Right now, I should be drowning in student loan debt. I should be struggling to find a job and I definitely should be having guy trouble. Maybe date a sexy "artist" named Trevor who's covered in tattoos, rides a motorcycle and is always asking me for money? We all need one of those guys at least once in our life, right?
I should basically be enjoying my youth one bad decision at a time.
But I'm not doing that.
I'm not doing that because tortured artists named Trevor don't live out in space. You see, I was abducted by aliens as a kid and I've been out here ever since. On a good day, life is exciting and interesting and full of wonder. On a bad day, it's terrifying and strange and it usually involves me being in a cage.
But all that changes when I meet Lok.
Lok is sexy.
Lok is broody.
Lok is dangerous.
And Lok is 100% bad for my health...and yet, here we are being chased across the galaxy by the alien FBI and hiding in the seedy underbelly of the universe - Dark Space.
Life rarely turns out the way you planned, but running around with a sexy and mysterious intergalactic criminal was definitely not on my to-do list. Now, I just need to stay alive and figure out what's more dangerous - the terrors of Dark Space or a wanted criminal who has the craziest set of bedroom eyes that I've ever seen.
Drowning in student loan debt doesn't sound nearly as terrifying anymore...
"I know it’s a dog eat dog universe, but I guess in this universe, I’m more of a golden retriever…or maybe a terrier. Or one of those long haired dachshunds."
Cute! I really enjoyed this one! I liked the main h, Sam- she was snarky, confident, and smart- considering she's survived in space for 8 years on her own I wouldn't expect anything less.
This also wasn't the start of her story where she was new to space- but we get to see how much she's had to rely on her wits to survive, and how much she's learned over the years. From flying space crafts, to being a mechanic, to even hawking herself as a slave all in the name of survival she's a pretty savvy h. Yup, Sam is a survivor but she's not bitter-- and I found her sense of humor pretty fun.
I also liked the H- Lok. He wasn't overly aggressive- but he's def got the strong silent type thing going on. At times he seemed closed off- but even with his first meeting with Sam he showed he actually had a playful side. I enjoyed the schmexy time- and I liked that the romance wasn't rushed.
All in all we got a nice slow burn sci-fi romance with interesting baddies and backstory for the world. Check it out on kindle unlimited if this sounds like your jam!
I love Mara Frost’ books and I couldn’t wait to read this new stand-alone Sci-Fi alien romance. I love the world she builds in this book. The characters are truly well written and the slow building romance between the main characters is great. In one hand we have the big, sexy scary and silent alien type and in the other hand we have the clumsy, determined chatterbox heroine who manage to always find herself in some cage or another. This read is action packed, has a sexy brooding hero, a stubborn and wonderfully snarky heroine, funny moments, steamy scenes, lots of interesting aliens, monsters, adventures. This book is a page turner and has surprisingly a lot of new and original ideas that took me by surprise. I hope the author writes more in this world and about the other fascinating aliens.
Very enjoyable story! Sam has been kidnapped from Earth about 8 years ago and has been 'touring' space. Unfortunately she is locked in a cage at the start of the story, but she is saved by a hunky alien (twice) and decides to follow him to a dark part of space.
We don't get much info on Samantha's life before her kidnapping and what happened during those 8 years. We only get to know a very resourceful woman, who has not lost her sense of what is right and wrong in a sometimes harsh world. Lok, the alien who rescued Sam and lets her tag along, is an oddity with unknown strenght and power.
I really like the stories of this author. She inserts a lot of humor in her books and she has a big imagination. I would have loved to hear more of Samantha's past, but also about Lok's. The story is not long enough for that. There are some pretty explicit scenes and not that I object to that, but I did wonder about the timing sometimes :-)
Another great book. Look forward to another, hopefully also in this universe (there was a little snippet about the MC's of the last book).
I stayed up till 3:30 to read this book in one sitting. Started at 11 PM, which was probably a terrible decision...
I'm not sure what to say about this book though. It was PAINFUL at times. The heroine, who we are told is certain things, isn't actually those things in action. For example, she's a pilot - but we only see her pilot once. What a wasted potential. She's supposedly good at survival - she survived 8 years in space after all. Buuuut..... it was embarrassing how often she needs to be rescued and finds herself caught. She just ... ambles off into the desert in the darkness without knowing anything.... sorry what survival skills?? Must have been pure luck. Her ramblings and awkwardness just... are over the top. Sometimes it's funny... most of the time it's embarrassing AF.
The plot seemed to be two plots kind of mashed together. There's the guy who appears to be the main baddie at first, Then there's the main baddie who comes in later, which seems to have probably been the actual baddie? There are not NEARLY enough explanations for what occurred there, and not NEARLY enough explanations of what Lok is, while there are other species and side characters or even MINOR characters who are better described... nope. So I can't label it 4 stars, but it has amazing potential.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Sam was kidnapped at 17. She's not sure exactly how long she's been out here, but figures it's been at least 5yrs. It's kind of hard to judge when you're planet hopping and they each have different length days and years. Don't even get her started on fixed planets. But, she's doing well, trying to sell herself- not like that, but, hey, no shaming. It's just that the guy who traded boots for her is looking to get his money back, so hawking her mechanic skills and anything else she can think of means out if this cage and a possibility of escape from whoever purchases her. This isn't her first time in this situation. But along comes this golden space god who keeps letting her out, or disabling guards when she's caught. One thing she's learned is help isn't free. So what exactly does he want from her adolescent alien disguised self?
