Bulwark- a wall or stockade that protects or sometimes hides the truth
from the outside world.

Savannah Daniels is looking forward to spending some alone time with her longtime boyfriend, Marshall. Everything during this fun-filled spring break was moving along fine, until his awkward cousin Stefano, and his equally weird girlfriend, Sheena decide to crash the party. It didn’t take a college graduate to realize something was definitely up with these two blood-sucking intruders, and it isn’t long before the true intentions about what they are and what they want become clear.

Savannah is powerless to stop their attack on Marshall but with capabilities passed down from her grandmother, she finds the tools she needs to stop them and hopefully prevent Marshall's transitioning. When all three disappear before she can act, Savannah jumps into high-gear tracking their every move. Finally, her journey takes her to Bulwark, Georgia where she learns things are equally as complicated there, and more than just vampires go bump in the night.

‘You have to be careful out here at night…’

Florida author R.L Jackson is an independent filmmaker, magazine editor and screenwriter as well as an author of growing stature. Her series THE CRASHING SERIES showed promise of a very well skilled romance writer – a ringmaster of a dark circus of players whose identities may be a bit difficult to isolate at times but whose interaction produces a fast paced ride guaranteed to keep your attention and your adrenaline high. Now she joins ranks with eight other authors for the BULWARK ANTHOLOGY - contributing THE CRAVING as Book 3 of that impressive anthology inspired by the novel BULWARK by Brit Lunden.

RL wastes no time getting us involved in her tense story. In the first few paragraphs she gives a well painted portrait of her heroine Savannah and a solid hint of the problematic relationship to come ‘The university campus really hopped with excitement as students headed towards different parties to celebrate the start of spring week break. Savannah Daniels sloshed across the damp grass blades on the quad. The temperature cooler than normal for a Florida night and the short cut-off jeans, yellow tank top and flip flops she wore was no protection against the chill she felt on her skin. She rushed towards Beta Lambda Delta, her boyfriend Marshall’s frat house to join in the festivities of the pre-spring break party he’d been obsessing about for weeks.’ Scene set, action begins.

Whoever supplies the author with a plot synopsis is excellent – ‘Savannah Daniels is looking forward to spending some alone time with her longtime boyfriend, Marshall. When all three disappear before she can act, Savannah jumps into high gear tracking their every move. Finally, her journey takes her to Bulwark, Georgia where she learns things are equally as complicated there, and more than just vampires go bump in the night.’

All the ingredients for a very strange and complex romance cum vampires and story are here and the manner in which RL Jackson stirs the broth offers a fine installment for the BULWARK ANTHOLOGY. Highly recommended.

WOW!!!! Where do I start.... this was amazing.
Such wonderful writing compacted into this small story! The malevolence you can just feel drawing you deeper in as the plot develops.
I love the combination of folklore with modern imagery of witches, werewolves and vampires introduced into the characters of this small town called Bulwark.
I love the character Savannah and she transformed into the badass heroine.
I loved everything about this book! The action never stops and the ending I did not see that one coming!!
I can't wait to read more in this series.

Oh wow, this book! I seriously started reading it because I loved the cover so much. I didn't look at the blurb so I had no idea what it was about. What an awesome read!! It starts on a lonely, dark college campus and from there, strap in for a wild ride in this novella that I never expected with each page I turned. Savannah turns out to be a witch who is soon fighting vampires and werewolves and even better? She's winning while doing so! She discovers she's from a powerful line of witches. She has to gather her powers and harness them in a matter of mere hours in order to save her boyfriend Marshall from a clan of evil Vampires set to try and take over the world... plotting to use her as an instrument to do so.
The book is fast-paced and well written.
But the end! OMG the end! I can't get over it. I wish there was more!! So much more! Highly recommend.

I totalled loved the book!..The Craving, will leave you craving more! Was way out of my genre with the vampires. I have never read a story, book, essay, anything about or on vampires. I thought I would struggle at first but I couldn't put the book down. I really got into the story! And meeting new people, yet not from Walwark, yet end up there because of what the town has to offer the vampires and witches. I just thought the book was just awesome and the plot was movie material. Well my opinion anyway! So many twists and drama! Yay! R.L. JACKSON..Great job! Thanks for the ARC, and here I leave my voluntary review. On to my next book in the Anthology, The window by: E.H. Graham.. Totally recommend reading this book! Will be worth your time!

Short atmospheric read, you can feel the malevolence drawing you further into the plot until the end which I'm hoping is just the beginning of more to come.
The combination of folklore with modern imagery of witches, werewolves and vampires some many characters introduced into the little town of Bulwark.
As Savannah's powers and her acceptance of them grows  she develops some awesome magical skills.A good introduction we are left wondering what happens next with Marshall does he turn and Savannah is she able to save him?

This book is part of an anthology that can be read in order or by itself.
This is a well-written story with plenty of unexpected twists and turns... very entertaining. All the characters are vivid and realistic. I like the romantic relationship between the main characters... sweet, sexy, and responsible. I especially like that the main character is strong, confident, and will do whatever it takes to help her boyfriend. She's one of the best bad-ass heroines I've ever read.
I did not like how the story ended. Just being honest.

The Craving packs an incredible amount into such a short book. Savannah grows so much, and kicks plenty of ass, through this story. I really enjoyed the different magical powers and the way the vampires were portrayed. I'm definitely hoping for another story (or three) to find out what happens to these characters and hopefully explore more of the history that has been built into this action-packed read! Great world building along with a wonderfully paced adventure.

Loved this book! First of all Savannah is a BAD. ASS. Original and different takes on vampires are always intriguing and The Craving does not disappoint. If you want a vampire story mixed with magic, witches and adventure, pick up this book! Not typical in the least!

I couldn't put the book down. I was up waaay past my bedtime and I didnt realise it was after 3am! lol! Love the different take on vampires here. Loved how Savannah was the savior instead of the meek highschool kid. Loved the folklore mixed in, just awesomeness packed in a short book. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Short and Sweet

If you're looking for a quick read, this is a good one. Savannah and her college boyfriend, Marshall have planned to spend spring break together. Trying to ignore the missing students, they relax in the peace of the empty campus. That is, until an unwelcome family member comes to visit. Savannah and Marshall's love is cute, but would have liked more.

When one of them is threatened, the other must decide what they're willing to do to save the them. Fast-paced, plot driven story. It reminded me of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer stories.

While for the most part I’m not into supernatural thrillers, this one had me hooked! The characters are well fleshed out. The action is intense and gripping, I was hooked. I literally read this in one sitting. Can’t wait to read more about this crew of characters!

A typical vampire story, not bad, but nothing particularly original on it. And I didn't like the main character, which is a break-dealer to me.

It's okay if you're looking for a quick, traditional vampire story.

While I enjoyed the story, it was half-way through the book before Bulwark was even mentioned. That left me feeling that the tie-in was an afterthought.

The layout of the town of Bulwark seemed a little off compared to the original Bulwark and another book in the anthology.

I enjoyed the characters and their development but found a couple of scenes a little unclear or not in line with the mythology established earlier in the story.

On a whole, it was a good read and I look forward to seeing where the rest of the antholgy takes us and if the main characters from this book make another appearance to further their story.

i feel like i’m usually a very forgiving rater but this one. Oof. Felt like a wattpad fic but not a great one. I went in expecting ooooh sexy vampire fun! And that was not what i got. Maybe that’s on me for having expectations.

Writing was not great, characters were pretty annoying, and honestly it was just boring and hard to get through. I kept checking how much longer i had because i wanted it to be over.

Seemed like a fun idea but felt like a bad vampire diaries fanfic.
