A Cut So Deep

Rate this book
DAMIEN

Handsome. Dangerous. Tortured.

From a young age I learned love is a smokescreen. It does nothing but bring heartbreak and pain. My solace came from the darkness, from watching fear flicker in their pretty eyes. It’s all I knew.

Until her.

We’re forbidden. We shouldn’t crave this. But there’s no longer a way out.
Unless we find common ground, unless I let her in.

NESRIN

Polished. Pristine. Broken.

From a young age, I found solace in the dark, comfort in pain, and relief with a blade. It became normal to hide away, to watch the crimson trickle out as contentment flooded me. It’s all I knew.

Until him.

It’s illicit. It’s morally wrong. But desire has a mind of its own.
I thought I was free. But this love was a cut so deep, it would never heal.

Stepbrother romance with a twist!

E03-DC048-B86-B-4339-B317-3-F3-C48-D7-CE06

This was the story of a girl from a broken home who turned to cutting in order to deal with depression and anxiety. The heroine’s name was Nesrin (means Wild Rose) and she is the daughter of a famous actress. Nesrin doesn’t like the limelight and gets extremely anxious in crowds. Her father left when she was young and her mother is a harsh woman who doesn’t show affection to Nesrin.

When her mother gets married to a rich man, Nesrin is sent to live with his three sons while the parents are on their honeymoon. The three sons are all in their twenties while Nesrin is eighteen and between high school and college. The three sons are all handsome guys, of course. Their names are Damien, Cassian and Finn Thorne.

I didn’t mind the fact that Nesrin was a cutter, but I think there were times when it made her look pretty weak, even though she did other things that made her seem strong. Also I liked the fact that she talked about her cutting to the Hero, Damian and though he told her not to do it ever again, it wasn’t just an order. Damian actually gave her reasons not to do it again as well as alternatives.

One thing I didn’t like was the fact that Damian seems to be such a dark character and he has secrets so I thought the book would be much steamier then it was. It seemed like he was the kind of guy who liked dominance and he talked about the fact that if she wanted pain, she could come to him, but then the few times they were intimate, he was very gentle with her.

Also I thought the reveal about his darkness and his ex friend Creed, who they kept saying “took things too far” was a bit anticlimactic. Though there were other storylines that were pretty good regarding the family. Though I do think the stepbrother/stepsister issue wasn’t as big of a deal as they made it out to be. I think the age difference would be a bigger deal. Not that 10 years is a ton when both people are of age. I just think that for an eighteen year old, who hasn’t started college yet, it is a big gap.

Overall, though I did like the book and give it a 3.5 (rounded up to 4) stars. However, like I said, I expected it to be a bit hotter, so I give it a heat index 3 out of 5 flames 🔥🔥🔥. I think I just was expecting more steam because I am used to it from Dani Rene.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

this book was really corny and gave me 2012 wattpad vibes but in this case that is not good. the book deals with self harm and as someone who used to self harm, i personally don’t think it was written well. it came off as being written to be edgy and to have a reason for the main love interest to get angsty with the main character. the main character was your typical “i’m not like other girls” character. i thought the author was gonna have her not be a virgin and i was gonna be happy because tbh i’ve yet to read a dark romance where the main girl isn’t a virgin but instead the author wrote a cringey scene where a guy didn’t want to be with her because she self harms.

i liked that they were in college for the book because i can’t tell you how tired i am of high school dark romance but tbh they might as well had been still in high school because it still gave that dark romance feel.

the main love interest was your typical boading male but he was nothing worth swooning over. he kept calling the main girl “wild rose” and it was so corny and weird. i don’t understand what are romance authors obsession with finding cute random nicknames for their characters? it’s never cute PLEASE give it the fuck up im begging. there’s also a really cringe scene where 36% into the book his brother is like “you’re falling for her” and im like dude you’ve known her for barely a week and had like 2 conversations with her, please.

this book felt like the author was trying to make too much happen, too fast with only 300 or so pages in the book. it was very insta lovey when i feel like, if you’re going to write dark romance you need to have slow burn.

I thought this story superficial and the male character was so immature for his age...

***4,5 "A Rose among Thornes!!!" stars***

IT'S LIVEEEE!!!!

"You'll have to be my favorite secret."

This was a beautiful, even though forbidden story. It was a story that cut so deep that you will never be able to forget it!!!
This story got to me from the very first page.
I loved the storyline, even though i was expecting a little bit more darkness, and i loved very much the main characters and i can not wait for more of this crew...

