Review posted at The Armchair Reader.

This is the first book by Elizabeth Noble that I've read. Sadly, I wasn't a fan and had quite a few problems with this book, the most that I just couldn't get into the relationship.

Jay is the son of a homophobic Montana senator and the manager of their family's hunting resort. He and his father barely get along, because his father is such a bastard. He's making Jay marry a woman he barely knows even though everyone knows that Jay is gay. What most don't know is that he's a sub looking for a Dom. He's surprised to find one the in new head of security his father hired for the resort. People have started going missing recently, young men's bodies deposited in the forest on the grounds and torn to shreds. The two, while developing their relationship, will have to find out who, or what is causing the deaths, and why -- all while dealing with Jay's father and their own family secrets.

I really started getting into the book in the beginning. The writing itself is fine, but I started finding some of the choices the author made a little strange. The first thing that bothered me was how deeply they started to fall in love, only after a day or two of being around each other. At first I didn't think it was insta-love, but then I realized that it really was, just without the pretty words. All the actions are there and I missed that early development of the relationship, where they get to know each other.

The second thing ties into this, and it is how they relate to each other in the context of a BDSM relationship and BDSM play. I kept waiting for them to have some sort of discussion about their limits, or at least talking about that int he narrative through Jay's voice. I never got to hear why he needs what he needs. Though I might be able to gather why after finishing the book, the lack of knowledge about him in particular but also their relationship made it seem like Eric was just taking things over and Jay was a pushover. It didn't endear me to Eric, because without rules that are laid out for me, Eric's decisions about Jay's behavior and what he sometimes forbids and allows him to do seemed arbitrary.

So I had a really hard time seeing these two together. I wish I could say that it was because so much time and effort was spent on the mystery. And it was, to an extent. But in the end, I still found that I was confused about what was going on. I wondered if maybe there was a conscious decision made to limit the knowledge of the "killer" to make it more nightmarish. The problem with that is that even though we might not know exactly in the end what the thing is, I still felt like I needed to know the motivations, and I didn't. There's an allusion to a vague notion of why this might have happened, but nothing more than that, and I felt cheated out of an ending. There is a resolution of the smaller family secret subplot, but it was again unsatisfying to me because we're told in the beginning of the book how much Eric loves subs like Jay, who are strong and maybe a little stubborn, but not pushovers, and I wanted Jay to really take a stand, and not under any influence but his own.

So, I'm sad to say that I just couldn't get into this book and I can't recommend it. I can't say if the book is similar in any way to the author's previous work, so fans of the author might or might not enjoy this. I'm still looking forward to reading the D/s post-apoc series by this author to see what I think, but I'll probably be more careful in the future in regards to checking reviews first before reading her books.

I had a love/hate relationship with this book. I loved Jay and Eric. They were an incredible couple and their Dom/sub relationship is what kept me reading. I also liked the fact that they went into their relationship without worrying about Jay being Eric’s boss. It was never even mentioned as a problem. I also thought the writing style was excellent. It was easy to read with just enough inner monologue to keep the reader informed with becoming boring. So why only three stars?

Even though that part of the book was a 4 or 5 star read for me the serial killer plot was a flop. I hated the way Jay kept opening himself up to being kidnapped. I also didn’t care for the violence. I’m going to check out other books by Elizabeth Nobel because I think she’s a gifted writer.

3.5 Stars ~ I had a bit of a wild book buying spree in June of this year at one of my favorite publishing houses. Considering Elizabeth Noble is a personal favorite of mine and the description just yanked at me, I was drooling to read 'For the Long Run'. Okay, so why did it take me so long? Backlog my friends, a huge backlog that has taken most of the year to start whittling down. Finally I can read this intriguing story of Jay and Eric.

Jay is an only child in an influential family, his father is a Senator, and Jay is gay. Not a good idea in Daddy's mind and to be honest I didn't like his father from the get-go. Jay manages the family-owned resort in Montana and does a great job. Unfortunately, there have been a number of murders in the area with the killer always dumping the body in the same place on the resort grounds. Jay's dad hires Eric, a former homicide detective, to take over security at the lodge. Eric has a very interesting opinion on these murders as he's seen this signature many times and has the files and documents to prove it. But his theory almost seems a little far-fetched, at least until they start investigating.

