Everyone associates the name Ryker Winchester with money, power plays, negotiations…it's what I'm good at. In the boardroom, I get exactly what I want. In the bedroom, there's no difference.

I was wholly unprepared for Heather.

She’s a feisty single mom, challenging me in ways no woman ever has. I can’t get enough of her. The way she gives in to me is intoxicating, but I need more than hot nights and sexy dates.

When she introduces me to her daughter, I fall for that little girl hook, line and sinker. No one has ever played me for a fool like that kid can do with a single dimpled grin. I want to keep them both.

Heather’s been hurt before. She’s hanging by a thread and doesn’t trust easily, but I want more than just some fun. How can I show her that we can build something incredible together?

Sweet, sexy, swoony and drama-free romance.

This is the second book in Layla Hagen’s Very Irresistible Bachelors series, following on from You're The One, and continues the stories of the Winchester family.

Ryker Winchester is one of four incredibly close siblings (their cousin, Hunter, was the hero of book #1). He is a successful and wealthy businessman who also performs as a singer in a bar, and it’s while playing one night that he meets Heather, a single mother who is about to bring him to his knees.

Heather has just been brutally dumped by her boyfriend of two years. But her recent heartbreak doesn’t stop her from falling hard and fast for Ryker. He makes his attraction clear, and she’s feeling exactly the same so there is no time wasted as she shakes off her last relationship and dives into a new one.

It’s no angst, no drama, just two people falling for each other and following their hearts (and their libidos) into a sweet, functional and super steamy romance. Ryker is a sexy, sweet-hearted alpha who likes to take control and who doesn’t take no for an answer, and Heather is more than happy to go with the flow and follow his lead. It’s all very easy, natural, honest and swoony.

“I like spending time with you more than anything else. No matter what we do, I always think about you. You’re always on my mind.”
“Does that scare you?”
“No. Because I know I’m exactly where I need to be.”

Making it extra sweet is Heather’s daughter, Avery, who is absolutely adorable, and who Ryker falls for hook, line and sinker.

“I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that little girl feels safe around me. Make sure she’s happy. And then we’ll take it from there.”

It’s really cute, but does feel a bit cheesy. Ryker is SO perfect, their relationship is SO perfect, and while I usually love a functional romance, I found this book to be a bit dull. I enjoyed seeing them come together, and I liked the fact that there was no drama for the sake of drama, but it felt like it was missing something. I’m not sure what, just that feeling that I get when I truly love a story wasn’t there.

We get the opportunity to get up close and personal with the rest of the Winchester clan and experience their close dynamic, and each of the siblings will get own their stories in the series.

It’s a cute read, and I liked it.

3 stars.

Just One Kiss
Very Irresistible Bachelors #2
Layla Hagen
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I cannot explain in words how much Layla’s stories resonates with me. I don’t know the reason but her characters break into my heart and stay there. This new series is as amazing as the Bennett & Connor families. Meeting the New York bachelors has been so much fun, and already I can’t wait for book 3. Hunter and now, Ryker are my irresistible men of 2020. In the light of our crazy world right now, it’s been a pleasant break in reality.

Ryker Winchester is famous for his money and family run gala’s, but his choice to stay single makes him more famous for the female members of the world. He’s a bit of a player, but he has no interest in forebears.. He had no time for that. He’s a very competent Venture Capitalist, and sexy as sin in a suit! That is until he winess’ a fight between and man and woman in the bar he casually plays guitar at. Life as Ryker knows it is about to change forever!

Single mum Heather and her young daughter, Avery, has made a move in with her boyfriend in a loft in New York, but in one night her whole world comes crashing down when said boyfriend says he’s leaving her… leaving her with an expensive loft she rents and a single pay check. But when a stranger steps in to defend her. This man is sexy Ryker Winchester.