"I don't know what this is between us.
But I know that as wrong as it is, I can't stop it."

What was about this book???
Nesrin was a broken girl under her mother's shadow... She was fighting against depression and anxiety with her only weapon a blade...
And then, her mother remmaried and everything changed for her because of her three new stepbrothers, and especially Damien, the most difficult of them all!!!

"I'm so broken, so fucked up from the way my body craves this, I doubt I'll ever have a normal life.
I can finally breathe."

Damien had his own demons to deal... The load that it was upon his shoulders was very heavy...
He didn't want to want Nesrin, but she managed to get under his skin from the very first moment...
He tried to resist to that pull between them, but they started to bond unexpectendly with invisible ties!!!
But they were stepsiblings and their age gap was too big (9 years!), but are these reasons to stop the heart for wanting what it really desires???

"I'm destructive. I've broken far too many fragile things in my life. And this time, it will be no different because I will break Nesrin Ellington."

Well, I loved Nesrin very much!!! I never saw her as a weak person because of her choice of outlet... The only strange thing was that she was so strong on other situations!!!
The truth is that she hadn't an easy life under her mother's demands and her life was hiding too many surprises for her, but with Damien by her side was much stronger!!!

"No matter how much I try to deny how I feel about him, I can't because Damien Thorne has engraved himself in my bones. And there's no cut deep enough to extricate him."

Damien was soooo perfect in a dark way!!!
The truth is that i was expecting a little more dark secrets and behavior, and i feel a little bit cheated, but he was perfect for Nesrin. I love how he was approaching her and how he was trying to give her other outlets to get her mind away from blades.
His love was made to give strength and Nesrin was a very lucky girl...

"She silences my demons when she needs to, but she also plays with them when they seek her out."

I really loved this story... These two were perfect for each other...
But the truth is that even though this was a forbidden love from many aspects, it didn't feel so hard to be accepted from the readers and the characters in the book...
But to be honest here, i didn't really care!!!
I just loved this story and this characters and i can not wait for Cassian's story!!!

"I'll find you, even in the dark."

What’s this book about? (I'm trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
Damien doesn’t want to give into the feeling that’s lurked into his being ever since he laid eyes on Nesrin. They’re not supposed to see each other that way. She’s too young. It’s forbidden. She’s broken. She finds peace by the blade. She doesn’t take center stage. They both know their feelings are wrong. Their love is cut that would never heal.
Sensitive readers, beware: Themes of depression and self-harm.

This is my favorite Dani René read this year (and I’ve read them all!!! LOL). I was hooked from page one. The lead couple’s chemistry was deliciously juicy. CHARACTER CHEMISTRY ON FLEEK! Their circumstances were taboo, but I shipped them so hard. I loved the lead girl; she was down-to-earth and so relatable. Nesrin was absolutely precious and I wanted to hug her and tell her that it would be all right. Damien… He was an incredible leading man that intrigued me from the start. Spicy and swoon-worthy! They were an entertaining couple and their steam was FUEGO!!! The entire family setting was at times hilarious and emotional at the same time. Damien showed admirable traits around his family.
This was a fast-paced read that had me captivated. I couldn’t stop reading. I finished it in the matter of hours. Dani served all the feels with this story and I can’t wait to read what’s next. The brothers made an outstanding impression in book one.
I recommend this to lovers of age gap/taboo romances, strong heroines and mysterious but attractive AF leading men.

So Dani René gave us, this time, a dark, twisted forbidden romance that's so good 😍😍😍

A Cut So Deep is intense, raw and painfully beautiful.

Damien & Nasrin are so alike: broken, lonely, both used to the darkness....

They are like the missing piece of each other.

Being apart, from the first moment, is impossible.Their connection is too strong, too deep.

But their love is forbidden, and there are so many secrets that could reap them apart...

The story catch your attention from the first word.
The main characters are masterfully described and you can feel each of their emotions: the pain, the rage, the jalousy, the love....

