As the pampered wife of Frankie Bingham, Camille wants for nothing. After all Frankie and their life together are her whole world. So Camille tries not to be bothered by his closeness with his coworker and dear friend Gillian. But it soon becomes clear that Camille's suspicions are correct. When his indiscretions become a public matter for the world Camille is pushed to a dangerous breaking point that spells disaster for them all.
Camille's sister Misa is newly divorced and clueless about men. She smothers men with phone calls, emails and pops up unannounced at their homes. She hacks into their voicemail and email and causes drama. So when she sets her sights on Baron, he has no idea what hit him. Will her quest to win his heart cost her everything?
Dominique Storms appears to have it all - a great career, a beautiful NYC condo and a gifted teenaged daughter. Her only problem is that the man she loves is incarcerated. While trying to juggle the demands of motherhood, work, and friendships, she manages to make her man Jamel a priority in her life. But is he doing the same? And is she too distracted to notice what is going on with her daughter?
Latoya Blake seems to be the one who has life all figured out, that is, until some skeletons are discovered in her closet. When her well-put-together façade crumbles, will she crumble as well?
This is my first book by Tracy Brown. I joined the "We Love to Read Book Club" on Facebook. They are reading Aftermath by Tracy Brown this month. I wanted to buy it, but then realized Snapped was the first book, so I bought both of them.
I am so glad that I was led to this book! Tracy Brown really did a great job building the characters and really giving them personality. There were quite a few characters and I was worried that I would get confused, but I didn't. You really have to pay attention when you are reading this book to keep everything straight, but that was one thing that I really liked about this book. It made me really think!
Camille really should have done more with Frankie, but he should have tried harder to involve her in his life too. Misa really seemed to take advantage of Camille by having her watch her son Shane all the time. It was nice of Camille to do that, but she really should have put her foot down and told her no once in a while. It really would have been good for Misa and may have prevented a lot of problems. Misa was really worrying too much about her love life when she should have been taking care of her son! Camille and Misa's mom finally let them have it and told them both what they should be doing. It's about time! What happened with Shane though at the end really surprised me.
I want to find out in the next book what happens with Dominique and Jamel. She was so good to him, and I really hope that things work out for them. People were putting her down for what she was doing for him because he is incarcerated, but have hope that he will come out and they will be together. What happened with her daughter Octavia really surprised me toward the end.
This book definitely was full of drama and was a page turner! The end definitely had me wondering what is going to happen in the next book, since I was left hanging at the end! I was sad that this book was done, but I am so glad that the story will continue in Aftermath! I highly recommend this book!
I listened to this on audio via Spotify. The narrator did a golf job with this book and I was hooked from page one. This book is so good ! The drama the characters were all believable. Definitely give this one a listen or a read.
This wasn't my favorite book by Tracy Brown. Mainly because I found Frankie to be a complete and total jerk! And it would be an understatement to say I hated Gillian. Ugh! I'm going to read Aftermath and hopefully I'll like that one better!
Four friends gathering weekly over drinks and dinner form the backdrop to the latest novel by Tracy Brown. These women develop a strong bond of friendship as they discuss life and their issues, mostly stemming from the men in their lives or lack of.
Camille has the life some women wish for. The wife of Frankie B, a well known and respected hustler, she wants for nothing. Her days are spent looking good, pampering herself and being the perfect wife. But while Camille is busy taking care of home, someone else may be taking care of Frank.
Camille's sister, Misa, wants that same good life. Now divorced and the mother of a young son, Misa is determined to catch the heart of Baron, Frankie's best friend, at any cost, so that she too will be living lovely.
Dominique has a wonderful and promising career. She has a gifted daughter. Adding a cherry to the top, she is in love. She's found the perfect man. However, that man is incarcerated.
Toya is I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T. Unlike her friends, Toya doesn't need a man, except for that good jugg. She's got another issue on her hands that won't seem to go away.
