It’s 1643 and flaming-haired Micah Slater – the Red Man – has made his home county too hot to stay in. He’s sent off to London to join the Parliamentary forces, and to give them the benefit of his talent for finding trouble.
Promoted to captain, he trains a new regiment and marches out to pacify the borders of the Sussex Weald – a disputed part of southern England. Amidst political manoeuvring with the nobility and conflict with the Royalists, he meets two young ladies from very different stations in life.
Red Man discovers danger and success in both the military world and in his personal life.
I like historical novels, though this is set a bit earlier than my preferred period. I was impressed with the historical language and descriptions of the settings.
Other than that, it was a rollicking good action tale. Enough action for fun and some moral dilemmas for thought.
Interesting story about a time, we can read and learn about
I have no way to dispute any of the story line, as it is in a time and action I no very little about. The lad is a labor in a stone query and runs off to find a better life. He becomes a soldier and due to his valor is be friended by a officer higer. breeding, money and status
Excellent way to wander through history story w wareham.
Wareham is just having a lot of fun. Researchers various spots in history then inserts a character and writes a tale. Excellent way for his readers to tour history with him.
