Is anyone safe? Maybe not! Jade, a retired forensic pathologist, has severe mental issues but Tomas, a hedge fund investor, loves her anyway. He loves her when she's having good times and when she's having bad times but all Jade can see is a cheating husband even though he's never cheated. Emma is a successful dentist, dating Alastair, another forensic pathologist. Their relationship is still in the honeymoon phase, both on their best behaviour.
Jade and Tomas have just moved next door to Emma and paranoid Jade knows, immediately, that Tomas and Emma will have an affair and she cannot allow that to go unpunished. But she has met her match with Emma and Alastair, and Emma and Alastair have met their match in each other. What ensues is a murder and a game of wits and deceit and it's hard to imagine if anyone will be left standing by the end of the book. The only likeable person is Tomas and that doesn't get him very far.
This is a guilty pleasure kind of book, filled with despicable people doing despicable things. Is it ok for bad things to happen to bad people? Watch and see it happen.

And in the case of ‘My Darling’, that’s probably very true! When Tomas and Jade move next door to dentist Emma, she’ll find that life in her much loved upmarket neighbourhood, will never be the same again. Jade turns out to be the neighbour from hell - not someone you want to upset, she’s very dangerous, the problem is, Jade is very easily upset, whether it’s justified or not!
We’re well aware of Jade’s personality from the off - she’s a woman who believes that her husband Tomas fancies every woman he comes into contact with, and that makes the attractive Emma an enemy right from the start, but what about all the other characters, because there’s also Alastair, Emma’s boyfriend, what do we know about them? We’re about to find out in this gripping storyline!
Just how well do we really know anyone - how do we know what goes on in the deep and murky depths of a person’s mind?
Goodness me, what a crazy, gripping twisty storyline this is. None of the characters are particularly likeable, (apart from Tomas) but make no mistake, it makes for a compulsive read. You might have to suspend disbelief at times, but it’s worth it. Very enjoyable!

This can be chalked up by simply asking "What did I just read?" Seriously, just when I thought I had it all figured out; Robson showed she had a few more cards up her sleeve.
Jade and Tomas move next door to Emma and soon thereafter, Jade can see the warning signs. They are right there. She knows what she sees is correct. Emma and Tomas are having an affair! She is not going to allow this to happen again! Wrong behavior needs to be punished.
Emma and her boyfriend, Alistair and not going to take these allegations lying down. They have a few cards up their sleeves as well.
Soon, it becomes a game of who is more twisted, more obsessed, more calculating, more devious, and more inventive. Is anyone as they seem? This was a fun one that does not take much thought. Just turn the pages (or swipe on your e-reader) and enjoy the ride.
This is a great escape book. It is fun, it's a little over the top, it's a little far-fetched, but who the heck cares when it's this fun. These days a great escape is right up my alley.

This is a suspense/thriller or Psychological Thriller. I have to say I found this book very different, and I am still trying to wrap my mind around everything that happen in this book. The characters we follow in this book is all a little crazy, and I have never read a thriller with so many crazy characters. This book is way more then trying to find out who did the murder, but it is more about who is going to be killed next. I did really enjoy this book. I did not guess all the twist and turns in this book. I listen to the audiobook of this book, and I felt the narrator was very good. I was able to follow that different characters without any problems. I was kindly provided an e-audiobook of this book by the publisher (Avon) or author (Amanda Robson) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Amanda Robson, my darling, I have to wonder what goes on in that pretty little head of yours... 😨 YIKES!
Seriously. This lady loves creating the most vile of characters so obviously she is a favorite author of mine.
This is a book where the less said is better. You have two couples, a love triangle of sorts, delusions, paranoia, secrets, lies, and murder. What more could a lady like myself ask for? This isn't a book where twists are being thrown at you but Robson always manages to keep you off balance so you are never really sure what is happening which is something I always appreciate.
I did think the ending was a little lackluster but getting there was a damn good time. Multiple POV's and short snappy chapters make this one easy to breeze through. 4 stars!

