Hobson Hills Omegas #8

Convincing the Alpha

Rate this book
Story takes place in the Omegaverse. Hobson Hills Omegas: Book Eight

Injured in the army over three years ago, Noah Wilson walked away with his life, but lost his hearing. It's taken him years and the support of his family and friends to adapt to a new normal. While he's content with his life, his family keeps hoping he'll settle down with a nice omega or maybe just, you know, leave his ranch occasionally. Personally, he just wants to park his introverted butt at home and spend time with his horses.

After seeing so many of his friends and family fall in love and settle down, Noah starts to think maybe having someone might be worth the trouble of dating. Maybe.

As a former Marine, Zed Ames is an alpha that needs to take care of his loved ones. He practically raised his younger brother and dotes on his nieces. He even has a newly discovered half brother to get to know. What he doesn’t have is someone of his own to care for and adore. As his brothers keep telling him, he’s a big, old nuturer and needs a sweet omega to take care of. Whether he likes it or not.

The longer he's in Hobson Hills, the more he thinks maybe they're right. At least partly. When Zed meets Noah, he realizes that he doesn't need an omega, alpha, beta, or anyone else. What he needs is Noah, the man that fits perfectly with him. Now, Zed just needs to convince the other alpha that despite their pasts, self-doubts, and meddlesome families, they belong together.

Author's Note: Around 46,000 words. This is a m/m friends to lovers romance with no angst and no cheating, just a HEA. While the story takes place in the omegaverse, both main characters are alphas. There is still plenty of mpreg included in the story through the secondary characters. 18+ readers only, please. It is the eighth book in the series and should be read after book 7, The Alpha's Christmas Wish.

I have been self-publishing since October 2018. My books are extremely light and fluffy m/m romance with mpreg, and while they span a few subgenres of romance, they have similar themes of found family and love at first sight. Besides writing, I enjoy reading everything I can get my hands on, especially m/m romance. My personal favorites are mpreg, sci-fi, fantasy, and paranormal.

DNF at 50%

Disclaimer: this is the first book in the series that I've read. That being said, as is terribly predictable, that matters very little with books like these: you get like 800 different characters, whose stories were already told, and not knowing who they are makes no difference to the current story.
See, the thing about omegaverse series with >3 books is all alphas and omegas have the exact same cookie cutter personality, so their relationship dynamic is exactly the same. Even in this book where the MCs are two alphas, Noah is written with decidedly omega-like nuances. I don't know why I keep hoping for better-written omegaverse books. :/

DNF - 50%

The sheer abundance of cheese and fluff in this was nauseating.

I had such high hopes going into this. Was craving an Alpha-Alpha story, which are hard to come by, so this had me eager.

…………oh the disappointment.

First of all, this is an Alpha-Alpha story in terms only.

Neither exhibit typical Alpha characteristics you expect and see in most settings. Im convinced the only reason the author uses the omega-verse troupe is so the men can have children. Because none of the expected dichotomies and characteristics are used at all…….Not. At. All. As a reader, you can’t even distinguish their type unless it’s explicitly stated.

Noah is quite frail.

Yes he’s had some shit happen to him, but his level of frailty makes it hard to even associate alpha traits with him. Zed isn’t that much better either. The only reason im associating Alpha to him is because somebody has to be. I’ve read stories with omegas who have more alpha traits than these two (than even some of the other alpha characters in this series, apparently).

I hated every time Zed referred to Noah as the ‘younger alpha’, cause….Bitch!! you seem the same age! And why you gotta keep repeating it!?! We got it the first 20 times!

The overwhelming amount of unnecessary fluff and rushed development didn’t help either. Their relationship did not feel authentic at all. One second, literally, they’re strangers, then they are friends, then they’re both heavy crushing on each other, then they’re a couple. The flow was choppy as hell.

I might have liked this in my earlier years of reading, but now i need more mature structure and dialogue. This read like a young adult novel and with a lot of immaturity. Everything was pretty superficial, even these ‘serious’ family events occurring throughout.

