). He needs to control the situation so he’ll tie Kyra up for punishment and pleasure. I thought biastophilla is too much so maybe it’s misattribution of arousal. 🤷🏾♀️
I don’t know, I’m no psychologist. I did like it tho! Sexy!!
Colin is my kind of alpha in that he knows when he's whipped and has a way of asserting himself without seeming like a complete ass. This story has some of the best dialog I've seen in an IR novel in a looooong time. It comes across as natural and made me feel like I could hang out with either of these people.
Didn't agree with ever detail, but honestly considering how well the story came together I can't quibble about the little things. Definitely recommend- this is a great read with enough BDSM to raise the kink level without overdoing it for some of us who aren't into books that focus on that particular element lol.
Just re- read this story because I forgot to write up my review. It was just as good second time around. This is Colin and Kira's story. Trust is the issue for Colin and Kira. Kira has a lot of secrets that she does not share with Colin until they blow up in her face and causes him to not trust her any more.
I really enjoyed their story and I loved how Kira went after Colin at the end. Definitely worth a read.
4.5* I love TTs books and she manages to get unique stories every time. The only problem I had with this book was Colin’s version Dom/sub. It was hard for me to not compare it to the things an abuser would say/do - which kyra points out at one point. I had to be more open minded that some people enjoy this kind of play and not let it turn me off. I’m glad I stuck with it cause it’s a very good book.
This is .... my first thought i got when i read through earlier chapters.. damn what a weird plot! One thing that really irk me that i think H is a bit of a jackass god! How can't he apologize a bit for getting h to pretend be his gf for his suppose other girl (while he knows who then h is , wanting her...) it is just like h said he want to settle, be a saint for josie but being dirty to h. In fact, he needs to learn to apologize more.
I don't like how the H doesn't fight for h like seriously he is that good for her... because at the last it happened like that. It's like the h was being so desperate, I mean ofc the h made mistake, but it just proves that the H didn't love her that much to chase her.... and fix it. All of the angers are because he mad at the h for working under what Josie planned for her to do as the H Threaten her job for music industry because she failed to help him to get other girl which actually didn't like him that much!!! Seriously it is a soap drama worthy. Tsk tsk
I also agree with some of other reviews that why Beau and Josie are not getting blame for their mistakes that Beau being so rude af, Josie with her plan and not once apologize after that. All of sudden it is sunshine and sunrise. Snobby rich problem.
Like i said, what a weird... it makes me want to belt out Avril's "Complicated" song 😂 and this story gave me a heartburn
Still i like the horizontal part.
This could be so much better story.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I am so disappointed that this book ended. I love these characters the story, but most of all I love the writing and how you just get sucked in to the plot. I laughed, I cried, and I talked back to this book, that’s how you know it’s a good read, at least for me anyway!
The good: Kyra- My favorite Theodara Taylor heroine so far. She is strong without being too hard and sweet without being a pushover. Collin- A very good match for Kyra. I felt that he had the right amount of alpha in him, mixed with sexy and genuine Best grandma- Not the wig girl! Plot- the plot was A+ for me, of all the storylines in this series this felt the most genuine and real. It had just the right amount of drama tempered with emotion and just a dab of comedy.
The bad: There were some errors in the book, but not enough to detract from the overall story
Overall: I had to rearrange my T2 favorites list after reading this book.
Best heroine: Kyra from “His for keeps” Best alpha male: Nathan “The owner of his heart” Best book: “His for keeps” Best romance: me and Theodara Taylor’s writing Favorite couple: Tu and Grady from “Wolf and Soul” Best scene: Rafe fights Vikings in full Native American war paint from “Wolf and prejudice”
**If you haven’t read 1 of these get off this review and get the book
This is one of my favorite authors but this one was miss for me. It was kind of all over the place and I didn't find it as well written as Taylor's other work. The story just didn't gel for me. And Colin was pretty unlikable. He came across as a spoiled, selfish, dick.
