Thirsty Hearts #6

Two to Tangle

Rate this book
Family betrayal haunts new love…

Delilah Johnston and Griffin Kelso ring in the New Year with revels and romance. But once the champagne runs dry, the differences between them crash the party.

With a divorce, raising her daughter, and a corporate job in the rearview mirror, forty-something Delilah is ready to indulge herself with passion and a new life. Yes, she agreed to help her ex-boss Griffin launch his new business, but that’s temporary. The tantalizing heat between them, however, isn’t—or so she hopes.

Nearly ten years her junior, Griffin jettisons his playboy ways and sets his sights on Delilah. He aims to build a personal legacy with her by his side. But when his father’s health problems—and the older man’s scheming wife—call him home, he can no longer ignore the betrayal and pain of the past.

He finds refuge in the always willing and wise Delilah. But the more he leans on her, the more she wonders: when is it her turn?

Family drama knocks the couple off course into a tangle of secrets. Can Delilah and Griffin find a path forward together? Or will a disconcerting revelation divide them forever?

Two to Tangle is a sexy, seasoned BWWM romance with family drama and a May-December surprise. It continues the love story of Delilah and Griffin that began in the holiday novella, Christmas for Two, but can be read as a stand-alone.

Delilah and Griffin decide to officially date after having an unexpected holiday fling. She's 10 years older with a soon to be married 22-year old daughter who thinks she has life and the relationship of others, all figured out.

When Griffin gets the dreaded phone call that his estranged father is at death's door, he drops everything to be at his bedside only to discover it was a ruse by his former girlfriend now married to his father. He's angry but is forced to play nice when his half-siblings practically beg him to stay and have Christmas with them.

Delilah's life is not without drama. Her drug-addicted ne'er to do well mother is trying to insinuate herself back into her life. Delilah's mother is unrepentant and unapologetic about the past, despite the fact she was never there for Delilah because she preferred drugs and men over the welfare of her own daughter.

Can the past be forgiven or are they doomed to repeat it?

Two to Tangle packs a ton of heart inside of a tiny package. Jayne gives readers a lesson about life, love and hope. Within these pages she reminds us what it feels like to laugh our way through the hard times. Delilah and Griffin are more than the heartaches and the drama. Despite the moments of self-doubt and hard knocks, they are fighters in every sense of the word.

Let me start by saying this is the first book I have read by this author.

I had no idea this was part of a series, but now I want to read the other books.

This story is going to take you on a journey for sure.

There were moments I laughed, and moments when my heart was sad, but in the end of worked out.

Disappointing. Didn’t really feel like a romance

The book kept pushing forgiveness but I’m sorry most of it was unpalatable to me. Let’s start with Griffin’s father. I know that there is no fool like an old fool but it inconcevable to me that a father would sleep, let alone marry his son ex girlfriend of a few years. Some boundaries are not meant to be crossed. To think that he waited 7 years to properly apologize is even more shocking. Worse, he only apologized because she propositioned his “son Carter” and he felt humiliated. Karma. Next Griffin. His whole attitude was cowardly, Delilah is right. First of all, he should have said something 6 years ago. He was 28 years old at the time so not a child. Even if his father didn’t believe him, at least he would have had the truth. Now, he is being wishy washy about first finding out and next actually telling Grace asap. All this nonsense about her being settled etc is just excuses. She is still young and it’s best to tell her as early as possible instead of having her crumble once she realizes that her foundation is a lie. His attitude towards having children apart from Grace is also flippant. It’s all great and good to say, I rather have love however he should really give it more thought and really be sure. This is how resentment arises. Delilah. Yes she was somewhat rigid however they are things on which she should have stuck to her guns. Her mother. She might be a great friend to Katerina, however to Delilah she is toxic and she should stay away from her. She never put her first. Even if she was an addict and had to leave her, not telling her about her father is unacceptable. Not apologizing for her behavior is unacceptable, bypassing her and using her daughter because she feels lonely is unacceptable. I get that she loves Griffin but on this thing with Grace she shouldn’t have compromised. She can be thankful for the info about her dad but that’s it. She and Grace are different people, however she knows how these lies affect people. Being complicit isn’t trusting his judgment. Also, she’s adamant about not having kids again. If Griffin ever comes around to telling the truth, is she ready to be a stepmother? The one thing I think she could have compromised on is actually having a discussion about having kids, instead of dismissing it off hand because her daughter is grown. I disliked Katerina. She was pushy, first about Zola. She wants what she wants and therefore dismisses her mother’s feelings just so that she’s comfortable. How can she not see how inappropriate it is for her in-laws to pay for the tickets or for her boyfriend to lend her grandmother money? Second about apologizing to Griffin. She doesn’t know the issue but assumes that it’s her mother’s fault. Having an American caterer for a wedding in France sounded silly. Lastly, I still don’t trust Carter. He was rude and envious of Griffin whilst he actually needed something from him. His attitude towards Delilah was foul too. Again, business might be business, however I wouldn’t help anyone who was disrespectful to my girlfriend.