————————

P.S I don’t usually get this judgy with my reviews, because to each their own, but i didn’t care for the unfairly high rating this has overall. It’s deceptive to the unsuspecting folks.

This was book 8 in the "Hobson Hills Omegas " series. This was one of my favorite books in this series. Alpha Noah Wilson has been through a lot he is Elijah's little brother who they rescued from a mental hospital that his parents put him in after he lost his hearing after being deployed. Alpha Zed Ames has also been through a lot he came to Hobson Hills after getting out of the Marines to meet his brother he didn't know he had Justin turns out his father had two families at the same time that he left. Zed is currently working with Abel at his brewery when he gets roped into adopting three mini horses The Sandwich Crew he meets Noah who has agreed to house them on his horse farm. These two become friends although they are attracted to each other. This was a good read Zed begin learning ASL so he could talk to Noah more. When the family finds out Noah is ready to date they begun fixing him up with Omegas and Zed's brothers begin doing the same for him they end up going on a double date but end up having more fun with each other. Noah thinks that Zed wouldn't want him. When his father begins demanding money again Zed steps up to help protect Noah. These two begin dating and living together and at a party Zed gets a surprise turns out he has three more siblings. I loved this family and this book. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I haven't read other books than book 1 in this series because I didn't think it was good enough to continue reading, but I got curious about Noah's story so after a long break I thought why not, maybe the author had grown as a writer? Not so much, unfortunately.
Well, if some of my comments make little sense it might be because it has been mentioned in the other books, if that's the case then I apologise.

Oh, my god so much fluff in this book... There were so many scenes I had to drag myself through because it was just filler.
The golden rule is, if you can take a scene out of a book, without ruining the pace or narrative, it should not be in there at all. And there was a lot of that in it... normally it takes me 2-3 days to read a book in this length, but it took me fucking 6 days because it was so fucking boring. I had so much faith in Noah and loved him in the first story, but there was no character development in it at all!

It felt like December in this book was extra long. I didn't count, but I'm pretty sure that there were too many weeks and days mentioned before it became Christmas.

A little synonym check would have had helped the books readability a lot.
Smile/smiled/smiling is used 151 times...
Zed's name is mentioned fucking 875 times through the entire book.. it was so often I registered it while I read. The book is 173 pages long, that means he is mentioned 5 times per page on average... and I haven't counted the times Noah is only saying Z to Zed. And Noah is mentioned 1164 times... you really have to use another synonym or rewrite your sentence so you don't have to use their names so often. Why haven't the beta readers or editor mentioned this to the author 🤔

Not very creative with the naming of the horses, the three ponies Peanut, Butter and Jelly were both sweet and funny names and put them together as The sandwich club was a nice touch, but Carrot, Stinkburg, Snickerdoodle?? But it's just my opinion.

In the first chapter the horse Carrot was a Paint horse, in chapter 3 he was a Pinto. Maybe it was just a memory mistake from the author but so short in the book it's a little... If that's the case, maybe writing it down to remember later would be a good idea. I know pinto is just a color and not a race, but why not just stick with paint?

(Zed gave him an innocent look and batted his eyes. ) batted his eyes? What is he? A girl?

Good spoiler in the family tree in the beginning of the book where you can see "unborn child" marked on Elijah, but its not until about 30 % in the book we find out. Though I can't say if it's mentioned in another book I haven't read.

The men are flushing and blushing way too much. Men in real life don't really do that. I think it's sweet when an omega flush, but that's because they are way more delicate and feminine because of their extra gender. Again, just my opinion.

Wait... how does Noah's father even know he got the farm and horses and where it is? When I can tell Noah hasn't talked to him since he got in jail. And nobody else seems to want to talk to the idiot.

And why can't they determine if people are omega or alpha? Normally in REAL omegaverse you can smell it because of the pheromones omegas secrete. But this is an mpreg and not omegaverse, because those rules haven't been writen into the story, so how can they determine what they are without DNA testing?

