Pandemics are nothing new in human history, but the selfless response of the earliest Christians to those events changed the world and how society addressed contagion and its care for others. That example also fueled the spread of the Gospel and the growth of the Christian community. In this easy-to-read and encouraging ebook, author Stephen Bullivant explores pandemics of the past both historically and sociologically, clearly relating how the Christian faith enabled its practitioners to confront these disasters with hope and love for others. He also explores the opportunities for evangelization that the corona virus is presenting today, reaffirming that God can work good even out of the most dire and deadly situations. Perhaps most important is the author's reminder that amidst the transitory nature of the human condition only God - and his love for his people - endures.

A short but easy read. The historical information on various pandemics was both interesting and useful in understanding the effects of today's virus.

Bishop Barron's Word on Fire produced this free ebook. It was short and very easy to read. It helped me to take the long view of this global pandemic. Plagues and come and gone before. The Church has stood. The author was writing it during Holy Week, and I really appreciated his thoughts and reflections on this difficult time. There wasn't really anything earth shattering here, but a lot of things to sit, ponder, and take to prayer.