3/5

Ebook

* Summary: Businessman Griffin starts a relationship with his former assistant Delilah, despite the gap in their ages, and combats his family drama (estranged father married his ex-girlfriend) and her own issues with her mother and adult daughter.

* Stats: CR, M/F, interracial relationship, age gap (older FMC), very strange open door (a lot of fading out mid sex), part of a series and might (?) be better in order.

* Notes: This just didn’t quite feel like a complete story to me - it starts part way in to their relationship (we don’t actually “see” their first date or the first time they have sex) and ends in a rush with a lot of unresolved issues - maybe some of this is because I haven’t read the rest of the series, but was enjoyable - certainly a bit soapy. One thing that I did really like was that both characters do really give some serious thought to the difference in their ages, and how that might impact their futures. I also liked that the author didn’t shy away from the complexity of the family relationships, though the OW drama is… a lot and the character is pretty much written as completely unredeemable (which seemed like a little bit of a cop out). The sex was written weird to me - the sex scenes sort of fade off half way through each one, so you really never get the whole “experience”, but they’re also definitely open door… It just wasn’t really something I enjoyed. I’d rather the author had either committed to the scenes or made them substantially more closed door. I liked how the age gap was handled, and that the FMC is the one who undeniably fucks up and thought the difficulties of parenting an adult child, and dealing with a difficult and estranged parent were both thoughtfully represented.

I did enjoy Delilah and Griffin's journey, being in my forties I could relate with Delilah in a lot of ways. This was well written, very easy to read and connect with the characters. It was certainly not lacking those feels either!

Griffin is nearly ten years younger than Delilah and the chemistry between them is hot. Delilah is a divorcee single parent so you can imagine the doubts and insecurities she must have. Then with the family drama and betrayals of the past and present going on it didn't help Griffin and Delilah's case at all, it totally throws them off course; I was willing them to get together. In fact, there was more than just ups and downs to this story, I found myself smiling and maybe even chuckled at some humour. You've got to have a bit of humour even in those darker moments.

Although this being part of a series it can totally be without reading the others, I know this because unfortunately, I haven't read them. They have been added to my TBR list though.

Beautiful May-December, interracial couple finding true love

I loved Delilah and Griffin and their insta-Love story. While they knew each other from working together, it’s not until Griffin is ready to launch a new business that he reaches out to former employee Delilah Johnston and ALL the sparks fly.

While rushed, their combustible chemistry didn’t feel forced in any way.

There are a few funny moments, lots of angst, and plenty of people who want to inject themselves into Griffin and Deliliah’s budding relationship, and because of this they have to overcome many obstacles on their path to true love.

Honestly, there are quite a few simple typos, but the story itself is so well written that those minor typos don’t detract from the flow.

I can’t wait to read newsletter and the follow up to the paternity. NOTE: there is no cliffhanger and they get their HEA, but the newsletter promises a look into their immediate future

Delilah is divorced single mother who finally left a corporate job for a new start in life. Griffin is 10 years her junior but he's determined to make her his. Obviously, she's got some insecurities from that divorce, but she & Griffin have some serious chemistry shooting sparks everywhere which won't be denied for long. Unfortunately, the twists were coming from every direction with all the family secrets & betrayals, which definitely made it harder for them to actually start something serious. This story was a great read which ran the course with my emotions as I felt them all. So can Delilah & Griffin get past everything which has tried to derail them for a shot at a fantastic new future?! You'll have to hit those one click buttons to find out! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Entanglements

The story had a strange entanglement that I was sure would break this family into small pieces. The younger man older woman, and an much older man and a whole lot younger woman story had me reeling. I'm sure I would have been out like a ghost once some facts were revealed. Its about love, I know, but dang... I'm not that forgiving. The story was nicely written, even with the dreaded word I abhor - C%(π...

The genre of this book needs to change from romance to drama
There was 1 sex scene, 1 private dinner/date and almost no time as a couple. There were a lot of other people's opinions about their relationship, other people discussing how the should behave and a lot of relationship discussion with other people. There was plenty of drama from other family and friend and extreme details about other family members and friends

What there was not was a romance 😒

I really enjoyed this book. Delilah is in her 40’s, divorced, and raising her daughter and ready to get on with her life. She agrees to help her ex boss, Griffin, launch his new business and the attraction between is palpable. Their journey isn’t an easy one with family dramas, ups and downs, but it’s a really enjoyable read and one I highly recommend.

Delilah and Griffin is a Christmas gift. The only thing better would be an update.