Why can half of the town suddenly ASL? I understand that the family can. But if Noah is fine with speechreading, the whole town shouldn't necessarily learn ASL.
(And Spoiler:
Why would Seth suddenly also know a little ASL because a friend is deaf. Are half of the people in that universe deaf?)

Mary sounds like she's 5 or younger. The way she speaks and the way its described when Noah hugs her and spins her around. Plus the way Justin can lure her with him when he says, Bea has new crayons or something. My daugther wouldn't think that would be tempting.

(Spoiler)
The talk about Noah topping Zed threw me off.. It sounds like Zed is a huge man, so him being a bottom with Noah who sounds so small and delicate, which the cover can confirm, nooo hell noooo... that picture in my head looks wrong. Just because they are both alphas they can still decide one of them is the primary bottom if they want to.
AND THEN... they actually did it!! Oh my fucking god... I paced through the living room while repeating "no, no, no..." My husband laughed when I told him why 🙄 I had to convince myself that I had to finish it, now that so little was left of the book. But well... Zed sounded like he liked it so... whatever floats your boat. It was definitely not a picture I liked in my head. Maybe I just read too many yaoi mangas with small cute uke's so I couldn't imagine anything else.

Read this book if you are looking for a feel-good romance.

This is an omegaverse book so you can expect some gender norms to be thrown out. However, this book has two alphas falling in love.

Noah (A) was raised by selfish parents who had him illegally committed when he lost his hearing in the military so they could get his pension. His older brother, Elijah, and he had thought they were finished with their parents until their father stepped back in Noah’s life. After spending the last few years adjusting to being deaf and starting an equine therapy center, Noah was ready to find his omega. Instead, he found his alpha. Zed (A) moved to Hobson Hills to be closer to his brother and half-brother. Becoming friends with Noah was easy, convincing Noah that they should be together was not.

This book is rated 4 stars. You are moved quickly from one point in the story to another. There are happy and fast solutions to all the problems that tend to arise.

Side Note: The side characters you are introduced to in this book have, or may in the future get, a book of their own. Every character is unique and the individual books in this series reflect this.

Personal Note:
I was happy to see that Elijah and Noah’s parents are finally dealt with more permanently. Their greed and selfishness is seen too often in real life and it was great to see the brothers free of them.

THIS WAS EVERYTHING. I love that we got to visit Hobson Hills again and see what the characters from the other books were up to. And we got to see how Noah and Zed got together. Now we got the answer on who was the person that Noah seems to be in a relationship with. I love how the author seem to expand her horizon when it comes to writing. I know she said that it's gonna be her first time writing a threesome (for the third book in Silver Isles), and now this is the first time she ventured into two Alphas together. But everything she writes just pull you in and can't help but to love it. Each of her books became a comfort read for me, and this one is no different. Expect to see hilarious moments in this book. Lots of shenanigans, emotional moments, shitty parents moments and some surprise you wouldn't want to miss. Now I can't help but to be curious on how Sheriff Mckenzie's story is going to play and who is gonna be his love interest. I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Fiendish Families

I've read and even re-read so many books sometimes I lose track of the release of a new book is a series I'd previously been reading or I'm currently reading a completed series - my favourites then I don't have to wait for the next book to come out they are all already available.

But this was a long awaited next book in the Hobson Hills series. It was wonderfully Noah's story. Once again the various family trees in the beginning saved him with all the marriages, reunited siblings, adopted youth / adults, and of course the Wilson clan. The strong kinship of brothers / siblings no matter who raised them, then factor in the the huge loving, welcoming, intimidating Wilson family.

How you start and who your family was, is not an indicator of how your fabulous you will become despite what they did to you. Finding the perfect for you man, who unconditionally accepts you, and tics all your boxes. A man who eagerly shares his best with you and will fight to protect you, until you accept that he's the real deal.