EXCERPT: Jade: We move into our new house, Fairlawns. A large Victorian detached, near the river in Henley-on-Thames. Top end comfort. Top end price. Arriving in our Porsche, just as the removal men are entering the house with our walnut dining table, I look up and see a man and a woman standing at the side window of the house next door, staring down at us.
The woman is seriously tarty. Long blonde hair, bleached, not natural. Smelling of Botox. Not wearing very much clothing. Her short house coat does not leave much to the imagination. MY THOUGHTS: are liable to be quite incoherent. Firstly, when you plan on reading My Darling by Amanda Robson, don't plan on doing anything else until you have finished the book. It's that good. I only planned on reading a few pages before I went to sleep last night. I read the whole book. Couldn't put it down. Didn't even think about going to sleep.
Twisty doesn't even begin to describe the plot. It's like a corkscrew that has been tied in knots! Breathtaking. Heart pounding. Diabolically clever. Dark. Wicked. Absolutely sublime. There was barely a moment in which I was able to stop and draw a breath!
I loved the characters. I hated the characters. I loved to hate them. I admired their ingenuity. I admired Robson's ingenuity. I don't ever want to cross her. But I do want to read everything she has ever written, immediately.

"I hope I find a good relationship now. Men can be so controlling at times.
I had such high hopes for this one...so many sterling reviews from those I trust. And though it certainly wasn't bad, it was nowhere close to a five-star story for me...for two main reasons.
1. It was over the top. I was all in regarding the first two twists. In fact, I thought it was all quite clever and struggled to put my Kindle down. The third and fourth twists, however...not so much. They actually gave the story a cartoon-ish quality I did not find appealing.
2. The way in which the story was written. I'm honestly not sure what the goal of this writing style was, as it had the characters telling the actual story to each other instead of the reader. It was such an odd technique, making me feel very separate from the story in which I should have been immersed.
Beyond that, I really struggled with the changing narration within each chapter. Each section was labeled with a character's name, indicating the chosen narrator...but from one paragraph to the next, it would randomly change. It was so confusing. My assumption is, that will be cleaned up in final edits...but man, did it make for some awkward reading. I remember one section, the female lead, Emma, was narrating. All the sudden, it read, "I climax inside you, but this time I do not feel your muscles tightly clamped around me, encouraging me like they used to."
I was, obviously, scratching my head about that one.
I won't get into the wonky police procedural, but rest assured, you will need to suspend belief.
Regardless, this was a fun, easy, if somewhat problematic, story. It had tons of potential but simply took things too far.

My Darling is an excellent domestic thriller. A couple, Jade and Thomas, move in across the street from Emma. Alastair is Emma’s boyfriend. Jade is convinced Thomas is having an affair with Emma. Jade plans to solve this on her own. The amount of drama between these two couples is crazy and so interesting. Once you start reading, you won’t want to put down My Darling.
My Darling is dark and twisted. None of the characters can be trusted. I loved My Darling but didn’t actually like any of the characters.
This was my first Amanda Robson book, but definitely will not be my last. I recommend My Darling to domestic thriller fans.

A TSUNAMI OF CRAZY...YES
Jade, Emma and Alastair: A trio of main characters in this wave of insanity that never stops, beginning to end.
We have two main couples, Jade & Tomas, Emma & Alastair. The former has just moved in, next door to Emma. Jade has severe mental health issues that include a large helping of paranoia and a massive side dish of delusions. Emma values her work above all and includes Alastair only on her weekends. Alastair is divorced with a child, he has full custody. He and child both live with his mother. His ex-wife tells everyone he has a bad side. As if the foundation wasn't rocky already, then we have a death, a murder more precisely. You know who did it, but you don't know who will take the rap for it.
This book is told directly from each of the three main characters point of view. Nothing is a secret to the reader except for how the insanity will play out. Just when one crazy seems to be on top, another crazy out does themselves.
Initially it feels like a very "choppy" read. The chapters are quick, some only a paragraph long and each one alternating POV. This makes it harder to engage, but the level of craziness in the plot is heightened with every chapter. You can't help but read on to see just how high the author can go.
A few days after reading I still find my thoughts coming back to the book. Mainly the same thought over and over..."damn, that sh*t was crazy".

I rolled my eyes so hard reading this, that they almost fell out and rolled off down the road!
I think it's safe to say that I really didn't enjoy this! A combination of unlikeable characters, weird 2nd person narration, jarring pov changes mid paragraph, and wildy unbelievable plot twists!
I felt no connection to any of the characters, and didn't really care what happened to them beyond the first 30%, which was a shame, as the start of the book was quite good! Then it was just one silly twist after another in my opinion.
Most reviews are positive, and this seems very highly rated though, so maybe give it a shot if the blurb sounds like your kind of thing?!