Having heard so much about Tracy Brown, I was looking forward to seeing what she was working with in her new release, "Snapped." Unfortunately, I was disappointed and not impressed. So what went wrong? First, the story is just okay. There was enough to hold my attention but not much more beyond that. Second, it was very typical and predictable with common characters. Of course everyone looked good, dressed in the best fashions and drove the best the automotive industry has to offer. Third, it was also very repetitive at times when information about characters was reintroduced. Further adding to my disappointment, Brown did what too many today are doing. She took the easy way out and left the ending open for a follow-up novel. I just want a COMPLETE story. Is that too much to ask for? The novelty of sequels is long gone!
"Snapped" suffers from mediocrity. And as a reader that is fed up and absolutely sick and tired of sequels, prequels, trilogies and series, I won't be back for book two.
I've been told that "White Lines" was really good. Maybe I'll give that book a try...
It's a great story!! Frankie was an a-hole, and Camille was in denial. Misha just didn't care about anyone but herself!! Most of the characters were selfish!! LaToya was my favorite!!! She didn't take any mess!! On to Aftermath to see how it all ends!!!
That ending pissed me off and literally had me on the edge of my seat. I did the audio so when it went to the credits I was like “oh hell naw.” 😭😭😭😭
The plot was very intriguing and kept me guessing as to what was going to happen next. There were so many surprises and things never went the way that I expected.
A lot of characters to keep up with and at first I got a little confused but once I got what everyone’s story was, I had it down pack. Some characters (cough, cough, Camille) was unbearable but overall this was a great read! Really enjoyed!
This is my first time reading a novel by Tracy Brown. A few things stood out to me. The first is that the majority of the adult female characters were described as having big jumbo butts. The author used different adjectives though to describe all the big butts. Another thing that stood out was the constant use of the word that starts with a b and rhymes with witch. CONSTANT use. Sometimes multiple times within the same page. Plenty of profanity is used throughout the novel. I am never going to be a fan of that. Snapped tells a pretty interesting story but there were things that confused me. Out of nowhere Camille was described as having a double chin. She wasn't described as chubby enough to all of sudden have 2 chins. Another thing that was super confusing to me was the Whitney character, Dominique's older sister. When the Whitney character was first mentioned she was like this big baller who was so powerful and connected that she could buy organs to save her dad's life. Then all of a sudden this same character was claiming poverty with absolutely no explanation. Out of nowhere she suddenly just had a basic job working for the IRS. It didn't make sense. This book has more than one scene where a woman is being sexually violated, one is tolerating the sexual abuse from her boyfriend. Be prepared, the book doesn't have an ending, it sets up book two. If you are so inclined.
Umm, so read this book because I have heard wonderful things about Tracy Brown--'White Lines' in particular but couldnt find that so decided to try out this two-part Snapped series, and liked it---didnt love it..So this story reminds me so much of The Cartel by Ashley and JaQuavis (see review) as it follows an impossibly attractive and powerful drug family and its impact on the four women of the novel. The Nobles family just isnt as cool as the Diamond family from the Cartel and the characters of Gillian and Baron just fall short..Okay so on to the storyline there are four women--Camille: married to Frankie Bingham a surrogate son of the Nobles family, Dominique: successful single mother with a teenage daughter dating an incarcerated man, Misa: Camille's sister and also a single mother intent on chasing dollar signs and all the wrong men and then there is Toya: street smart, sassy and seemingly all put together with secrets of her own..The story starts off as many Urban novels do (hey it is intriguing) with a glimpse of foreshadowing that eventually gets retold and expounded upon at the end of the novel and it honestly wasnt the most interesting plot in the book..My favorite character I will have to say was Dominique even though the jailbird boyfriend at her age and with her success was a no-no to me, but I like that she saw the potential and followed her heart..The book does give you drama and some great little side plots like Dominique's teen daughter and her struggle to be the girl her mother thinks she is and then Dominque's father sudden, tragic passing, and Misa and Baron's tumultous relationship--and there were also side plots I couldnt stand like the whole Frankie--Gillian situation, I hated Frankie and Gillian they were so weak and lame and I wished for their downfall LOL...Also I had a big problem with the cliffhanger plot with the whole shooting scene, I did not feel it was drawn out enough to even be believed and if that was the intent I think there could have been more backstory..I kinda felt that ruined the book, the hasty scene that was supposed to entice you to read the second book was a little weak..I will be reading Part Two: Aftermath but really to find our about Dominique's life...review coming soon..
