The sun is shining in Mallorca and everything looks beautiful. But the residents of one particular apartment block are about to discover it all might be too good to be true...

Full Blurb:

George and Ellen have retired to sunny Mallorca. Social butterfly Ellen is itching to make yacht-owning friends while George's heart is set on a secluded farmhouse in the country. In fact, now that they're no longer living busy London lives, they're beginning to realise they have very different ideas of happiness.

Private investigator, Salva, specialises in cases of adultery. That's why it's particularly embarrassing that he didn't realise his long-term girlfriend has been cheating on him. He has no time to nurse a broken heart since his family are the victims of a property scam they urgently need him to solve.

Robyn Chase is giving talks on her self-help book No More Toxic Relationships - 7 Years, 7 Lessons. She's finding it awkward being a relationship guru when her own boyfriend is avoiding her.

The sun is shining in Mallorca and everything looks beautiful. But the residents of one particular apartment block are about to discover it all might be too good to be true.

Well that certainly kept me guessing throughout. The first line of the blurb really does give a fabulous insight as to the contents of the book.

The Sun.... well the book is set in Mallorca, and it really is sunny there, and it features chapters from the viewpoints of Salva, Ellen, George and Robyn. Robyn's chapters are written in italics which distinguishes them and her voice from the others, as hers are her current diary entries. Salva is a private investigator, has recently been dumped and his whole family have come to stay in his small apartment. While Ellen and George have just moved to Mallorca and all of them are living in the same building.

The ocean... Ellen can't understand why George insisted on not only moving them to Mallorca but also wanting a place so inland that they aren't near the ocean. Whereas Salva and Robyn do some paddleboarding in the ocean, and once scene of that definitely stands out.

The farmhouse - completely central to the plot, at least for Ellen and George, as they deliberate long and hard whether this is the property they really want to buy.

The scammer - ah yes there is certainly a scammer in this book and its part of the reason Salva is spending nights on friends couches, while his family take over his apartment. There are also conmen in this story, and well with thoughts of scammers, fraud etc.. well it almost makes you wonder why people move to Mallorca!

The police - hmm the local Spanish police seem completely uninterested in anything that is going on!

Ah the three-legged dog, a key part on the scam, and potentially the biggest clue to working out the truth of who they are!

There are assorted new friendships, there is a marriage that is really not looking that secure as it is clear how different both parties are, and then there is Robyn. She is clearly hiding things, and as a reader I had an inkling about some of it, but not to the full extent.

Definitely a book that keeps you on your toes, as you try to work out just how everything will come together and potentially unravel at the same time. The last quarter or so I could barely tear myself away from, as you are moving towards a great climax.

I'd have loved some more of Mallorca in there, didn't really get a feel for the island, which is a shame as 10 years ago this year, I spent 2 summers on the island working and would have loved in this scary new world to have travelled their in my armchair!

Another really good book from Emily Benet, not my favourite but still an entertaining story.

Thank you to the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

First of all I have to say, I loved that this book was set in Mallorca even if it did make me miss the sun!!!

This was a fab book with some great characters and there was certainly lots things happening that it kept you hooked in the story and wanting to read on. It did take me a short while near the beginning to get into the story but then I found myself routing for characters and wanting to read on to find out the outcome. I like how it was told from multiple perspective, this sometimes I find confusing but this actually helped with the picture of what was happening and how it all connected together.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this one but it definitely turned out to be a fun read which I enjoyed.

Drama, mystery, and secrets, oh my,
Tipping point takes you on entertaining ride

The author describes her characters in a very nice manner, where you immediately connect to them. I loved all the story-lines and the way the author juggled between them. Moreover, the author beautifully highlights how some relationships are at their tipping point, and how a small push can change people’s lives.

The author made their relationship interesting and I loved Salva and Robyn. I thought both of them were dynamic. Also, I really disliked Ellen in the story. She is selfish, manipulative, and someone you just love to hate. At the same time, I loved George and Salva as the male leads. What’s interesting is how the author paints the male characters in a vulnerable light. In many such stories, the men come across as conniving, making you root for the female protagonist. But, in this story, my heart went out to the male leads. Although George is petty in some ways, I felt bad for his toxic relationship. Salva is adorable with his sense of humor, his role as the detective, and his love for Robyn.