But it's not just that, 'cause Dani created a whole world you can't help but being curious about:
Thorne Haven has other secrets that are waiting to come out, other sons whose stories need to be told.
And i can't wait ... 😏😏😍😍😍🖤🖤🖤

Dnf at 40%. Not gonna rate since I didn’t get past 50%, but suffice it to say I just couldn’t get into this one. Although the characters were supposed to be college age or older, this one really read like a high school romance. The H, who was ~28 years old, was the most immature one of the bunch, and would easily pass for 16/17. Not for me.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting for this book and let me just say, it is totally worth the wait! I devoured this book in one sitting! I had to keep reading to find out what happens between Damien and Nesrin. These are two troubled souls brought together unexpectedly. Some say that they shouldn’t be together, that it’s taboo, but when you have attraction for another, nothing should stand in your way!

This story touches on a sensitive subject that affects so many people and this author tells it with complete grace and dignity and actually helps you to understand why people end up on that path. Nesrin may be young, but she is definitely a strong female character that you can’t help but connect with. Damien, while perceived as being cold and unloving, worked his way into my heart. As you read, you can’t help but hope that these two can battle all the outside forces that are against them.

Words can’t really express how much I enjoyed this book and I could actually feel the emotions between these two. There are also many twists and turns that you won’t see coming and I wasn’t putting this book down until I finished the very last word. An absolutely brilliant read!

What a beautiful and tragic story of Damien and Nesrin.
There was instant attraction for both of these people, but they were afraid of love, scared to feel.
My heart split in two with Nesrin's story, so complicated and vengeful. I still don't know how she survived what she did!
And Damien, the cold-hearted, blue eyed, gorgeous specimen of a man, has not had an easy life either. His background is just as dreadful and sad as Nesrin's. And yet they come together and cautiously try to make things work between them, trying to ignore the outside influence and interference.
This book touches on a sensitive subject, and it is not made lightly. Dani delicately and painstakingly writes about this subject with care and passion.
I loved this story and look forward to what's to come!

This was my first time reading Dani René and I had mixed emotions about A Cut So Deep.

First off, I'd like to say that this book has a very important and meaningful message and for that, it was incredibly poignant and beautiful. I appreciated the author's approach to speaking about mental illness in a very real and raw way and I think Dani René did an excellent job on this front.

Unfortunately, I did not love this book as much as I had hoped to. The premise was very interesting and eye-catching and I couldn't wait to dive right in. However, very early on, I realized that I couldn't quite get into the writing style and this persisted throughout the entire book. My main issue was that the story felt like it was stagnant for a major portion of the book. For instance, I was at around 50-60% and I still felt like I was in the 20% area, as far as pacing is concerned. I attribute this to the lack of development in the characters and the romance which, in hindsight, was my most significant issue.

When it came to the romance, it was established really early on (37%) that the characters were falling for each other. Now, when you make the characters fall in love so quickly, there is the difficulty of making sure you allow the relationship to evolve over time so that the feelings at the start develop into something more, something stronger. Otherwise, what is the point of the rest of the book if the feelings are expressed early and them don't evolve. This is what I struggled with here. Nesrin and Damien claimed to feel strongly for one another early on but then nothing else really happened to grow their romance.

In addition, I couldn't even buy into their eventual love for one another because I felt like it came out of nowhere. I didn't feel like they really spent a substantial amount of time together, learning about each other to fall in love. Instead, there was attraction and it was almost taken for granted that the attraction meant emotions were there too. In that respect, I felt like a lot of this book involved telling and not showing and so the connection between the characters didn't feel natural to me because I didn't see it happening, I was being told it was there. For instance, Damien claimed Nesrin had broken down so many of his walls but I was like ok, when did this happen and how? Because they didn't have a huge amount of heart to heart moments with each other especially because they kept pushing each other away.

Essentially, from about 40%, things got really cliché and the characters started making statements about each other that were simply unsubstantiated i.e. "She silences my demons when she needs to, but she also plays with them when they seek her out." I can maybe understand what these demons of his were but what I didn't understand was what exactly about these "demons" Nesrin finally silenced? Because he never really acted out or behaved in any way that seemed like the product of "demons". And when/how did she play with them? It felt more like that was thrown in to make him seemed like the stereotypical tortured bad boy which, honestly he wasn't. Again, it wasn't shown, just told.

As for the characters, they were hugely underdeveloped. Damien and Nesrin stayed the same throughout the entire book, half heartedly resisting each other until, out of the blue, they stopped resisting each other and fell head over heels and finally at the end, for convenience sake, became changed people. They could have had a much better, fleshed out arc. Also, the characters seemed not to act there age. For example, Damien, who was 27, seemed more like he was in his late teens and early 20's, while Nesrin, at times, seemed like she was in her 20's as opposed to being newly 18.