Camille is living a charmed life. Even in a bad economy, Camille remains pampered and comfortable in her role as a housewife. Now a year older, Camille is ready to start a family. It seems the more she tries to make a family, the less time Frankie, her husband, is spending at home. Her girls start hinting that Camille may not be as happy as she thinks she is. The more she tries to ignore them, the more her insecurities rise as her husband seems to be spending more and more time with Gillian, his gorgeous best friend.
Marrying young, Misa finds herself divorced and on her own as she struggles to find the balance of motherhood and life. Envious of her sister’s expansive life, Misa’s desperation to snag her a new man is unfortunately the cause of her loneliness. But when the opportunity to hook-up with Baron Nobles, the man that all men wish they could be, she wastes no time doing whatever she has to in order to please him.
Latoya, the boisterous chick in the clique, isn’t the one looking for love, marriage and happily ever after. A success in her own right, she can afford anything that she wants. While trying to school her girls on their lives, something from her past starts to make itself seen.
A single mother, Dominique has worked her tail off to prevent being a statistic. Thanks to her endearing father, she was able to still live her dreams of attending college. Now the only problem is the man of her dreams is a convict. Dominique is patiently awaiting the day that they will be together. A little strict on her daughter, Octavia, Dominique is occupied with work and her relationship and can’t see that her baby is growing up.
Though this is the very first time I’ve read a book written by Tracy Brown, this is not the first time I’ve met these characters, read this story or encountered this plot. While there is plenty of drama, I’m unimpressed by the lack of ownership Brown brings to ‘Snapped,’ as it has been reduplicated and re-titled many times over. At 361 pages, readers will have to wait for the conclusion as the book ends with everything up in the air.
This book was a thrill ride from word go! I enjoyed it more than most of the books I have read. Although the copy that I got from the library was in poor condition and the smell made me wanna puke.
The characters were written in a way that you can understand almost instantly. Everyone knows a Toya, everyone knows a Misa. I loved it. Found myself entrenched in their lives feeling the ups and downs just as if I was part of the group.
I knew I had to read the sequel the minute I started reading this one. I felt sick as the drama unfolded in front of me asking myself the questions that Misa was asking herself. I found myself sympathizing with Camille and her situation as well.
Loved Toya and her interaction with Russell.
I even loved Old Man Nobles.
If your looking to get pulled into a story this is the book for you. Emotional Roller coaster from Page 1 ...
This is the third book I've read by this author. It was ok, not her best work. The storyline was a bit slow for me. Toya was my favorite character. She gave the book life. Camille was a woman who thought she had it all with Frankie. Frankie was a good provider, but spent much of his time in the streets handling "business" with his friend Jillian. Missa was a hot mess. Dominique and Missa needed to get a clue. This book was about the friendship and lives of these women. The intermingling of their lives was written well. The ending shocked me. I'll continue on with the series because I'm nosey.
I really enjoyed this book, I thought it was better than the Sequel (Aftermath). When you start reading this book you get a good summery of what each character is like. The book starts off slow, than picks up towards the end and when it feels like nothing is happening everything begins to implode. My favorite Character in this book was Camille she got picked on quite a bit in the novel and she learns a lot from her mistakes. The ending left you really surprised because it is something you never would have expected. Highly recommend.
It is 2:48 am, and I am mad at Tracy Brown. I couldn't even wait until tomorrow to finish this durn book cause it was durn good to me. But it left too many unanswered questions. If she don't hurry up and finish the sequel that had better be coming soon, I'm gonna lose it. That is all.
Interesting! It is different from what I normally read, but that's what I wanted! I can't wait to read the next one in the series! Personally, I could see this being a GREAT movie!
Another urban fiction series for the Quarantine Reads!