The investigation portion of this story, the murders, and the thrilling finale are very exciting. There's a lot I can't reveal because of spoilers, but take my word that I was more than surprised a few times. The romance and D/s part of the tale was a wee bit iffy for me in parts. Meeting in a bar isn't out of the question and is certainly an oft-used trope, except this is a bar in a small town in Montana. Even that didn't bug me too much. What did is that upon seeing one another, Jay and Eric automatically knew their respective roles. In a BDSM bar I can see that happening but not where they met. It was fun to see them interact and fall in love so my qualms with the plot didn't affect my enjoyment of the story.

I enjoyed the mystery and suspense part of this book very much and I did like Jay and Eric. All in all, if you like a murder mystery with a paranormal hint this might be the book for you.

Excellent mm romance adventure book

I really enjoyed this book and think it’s a great read. I love all of the genres that are mixed together in this story, mm romance, bdsm, fantasy and adventure. The idea behind it about the things that go bump in the night and what they are is really well developed and I was kept guessing till nearly the end. Lots of fun to read.

I have purchased some of her books but haven't gotten around to reading them and I'm pleasantly surprised by this one. D/s book with suspense and paranormal subtones.

Nice story, enjoyed the character interactions and wish we would see more of this couple.

This is a new-to-me author plus a new-to-me narrator, so this was taking a double chance for me. While the setup is one I’ve read many times—two guys meet in a bar and hook up, only to find themselves faced with each other in an awkward situation later—it was the characters who pulled me in and kept my interest throughout the story.

Jay is in an unfair situation thanks to his jerk of a father, but he keeps towing the line and going along with things with an eye towards eventually breaking free of his hold and finally getting to live his life the way he wants…without his father’s strings attached.

Jay and Eric fit easily together, and their connection is obvious and strong. Keeping up appearances for Jay’s sake with his father isn’t ideal, but it all comes down to the same thing—playing the long game to get what they really want in the end. I really liked the two of them as a couple, and the super hot physical scenes were that bonus cherry on top.

The murders that keep happening which seem to be connected somehow to Jay’s family’s resort add a strong element of suspense to the story. That there’s some kind of unidentified supernatural element involved notches the thriller aspect up as well. Add in some family drama—Jay’s dad is a real piece of work—and it makes for an interesting read/listen.

I thought the narration was really good. There was an definite differentiation of voices for the characters, and expression of emotion at the appropriate points. I was easily enveloped in the story as I listened, so I’ll be on the lookout for more from this narrator.

Overall, For the Long Run gets a solid 4 stars from me, with the narration getting 4.5 stars. If you’re a fan of erotic romance that includes a D/s relationship and a bit of suspense and drama, I’d recommend checking this one out. This book is meant for readers/listeners 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Jay has been forced to live a lie by his conservative father who is a senator. Jay is gay, but his father has forced him into the closet and even arranged a fiancée for him.
When people start turning up dead on the hunting resort property Jay manages, his father hires security to protect the lodgers

Enter Eric

Not only is Eric a trained security and investigations expert, he is also a Dom
Eric can't help but be drawn to Jay and his submissive side.
And for Jay, Eric is everything he has ever wanted in a partner

Despite the murder victims that are starting to turn up at the resort
Against his father's wishes
Jay and Eric pursue a secret relationship that soon becomes a danger for them both

This has a lot of smexy steamy scenes - instant attraction/love - intense moments-
really disliked dear old Dad - suspense - and the sweetest HEA

I did have problems with the narration at times - it lacked the excitement /expression that I was sensing from the characters
I also would have liked a deeper connection between the two main characters and some more details when it came to certain scenes and the reasoning behind them (me thing)
I didn't see the guilty party coming - however again I would have liked a bit more background, time with it/him/her (yeah not giving that away)

It wasn’t really surprising that I picked up For the Long Run as it hits all my buttons with the blurb. I wasn’t disappointed either, while there were a few hiccups in this story it was overall enjoyable and yes, very creepy. For the Long Run is also a story lovers of kink will like as the kink was very hot.

I’m not going to go deeper into the plot as the blurb sums it up nicely. Throughout the review I will add a few things, but to give more insight into the story will give too much away.

Just like with the author’s other stories, the writing for For the Long Run is well done. Told from 3rd person, the POV shifts between Jay and Eric. Not so much so that it’s constant head hopping, but enough that it gives a good insight into the story and the characters.

The writing is concise, giving not only a good glimpse into the world Eric and Jay live in, but also adds to the story. There are some downright scary and gruesome moments in this story and the author writes them well. Giving just enough away to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Jay and Eric are both well drawn-out and round characters. Unfortunately, they are the only ones in the story. The others are pretty much fillers or stereotypes. Jay’s father is the typical ladder climbing, abusive politician and his mum the typical politician’s wife, although she is supportive of Jay and doesn’t give into her husband very easily.

