Waiting For Callum is the second book in the Waite family series and it's a story of loss and love. I adore Angel's writing, there's something so British about the way she writes and the descriptions she includes, but there was something missing this time that was there in Waiting For Milo, which I recommend you read first. If you love a slow burn romance, and I mean REALLY slow, then this is the perfect book for you.
Callum Waite is the soft soul of the Waite siblings, he is the carer, always putting others feelings and dreams first, including his ex-fiancee and his family. So when he meets Becca, who's recently widowed, it's in his nature to care for her too and help her through an incredibly tough period of time. In turn, she helps him come to terms with his own losses in life and encourages him to get the closure he needs from the areas of his past he has locked away.
I really enjoyed watching Callum and Becca build a friendship, getting to know one another and opening up, letting the other into their hurt. I immensely enjoyed this book up until about 70% when there is a change of pace and any signs of romance ground to a halt. If it wasn't for some meddling, they wouldn't have even ended up together and the whole ending felt rushed and a bit abrupt. I have never read a romance book where by 95% the couple still hadn't admitted their feelings to one another, let alone kissed so to rush something that had the entire book had been building up to left me feeling disappointed and robbed of the sweet moments of them as a couple. I understand that it's not a steamy and hot romance, and it's not in Callum's nature to be a caveman like his brother Milo, but I would've liked something a bit more than what this book had. I think if it had been longer in length, my rating would've been much higher, because I do think the build up and time between them meeting and getting together is needed for the story to progress, especially after how the book starts with Becca's grief. I just felt it was a strange point to end the story.
Callum is such a good guy. He is having to live with the hand he's been dealt and is always there for anyone in their time of need, whether it's strangers or his own family. Becca is going through so many different emotions, my heart broke for her for having to be put through so much hurt when she was already grieving. They were perfect for each other in the end, with the little bit we saw of them together.
Waiting for Callum is about loss, betrayal, heartbreak and love but also about time helping you heal. I am intrigued by the ending with the cliffhanger so can't wait for Ezra's story next!