Then this CRAZY book is for you!
3 Narrators, and a frenetic pace, which will work for you IF you ❤️ your psychological thrillers TWISTY and don’t mind if they are IMPLAUSIBLE!
It started out FUN, but It grew a bit tedious towards the end for me.
One reason-the style.
Character POV’s changing while still under the chapter heading of another, and written in the tense where it sounds as if one character is telling the story to another, instead of to the reader.
The other reason- one “twist” too many for me.
But, if there is no such thing as TOO many twists for you...pick this one NOW!

Wow...this book is absolutely, 100% certifiably insane, and I mean that in the best way possible!
I don’t want to give anything away, but it’s about Jade and her husband, Tomas, who have just recently moved into a new house next door to Emma, a dentist. One night over cocktails, Jade awkwardly confides in Emma and tells her that Tomas cheats on her with other women. It is not long before Jade believes Tomas and Emma are having an affair.
I think the less you know, the better. I was absolutely hooked by this juicy, twisted thrill ride! I audibly gasped at the direction the story turned at about 20%, and the twists continue from there. It’s a fun, unputdownable, fast-paced story just oozing with suspense and craziness! I absolutely enjoyed myself while reading it, and would recommend to anyone who can just enjoy the ride and not get caught up on things that would never happen in real life!

First I have to say that this is the fastest that I have ever read a book. I couldn’t put it down and I was so caught up in the storyline, before I knew it I had finished it!!
Jade and Tomas have just moved into their new home, when they invite the neighbours Emma and Alistair over for drinks .Jade confides with Emma that her husband has a roving eye. Before long she is is adamant that Tomas and Emma are having an affair.
Without giving anything away, this book becomes a run away train with so many twists that it made me dizzy. I read this on the edge of my sofa not knowing where this twisty, tension building story was going!!
What is there not to like? It has secrets galore and murder. My advise is to not read the blurb and just enjoy the crazy ride.
A must read book - I can’t stop talking about it to anyone I meet.

Wow, what a trip! I went into this one prepared to be baffled, intrigued, and disturbed in the best possible way and it completely blew my mind!
Amanda Robson gives us two sets of interesting neighbors and couples in Jade and Tomas and Emma and Alistair, laying the groundwork for a tornado of lies, paranoia, jealousy, and murder. Jade fears her husband's wandering eyes towards his beautiful blond neighbor Emma. A dangerous obsession to be sure...but who is obsessed with who? And who is the most dangerous neighbor of all?
Robson brilliantly incorporates several voices into the narrative, and keeps it driving with short, punchy sentences and quick chapters. She keeps you completely engrossed to the extent that the improbabilities of some situations no longer matter because it is such a FUN thriller to read, you won't care! The only voice that is missing from the narration is Tomas, which was a little bit disappointing since all of the other characters' voices were so unique (and sometimes disturbing!) to read. I also wish some of the flashbacks to the past would have had their own solid conclusion, but they definitely added some depth and clarity to the some of the character's motivations.
I can't think of a better escape right now if you're looking for a little bit (or a whole lot) of crazy in your psychological thrillers than this one! 4⭐️

This is a truly sick book. Which, of course, I mean as a compliment. This book was so unputdownable I missed my shower and was late for work, which is fortunately more acceptable in a quarantine.
This book is about two neighbor women, at least one of whom may be sick in the head. Jade believes her neighbor Emma is having an affair with Jade’s husband. Jade has a history of paranoia. But she can’t be dissuaded. So she hatches and executes a plan to make her husband sorry. And that’s just the first third of the book! There are about five twists after that, and each one is crazier than the next.
It’s true that this book is super wild and not very realistic. But it works. It’s totally thrilling, well plotted and every page is fun to read.
The one downside for me is that two of the four alternating narrators are written in the second person. (Eg: “I watch you walk across the room. You put down the wine glass.”) With two narrators and two “Yous” it is confusing at first to work out who is being talked about. But after awhile as you learn the different narrators’ voices, you get used to it.
If you’re looking for a great and accurate police procedural this is probably not the right book for you. It is definitely incredible at times. But if you’re looking for an unputdownable, twisty, fun thriller? You found it. I put two more of this author’s books on my TBR shelf already. I really enjoy her writing style.

I started it without previously reading the synopsis, so at the beginning I was a bit confused with all the different POV and the second person narrators, but I soon got hooked on the madness and forgot about it, as all three voices are clearly differentiated.

