Alone With God is a call to young people to live "the life that counts." Andross wants young people to fall in love with God and spend quality time with Him in His word and in prayer so that their relationships with God can thrive. The book is full of short illustrations and quotes from famous Christians who devoted their lives to connection and service to God. Opinion: I can't help but praise a book written by a relative - my great grandmother's grandmother! I found it easy to read, as it seemed to go from illustration to illustration in an easy-to-read manner. She wrote this book to young people nearly a hundred years ago. Several times it struck me that "times have changed" and this sort of writing or tone or even set of standards wouldn't fare as well with youth today. That said, I don't think it's out of touch, and I'd assume that many youth would still be encouraged by it and find it accessible. I will recommend it to conscientious young people and adults who look for some inspiration to connect with God more regularly and deeply in their lives. My Takeaways: 1. Live the Life that Counts. Nothing is more important than a living connection with my heavenly Father. 2. I need to actually do what this book says! Pray, read Scripture, live out the priorities I say I have.
How often do you spend time with God? Do you give Him the best hours of your day? How important is your devotional hour in the morning or in the evening? Do you understand what a great privilege we have to be able to approach the Creator and King of the Universe anytime of the day? These are just a few questions that I asked myself when l was reading this book.
Alone with God is the first book l read in 2013 and I could not have picked up a better book. To think it was written in 1917 before l was even born or thought of, this book is still as fresh as it was when it was first published. The author dwells on the importance of daily communion with God and spending time with Him. She writes a lot of stories throughout the book which makes it very hard to put down. I couldn’t help but highlight most of the quotes throughout the book. This book set me off on the right course at the beginning of the year as l yearned to spend more time with God.