He knew at first sight something about Heather took his breath away, he wants to know more about her… and he gets that opportunity, but her shocking outburst of a daughter changes everything. He wasn’t prepared for a fire cracker single mum, but his knees come crashing down by sweetheart Avery, a child with so much heartbreak but a smile to brighten any day. Ryker wants them both to be his but Heather and Avery come with baggage that will take time to open and share, but add in Ryker family and it’s all in for Heather. She’s taken back by their love to her and Avery. It was great to see Ryker’s bro’s and sisters, step in as well as Hunter and Josie. This was the perfect read.

Just One Kiss is the second book in the Very Irresistible Bachelors series by Layla Hagen. The main characters are Ryker and Heather.

Lately, I have been stuck in a book funk and I cannot enjoy most of the books I read. This one was the exception though. I had plenty of fun reading it. Layla Hagen is one of the few authors whose books are guaranteed to be good. I needed a story where the main characters are dedicated to each other and there is no drama for the shake of drama. Heather's daughter is an adorable addition to the story.

To be completely honest, I wouldn't have minded some conflict either between Ryker and Heather or with either character and someone else. Nothing very hurtful though.

The writing style is similar to the author's other books and I mean that in the best possible way. The characters (main and secondary) were great and I loved them. I never doubted the love between Heather and Ryker and I loved seeing Ryker trying to win over Heather's daughter and been unable to say no to her. We got plenty of scenes with the daughter and Ryker which was very satisfactorily.

Ryker Winchester (LOOOVE the last name!) is a playboy. A successful Wall Street venture capitalist. A family man who loves his siblings. He is not a man who craves commitment and a relationship, until a sweetheart stumbles into his life and he's smitten. Can he show Heather and her adorable little girl how good the 3 of them could be if Heather allowed him in?

I adored this very sweet, very sexy story. Ryker and Heather are a lethal combination of sweet, steamy and adorable, especially because her precocious daughter, Avery, is part of the package. I'm seeing another awesome family series in the works if this one is any indication.

I tried, God how I tried but I I couldn’t. It failed miserably. I JUST COULD NOT CONTINUE LISTENING THIS TO BOOK, despite it was narrated by one of my fav duo. The h was THAT bad……
When H first see h she was being dumped publicly ( in a bar) by her boyfriend of two years out of the blue. It was very unexpected. She is a single mom and now has to figure out how to pay for the new apartment she’s just moved in with her kid. BTW ex dumped her because he was not interested in her kid and didn’t want a readymade family. So she promises herself she’ll not be that same stupid woman again.
The next thing we know, a week later she is meeting H in the same bar, she had valid reason ( to pay for repair but her ACTIONS AND THOUGHTS PISSED ME THE FUCK OFF. After all the talk to herself, she’s not only smiling at a complete stranger but she’s also swooning, shivering( the good kind), her nipples are erect, she’s THAT attracted to him. Then after going home she flirts with him on phone and keeps thinking about him.
This is not a one time thing. It keeps on happening. She literally acted like a bitch in heated who needed to be fucked. Pardon me crudeness but that’s how she behaved and I am not saying this to be a bitch to her.
After their second meeting I said, fuck this shit and gave up. I thought she would be a fierce momma who’d protect her child at all cost but she came off as a selfish woman who wanted to be fucked.
What if H was a bastard and didn’t want a kid or something like that. She would have broken her child kid AGAIN. She was 7 years old and kid’s at that age understand everything ( believe me I have one), and at this tender age they are very sensitive.
What if after few days/ month or so, H walked away from them, it’ll destroy the girl’s heart because he’d be the third man to reject her, first her father, the ex, next H.
She couldn’t keep her a secret from H and eventually they’d meet but our selfish h doesn’t care about any such thing.
Though Layla Hagen is one my favorite writer and it was narrated by one of my favorite duos, I just couldn’t continue listening. Hated the selfish h

I am always excited to read Layla’s latest instalment of the families she writes about as you are guaranteed a fun and sexy read. This is Ryker Winchester’s story from the Very Irresistible Bachelors series, and it did not disappoint.

