I really like this portrayal of Catherine de Medici. So far this author has been fairer to her than any other book, documentary, or article that I have seen or read. I loved the concluding remarks where the author quotes Henry IV (Henry of Navarre for those who know the main characters from this time.) Filled with from letters and official documents, I feel this paints a truer picture of the events that have made Catherine and her children infamous. This is a must read for anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of the French religious wars.
well-written and researched introduction to three of the most famous women of their time. reads more like a page-turner/novel, but doesn't skimp on the facts. The author is clearly a fan of his three subjects, but allows the reader to decide. Highly recommended
I read this book before a trip to the Loire Valley in France. The information I learned really added to my travel experience! It's certainly not the most engrossing book ever written, but I thought it was worth the read and even more so before visiting the location where a lot of the book takes place.