Jade and Tomas move into an expensive house in Henley-on-Thames. Next door lives dentist Emma who is in a relationship with Alastair. Jade observes her attractive neighbour through narrow eyes and with pursed lips. I don’t want to say anymore as it would ruin this insane, crazy train of a read which is impossible to put down. The story is told by Jade, Emma and Alastair.
It starts combative and becomes full on war with some of the characters engaging in varying forms of deadly combat. The storyline does contain domestic violence which is disturbing and some of what the abusers say makes for a sharp intake of breath and their actions are truly shocking. It explains the motivations of at least one character and so is an important part of the storytelling. So it’s dark, very twisty, then it gets darker and twistier still and you have no idea who will emerge the victor which makes for compulsive, gripping reading from start to finish. I have no idea forensically if sections of the plot-line are possible but even if its implausible I can’t say it bothers me as its breathtaking reading! None of the characters are especially likeable with the exception of Tomas but that’s what makes it more intriguing. I like the short, sharp sentence style as it matches the unfolding events.
Overall, if you like gritty, dark and twisty psychological thrillers then this is a must read. I’m definitely wanting to read more by Ananda Robson.

Jade invites Emma and her boyfriend Alastair over for neighborly drinks and immediately tells Emma know Tomas has a wandering eye. Why? Emma and Alastair are put off by this remark and are unsure what to make of it. Tomas is a very handsome man and Jade is rather masculine in her appearance but "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" so that is their business. Emma couldn't be more wrong. That visit and those strange words from Jade would set up this foursome on a nightmare of a ride into evil with danger and possible death encompassing almost everyone who comes into their path. Sometimes getting to know your neighbors can be a very very bad thing for you and for them.
What a wild rollercoaster ride this book was. The storyline and pacing were superb! All the characters were intense and interesting with many secrets in their backgrounds even though for me they were all unlikeable but that made the story even more fun (imo). This was my first book by Amanda Robson but certainly not my last. I will look forward to reading more of her clever plots and writing. I highly recommend this mystery to all readers who enjoy a dark, devious and tantalizing story.

I could not get into this book at all. I felt that the writing was choppy and the storyline wasn’t thrilling to me but just dreary. The characters were unlikable and I felt the author was trying too hard to shock the reader. I’m sure there will be a lot of readers who will enjoy this book but it definitely wasn’t for me.

'My Darling' is a thriller about two couples who live next door to each other. Jade and Tomas have recently moved in to the house next door to Emma and Alastair and it is not long before the fireworks begin to explode. Jade thinks that Tomas is making advances to Emma and their are lots of obsessions, lies, jealousy and ultimately murder.
This is one of those novels that will keep you reading on and on and convince yourself to read just one more chapter. Great characters and a twisty plot.

During dinner, Jade warns Emma to stay away from her husband as Thomas likes to cheat on her and Emma seems to be the kind of woman he likes. Suprised by Jade's strange behaviour, Emma confides this to Alastair.
This book has 2 parts and I can't reveal much about the book without giving the story away. It is a different domestic thriller and I liked how it concluded. However what fell flat was the character development. All the 4 characters were one dimensional and as thin as a paper. I couldn't get into the emotions felt by the characters.

I really don't know what to say about this book, it was twisted and full of drama which I love, but at the same time it went way over the top and really lost me. Amanda Robson has been a hit or miss author for me, the last one a hit so I was excited for this one. I enjoyed it but I didn't love it. I have seen so many great reviews so I feel that I am in the minority here.
2 couples, 4 messed up and crazy people. From the very beginning these characters were unlikeable and that did not change throughout the whole book. Murder, betrayal, revenge, jealously - it is all here.

This was my first Amanda Robson but it won't be my last. I was completely engrossed in this book from the first chapter on.
Writing a psychological thriller with just four main characters, set in the same location for most of the time, and still manage to grab the reader, is extremely difficult. Amanda Robson did it. It is difficult to tell more because the less said about this book the better, because it's hard to write about without spoilers.
You should read it for yourself!
Just as you think you know which way this story will go, it goes another way. The characters are extremely well developed and I just couldn't find a thing that I didn't like about this book.

Another absolutely brilliant psychological thriller from Amanda Robson! I've loved all of her previous 3 books and My Darling was no exception! The plot was fantastic, (so much murder!), the characters were well thought out and well structured, the twists and turns kept me gripped throughout, fantastic, would absolutely recommend!