Ryker is a very successful Wall Street Businessman by day and to escape the stress of the day he plays guitar at his local bar at night. This is where he meets the feisty and struggling single mother Heather who is ceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend. When Ryker comes to her aid and deals with the ex-boyfriend Heather disappears and is upset because she has no help now with the hefty rent, she is committed to pay. When the two meet again, sparks fly between the two of them and their attraction to one another was strong. Watching Ryker, who is known as the “Flirt” fall in love and come to her rescue was so heartfelt and the kindness he bestowed on Heather’s daughter Avery adorable. It was wonderful to catch up with the rest of the Winchester family and see how they unite to support one another.

This was a wonderful good feel love story that is perfect to escape into during these trying times we are experiencing.

An ARC was provided, and all opinions are my own.

Move over humor because the heart is cutting in. For every teardrop that threatens to fall there is a smile waiting to break though. Hagen keeps getting better with each story she writes. Heather is a dreamer with everything to lose. Ryder is a cynic with everything to gain. Just One Kiss strums a beautiful melody in a less than perfect chord. Out of tune, becomes unforgettable when emotions are allowed to show the way.

Well her we go again lot of romance and a lot of drama, but when you let Layla Hagen put it together for you, it will pull at your heart strings. Ryker was the wall street mogul. Ryker is one off four of the Winchester family, they include Cole, Tess and Skye, then their is cousin Hunter with wife Josie. Heather is single mother to Avery. Heather has just been told by her then boyfriend that he will not be moving in with her and Avery and thereby leaving her in the lurch with her rent. She and Avery had just moved into a new apartment in New York, which they thought he was going to move in with her. At this point Ryker hears how this douche bag of a ex boyfriend was talking to Heather and he asks him to apologize. Every the gentleman, Ryker, trying to defend the lady's honor. Ryker was in the bar where the guy was breaking up with Heather, Northern Lights was the bar where Ryker played with other guys sessions of his guitar. When Ryker looks around to see if she is okay, she had left. She was no doubt embarrassed by how her ex had spoke to her. She left to go home to her daughter Avery. They had rented an apartment and had already painted and fixed up her bedroom. Heather was a writer and she had to figure out if she could get an advancement or her bonus money early so she could keep the apartment. Heather felt bad for Ryker, she didn't know his name yet, because in the process of defending her his guitar was doused in the flying drinks and they got in his case where is guitar was. Heather finds out when Ryker is going to play again so she can meet him and let him know she will pay for getting guitar fixed. They meet at Northern Lights where he is getting ready to play a set and she is in the audience waiting for him to finish so she can talk to him. One thing leads to another they are attracted and the story goes from there. Heather and Avery are even invited to one of the Galas the Winchesters were having. Avery falls for Ryker, who wouldn't he was gorgeous, sweet and giving. I loved this story but since I am a Layla Hagen fan and have all her books that she is written about families, the Bennetts, the Connors their cousins, and now the Winchesters. There are others thrown in that are novellas but I love her stories. They are entertaining, they have drama and they read easily. You will love this story, it is definitely good reading. I highly recommend this book. Can't wait for Cole's story.

Ok….So I think Ryker Winchester is my favorite of this family so far. I absolutely LOVED him!!!

I don’t know what it is, but when I pick up a Layla Hagen book, I just know it is the escape from reality I need. Her books are an easy, low drama read, that you just get sucked into. They always make me relax and I end her books with a HUGE smile on my face.

Just One Kiss was no exception to this. This is the second book in this series by Layla Hagen. It is a standalone novel but with Layla’s family saga series, I always recommend reading them in order. I think you will enjoy the series that much more. This book is told in Dual POV. I thought the flow and pace of the story worked well for these characters story.

I truly enjoyed this book. It is a fun, flirty, sexy and low drama romance between a handsome professional man and a single mom who is determined to make a great life for her and her daughter. I would definitely recommend this book to all romance readers who love a single parent story. Avery was an adorable 7 year old that will completely melt your heart, just like she did to Ryker ;)

I loved seeing all the other siblings in this book. It was nice getting to know Cole, Skye and Tess better. I look forward to reading their stories in the future.