Then there was the issue of Damien's brothers with whom, Nesrin spent a very short amount of screentime with before knowing so much about them. When did she learn these things, character traits, personality traits and the like because the scenes that I read between them weren't filled with deep bonding. I didn't feel like it was adequately demonstrated enough to indicate how she knew what she did about them personally and how she came to suddenly love them as brothers too.

Finally, I struggled with some elements of the writing. For starters, descriptions of exhibitionism were being termed voyeurism, then there were inconsistencies where one minute Damien's eyes were caressing then the next they were cold. Other issues were with the sudden mention of family members (no spoilers) that had never been mentioned before but who clearly had an effect on Nesrin. Also, I took issue with Damien constantly saying he tried to steer clear of Nesrin when he obviously didn't. The ending too was anticlimactic with the surprise because, quite honestly, I guessed what it would be extremely early on. And finally, there was an awkward quality to the writing at times where it seemed like, in an effort to include imagery in the writing, the effect was lost in overbearing descriptive sentences.

Apart from these issues however, the book was still a fine read.

These problems aside, I did really like the storyline and could feel that there were the blossoms of a genuine chemistry between Nesrin and Damien, that if better developed, could have been great. I appreciated that we did see deeper feelings between them, albeit in a fleeting manner, during intimate scenes but even those could've been more significant. I will say I was engaged with the book the entire time and it did keep me reading on. I didn't ever feel like putting it down and for that, it definitely earned points from me. I think I am interested in exploring more of Dani René's writing because her stories do seem to be very interesting but for execution purposes, this book wasn't my favorite.

Emotional, sexy and full of angst, A Cut So Deep was a pretty good read.

Overall, I wasn't blown away by this book but it held it's own and I do think many will really enjoy it. Unfortunately, I had too many issues with it to wholeheartedly love it but it wasn't a bad book. I am giving A Cut So Deep 3.5 stars and would recommend it to fans of enemies-to-lovers and forbidden romance.

This whole story really cringey. Tbh I don’t know I got through it 😂 The story didn’t flow, just felt kinda disjointed, like they kept moving from one extreme end to the other. The characters were all just so immature and had not real depth. Honestly, the whole story seemed far fetched and had no depth whatsoever.

A Cut so Deep is the first book for the Thornes & Roses series and I have to admit it blew me away. Do you ever have an author that you read that as soon as their book is released you want to read the book, but you know that it is going to rip your insides out, but you know if you do not read it you know you are missing out on something extraordinary? Well, that is Dani's books. I knew I had to read A Cut so Deep but I knew I was going to have an emotional bomb thrown at me.

This book is an age-gap, emotional rollercoaster that I could not put down. Damien is a god in this book. I fell in love with him and this story. Nesrin is a younger woman that is in need of love and understanding. These two characters are a dream come true. This book was a book I did not know I needed until I read it.

If you have not read A Cut so Deep, please give it a chance. It is the rollercoaster you need.

THE REVIEW FOR A CUT SO DEEP By DANI RENÉ

GENRE:CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE.

.......

Her biting tone makes me hard. I can’t help it. I love a woman with spirit. Makes it so much more worthwhile when I break them.

Nesrin has always craved her mother's love. But after being abandoned by her father and treated coldly by her Mother...She finds Solace in hurting herself.
Damien has never believed in love..He has seen the disaster love leaves in its wake.
Can two broken people mend each other's soul and find solace in one another? ..
Or..Will they wreck their world?..

don’t know how I’ll say goodbye to him, but I know he’ll be the one cut that’s too deep to heal from

......
I seriously have a book hangover. Damien was swoon-worthy...when others find Nesrin as freak ..he saw the pain she hides behind her scars...the love which blossoms between them were pure in spite of them being step-siblings. ..
The author has marvelously handled the sensitive issue of self-harming.....through Nesrin's character she has shown us that its not normal but not shame worthy too...there will be someone whom you can talk to about it..

Love captures you when you least expect it, and it’s a cut so deep, I’m afraid it will never heal if he were to walk away.

Nesrin and Damien are love. Sometimes fate brings two people together because there is literally no other person for them. They are both troubled souls who when apart don't function but bring them together and their worlds are right. The story is deeply emotional and Dani deals with a difficult subject so beautifully and does not over dramatise it. The age gap never bothered me I really didn't see it as an issue. Nesrin is what some may call an old soul with such a strong personality that I wanted to put my arms around and protect so many times. Damien is the man I want on my side fighting for me. I loved the connection they had and not just the sexual one even though it is hot hot hot, the bond they had was unshakeable. I loved everything about this story.

