Theoretical Weirdo: A Mish Mash of Ramblings about Weirdness

Rate this book
In this book you find a brief samplings of stories, ideas, ramblings, and thoughts from anomalistic researcher John E.L. Tenney. These small glimpses into the mess of his mind should in many cases seem benign or trite. From paranormal investigation techniques to demons, from Bigfoot to our spaceship Moon, Tenney has tried to compile a seemingly uncompilable, mishmash of blips on his intellectual radar. Hopefully readers will find something of value or a least a cinder which sets aflame a better idea.

This book. Funny, interesting and surprisingly heart felt. Proud to admit that I don’t know. Proud to be a weirdo. Let’s keep thinking, and dreaming, and talking and let us never stop. Thank you Tenney.

When this book arrived, I was astonished by how thin it was. I expected several hundred pages of history as Tenney has been around for decades, building a huge catalog of stories and investigations. But it is what it is, this book is indeed a mish mash of ramblings, only scratching the surface of what I’m sure is a more in-depth repository in Tenney’s archives.

Topics covered are ghosts, UFOs, bigfoot, magic(k), recommendations on paranormal research, points on conspiracy theories and more.

I’ve had the pleasure of attending a few of Tenney’s lectures and reading some from his website. And I’m certain this book could have been ten times the size filled with all kinds of personal stories and observations. Tenney pulls back in some chapters saying things like he’s not here to debate this or that or leaving something for another time. I personally felt that this was the time and would have liked to see more well rounded, fuller discussions. Tenney could probably write the next BOOK OF THE DAMNED but this isn't it.

I was happy to see where he wrote that he’s skeptical of all the phenomena (in relations to ghosts, bigfoot, UFOs, etc) and even of the skeptics. Most members of the paranormal community who spend a lot of time (is this Tenney’s full time job?) on these subjects feel compelled to provide an answer. The honesty that he still doesn't know makes him a treasure and shows an openness to accept a solution based on facts instead of desired outcomes.

The present volume is more of a summary of things that could come. A surface scratch of Tenney's repository is what this book entails with maybe a longer treatise to be delivered at another time. Tenney writes, “A strong America depends on its Weirdos and our outlandish stories.” I agree.

Have had the pleasure of hearing John Tenney in person at MI Paracon a few times. Always find his presentations very interesting, so led me to read this book. He comments on a variety of ideas he has but unfortunately, doesn't go into much depth. Had hoped for a bit more but understandably since they're "ramblings" perhaps his intention was to just address the subjects and get us all thinking, which this book most certainly does. An engaging read.

John is a very deep thinker who loves to challenge your view of the world as well as his own. He makes the weird and esoteric approachable though with wit and charm. Definitely one of the weirdos and I’m proud to be one too.

Great book of thoughts and observations on various types of strangeness. It needed some editing, though. Lots of typos, etc.