If you are a fan of Layla’s books or she is a new author to you, Pick up this series and get lost in her world of romance. You won’t be sorry. Her books are the perfect break from reality a reader needs. Trust me, once you read a Layla Hagen book you will be hooked and will want to read all her books!!!!

5 star review of Just One Kiss (Very Irresistible Bachelors #2) Layla Hagen

Layla Hagen is a relatively new author to me and why that is I have absolutely no idea. This is the second book in her latest series and can be read as a stand alone although when time permits I will be looking at reading book one in the series.

The writing was strong and the characters were easy to relate to and I found myself totally invested in the story that Ms. Hagen wove from the first to the last chapter.

Ryker Winchester is a man who is used to wielding authority and power. The woman who is about to pull the rug right out from under him is Heather, a single mum with an adorable little girl, Avery.

This is a book that left me with a smile on my face, it was also steamy and passionate. Ryker ticked the boxes for me, hot as sin and an alpha who set my heart racing. I loved Heather, she is sassy and feisty and not at all afraid to stand up to Ryker whilst Avery, was such a little cutie that she almost stole the book right from under them.

Heather has been badly hurt before and does not give her trust easily, particularly since she will do whatever it takes to ensure Avery is protected.

I loved how the relationship between Ryker and Heather developed until it becomes impossible to resist and builds into a passionate and explosive love; I also enjoyed the banter between them which only added to my enjoyment. The relationship that Ryker built with Avery was swoon worthy and just about melted my heart.

All in all this was one of those books that gave me all the feels, a little gem that ticked the boxes for me.

For this being my first time reading a Layla Hagen book, it was quite enjoyable. This is in fact the second book in her recent series, but can be read as a standalone.

Just when Heather thinks she’s about to enter a new chapter in her life, it all comes crashing down. She’s been hurt before and now with this added hurt it’s only added in her not being able to trust easily. Heather’s main priority is to care for her daughter, Avery and making sure she’s protected. She never expected the likes of Ryker, and boy what a surprise she was in for.

Ryker is used to wielding power and authority. He’s a successful Venture Capitalist and very good at his job. He has no time for a relationship, but he prefers it that way, since he likes being single. He never saw Heather coming, but now that she’s in his sight he can’t help but be taken by her and same goes for her daughter.

I loved the relationship between Ryker and Heather. I liked how it developed until it became impossible for them to resist each other. I also loved their banter. The relationship that Ryker built with Avery was so sweet it had me swooning and melted my heart. These three were just a joy.

Just One Kiss brought the feels. A sweet and enjoyable read from start to finish.

Ryker is very successful in his demanding career with investments, but his softer side emerges when he plays the guitar. During one of his performances Ryker intervened in an altercation between Heather and her soon to be ex-boyfriend when he tells her the plans they made to move in together are no longer happening and she is left renting a home that will cause a financial strain on her and her daughter.

Heather is still feeling the betrayal of finding out that her ex isn’t the man she thought he was, but she is more concerned about her seven year old daughter Avery. She appreciates Ryker stepping in so she arranged to see him again to thank him and apologize she thought it would be the end, but Ryker is determined that it will be their beginning.

Ryker knows that Heather has been hurt in the past and is willing to be patient and show her that he is a man she can trust with both her and Avery’s heart while Heather tries to resist but seeing how he is with her daughter he starts to break down her walls. This is a sweet and sexy story about love and family and although they had their obstacles there is no doubt they are meant to be together.

This is my first Layla Hagen read and after reading Just One Kiss, I will be sure to check more of Layla’s work! This a fantastically fun, flirty and heartfelt story that will leave your heart full and a big smile on your face. A thoroughly enjoyable sweet and enjoyable read from start to finish.

This is a book that left me with smiling throughout. Strong writing and wonderful characters, I found myself totally invested in the story that Layla Hagen wove from the first to the last chapter. I loved the instant attraction and how the relationship between Ryker and Heather developed until it became impossible to resist and eventually explodes into passion.