Well, that was a super-sized serve of the crazy but it was just what I needed after a series of dark and bleak books. It had all the elements that we love in this sort of story:
. Unreliable narrators - check
. Lies and betrayals - check
. Secrets from the past - check
. Jealousy and paranoia - check
. Murder most foul - check.
Meet Emma and Alistair. Emma is a very well off dentist who also happens to be young and attractive. Alistair is her forensic pathologist boyfriend who spends the weekends with Emma and the weeknights with his mother and son in a modest flat. They have both been previously married and they are sooo much in love. Meet Jade and Tomas who move into the house next door to Emma’s. Jade is an academic, a professor of forensics, and Tomas is a hedge fund manager.
Jade invites Emma and Alistair over for a dinner party soon after the move. It turns out to be...awkward doesn’t begin to describe it. Jade is paranoid and is always thinking that Tomas is having an affair. Emma and Alistair refer to her as “the clusterf***”. Of course right now Jade is convinced that Tomas is having it off with Emma who she refers to as “the stereotype”. And so it begins - the ugly, the crazy and the downright weird and twisted.
Is it plausible or realistic - not a chance. Is it fun to read - hell yes! This book is junk food for the brain, and I pinched that expression from a friend but it is so apt for this story. And what’s more, there were no animals killed in its telling. It was a wonderful change of pace for me and I just loved it. Let’s get the negative out of the way, the title first, ‘My Darling’ is not what I would have chosen for this book, a bit lame and I think could be misrepresented if people are quickly looking for a new read and secondly the book is told ( mainly ) via 3 of the 4 main characters in short, snappy chapters BUT often the person telling the story in a chapter just changes almost mid sentence, this is hassling and its to the merit of the writing that I continued as could have been a deal breaker

My Darling by Amanda Robson is a very well written psychological thriller. It was certainly hard to put down and with a refreshingly different theme than I have been reading lately. It was told from three POV's: Emma's, Jade's, and Alistair's.
What I really liked about the book was that each character had distinct personalities, of whom you did not know from one minute to the next if they were a good guy or a villain. I liked that Jade's character was instantly recognizable as crazy asf from her introduction. I also enjoyed getting to learn something about forensic science, which is relied on heavily in the book.
Although there were many things I loved in the book, there were a few things that I did not. 1) Sometimes I was confused about who was narrating because the author, or the editor had left off the name heading when the POV changed. 2) The characters narrations were told in, first person? I think. Following is an example:
You sit down and place your elbows on the table, head cupped in your hands, still watching me. Tapered blue nails to match your dress tapping together as you watch. You have curled the ends of your hair and it looks prettier than ever this evening.
Overall, the negatives were outweighed by the positives in the book and I did find it a lot of fun to read. My head is still reeling because of all the twists and turns the plot took!
I would definitely recommend My Darling by Amanda Robson to most of my family and friends, as well as anyone else looking for a fast paced trip to crazy town! I really enjoyed this book!!!!
My Darling by Amanda Robson is a very well written psychological thriller. It was certainly hard to put down and with a refreshingly different theme than I have been reading lately. It was told from three POV's: Emma's, Jade's, and Alistair's.
What I really liked about the book was that each character had distinct personalities, of whom you did not know from one minute to the next if they were a good guy or a villain. I liked that Jade's character was instantly recognizable as crazy asf from her introduction. I also enjoyed getting to learn something about forensic science, which is relied on heavily in the book.
Although there were many things I loved in the book, there were a few things that I did not. 1) Sometimes I was confused about who was narrating because the author, or the editor had left off the name heading when the POV changed. 2) The characters narrations were told in, first person? I think. Following is an example:
You sit down and place your elbows on the table, head cupped in your hands, still watching me. Tapered blue nails to match your dress tapping together as you watch. You have curled the ends of your hair and it looks prettier than ever this evening.
Overall, the negatives were outweighed by the positives in the book and I did find it a lot of fun to read. My head is still reeling because of all the twists and turns the plot took!
I would definitely recommend My Darling by Amanda Robson to most of my family and friends, as well as anyone else looking for a fast paced trip to crazy town! I really enjoyed this book!!!!

Jade and Thomas Covington move into their new home and meet their new neighbours Emma and Alistair. Jade thinks her husband is having an affair with Emma. In a fit of rage, Jade murders him. Jade, Emma and Alistair all try and fit each other up as being the murderer.
This is a quick and easy book to read. It's filed with despicable characters. The story is told from Jade, Emma and Alistair'd points of view. They are all unreliable narrators. There's plenty of twists and the suspense builds throughout. There are parts that are unbelievable. There's quite a lot packed into the short snappy chapters. There's also a back story told inbetween these chapters. The pace flows along smoothly. I really quite enjoyed this book.
