Melkor & Purity #2

Melkor & Purity: Book Two

Rate this book

Melkor, son of the finest Hellhound leader, wanted retribution for his father’s death.

What he got was a mortal woman at his side.

He got me.

I was blessed by the Lord of Hell and given powers by the Nephilim leader, Arrow.

Powers I’ll have to learn to control.

And as the Soulless escape Hell and descend upon the mortal realm, I’ll learn to become a hunter and tackle whatever the immortal world can throw my way.

Because I’m not just Melkor’s friend anymore.

One perfect kiss wasn’t enough.

I want more.

And I’ll fight like hell to get it.

I have been an avid reader for longer than I can remember, desiring the darker, edgier works of Bram Stoker, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. I first started writing in High School giving that away when my first attempt was nothing more than dribble. I wish now that I kept at it, pursued it with a hunger that I currently possess.

Writing is my passion, it is what fuels the fires inside of me and it is an all-or-nothing furnace that keeps me up at all hours.

I am married to a wonderful supportive husband, I have 2 wonderful kids and the best friends that I have waited some 35 odd years to meet.

A thrilling story! What fast paced adventure! Going after the Soulless was dangerous enough for Purity and Melkor and when more enemies were threatening their mission, things were not clear. Only one thing they were sure off, they were one for each other. Melkor was ready to sacrifice himself to protect Purity but, was he strong enough? I visualize Melkor as a teenager still growing and developing his muscles, but not yet ready to face great threats. Instead, after so many situations she had to face, Purity’s strength and fierceness was showing. But, Hunters, that they were. The die was cast! Intense battles, suspense, strong emotions, darkness, difficult choices, doubts, scary situations, fears, violence and almost, almost a passionate scene. An interesting, entertaining and full of action book that I enjoyed.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I have to say that it was really quite fun to follow along as these two try to figure everything out. Friends for years their feelings have turned romantic which is just one thing for them to deal with though it does make things quite interesting to say the least. Along with Purity has to figure out her new powers and Melkor still has a lot to learn as well making training a must. That does not stop the bad things from happening though whether they like it or not. Great world building with some outside the norm characters for those looking for a change. Lots of magic, demons, shifters, and so much more. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

Picking up where the first book left off, we get a taste of the training the hunter, Alma, is giving to Purity. Both are working long and hard, but Purity is struggling somewhat with using the portals until suddenly it just clicks for her. She and Melkor are teamed up and introduced to Redemption, an Unseelie warrior, and their first order of business is to help find the mother of one of Purity’s fellow students from her high school.

Jesse is one of the high school bullies from book one, and he begs Purity and Melkor for help in rescuing his mother, who had been taken by one of the Soulless, an action that none of the hunters had ever heard of them doing before; they grab and kill only. In tracing the mother’s movements on the day of her disappearance, Purity and Melkor discover she is peripherally involved in the theft of the keys of Hell.

This story just keeps getting better and better. Purity, on her own, is beginning to show some depths to her character that just weren’t visible when with her family. She and Melkor are both growing into a more mature relationship with each other as well, and this developing storyline provides much of the entertainment, the smiles and laughs I had while reading. I enjoyed how each experienced some nervous anxiety over their close proximity to each other, the worry over there only being one bed in the apartment, Melkor’s fumbling with how to approach Purity during their brief hiatus before going out to find Jesse’s mother and the keys. And yet, they still had some less than adult moments as in the car race with Jesse back to the apartment. The voice of the unknown Unseelie in Purity’s mind and the appearance of Unblessed were unsettling and an excellent addition to the story.

I listened to the Audible audio edition of this book read by Heather Murdoch for HotGhost Productions so much that I will be looking for more books she has narrated. She has a great voice and a range and talent to distinguish a wide range of characters, both male and female.

I highly recommend this series as a whole. Book 2 does not stand alone. I think young adult readers and readers that like paranormal romance with younger protagonists would enjoy these the most.

I look forward to the upcoming publication of Book 3.

I asked to review this audiobook because I am such an an avid reader but also almost exclusively audio due to my schedule. Because of this, and the fact that a bad narrator can destroy a great series, I can be very critical of narrators. HotGhost Productions does a good job in narrating all voices this book. It was a very enjoyable listen and I didn't have any issues distinguishing between characters. I do wish that I could see the specific narrators on the book since I often look for other audio books based on narrators that I enjoy.

