Book 1: A Ghost of a Chance Nobody knows that Laurel Bay can see and talk to ghosts. When she inherits a funeral home, she is forced to return from the city to the small town of Witch Woods to breathe life into the business. It is a grave responsibility, but Laurel is determined that this will be no dead-end job. There she has to contend with her manipulative and overly religious mother, more than one ghost, and a secretive but handsome accountant. When the murder of a local woman in the funeral home strangles the finances, can Laurel solve the murder? Or will this be the death of her business?
Book 2: Nothing to Ghost About Laurel Bay is conducting a funeral when someone is strangled in the bathroom. Now that there have been two deaths in the funeral home, business is as dead as a doornail. As Laurel sifts through the clues, she is faced with too many suspects, a wisecracking ghost, and a woman journalist who appears to be after more than Basil’s files. Laurel thought that inheriting the funeral home was an opportunity to die for, but it seems to be quite an undertaking.
Book 3: Make the Ghost of It Laurel Bay has discovered Basil’s secret, but there are soon more important things on her mind. Lewis Lowes, an old friend of Basil’s, is dying to go skydiving with him. Basil agrees, although he is up in the air about it. It soon turns out to be a grave mistake. When Lewis’s parachutes don’t open, he urns his place as the funeral home’s next body. The police suspect murder, and their main suspect is Basil. Laurel buries herself in sifting through the clues. Can she solve the crime before she becomes the next victim?
Book 4: Ghost Stories When Laurel’s mother, Thelma, hosts a group of writers in the belief they are writing about the Holy Ghost, she is horrified to find they are, in fact, writing ghost stories. Thelma decides to go on a road trip. Her GPS cannot get her there, so she hires an escort to show her the way. This turns out to be a grave mistake. Things go south when the escort’s naked body is found in Thelma’s bedroom. Will Laurel be able to steer the police in the right direction before they arrest her mother? Or will she come to a dead end?
USA Today best-selling author Morgana Best survived a childhood of deadly spiders and venomous snakes in the Australian outback. Morgana Best writes cozy mysteries and enjoys thinking of delightful new ways to murder her victims.
Laurel Bay has returned to Witch Woods for her father’s funeral. Having escaped as soon as she was able, returning is not something she wishes to prolong and she’s already planning her escape. Her father had other ideas. Upon the reading of the will, Laurel discovers that while her unpleasant mother has inherited the family home with the land it sits on, Laurel has inherited her father’s funeral home – the family business, all its assets and accoutrements. And knowing that her mother would quickly run it into the ground, is only the beginning of Laurel’s dilemma.
I received this boxed set from the author, though it was not a requirement that I write a review. But I was pleased to have four of the series’ books all together. It was a binge-read. An opportunity to get to really know the characters, their quirks and foibles, and this new-to-me author!
What a cast of characters it is too!!! From the overbearing, belittling mother, to the family accountant who makes things interesting, to all the ghosts that are set on complicating Laurel’s life. These are fun people, in a small town where everyone knows everyone, and anyone who is anyone all go to the “right” church.
Starting with the first volume, Laurel’s new life as the funeral home Director is fraught with dead bodies and a need to discover how they got that way. All while trying to breathe life back into her father’s life’s work and dodging her mother’s efforts to bring her in line and marry her off – to a suitor of momma’s choosing, of course!
You’ll shake your head, you’ll mutter at the antics, but most of all you’ll enjoy every moment of each volume. Personally, I look forward to the next instalment, I know you will too!!!
[Many thanks to the author for the opportunity to read this set. I was not required to, but this is my honest review. The opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.]
Four-book box set. Laurel inherits a funeral home when her father dies. Her mother is an evangelical religious nut and a royal pain in the neck. Laurel can see and talk to ghosts, who obviously are going to crop up in a funeral home. The four books cover her "adventures" as people keep getting killed there, often as a service is going on. and once falling out of the sky Then their ghost hangs around until Laurel finds their murderer. The blurb sounded awfully cutesy and I was afraid I wouldn't like it, but the characters are well done and I enjoyed them (except for the obnoxious mother) enough to keep reading. The plots were fairly similar, and in the last two books rely a lot on Laurel's crush, who happens to be her accountant. Described as a "humorous cozy", apparently referring to frequent use of silly puns, although the characters themselves are much funnier than the puns.
witch woods funeral home is one of my two favorite series. morgana best's books are great anyway because they are clean and fun. she's funny, sarcastic, and positive. the main characters have their problems but they have a good support system too. her books are just a positive place to be.
witch woods is a favorite because of ernie. no question, he's my favorite. his puns are to die for.
thelma makes me crazy, but kind of amuses me too. i actually know a couple people like her. how sad is that?
if you're wanting a cozy mystery with a paranormal flair, morgana best is your author. if you're a ghost lover, this is the series.

These books are short, entertaining, and FUN. The outrageous mother, Mum's best friend, Laurel's wanna-be boyfriend John - such awful people! And yet, I want to hear more! I need more stories about these nutcases!
And it's so nice that Basil and Laurel have a relationship that didn't go from "Nice to meet you" to between the sheets in the space of one chapter. Thank you to Morgana Best for writing these!
Ms Best has done at again! The books are fun stories that keep you guessing until the end. Have fun with the mother's antics while you play a game of clue. You won't be able to stop at just one book... the need to find out what happens next will keep you turning all the pages of the series
Kept me reading at all times.some of us would recognise the characters in people they know. Only maybe not as entertaining. I doubt I would have been as patient as Laurel! The ghosts are fun. Just plain good light reading. I reccomend this collection for enjoyable fun read.
I couldn’t even finish reading the first book. The mother character irritated me too much. The daughter was such a dishrag when it came to making sure her mother stayed out of her business. I know you need to respect your parents, but not when they don’t respect yours.