Snapped follows the life of four women: Camille, Camille’s sister Misa, Dominique, and Latoya. All of whom are connected by friendship and sisterhood, but each struggling with their own relationship with men in their life. Definite “Girlfriends” vibes with intense drama.
Camille, is the wife of Frankie Bingham and wants for nothing. Frankie is her whole life. She attempts to do everything to please him, yet refuses to acknowledge that she is losing her husband to Frankie’s coworker and childhood friend.
Misa is a newly divorced mother and looking for security in a relationship. After meeting an attractive man at her sister’s surprise birthday party, Misa constantly pawns off her 3-year old son to her sister to chase the "good life" with a man who doesn't seem to care about her.
Dominique has a successful career in the entertainment industry and has fallen in love with a man who is currently incarcerated. Dominique’s devotion and love for this man soon proves to overshadow parenting her teenage daughter.
Tell it like it is Latoya is not set on finding love and only entertains men for sex, yet a man from her past returns in her life trying to bring up unspoken secrets.
Snapped begins with the flash forward of a murder, and the entire time I read the book, I kept wondering who killed whom! Snapped is a fast-paced novel that has you relating to each character or saying you know someone like that. Personally, Toya was my favorite character as the others were a little too stuck on men for my liking. In the end, you are left with so many questions but I guess that’s why this is Part 1. I can't wait to read the sequel, Aftermath!
Tracy Brown is one of the reasons I still read street-lit/urban fiction. Where so many authors just don't have "it" - Brown does. She can turn a story into something that you just don't want to put down. I was hooked from page one and I liked the ending. I thought it would be different.....but I liked the ending as is. There are a few unanswered questions and that's something I don't like. What happened with Octavia? What was up with Dominque and her father? Even if there is a sequel (and I think there will be - side note- I wish she'd stay away from sequels and series, she's an author who doesn't need them) I wish the answers would have been in this book. But..... it didn't bother me enough to give this only four stars. I think if I had half stars I'd have gone with a 4.5 but it's more than a 4 star book for me. She one of the best and it's easily recognizable!
I am a big fan of Tracy Brown, and I must say I was very happy with this book. The ending left me hang on the edge of my seat! I felt running to the store and getting the sequel right away, which shows the excellence of the first book. This is a different type of tale for Tracy Brown, it started out slow for me but picked up and took off! I feel Tracy Brown has a fan base that would purchase her read just on the strength of her storytelling she left this book this wide open for a sequel that her her fans will love to come back and read.
Camille, Latoya, Misa, and Dominique have their own reasons for losing it and this felt like a good episode for Snapped, the TV show. I can't wait for the next book, this is a five star rating for me! Tracy Brown has written a story that is pleases her loyal fans.
The book is good, a little repetitive and a few chapters bore you. Some characters distraught you for example, Camille, shes so absurd chasing Frankie and making imaginations that "he loves her" and that their marriage is perfect. When clearly he's in love with Gillian. Towards the end of the book it gets really good. A lot of events happen all at once, each character has something crazy going on in their life. I immediately started reading Aftermath (pt.2) as soon as I was finished with Snapped. And I absolutely LOVE Toyas uppity attitude!
So, the story doesn't end & after reading 361 pages in 2 days, I'm a bit ticked off about that. The story is interesting nonetheless, I found the novel to be far more "realistic" than most urban lit novels - I'm sure the avid readers of street/urban lit can tell you that. This novel was a pleasure to read, like all of Brown's novels. I guess there's a part two & I definitely cannot wait for that book because I really want to know how Brown ends the narratives of the 4 women characters.
This is my third Tracy Brown book and I must say I'm still a fan. Although White Lines was my favorite (also read Twisted) this was a close second. I was however disappointed in the ending. I want to know what happened to the other characters now not have to read another book to know.
yeah I read this again I wasn't impressed again I didn't like it at all and it just didn't catch my interest so I'm like I said bless her as a person she has an attitude and it shows through her work so I don't support people who have attitudes especially those who have attitude and sh*tty books
This book is really interesting. It starts off kind of slow, but then gradually picks up. It honestly had me feeling distraught to be in the main characters position.