What is noticeable though, is the part where Jay and Eric are very reminiscent of the main characters of the author’s Sentry series. Character wise Jay is the spitting image of Nick and Eric of Todd. The character traits they portray are very similar.

Jay is the strong (willed) submissive who craves guidance, but is able to be independent if the situation calls for it. Stubborn at times, he cares deeply for Eric. It wasn’t insta!love, but there was instant craving. For their first meeting in a bar, Jay knew he wanted Eric. In fact, he showed a little too much insight into Eric’s character:

“He knew what he was doing; cared about his partner’s needs, and was willing to see his sub was provided for properly.”

That was just shortly into their first meeting. While that didn’t take away from their relationship as a whole, it made it clear as to where this was going.

Eric in turn is the very strong, capable, handsome and very inventive Dom. While hired as the head of security, he makes no bones about what he wants from Jay without pushing him too much. What did strike me as odd was the part where Eric and Jay never had a talk about limits, at least not on page. From the very start both Eric and Jay “get each other.” That made it so the romance was a little less believable for me. Fortunately, the kink was good. I’m a sucker for orgasm denial ;-)

The other little niggle for me was – in between fanning myself from the hot scenes or hiding behind the couch from the scary ones – that the author only shows the best in their relationship. There is a mention of a few things that need working on or the day after a scene that didn’t go so well, but nothing drawn out. It would have made their relationship more round if the ‘bad’ was shown along with the good.

The plot has three layers. The first and foremost is the relationship between Eric and Jay. This is also where the emphasis in the story lies. There are quite a few (sex) scenes. It didn’t take away from the story, because everything came together well

The second layer focuses on the murders and the mystery part of the story. Throughout the story people keep being murdered and dumped at the same site. It did make me wonder why the police did not set up surveillance at the dump site. The mystery and the suspense were done well. It’s was not overly horrific, but the thrills were there, along with the gore.

The only real niggle with this part of the plot was the supernatural element. It is more or less just thrown in there. There is no hint that monsters exist, it’s just there. I hadn’t read the keywords for the categories and judging by the blurb, I thought this was contemporary. Nope. Supernatural monster, killing since the 1700’s. While not wrong, the fact that it was just there threw me a bit. Jay didn’t even react to it either. I might have asked Eric what he was on when he mentioned real monsters.

Again we see the influence from the Sentries series as Eric and Jay go hunting for the creature.

The third layer was Jay’s asshole politician’s father who had way too much influence over Jay. Throughout the story there are several run-ins with dear old dad and how Jay handles them. This part was not overly intrusive, but added another layer to Jay’s character and the story.

Overall For the Long Run is a nice story with scary and gruesome parts and some hot kink if you can overlook a few bumps along the way. Fans of the author will either love this or find it much too similar to the Sentry series. If I look deeper into it, I might just see it as a Sentry story in contemporary surroundings, but without the slave element – real slaves that is, not the kink ones. Still, it was an enjoyable read.

Part mm romance, part Dom and Sub, part murder mystery, part political manipulation, and part paranormal, what more could you want for a truly entertaining and intriguing tale! This starts off as a sweet love story, along with some incredibly hot domination sex scenes, but slowly builds up into something so much more. Be prepared for something of the unearthly, the last 25% is a mind bend. An amazing piece of work. One little silly side remark, this author uses the word penis more often than most mm authors. Although this is the correct terminology I hate that word, cock, prick, all the slang words are more to my liking and more used in most mm stories. I find that word too technical and not into the gay sexual theme, for some odd reason I picture a tiny cock when I read that word. A very mild irritation, for me only maybe, but other than an absolutely amazing story.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am a huge fan of MM romance and this book totally did it for me. The story was so tender, emotional, full of that nice warm fuzzy feeling you get when you hear/read about true love no matter what barriers are thrown into the mix. The chance meeting and subsequent night Jay and Eric spent together before Eric found out Jay was his new boss, was absolutely beautiful and set the scene for a story that was so intense in it's tenderness, it blew my mind. For an author to pull those feelings of mine so far out there - that is an author I want to read more and more of.
I totally recommend this book.
This author has taken top spot on my favorite author's list.

Interesting page turner

This book had mystery, drama, fake relationship, and steamy love scenes. There was some BDSM scenes but not described that it would turn you off where you would want to quit reading it. It really was a late night page turner.