Where do i start. The guys in the book are in their mid 20s and act so immature so many little things are happening it makes your head spin. TW: self harm(cutting) i skim read those parts it's like every little random thing was added to try to make it interesting and like suspenseful but to me it just feel flat.. i did like the dirty talk.

Dani Rene has yet again weaved such a raw, heartbreaking, intense, and beautifully told story!

I could not get enough of A Cut So Deep! My heart did not only break, it shattered into so many broken pieces reading Nesrin and Damien’s forbidden, yet so delicate and beautiful, blossoming relationship.

I enjoyed their chemistry, the forbidden-ness of their relationship, and just how these two danced around each other with all of those secrets!

Trust me, if you love Dani Rene books, you’ll LOVE this one! It has to be one of my favorites by her. And the cover? TO DIE FOR!

I love this world she has created and cannot wait to read more!

Dani rené is a some what new author to me but I’ve since been reading all her books and I’ve been lucky to receive this story before it’s release.

Yes the book has a very sensitive subject and an age gap some might think it’s taboo but Dani really handled it brilliantly well and I didn’t find myself constantly thinking about that aspect of the story.

This story is absolutely incredible the characters were all amazing and each brought something to the storyline going forward. I was intrigued from the get go to see where Nesrin’s journey would take her. Damien is the eldest brother who is instantly attracted to Nesrin and can’t quite make her out at first, both have dark pasts and I think it’s what brings these two souls together, finding out their way in life and who to trust.

My words won’t do this book justice but I highly recommend it, if you haven’t read a dani rené book please do so you will not regret it.

Note: I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Trigger warnings: Cutting, emotional trauma.

DAMN - Nesrin and Damien were one hell of a couple. I mean the amount of ups and downs they go through just to get to their HEA is just staggering and mind-spinning in general. And yes I felt a lot of emotions, negativity was high on the list.

But regardless of a difficult journey to be the slightly unconventional and a bit chaotic couple, it was a fascinating and turbulent ride to enjoy.

I mean the romance, the chemistry, the banter, the hatred - the list goes on really- really added to the feeling of being with Nesrin and Damien.

Plus the writing and the overall plot itself was one heck of a ride, and definitely not an expected one, but epically enjoyable regardless.

Until the next read,

‘A Cut So Deep’ by Dani Rene of the new series, ‘Thorns & Roses’ is a story about heartache and internal pain- an age gap, stepbrother romance whose characters are struggling to cope, leaving them swallowed in their own emotions within their own darkness. Dani gives us all the emotions as she explores these two characters as they somehow find home within each other’s pain.

Our heroine Nesrin is struggling, she’s broken-she’s a tornado of repressed emotions and pain that is pushing at the seams of her heart. A pain that with nowhere to go eats at her, and causes her to cope in dangerous and harmful ways to herself- seeking release in cutting. She’s trapped in the shadow of her actress mother, overwhelmed by the unwanted attention and expectations this places on here. She’s drowning in her own anxiety and depression. Not only is she weighed down by who her mother is, but her mother is cold, distant, and hard on her, catalyzing some of Nesrin’s issues. When her mother marries, Nesrin finds herself living with three unexpected stepbrothers - all three slightly older than her and devilishly handsome, particularly Damian, a cold badboy that has all the alpha charm and all the menacing darkness. He has an energy about him, one that you just know is connected to a vulnerable beating heart- a heart we see starts to beat for Nesrin.

These characters carry a darkness- they are not always easy to read about because they carry so much pain. Even when you don’t understand them, you empathize with them, because they are all just trying to cope, even if that expression isn’t always helping them heal, even if sometimes their coping is harming them or others. And, despite the ways in which they sometimes succumb to their darkness or struggle, especially Nesrin, there is a stoic grace, a gentle perseverance and subtle strength that is wrapped around them. As this romance evolves, so do our characters- this is as much about their individual paths to managing their own hurt, learning to process their complex feelings, and figuring out how to accept the parts of themselves that they hate the most. Their love has a sweet quality, even if the journey isn’t smooth- tender and intimate, even though both characters have so much going on inside them- and they find in each other someone who recognizes and shares their inner darkness. And, in accepting and loving each other they both find a pathway to accepting themselves. I appreciated Dani really letting us see the full range of Nesrin- and showing us what some might consider a “weakness” is actually a sign of strength- she’s a survivor, even if sometimes she’s overcome by her feelings. Walking in her shoes was really painful at times, but also incredibly emotionally impactful.