I’ve been on hunt for omegaverse-based romance with alpha/alpha pairing that has well-written angsty clash of dominance and instinct.

This book has two MCs who are indeed alphas BUT there was no alpha-like vibe. Their designation made no difference whatsoever, neither did omega one (it’s just to have mpreg), all males were almost the same normal/regular kinda guys who fall in love and want a family.

Tbh neither Noah nor Zed had typical alpha traits, in fact Noah was portrayed more omega-like: soft, frail and small. Zed was a bit more assertive but again he didn’t give me that primal alpha energy. The implied big size difference also didn’t work for me somehow.

The story has lots of side characters (from previous books) so as I read it as standalone, I was overwhelmed with names. Romance was fluffy sweet, low angst, spice came up fast. Noah’s corny pickup lines were comedic.

In the end I dnf and skipped to end. This novel wasn’t what I’ve been looking for, not the intense alpha/alpha dynamics I crave.

I was pleasantly surprised by this. I haven't read many Omegaverse books, though I've read urban fantasy shifter books that have common Omegaverse elements. I was looking for a book from the subgenre for a reading challenge and I picked this one because it seemed to bend the "rules" a little bit. It was nice because this is not only MM, but both are "alphas," so there aren't the possessive and/or D/s aspects that I expect in an Omegaverse book. Rather, both the MCs were kind, hard-working, strong, generally emotionally intelligent men who have legitimate baggage to deal with, but who become friends, then lovers, then spouses. Sweet MM HEA for people looking for a fairly traditional monogamous-couple-who-has-kids story.

I was also surprised that one of the MCs is deaf, and that, though it wasn't dealt with in detail, was meaningful in portraying trauma and challenges that deaf people may experience, as well as how meaningful it is for people to learn to sign.

This one felt different from the others, so I'm glad I skipped ahead to read it. Maybe it was because it was two Alphas instead of an Alpha/Omega pairing? Also there was no instant pregnancy to contend with, which was nice. The conflict with Noah's father has been an ongoing issue since book one, so it was great to see that wrapped up. I felt like it actually flowed with the plot of the book and wasn't too out of control like the other books. We also get even more characters being introduced because we don't have enough already I guess. Overall, I think this has been my favorite and the best written one of the series so far. My only complaint is actually how the author chose to describe how one of the MCs made a grilled cheese sandwich with lettuce and tomato, which is completely wrong on so many levels.

Omegaverse story with 2 alphas

Noah is deaf, and has PTSD from his stay in a mental hospital. Zed probably has hyperactivity disorder. What they have in common is crap parents and dozens of friends. They're really good together.

If you've read other Hobson Hills books, you'll find plenty of old friends in this book. The tone is the same light angst with a little conflict to keep things interesting.

Zeb and Noah are the first 2 alpha romance I've read in an omegaverse that didn't throw an omega into the sandwich. The people are accepting of differences, so it isn't explored as a forbidden relationship, but Noah especially takes some convincing that the relationship is viable despite the fact they can't have kids--at least not the usual way.

DNF 60%

The pace is wrong unfortunately.
At the beginning it was really enjoyable. One of the main character is deaf and it was really well done. But, at times, I forgot about it because he can read lips so I always had to remind myself that he was deaf.
And Zed is cute but kind of empty. It looks like he doesn't have any depth.
That's why I kind of felt bored at one point because the drama felt over and the only thing preventing their relationship to bloom is the fact that one of the characters is really into his head and I didn't have the energy for this. I will maybe pick this up and finish it though maybe my opinion will change.

disappointing and unbelievable

I honestly can’t believe I read the same book as the other glowing reviews. This book was a huge letdown. The writing felt silly and forced, specially with the author trying to make the characters appear wholesome - it just came off as unnatural. The characters themselves felt flat and artificial, with no real depth or personality. It was frustrating to see so much telling rather than showing, leaving me detached from the story. The pacing and tone didn’t help either. This was my first book by this author and I likely won’t be reading another, it just wasn’t for me.