I just finished this book and I'm still not sure what to make of it. I felt like this book was trying to be too many things. The BDSM, the guy under his dad's thumb, and the paranormal murders just didn't mesh well together. Eric and Jay end up together really fast. I not even sure how Eric knew Jay was into BDSM since they never talk about it. They just seemed to fall into the relationship and didn't have any problems. Jay's relationship with his father seems strange since he doesn't seem cowed by his father and gives him attitude yet at the same time goes along with the fake marriage and lets his father hit him. It seems out of character to me for him to let his father do what he does. This wasn't a horrible book but at the same time I think this book just wasn't meant for me.

I’m definitely partial to books with a loving D/s theme as a core element of the story, so no surprise that I really enjoyed this book. The mystery was a nice bonus in my opinion – this is where the drama and angst took shape and the outcome was a surprise for me. There was really no angst at all in the relationship between Eric and Jay which was a pleasant change of pace as compared to most books. A couple of things that kept me from going with 5 stars included: Regardless, a very enjoyable book!!

I don't know why I never read this when I bought it, but Wow, wish I had. This was an excellent mix of mystery and erotica. The BDSM scenes were amazing and the supernatural parts fit right in with the characters. I really enjoyed the extended epilogue that followed the MCs for two more years so we know the HFN, truly becomes a HEA.

Audiobook Review:
Overall – 4
Performance – 4
Story – 4

Good mystery and sexy times!

This was kind of two stories in one… We have the romance between Eric and Jay and the mystery of who is killing people. When Eric is hired to provide security at the resort the Jay manages for his family, it doesn’t take long for them to fall for each other. The only problem is that Jay’s father insists that he can’t be gay and has provided him with a fake girlfriend.

This was a bit different from other paranormal books I’ve read. Someone or something is killing people and evidence that Eric has gathered points to it having been going on for years. This part of the mystery wasn’t really addressed but, in the end, I guess it didn’t really matter.

I didn’t guess who the killer was until nearly the end of the story so that was well done. There were some fairly gruesome scenes in this book and I’m not sure which would have been better – to listen to them being described as I did or to read them. Either way I think they might be a bit difficult for some readers to experience.

As far as I know, this is the first audiobook I’ve listened to that Samuel Mann and I think he did a good job narrating this story. Overall, I enjoyed listening to this book and would listen to more books performed by Samuel Mann and/or written by Elizabeth Noble.

A copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request and my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author or narrator.

Gay, single and in his early 20s, Jay is a competent manager of his family’s resort in Montana. Unfortunately, Jay’s father is a conservative senator who threatens and demands that Jay pretend to be engaged to a woman he hardly knows and keep his sexuality in the closet. Worryingly, a series of local murders are jeopardising the resort’s livelihood and Jay’s father hires seasoned ex-cop Eric as a security consultant, much to Jay’s frustration. But Eric is exactly the person Jay needs; he’s the perfect dom for Jay’s submissiveness and he gives good, reliable advice and safety tips. However, Jay isn’t always good at following the advice and his mistakes might just prove fatal.

I liked the premise of this supernatural thriller / age-gap romance a lot and I enjoyed the author’s writing style. I liked the spicy chemistry but I’m not a huge fan of instalove and this seemed even more rushed than most—I found it hard to be convinced that Jay and Eric could have developed such strong feelings within a few days. But the most unconvincing thing was Jay’s continued lack of self-preservation: for someone who had complied with his father’s unreasonable demands for years, Jay just didn’t seem to want to comply with Eric’s incredibly sensible advice. It was a bit infuriating to watch! I also think the author missed a lot of dramatic opportunities by keeping Jay’s fiancée so low profile. Having said all that, it was a very entertaining, steamy, and absorbing story. 🎧 Voice actor Samuel Mann did a competent job of the audio narration.

Intriguing mix of BDSM an paranormal mystery (an audio review)

I admit, this book had me curious. Paranormal? Okay, interesting. BDSM? Sign me up!

I’ll also admit I enjoyed the execution of this book. I could relate to Jay as someone who wants to please his family, but knows he never will. He can’t not be gay. It’s who he is. But he also can’t have a boyfriend, so he hooks up with random guys. Eric is one of those guys. When that hook-up leads to the ‘OMG, you’re working with me’ scenario, I got my chuckle. That chuckle soon dissipated as the brutality of the murders, described in detail, began to emerge. Of course, based on his age and other factors, Jay’s a potential target.