I picked this up mostly because of the taboo stepbrother/age gap troe that I love- and fellow lovers of these tropes should know this wasn’t much of a focus and less of an issue. The age gap wasn’t much of an explored, and the taboo isn’t really there. But, I was okay with this because the story here was much deeper, more complex and emotionally poignant than I expected. This was more about exploring the connection between two lost characters, their heartache and hurt. There are some twists and surprises, secrets and lies to unpack, so while the emotional turmoil weighs on your heart, your head is trying to piece together the truths. At times I found myself wanting to know or understand a little bit more, but the emotional impact was there, which mattered to me more. Because this is about battling your own emotional demons, the war within yourself, and that aspect of this story had me all in my feelings.

There are definitely some triggering subjects here, particularly around self-harm and mental health, so please proceed with caution if this is a trigger for you.

A Cut so Deep is a standalone, suspenseful romance novel (the first book in the Thornes &Roses series) with a darker tone that will keep you glued to the pages. I love Dani Rene's writing style, it's easy to follow, entertaining and emotional and this story was beautifully presented.

The heroine of this story, battles with anxiety and depression and I think the author did a great job in the way these subjects are approached. This is the kind of story that grips your heart, with complex and relatable characters, twists, turns, and secrets to keep you on your toes. Nesrin and Damien are two emotionally scarred people that find solace in each other. Their relationship is forbidden because they are step-siblings and there's also an age gap between them but their connection is so strong from the first moment they meet that is impossible for them to keep their distance. They complete each other, together they are stronger and can fight away from their demons. There were a lot of moments when my heart ached for both of them. Also, the secondary characters were well rounded and made the story even more appealing. Can't wait to know more about Cassian and Finn.

Overall this was a wonderful dark romance with a psychological twist that will tug at your heartstrings. I highly recommend it!

Wow. That's it. Just, wow. First of all... Trigger warning. This book depicts some gut-wrenchingly touchy subjects, like cutting, and the author doesn't shy away from delving into the details about the how and the why. Instead, you get a brutally honest look at the subject. For someone who has been there, I found it cathartic in all its honesty. Some may find it hard to read, though. Now that that's out of the way I can tell you why it is one of the best stories I've read this year.

Ms. Rene will take you on an emotional roller coaster like none you have ever experienced. All of the characters are dealing with past trauma. All of the characters have some serious demons. All of the characters are believable and it's easy to slip into their world. The storyline is dark and desturbing, and it will infect you with both pain and pleasure. It's just plain intense from the very first word to the very last. Even after finishing it, I can't get it out of my head. It haunts you in the most beautiful way. I could feel my heart being torn out of my chest, and at the same time I could feel it becoming whole again.

If you are a lover of emotional reads, incredible character, steamy passion, and not afraid of the dark then this should be at the top of your TBR pile.

stop stop stop stop it. I loved this. I am a huge fan of step-sibling romances, and this book is literally the perfect example of why. The whole vibe of “I want you but I know I shouldn’t but I can’t help but to” is the vibe I demand every book I read have.

Was the book perfect? Nope, I found there were a few pacing issues and plot points that were thrown into the fold very quickly without much preamble. That being said, the writing was beautiful, the representation on mental health was nice, if not well done, the romance was believable while being angsty and still delivering on the spice. Best of all, the author avoided doing miscommunication which could have been sooo easy to do and for that alone I applaud her.

I need no NEED the next two instalments in the series like right now.