Least favorite of the series so far. I know they are all far fetched but the author was severely reaching with this one. How many tragic events have to happen for people to get kids. Kids are awesome and they wanted a family but having the parents die by murder/suicide is ridiculous especially when you write them as fairly adjusted and have the middle child start calling Noah dad. I get it, it’s part of the happy ending but with every book is more of the same. This series should’ve ended a few books ago.

I continue to love this series and the happy ever afters that comes to the town of Hobson Hills. Alphas Noah and Zed are no exception. This little clan of people keep bringing more and more in and love them all. I will be upset when this series is over.

Noah has had it hard, losing his hearing and then having very crappy parents. Zed, with his own Crappy Parents, has recently found his brother Justin in Hobson Hills. Another set of crappy parents and Zed finds more siblings. This is a beautiful story of what love should look like.

I really enjoy this series. I love all the characters and how loving they are with each other. I also like books that stray from the traditional Alpha/Omega pairing and explore Alpha/Alpha pairings. Especially one like in this book where there is absolutely no posturing for dominance between the two MCs. It was good to see Noah gain confidence throughout the story. I also enjoyed more of the Big Foot Hunting that continued from the previous installments. All in all, a highly enjoyable read.

The best life has to offer humor, family ( by birth or choice) and love for eternity - priceless!

Noah has endured a trauma no parent should hand down to a child. He lost his hearing due to an injury and he adjusting. Now family trying it to match make. Zed had a disaster of a parents support so he can understand that the past does not dictate your future. Humor, animals and surprises are twist & turn. A great story indeed! Alpha/Alpha ftw!

I absolutely love A/A pairings in omegaverse and I was so excited when this series had one. It was super cute and I enjoyed the story. Unlike some, there was no battle for dominance or power struggle between the alpha lovers. It was just an adorable love story of two nurturers who got to take care of each other. I'm also happy the subplot that started in Elijah's book got it's ending.

Very enjoyable read, just like the other books.

Great read

This was another great addition to this series. You just gotta love the Wilson's and all of their extended family. I've been waiting for Noah to find his love and Zed was wonderful with an extremely beautiful heart and warm soul. Both had issues with terrible parents, but they also had wonderfully loving siblings. I can't wait for the more from this series.

I loved it!

Convincing the Alpha is another great book in the Hobson Hills Omega series. I loved both Zed and Noah. And the antics from Noah and Zed's animals had me cracking up more than once. Loved the sandwich club and Captain Hoof. I read this book using the Kindle Unlimited program.

This entire series…

This entire series is a joyful confection. With every book, the cast of characters (including, always, the pets!) grows and accumulates; smart readers start taking notes early! The relationships are always sweet and fulfilling, all villains are vanquished, and all endings are happy. Also, there are children. Highly recommend it!

I’m so disappointed by this installment of the series. This book was very rushed, very choppy, and way to many grammatical errors. This could’ve been an amazing story of the author took their time to edit and proofread the story. I definitely do not recommend this installment in the series. It’s a shame because I’m a huge fan.

I love the fact that this explores a relationship that would be considered unconventional in the omegaverse. These two men are strong and yet are perfect for each other. I am so glad Noah got his story. I listened to the audio version and it was very well done.

So much cuteness

Can’t say enough about how great this series and really all of the series by this author are to me. Family is always at the heart of these books, both blood related and found family, plus a boatload of animals. I always leave this world with a smile on my face.

A whole series of books - lots of insta-lust, love and sex with sexy MC's and secondary characters who get their own story next, and so it goes throughout the series. Very entertaining and easy reading. Glad I planned to read them all, they were definitely best read one after the other in order.

OK, while there was a substantial amount of grammatical errors in this story... the fact that we keep hearing about Zed's "big/oversized" ears really drove me crazy because the model on the cover actually has slightly smaller than average ears... IMHO! *grin*