Jay’s busy maintaining the façade of being engaged to a woman while enjoying submitting to Eric in the bedroom. For the first time in his life, he feels cherished. Loved. Cared for. This is all new to him. Eric wants to protect Jay and solve the gruesome murders. This should be old hat to him, but things are not what they seem.

When family dynamics, politics, and murder collide, clearly something had to give and I loved that this book kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.

Samuel Mann is a new narrator for me and I thought he did a good job. I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to listen to something of his again. A good solid listen.

Jay is being forced to hide that he's gay and to marry a girl by his father, a Senator, when he meets Eric, who embodies everything Jay has ever wanted in a man, a caring, trained dom, and who has been hired as Jay's bodyguard when a killer seems to be targeting people staying or working near the inn Jay manages.

I really liked Eric, he was very supportive of Jay in everything he wanted or needed, even when Eric wasn't exactly in agreement with it. I liked Jay, too, but I hated his reticence to stand up to his father to his own detriment. I really liked Eric and Jay together, they had great chemistry and their D/s dynamics worked well for them in almost all aspects of their relationship.

I loved Jay's mom, she was amazing! His father, though, was a poor excuse for a human being and got what he deserved.

The mystery aspect of the story was handled very well, I didn't guess who the killer was until it was pointed out to me. Overall, a very good read that I have no trouble recommending if you enjoy D/s romances with some mystery, gore and violence.

Samuel Mann is a new to me narrator, but he did a great job with this book. He brought Jay and Eric to life for me and injected the necessary emotions into the different scenes, be it the romantic, D/s, or violent ones. Definitely will be checking out more of his work.

An amazing combination of different elements - bdsm, mistery, paranormal - across a very sweet romance. Impossible not to fall in love with Eric.

Thoughts while reading:
Loving it. The mistery is intriguing, and for once I'm reading a crime where the MCs are not cocky, unfaithful. They are amazing, especially Eric. I easily fall in love with well written Doms. The sex scenes are long, detailed, and very intense. Even their first meeting was extremely sexy, without sex yet. The looks, the words, the touches. The sexual tension was incredibly high.

I liked the resolution of the mistery. I hated Jay's father, in a particular chapter I was so angry at him, and so angry that Jay wouldn't want to make him pay. Not angry at Jay but for him.

The way Eric confronted Jay's father was glorious.

***

Several times I tried reading MM romantic suspense/ mistery and while the mistery or crime part was OK, the romance was awful. The Mcs were cocky, unfaithful, selfish.

I appreciated this book a lot because finally, I could read a MM mistery/crime and felt safe because the romance was adorable too and the two MCs were really in love and serious. Eric was a hero and a real man.

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(⭐️) 4,5
Performance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This time both the author and the narrator were new to me.
I liked the writing style because I was in the story pretty quickly.
Jay goes out, far away from home because of his homophobic father and happens to meet Eric. The two are pretty hot together.
All the more surprise that Eric is the new head of security at Jay's family's resort to solve the murders.
Besides the attraction of Jay and Eric and some BDSM there is a criminal case to solve.
The story is interesting and there is also an ancient being floating around that needs to be tracked down. There are interesting developments and surprising twists.
I listened through the audiobook in one go, it wasn't very long either. I would have liked a few more chapters and would have enjoyed more in-depth character developments.
The audiobook narrator was great, I enjoyed listening to his voice. He portrayed the emotions well and I really liked his voice for Jay.

Jay and Erik had me hooked in the first chapter. They were both interesting people I could see as friends. It was pretty inevitable they would end up in the same place after the initial hookup, and their personal relationship quickly grew while Jay was drawn into Erik’s work world at the resort. The murders were particularly gruesome, and the murderer was unexpected (though would have been interesting with more of a background story there, but not necessary). There were lots of chances for inferences and predictions, and the story moved along smoothly, tho with some unexpected things also, and an increased heart rate at times. Lots of hot BDSM scenes, interesting supporting characters, good descriptions of the area, and some action. Not a long read but an enjoyable and satisfying one.

Best Read EVER!

I happened upon this book because I loved the cover and WOW!!! This was my first Noble book and I cannot wait to read more works. I was enthralled from the very beginning and could not put this down. Eric and Jay’s story was off to an amusing start and the mystery behind serial killings was a wonderful plot. I loved the fact that it had somewhat of a paranormal experience within the story but not the typical werewolf or vampire deal that many authors lean towards. And the heated passion between the two characters was very fluid and no angst with the two characters as they navigated a working relationship. I don’t want to give anything away but this storyline will have you on the edge continuously throughout and I loved the closure to it all!!! I’m a new fan and again cannot wait to read more of Elizabeth Noble’s books….pick this one up NOW!!!