This was a wonderful story that brought the feels. I’m so looking forward to more from this series.

Although this is the second book in the series it can be read as a standalone. This is Heather and Ryker's story, it was fun and romantic. When Ryker sees Heather he is drawn to her and goes all out to get to know her. Heather is a single mum to an adorable little girl, she's been hurt in the past and is wary of getting involved with anyone. Ryker is a successful businessman, he's confident but not arrogant which makes him very likeable. When he see's her he becomes determined to get to know her and gain her trust. I liked the romance of the story and the secondary characters. The pace of the story was good and didn't feel rushed. An enjoyable romantic book.

I love Layla’s other books so much, but this one was so idk cringe.

Least favorite book so far. Heather seemed to jump from one relationship to the next without thought of how her kid would feel. She also seemed too trusting and loose. How can you just start dating someone when you broke up with someone the day before? A person you were going to move in with like it doesn’t seem realistic. Usually when you move in with someone it because you have strong emotions for them, but like she didn’t even mourn her old flame even if he was a douchebag. I think Avery was the best part of the story.

City of Dreams

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There is something special about Layla Hagen’s brand of romance. You can depend upon it to warm your soul. Since Hagen has moved into the world of the Winchester family, she shows what she does best: crafting stories with heroes and heroines that we can trust to get us to that happy ending with a little bit of strife, but a whole lot of loving. Hagen’s newest book, Just One Kiss, gifts us with all of that and more.

Using the single mother trope for this book, Hagen takes one of the Winchester family’s requisite playboys, the “flirt,” Ryker Winchester, and she places him directly in the life of her single mother heroine, Heather. As far as Ryker is concerned, it is “interest at first sight.” Heather finds herself in a bar at the end of a relationship. Her ex humiliates her publically and Ryker steps in to end it. She catches his eye, but he is unable to get her information as his new guitar becomes damaged in the altercation. Days later, Heather returns to the bar to find Ryker as a way to thank him for his help, and there are instant sparks between these two. Ryker “shoots his shot” and they embark on the journey of falling for each other. The complications of this story lie in Ryker’s day job as a financial wizard and Heather’s worry that she’s moving too quickly into a relationship, putting her daughter’s happiness at risk. This worry causes her to put up walls against Ryker, yet he is determined to win her and her daughter over.

Ryker is Hagen’s usual hero. He’s stalwart, dedicated to his family, and persistent. He’s a “good guy” with no intention of hurting Heather and her daughter, Avery. For a “playboyish” kind of guy, he falls quickly for Heather. However, he really has no intention of stepping back. Instead, he works diligently to win Heather’s heart. His family is important to him too, so he tends to be the family member who worries about his sisters. He is the type of hero that Hagen manages to craft easily.

As the heroine, Heather’s concerns are valid. This is a woman who has been burned by the few men in her life, including her daughter’s father. Yet, Ryker’s magnetism is too much for her, and she falls easily under his spell. What this causes in Just One Kiss is a constant doubt and internal censure as she fears moving too quickly with Ryker. She, however, continues to fall fast. There is never any real concern that Heather and Ryker won’t end up together. Hagen wants us to think there could be an issue, but it isn’t profound enough. If I have any criticism about Just One Kiss is the sense that the inciting moment in the story is seemingly greater than it actually is. Sometimes, it reads as a bit too manufactured. I know it’s necessary for story-telling, but it should feel more organic. For example, Ryker never questions his interest in Heather. Not ever. When the inciting moment occurs and Heather and her daughter leave, it doesn’t feel natural because we know Ryker will chase her. He loves them too much. For this to be more effective, more self-doubt from Ryker throughout the story would have made it more impactful, I think.

Just One Kiss is a sweet tale of a man and woman who find each other when they aren’t expecting it. Ryker and Heather’s chemistry flies off the page, and their happily-ever-after is expected from the start. If you love romance where the characters love family and fall deeply for each other, then you’ll want to read Layla Hagen’s brand of romance, specifically Just One Kiss.