I’m a complex girl. I love a dominant hero—even an alphahole. I love hard sex in romance novels and reading about a take charge man in the sack. This book definitely had that. But something was off. I just didn’t believe this guy. He seemed to try too hard and it was just over the top. True doms have a cool confidence that Colin lacked. Maybe it’s because he was uncomfortable with his kinks and fetishes. I’m not sure. But something was so wrong with the dynamic here. Maybe it was the initial imbalance of power? I’m sure all of it played a part in this novel feeling so contrived. I also believe the author probably needed to research the BDSM lifestyle more, as this depiction was not a responsible one. It lacked credibility. There is more discussion and communication before just diving into it. The lack of that made Colin and Josie’s dynamic more difficult to enjoy. Colin’s lack of EQ and Josie’s lack of power did not make for an engaging romance. Josie felt like a victim for 95% of the novel. Her character was just depressing to read. I wanted to love this one. But I just couldn’t. The storytelling was decent in this one. But the clunky character development left me disengaged. I couldn’t even enjoy the hot sex scenes. Overall, I’d give this a 2.5.
Overall, I don’t think the Fairgoods series is for me as I don’t enjoy reading about pitiful black women. I love dominant heroes and submissive heroines—but only because she agrees and is happy to do it. Read Theodora’s novel, “Zahir” for a much better dom/sub depiction. I rated it five stars.
The FMC is insufferable and childish for her big ass age. Only saving grace was the mysterious air around the MMC.
Only good book I’ve read fr fr from this author is Waylon. That might be her only good series…
I’m double annoyed because I bought all three books hoping this series would be BUSS DOWN good… newsflash… it wasn’t. I can officially stamp this author as NEVER read again.
This was not only a fantastic story but it was a fantastic journey of some really good fun. The writer not only chapters the essence of this couple but we get some really good truth about love having a time for it to happen. This was not only good writing but it was just a really good experience.
Theodora Tayor is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her books feature rough alpha males and strong black women. This book was a bit slow to start, but it was intense, heartbreaking, dark and sexy. The plot and characters were really well written and the narrator did a fantastic job voicing the different characters.
Surprisingly good despite being terribly gritty with A LOT of abuse of women. Not for the faint-hearted!
So far, her books appear to let onto deeper psychological levels to explore regarding power and control in human relationships. Race issues almost appear to be secondary, unless they metaphorically refer to white domination over black people.
The heroine is a very likeable and resilient character, despite being uneducated.
I didn't take to the hero, Mason. I actually even wondered if he was retarded, there seemed to be so very little higher thinking going on in his mind. He really sounded brutish, as though the only parts of his brain that pinged were the reptilian and lymphatic ones. In addition to quite a few loose screws, there also seemed to be very very few neurones firing up.
WHAT DID ENDEAR ME TO THE HERO was his opinion of himself as rather monstrous and I suppose the desire to be something else. He refuses to abuse her, asking her to come to him when she is ready. This particular arc is interesting: It starts off with him buying her, treating her as an object, and wanting to possess her / submitting / forcing her to be his, to finally allowing her to be her own person and giving back her freedom and by doing so allowing himself to actually to be free from being a monster. And this movement allows love to flourish between them. I don't know if the author went so far in building the psychology of the characters. This, said it would have been interesting to let the heroine choose to leave the hero for a while, stand on her own to feet and experiment her power, before deciding to return to the hero.
A few things I thought didn't make real sense:
1. Why does the villain (her first boyfriend) all of a sudden decide to drop back into her life? That was not explained and given that he had "sold her" and gotten his goods, there was no real good reason for him to go after her, except wanting to get a good arse whipping from the hero... and creating the required adversity for the hero to prove himself and the heroine to stand-up for herself, in a rather flamboyant way.