Review of the audiobook: This book hit so many nails on the head for me. First, I'm a huge fan of romances where one character has a super controlling parent forcing them to stay in the closet and it's even better when that's complicated by political reasons as it is here. That means the other MC has to be a dominant personality (in this case literally) who helps them find the inner strength to break free and be themselves. Jay and Eric are perfect characters for this storyline. The addition of a serial killer mystery with hints of the paranormal was icing on the cake, especially as it fit perfectly into the romance plot with both working together. Samuel Mann is a new narrator for me but he did a fantastic job here with delineating characters and handling the emotions and suspense without ever going over the top. I really look forward to hearing more of his work.

Hi Y’all! Come a cold drink while I tell you about this book I just read.
The title is For the Long Run by Elizabeth Nobel.
The cover is ok though headless people aren’t my favorite. Then I read the blurb and it really got my interest because I love a good murder suspense.

The story is a romantic suspense, with PNR elements.
There are a lot of twists.
Was there something I didn’t like? It’s not that I didn’t like it just I didn’t see why the bdsm was necessary with all the other things going on. Like the murders, the family issues and the romance.

I did like the ending. It was HEA and I found it very satisfying.
How hot was the book? Super hot!
If you like BDSM, Ds relationship, instalove, paranormal suspense you will love this.
I listened in audio and really enjoyed it.
I loved Jay’s kinda growly voice, the pacing is good . I highly recommend it!

I’m reviewing the audio edition. Jay is the manager of his family’s resort when needing a night out and runs across Eric. They have this instant attraction. Things go a little further but in the morning each go their own way.
Eric is hired as head of security for the resort without Jay knowing it. Imagine the surprise when they each find out. Neither expected to see the other again. Eric is suppose to be finding out what is going on with the men’s bodies found in the forest on the grounds of the resort. Also Jay and Eric develop a deeper relationship and they also get to try and deal with Jay’s homophobic father. I feel the story is good but it might have been better if it had been longer and got more into the development of the characters and the mystery. I liked the narration by Samuel Mann. He really brought the characters to life.

I've had the pleasure of reading Elizabeth Noble's Pain and Pleasure and absolutely loved it. I was sad that this book didn't hit the high expectations I had from the other series, but it was still quite enjoyable. I liked that this author attempted more of mystery and suspense themes in this book instead of just smut and BDSM, but I just felt like something was lacking somehow to make this 10/10 fantastic. I mean, I loved the characters, Jay and Eric, I enjoy her writing style, and liked the general storyline of this book. But there was just still something missing to make this one of my favorites. I would still recommend this book, considering how much. I enjoyed this book and the author.

I've stumbled upon a truly captivating tale that's got a bit of everything - MM romance, BDSM, a dash of murder mystery, some political intrigue, and even a sprinkle of the paranormal. It kicks off as a sweet love story (with some seriously spicy domination scenes), but oh boy, it evolves into something way more fascinating. Brace yourselves for an otherworldly twist - the book's last quarter is a real brain twister! Took me a moment to sync with the narration as the emotions portrayed didn't always hit the right note with certain moments in the book.

Thank you to Gay Book Promotions for the copy for my honest review.

Jay, the son of a homophobic senator, manages a Hunting Lodge and Estate for his parents. He also has a fake girlfriend, and dead bodies appearing all over the place.
Enter Eric, an ex-cop and a Dom - who Jay meets in a motel and spends a night with him! So, Eric begins an investigation into the bodies, as well as a relationship with Jay.
There's a silly bit of PNR stuff inserted into the story (although it was good enough of a mystery to do without this!) and it was fairly obvious (IMO) who the guilty person was.
Not bad at all.

For the Long Run

Interesting read
This book does have some BDSM scenes, not overly described that might turn off someone not in that lifestyle. The homophobic father I wanted to reach through the book and shake! Everyone deserves to be accepted for who they are! I was rooting for Eric and Jay throughout the book. The drama and mystery had me turning the pages.

A thoroughly enjoyable read that I felt left too much out once I reached the end. I loved the relationship dynamics, but I felt cheated of the "big moment" at the end. And I was intrigued by the supernatural/monster element that left gaping questions in the wake of the immediate crisis being solved. Perhaps these characters will return for another adventure? I'd certainly be willing to visit them again.