This book was gifted to me and I swear there’s something so cool about receiving a book you’ve never heard about from a friend who loved it. I adore you Maxine <3

He was supposed to be her guardian. The big step-brother she would look up to, the one she listens to when her mother and new husband were in their honeymoon
She was old enough to choose for herself!
Now she is the rose amongst the thornes
Nasrin was the girl and then young woman who didn't live up to her mother's expectations, the one who knew she was not loved and not wanted, dealing with depression and cutting herself for this was the only way she knew to free her pains and emotions she couldn't talk about
But Damian has his own demons to deal with, his own history that made him believe love is non-existent; that it is an allusion that brings pain.
He became her rock. The one giving her challenges and new ways to be free.
He was her love and hope for future
And Nasrin became his wild rose, the one accepting the thorne that he was and helps him to forgive himself. She questioned him, made him think, made him feel and made him want her like he never did before.
What are the secrets of the past? They must be revealed for them to heal and make a burning rose into a phoenix
"In the darkness we find solace. She's my ocean – deep and endless – and I want to drown in her. Nothing compares to being beside her. And I know if she walks away, I'll break"
I loved them so much, loved their courage, felt for their pain.
This love, which deals and faces the truth and accepting each other for who they are is strong and inspiring
This book is important. Depression is very hard if one has to deal with it and it is essential to know there is a way out and a full and happy life beyond.
it is a standalone series and I cannot wait for the next book!!

Before I start the review to this book I want to share how it effected me.
I loved this book? Dani did justice to the problem of "cutting". You see, I have a daughter who did that and I never knew until a friend of hers let me know. She was so good at hiding it. Once I knew, I got help for her. I am proud to say she tackled that demon and just recently graduated with a MSW, Masters of Social Work and is now a therapist helping others. Just had to get my piece out there.
Nesrin is a very troubled girl. To release her pain and anxiety she would cut herself. The pain made her feel and released that stress and anxiety that would build within her. She was a very unhappy girl. Her father left when she was young, she had her mother but Nesrin never measured up to her expectations. Nesrin's mom is remarrying a very rich man who has three grown sons. At the wedding, the eldest son, Damien, didn't agree with the marriage but came anyways. He at one point met the eyes of Nesrin and saw her, knew she was different. Nesrin spies Damien being taken care of by another woman. He saw her watching. And so it begins. He didn't want to want her, to fall for her, but she got under his skin. They both have deep wounds, kindred spirits. The attraction deepens even though it's wrong. Until it can't be denied anymore. Damien finds out her secret and tells her to never do that any more, he will take care of her if she feels that need to cut. They eventually tell of their love for one another. That is when secrets are revealed and Nesrin understands some of why she was treated as she was. Damien and Nesrin will go away with or without anyone's blessing. Loved the entire book and ending. Please read this one.

Dani knocked this one out of the park.
She tackles sensitive topics but she deals with them with grace. And like usual, she adds a dark and delicious twist. It wouldn't be a Dani Rene story without the twist...that I never see coming.
A Cut so Deep has it all, twists, turns, OMG moments, sexy schmexy, strong heroines and alphas a-holes who you want to junk punch and kiss at the same time. ACSD was everything.
This is my new fav Dani Rene novel

This story has it all. Wow! I loved their journey.
Damien and Nesrin the moment she sees him in her mother's greenhouse with another woman brings forward a anger and jealousy that she can't explain.

Damien looks up to see this young woman simply watching and being the man that he is enjoys watching her watch him.

What happens next is the beginning of a very emotional and at times heartbreaking journey between broken people trapped in cold hearted places, with what seems no way out.
What happens when the man you see is one of your new stepbrothers after your mother remarries and your whole life you knew has forever gone.
Nesrin knows the feelings shouldn't become a reality, however Damien won't allow her to run.
Damien doesn't want to want his new much younger stepsister.

I highly recommend this book the sensitivity shown throughout some very serious issues are written beautifully.

5 *BROKEN* STAR

A Cut so Deep is the first book of Thornes & Roses series. This is a dark, age gap, emotional taboo romance. I'm fall in love with Damien.
We can read this story in present time, from Nesrin & Damien's point of view. I'm totally understand their feelings, this is unstoppable. The story is totally fascinating. The emotions of the book are indescribable. I can't find the words. While I was reading I felt all the feelings, I cried and I didn't want to leave this world.
When you start to read A Cut so Deep you will be lost in this story. You lose the connection with the real world. I highly recommend it!

“𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙪𝙧𝙩, 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙣, 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙮.”

I REALLY enjoyed this book.
I liked Nesrin( & loved her name), and the Thorne siblings too.
As far as the story goes, it definitely grabbed me, and the suspense kept me reading. I think the reveal was just a tiny bit lackluster though, I was expecting something MORE, and I didn’t really get that.
As far as the gap, I didn’t really see it as being overwhelmingly large.
I think I expected a little more darkness than what I was delivered, but it wasn’t necessarily a negative.
Overall though, I’d recommend.