As to the story, I don't give away a spoilers because I feel you should read the story for that. However, I will say that it is book 2 in a demon/vampire/hunter series that I am truly enjoying. I am looking forward to book 3. You won't be disappointed if you give it a try!

I received a free review copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.

So...this second book is full of action packed moments. However, I found I had more questions for this second book than I did for the first one. Purity shows her dedication and determination to help in the fight to bring the world back to rights, since it's all going to hell at the rate it's going. Melkor shows that he will do anything for her, but mostly to help avenge his father's death. Have the two taken on more than they can handle?

The story is good but like I said, I found I had more questions for this book. It's making me question/doubt what I had read/listened to in the first book. I like all the additional things but still, I question why it happened as it had. Hopefully the next book, when it is available will answer some of these questions.

I am voluntarily reviewing this book. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Rooting for Satan!

I don't want to say much about this book. But believe me when I say you will be rooting for Satan. And that is not a bad thing. He has a job to do and you better hope he is able to do it. This is an action packed series with a plus size heroine. Something we can all believe in.

Format: audiobook
Narrator: Heather Murdoch
The narrator again does a fantastic job with bringing this world along with the pain, desperation, fear and determination to life.
As with book one in this series I got totally lost within the story, Melkor and Purity’s connection is one that no one or no thing can break.
A fantastic urban fantasy book that I didn’t want to end.

Non-stop action

Mellor and Purity train to fight against the soulless that have escaped hell. And to find the murderer who killed Melkor's father. As feelings between Melkor and Purity deepen, danger increases. Page turner you won't be able to put down.

I liked this less than the first. I don’t know why but Purity started to annoy me. I was also hoping for more in this book, and even though the book is filled with a lot of action it felt empty.

Not as good as book one, seemed to plod a bit and didn't get anywhere. Feels like an unnecessary book tbh. Let's see what the final book has in store.

Still love the story and characters.

First off read the prequel first. I gives a great introduction to this book. Purity really shines in this book. She embraces who she is and Wow. Purity journeys in to hell with Melkor. Edge of your seat action. A heart breaking loss for Mel. Purity is gifted with supernatural power by Arrow. Read it for the rest. Great surprises and the ending leaves me in need of more. I will be eagerly waiting. I received an ARC from the author and I am leaving this Totally Honest review because I choose to & I Love this Book! Happy Reading!

So all I’m going to say about this book is that I absolutely loved it and I’m going to leave it at that because if say anymore I’ll be giving away all the surprises that’s hidden within this story and I think you are the one who should discover those surprises not me giving them all to you!
So it’s going to be a big HECK YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book, but if you haven’t read the first book then I highly suggest that you do that way you don’t get confused as to what’s happening and who’s who!

I just can't with these two! Purity is a TOTAL. BAD. ASS. *Seeing* her change and grow is amazing.
All women should embrace themselves and life as Purity does. She is, literally, rolling with the punches. She's not letting anyone or thing stand in her way. And Melkor. Could a Hellhound be any more loving? And lethal? Their love of and commitment to one another, above all else, is the stuff of legend. So looking forward to the next one.

I loved how fast paced this was, Purity is doing her damnedest to be and do what she needs to in order to get the Soulless and as hard as it is as long as she has Melkor with her she will keep pushing. There is plenty of action, twists and surprises including the Unblessed that keep you turning the page and when you get to the end you just want more as you aren't ready to stop reading!! lol

Oh yeah, this just keeps getting better. Alma brings out the big guns when she turns Purity & Melkor's training over to Redemption but even he cant prepare them for what's coming. Worlds are colliding & Purity is no longer fully human, she now caries part of Hell & part of the Shadowed Realm inside her.

I really loved this book. The action and adventure are written so well. Love seeing old friends like Redemption and learning more about the unseelie. Melkor and Purity are both such great characters And it's cool to see their story evolving. Definitely can't wait to see the steam level go up (and I know it will) but there's plenty of tension and sweet moments.

A dog's purpose

It's amazing how complex Melkor is. Kim did a very good job making him have the devotion and instincts of a dog with the love of a young man, and inteligence of a soldier without making the hellhound a separate conciousness. It is quite refreshing. Purity is very relatable and motivated and I can't wait to watch her grow stronger.

The chemistry between Purity and Melkor is at times quite sweet and others quite intense. Purity’s determination to become a Hunter was nearing obsessive. I really like how she is able to still be empathetic despite everything that’s going on. Wish the next book was ready!