My only criticism in the story is that it is a bit slow in the beginning. The author takes time to setup the plot and the relationship between the characters. However, once the author set the plots, the story picks up full speed midway. Also, there are quite a few twists which I did not anticipate. There is also an element of suspense, where you don’t know how all the characters connect to each other. Furthermore, I also liked the mystery element of the three legged dog, and the scam that causes the rift.

Overall, “Tipping Point” turned out to be a fun read.

The story centres on four characters, Helen and her husband George, who are in their 60s and have moved to Majorca to start a new life. Salva is a Spanish private investigator who has recently broken up with his long-term partner who was unfaithful to him and Robyn, author of a relationship self-help book who is on the island conducting a series of talks.

The book deals with the issues surrounding a marriage of 37 years which is coming to the end of the line, with Ellen hellbent on enjoying her remaining years by living the high life and joining a yachting set whereas her husband George prefers a quiet life and dreams of buying Majorcan house farmhouse to call their home. The handsome Salva feels foolish for being a private investigator and not realising that his girlfriend of six years Sonia has been unfaithful to him. Robyn is in Majorca giving talks on becoming stronger after failed relationships off the back of the success that her book has had, but we soon learn that she’s hiding some relationship issues herself and she realises that she feels like a fraud dishing out relationship advice when her private life is less than perfect. Each chapter is dedicated to one of the characters and I particularly enjoyed Robyn’s whose chapters were written in the form of diary entries. The style of writing for each separate character was completely different so you really got a feel for each person, something I think the author did really well.

These four characters all live in the same apartment block for the duration of the story and the author effectively weaves the story between each of them. I love the character of Salva, felt sorry for George and found Ellen quite selfish and hard to warm to with her shallow outlook and constant issues with ageing.

The author writes about Majorca in such a way that you are transported to the sandy beaches, sunshine and Palma its capital. The accounts of expat life were interesting and having visited Majorca a few times myself I could really imagine the lives of the characters against the gorgeous backdrop of the island.

This book completely sucked me in and once I started reading it I completely devoured it. The second half contain so much action that you can’t tear your eyes eyes away and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. A wonderful escapist novel that will hook you in.

I was thrilled to see this author come up for review , I remember ‘Please Retweet’ from the earlier days of the blog and had marked her as one to watch so jumped for this one!

This is a book for those of you who want to be transported to a very vivid but sometimes stark destination in Spain. We meet Salva, a jaded investigator who is beginning to feel the weight of his job as he’s surrounded by his family who are trying to solve some issues.

We move on to a number of different people, including a motivational speaker who doesn’t always take her own advice, a smooth talking charlatan and a couple who both want very different things as they live out their spanish ‘dream’. It was these two that gripped me most, as I felt for both at different times, but obviously leaned towards one(!)

I loved how all of the stories continued along and then careered into each other at the intersection which had me willing on people to do the right thing. All in all a very riveting read, with the perfect balance of gripping and madcap, set against a great backdrop with excellent characters.

Very much recommended! Thanks so much to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for the book in return for an honest review.

This was a fascinating read, a truly circular plot that connected the inhabitants of an apartment block in more ways than you might possibly imagine.

Salva is a private investigator, wondering if his business will ever be as successful as he'd like it to be. He's also feeling a tad sorry for himself after his girlfriend of six years recently left him. While he's in this state of despondency, his family descend on him from Madrid. They had originally booked a farmhouse/villa for their holiday but the booking now seems to be nothing but a scam. Can Salva sort it out for them? Find the scammer and get his apartment back.

Ellen & George are renting an apartment in the same block while looking for a place to buy. George wants to purchase a place inland, where his money goes further and they can live off the land and fully integrate into Spanish life. Ellen yearns to be by the coast, joining the yachting set and having a whale of a time with the expat community. When George is sorely tempted by a remote farmhouse, Ellen fears becoming a hermit and dying or boredom. When a local surveyor offers to do a survey on the place, Ellen hopes he'll find the place is falling to bits. The fact that the surveyor is a huge flirt and owns a boat soon sees her drooling over a different lifestyle, possibly without George.

The final main resident of the apartment block is Robyn, author of a hugely successful book about relationships. Is she the guru who can help mend Salva's broken heart, or give Ellen and George hope for a future together. Well, of course, all is not as it seems. Robyn has her own secrets, as well as a relationship that has seen better days.

The story is told from their perspectives, and the interconnectivity of the three stories is hugely satisfying. How they connect is very clever and revealed in a drip-drip manner, making it a great mystery yet also an insight into the different lifestyles of the residents of a single apartment block.
A most enjoyable story.

