When fame meets notoriety, danger is never far behind.
Clay has it all. Running Frankie Finch’s rooftop nightclub, he has everything his heart desires, prestige, a constant succession of beautiful girls in his bed, and an opulent lifestyle. That is until ambitious starlet Pandora sashays into the club and turns his life upside down.
After a passionate affair, desire turns to obsession as they find themselves dragged into a dark game of deception and desperation where death is a constant threat.
As a rival gang encroaches on Frankie’s East London turf and gang war threatens, can Clay keep his head and avoid risking everything when the stakes are dangerously high?
“The sexiness of Jackie Collins with the storytelling of Jeffrey Archer.”
*I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. *No spoilers here!
For a book in about gangsters, I was happy it was not about blood and guts. This book feels more like a look into the ordinary lives of people who happen to be in a shady business, with a night club as the main front/setting. I thought the characters felt real and relatable. That said, genre wise, this is more a romance novel than a gangster novel. The gangster aspect felt more like a subplot with the relationships between characters as the main focus.
The fast pace of the beginning drew me right in and the author is great at giving details about the characters allowing the reader to really get to know them. But the constant shift in POV threw me off until I got used to it. Because of this it took me a bit too sort out who the MC's were.
At 56% of the book, I started to get into the swing of it and enjoyed it. With that in mind, I would have liked to have seen more about Ivy and what happened to her when she disappeared halfway through the book as the book had started with her perspective.
Come 58-89% of the book (to ch 41) things started to stray off for me. I started skiming Pandora's chapters so it lost a star for that, but that might just be my personal preference. Even with that, I did enjoy this book because of the overall feelings it created.
If you are looking for a fast pace story about relationships, then this book is for you. Thank you to the author for sharing this book!
"Notorious: Danger, Deception, Desire" is the second book of the Frankie Finch series by TM Thorne and boy, is this one thrilling roller-coaster ride! T.M Thorne does it again! This book is centred around Clarence (Clay) Caulder who is in charge of the daily operations of "The Flamingo Club" owned by Frankie Finch. As you turn the pages, you feel a tsunami of emotions for this male protagonist as his gallivanting ways, his charm and his intense and tumultuous relationship with Pandora Caine comes to light. Amidst this, there are several mini-plots woven that complement this book. The supporting characters of Ivy, Bea, Stanley, Linda Finch, Big Arf and the Albanian mob makes it very hard to put the book down. Christopher Slaughter is a character that caught my eye early on, and his journey with Frankie Finch is nothing short of memorable. The inner monologue of Frankie Finch made me giggle and adds an element of refreshing humour. I loved the ending for its entwined with hope and pragmatism. A 5 star read all the way! A thank you to T.M Thorne for giving me an ARC copy of this. This honest review is left voluntarily.
London gangster meets Hollywood glam! Clay manages The Flamingo Club for the notorious gangster Frankie Finch. A charming ladies’ man, there is a new girl every night – until he meets Pandora. But, with a name like that, can she really be good news? I am a personal fan of Frankie Finch, a charismatic London gangster, with his head steady on his shoulders, and had the pleasure of making his acquaintance in “Driven”, T.M. Thorne’s previous novel. I was happy to find him again in a different kind of setting, in a world where gangsters and movie stars meet in an explosion of Hollywood panache. The character-driven plot is very well paced and after a few chapters you cannot put this book down! You simply have to know how it ends! It is such a well-written novel, full of humour, with good, strong characters. It is sexy and glamourous with the hint of danger that comes with the territory of the gangster world. You will not be disappointed!
Fast paced and sometimes steamy action. Follows the daily lives and interactions of various members of the underworld and their families/partners. Frankie is the gang boss. Good characterisation. I found the book hard to put down, and I’m keen to read the follow up book to see what happens next. I received this book as an ARC and this review is entirely voluntary.
An intriguing glimpse into the seedy under belly of East End - well plotted characters mixed with glamour and glitz. A hot romance and flawed hero’s combined with rivals make for a great story.
I really enjoyed this well written story! Great characters, good plot & ideas! A pleasure to read! I do recommend this & will look forward to reading more by this talented writer!
