Lily: As hard as stone…that was the first thing that crossed my mind. Off limits…that was the second.
Stone: She intrigued me. I wanted to know her. I heard the absolutely disgusting things they called her, and I knew she was being bullied…but I wanted more.
But I couldn’t have more. My conscience, my job contract, and the law say that she can’t give me more, that it would be a crime.
I’ve never wanted to be a criminal so badly.
18+ for dark themes, disturbing elements, language, and sexual situations.
A budding novelist of forbidden love stories, Ashley St. Clare lives for the illicit, the forbidden, the clandestine...
She is currently working on a literary experiment, a novel of forbidden love between one teenaged writer and an accomplished author four scandalous decades older. Their passion, set against the backdrop of the South Carolina salt marshes, will resonate with the reader even after the story is over.
A WARNING BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK: The first half of this book is not about love at all. The blurb talks about the main character, Lily, being bullied. It was not bullying; it was straight up abuse, mostly emotional, but some physical and sexual as well. Lily is a senior in high school when the book takes place, so I expected some bullies and teasing. That is not what happened. Just be aware before you read this that some of the abuse is triggering. Even if it's not a trigger for you, it is absolutely horrific.
The second half is better. Also, the writing is not bad. Those are the only reasons it gets 2 stars.
This book started off well I felt the story line was good but all off a sudden it took a drastic turn and I felt a little lost, the teacher Mr stone first kissed her and told her he loved her in the same day, he was able to be her gaurdian, take her out of school all with out being questioned.
He was so madly in love with her but yet he let her go back to an abusive step father.
I hate hate hate giving any negative feedback on book because I know someone worked super hard on it but I also love reading honest reviews. So that's why this only gets 2 stars. Xx
Ok not weakly written but weak characters that just made me want to throw things. I know that’s a sign that you wrote so well it made me want to jump into the story and hurt these people but because it made me so angry I couldn’t enjoy the rest of the story I just wanted to slap all the weak willed women bullies in the school the dominant man wouldn’t let the girl think for her self it was just too much for me. But if I were an English teacher grading on the depth of the characters and the feelings that they evoke I would’ve given you an A.
Book Name: Mr. Stone: A Story of Forbidden Love Author: Ashley St. Clare Book Genre: Dark Romance Warnings: Dark theme, 18+ My rating: 2 stars
The only reason that I finished this book is that the writing is good but Mr. Stone, characters and plot need some work. There were some good reading moments but the content was predictable quite soon in the book. If you really into this genre you may want to add it to your library.
This would probably have been better if written first person, single POV. I was into the story so I persevered, but I was completely turned off Mr Stone by the end. Not due to kink, but because - without giving anything away - he behaved in a ridiculous way towards the end of the book, to the point that I no longer liked his character.
I rarely ever leave reviews and definitely never five star. This book had me sucked in from the very beginning just the right amounts of forbidden, sexual tension and drama.
I was bullied in high school and can relate to sitting on the floor of a bus because kids wouldn't move over. I didn't love so much about this book and wished for more for Lily in so many ways. But I give the a 2.5/3 for the strength of Lily to deal the best she could in devastating circumstances.