I’ve joined up with Rachel’s Random Resources to take part in the blog tour for Tipping Point. This is my first ever blog tour and Emily has made sure that the book I read for it was a good one! I absolutely love Mallorca, I've been on there countless times, it was always our 'go to' place for a family holiday when I was younger. So a setting in a place I love? Great start! ⁣

At first, I thought there were going to be too many characters to keep up with, but honestly, it didn't feel like that at all! I did think that the fact they all lived in the same apartment block seemed a bit of a loose connection for such multi-narrative, but I loved how you saw them come together throughout the story. I've mentioned before on here that I struggle to connect characters in the third person dialogue, and although it was only Robyn's voice that was first person, I felt fully invested in each and every character.

I loved how each character's story was so different, yet so connected. I will admit, I kind of saw one or two things coming towards the end, but then on the other hand, things I thought were going to happen, didn't happen, so I still got some twists and turns in there! I loved this one, and found it a great summer read, as I imagined myself in Mallorca with them all too, although hopefully without all the drama! This was my first book by Emily Benet, and I definitely plan on reading some more of hers now I've read this one! Thank you to both Rachel and Emily for letting me join in on this blog tour and giving me my gifted eBook copy of this fab read!⁣

Moving to Mallorca is a dream come to true for many, but what happens if the reality, is not what you imagined? Ellen ponders the wisdom of moving and wonders about her marriage to George in retirement. Salva is a private investigator but failed to notice his girlfriend's infidelity. When his family invade his small apartment after a scam life is anything but ideal. Robyn writes about overcoming toxic relationships and positivity, so why can't she find her happy place?

The characters are relatable and vibrant. The inclusive writing style uses sensory imagery well. There's a balance of humour, mystery, poignancy and romance in this lively story, good holiday reading.

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

I was immediately drawn to this book by the bright cover, which doesn’t seem to give very much away at all, and the first line of the blurb, which hinted at some of the main symbols in the book.

I really liked the structure of two separate storylines. The author writes with such clear and distinct narrative voices that the two separate storylines are easy to follow, whilst still keeping me intrigued and hooked on how they might interweave.

The characters are portrayed with a depth and realism that I really liked. My favourite character had to be George – he reminded me of my grandad in the way that he always tried to do the best by his wife, but couldn’t get away from his own self awareness as a simple, honest man who just wants a quiet life. I found myself getting angry at most of the other characters at one point or another!

In the last quarter of the book, the deception and suspense really ramped up and I found it difficult to put down. I am still reeling from the ending and the way George was treated, but liked the fact we got a glimpse into his future!

An absolutely incredible five star read from a new to me author, that has sent me on a rollercoaster of a journey. This is perfect for fans of domestic thrillers, and is full of intrigue, deception and suspense!

Mallorca is not only sun, sea and fun, as will soon be discovered by our main characters.

How the lives of people on the same apartment block can be so different…
First we have George and Ellen. They are a retired couple, and moved to Mallorca with big dreams. But soon they realize they have totally different views and dreams.
George is set on buying a secluded farmhouse, while Ellen is making new friends all over the island. And the richer they are, the better.
Salva is a private investigator who just found out that his girlfriend cheated on him. Having now second thoughts on his career, he has to mend a broken heart, and on top of it, he has to help his family, victims of a property scam.
Robyn Chase is a famous writer, thanks to her self – help book. Yet she is struggling with her boyfriend, who seems to prefer avoid her rather than spending time together.

How will all these characters get over their problems? And will they all find their happiness?

Initially I had some struggles, because I had no clue how all these characters would come together. Because other than just living in the same block, there wasn’t anything that linked them together.
But for those who will have the same question, don’t worry, give it time, it will all be clear!

There are people in this book, that I had some sympathy for, but slowly I had to change my mind. I am not going to say who or what, but I truly disliked some at the end!

I found this a disturbing story… it showed me that there are people with not the best intentions and are willing to take advantage of the good of people.
And even if I found it sometimes stupid how some of the main characters behaved, I know that it happens more than we think!
Everything that happens to each character could be happening to any of us.

Yet there were also silver lightings, otherwise it would be a very depressing story. Despite the people I disliked, there were several people I truly liked and sympathized with.
And it showed me that yes, there are ugly people around, there are also people with their heart at the right place, and do the right thing.

This story was about facing the truth, taking the right decision for you and putting the past behind you.

Even if at some points I didn’t like the way some characters were acting, the good actions took over and made me like this story.