Spoilers ahead. This was the best one of the series so far. Lok, for being a former convict in a penal colony, had a better moral compass than the 2 who were peacekeepers. We never learn why he was there, but the story of how they escaped was told. I really hope that the others get their own books. We don't really learn how either Sam or Lok survived, other than theft. Sam is always disguised. Lok never is. This is a slow burn. While the story moves fast, the focus is more on bonding as friends and colleagues before anything else happens. And I greatly appreciate that. The events that happened at the end- the info released and her (no huge spoilers)- I'm interested to see what impacts they made. Because the one would have shaken the foundation of galaxies, the other the ideas of a race who didn't realize they weren't alone. Sam, while her own character, would have beaten Dani in a sass- off, and definitely kept her head better than Jordan. Then again, she was introduced to space as a flexible minded teen. But, of the 3 stories so far, this one really pulled ahead. Still fluffy- but more heart, more substance. The writing has evolved, too. There's a few editing errors here and there. Some are a little jarring, but most are easily overlooked.
The newest book from Mara Frost is an epic space opera that takes place in the same universe as Alien Space Outlaws and Alien Space Pirates, but isn't the same series... this is a new story with new characters, and man what a story it is.
The main characters--Sam and Lok--are great together. Sam is relatable in her awkwardness and is totally at home in her own skin. Lok is just... wow. He's definitely something special, and when you find out what exactly he is... wow. The secondary characters are so much fun! I could definitely read stories about Tak and the boys in Lok's group of friends...
This story is intense--it takes you to different worlds, introduces you to new characters and takes you on so many twists and turns... when I got to the end, I actually had to sit there for a minute and take it all in.
I could go on and on... but it's better if you dive headfirst into this book and lose yourself for a few hours!!
This has given me a definite book hangover. It is such an epic space opera kind of story. So many interesting characters and places. It's true that it wasn't as hilarious as the first two books, but there are still some truly funny parts! But, this was more serious, suspenseful, with twists and turns and mysteries. Still, Lok was sexy and determined and Sam was plucky and resourceful. I'd love to read more about these characters, especially Lok's friends. Only complaint is it could have used a good proofreader as there are some typos/mistakes, but not enough to take me out of the story.
My first time Picking up a book by this author. The story was so much fun. I was laughing. I was interested in the characters. You really get to know Sam, Tak and Lok. The world this story takes place and is rich and layered. I really like the descriptions and all the fun situations. The romance was not too much but enough that you felt satisfied. I am going to read everything I can from this author. The only improvement would be there’s typos. But the story is so good a few words wrong is no big deal. I couldn’t put the book down. Loved it.
I really enjoyed this. I was so excited for his book and I was not disappointed. I wasn't a fan from when she was taken near the end, but I really enjoyed the rest of the book. I just felt like that part was unnecessary to the entire story.
The rest was great and I really hope the buddies all get their own books. Overall I give a 4.5 because that end part where she was taken was honestly a waste of the story to me.
I just fell in love with this couple. They are so sweet and oddly normal. After.reading many hyper Alpha men alien books this was sweet. I like them so much, I would love to read a story of their adventures, they worked so well off each other. The Heroin was hilarious, the way she.is written is awesome. Funny as poo.
I loved the main character Samantha. She made me laugh so many times. This space adventure takes you all around the universe and there’s lots of adventure. But the romance between Lok and Sam is hot and endearing. Super hot.
I would love to see a sequel about one of Loks friends.
You know when you read a book and keep glancing down at what percent you've read hope you have a whole lot more to read? That's the way it was with this story. The female character was a hoot, loved her! The male character was awesomely deep. So many turns at the end, very gripping. This is one book that can be read and re-read without tiring.
Loved this book. Funny exciting riveting. Totally my cup of tea. I'm not trying to mess with excellence here but please write faster 😂. I need more. Thank you so much.
This book was funny, and sexy, and exciting, but it was also touching, and moving, and ultimately heart-wrenching. I laughed hard, and then cried, and always cheered for Sam and Lok. This book was perfect.
This has got to be one of the longest romance books I’ve ever read but it was SO worth it. Lok is smokin hot and Samantha is a ditzy, wonderful girl! I love them and their personalities so much.
What a brilliant read I loved Sam I couldn't stop laughing throughout most this book she's so funny but I also got a bit tense with what that Bob was doing to her and Lok
DNF. The MFC was a babbling idiot and the MMC was yet another of those Sexy Aliens who look remarkably human but for the different coloured skin/eyes/hair/ear shape. Yawn.
Great full length, slow burn, sci fi romance! Amazing world-building, and full of quirky characters. I especially liked the heroine, and the author does an amazing job with action scenes! Definitely recommend!