2. The final scene, in my opinion, was a bit over the top... okay this is a gang-infested neighbourhood, but .
3. To entirely understand the plot and what the hero gets up to, I suspect you need to read "His forbidden bride" first, which I didn't. This book refers to what Mason did in that book and I'm hoping that his actions were really badass, because in this book, he might be referred to as a crazy, violent, scary, white supremacist, with no conversation and even less education, but his treatment of the black girl and boy is really sweet. He's more of a knight in shining armour than a kid who grew-up in and endorsed the values of a racist hate group.
4. Why Mason changes and decides to quit being a racist fascist is pretty light in my opinion... basically, a boner for a black girl. Okay. The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice. Okay. A trigger related to her boyfriend's abuse of her that sends him back to his own past. Okay. But still, no matter how good black booty is (and do I know, being a black woman myself), it would be nice that these men are coaxed into change by some form of epiphany regarding the sheer stupidity of racism that manages to seep into their minds.
5. There is almost no debate about racism between the hero and heroine. She falls for her saviour, but doesn't possess the intelligence to confront him on the issue, which I found lacking.
6. What made the hero need to have his "secret" farm ?
7. Where and how did the heroine learn to tattoo ? Her former circumstances don't appear to allow her much room to pursue her own interests. Where did she train ? Get the ink ? etc.
8. The only comical aspect of the book was the villain's speech. Really over the top gangsta. A bit more humour, especially dark humour, would be welcome!
This book feels like a draft ... without doubt could've been easily improved and be a good book! There was always something missing; something coming from the power of the unknown; a lot of half half going!
Theodora Taylor has done it again in “His for Keeps.” His for Keeps explores Colin’s story, what happens before and after he tries to steal Josie from Beau (His One and Only) by using Kyra. The characters were well developed and realistic. I love the way her stories connect either by a relationship and/or something that connect them such as video games built by Tiara (Her Viking Wolves).
Colin and Kyra meeting again after many year, only Kyra knew his name and he knew who she was but did not know her name. Colin has become a big country artist and Kyra is suggling to fulfill her dream of becoming a country music song writer.
This book had me a little curious why Kyra felt the way she felt toward Beau and also why she never said anything to him regarding their actual relationship. I am glad the secret was finally revealed, but the drama. WOW…the grandmother had me hollering when Kyra told her what happen and why she was back at her house. All in all, it was a good read that I read it for a second time. Man, did not think Colin had it in him. Colin is a pure alpha male.
This book is for anyone who doesn’t mind light BDSM (no whips and chains, just a little rope play) and who likes to read interracial (bwwm) stories. If you don’t then this book is not for you.
I loved this book. Hands down one of my favorite books and Colin is one of my all-time favorite hero's. I love the fact that he and Kyra's first encounter triggered something with the other. I liked the fact that the author touches on both Colin and Kyra having to come to terms with their darker desires.
"I think about his earlier words about us being consenting adults and not letting other folks get a weigh in on what we do, and realized he must of said them to himself a whole lot before he ever said them to me."
I liked Kyra and how she dealt with her issues was realistic to me. She was scared of being rejected but couldn't pass up the opportunity to be near the person she wanted to be close to all her life. She let Josie give her extra pay because she never thought Colin would give her the time of day and then didn't know how to tell him the truth without losing him. I also understand how Colin wanted to be in control and wanted Kyra to give herself to him, because of his abandonment and trust issues. They were the perfect people to fall into each other.
Like I said before it was Theodor Taylor that made me a Kindle fan, I am a true dye heart the book was emotional, so much love between these two characters, I knew all along when they referred to her skin color she was mixed, and her reference to Beau with so much love, and then when she helped him I knew it was her brother, but I didn't know she knew! So that was really good, seeing as I thought she would tell the wife I am in love with your fiancé but all along she knew, but Colin I loved the way he loved her, I loved it highly recommend it, and I just like to say, to all the writers you ladies and gentlemen, have adventurous minds made to be a writer, loved it.
