An original board book featuring Narwhal and Jelly! The underwater duo explore bubbles in the world wide waters.
When Narwhal accidentally bursts Jelly's bubble with their tusk-tooth, Jelly is a little sad . . . until Narwhal shows him that there are lots of bubbles in the ocean! There are little-bitty bubbles and great big bubbles. There are bubbles up high and bubbles down low. There are bubbles that are pink and bubbles that stink. It's unbelieva-bubble!
Ben Clanton is the author/illustrator of the Narwhal and Jelly series as well as a number of other books as IT CAME IN THE MAIL, MO'S MUSTACHE, and TATER TALES. Our group has followed Narwhal and Jelly throughout the series as it has existed so far, and so we were excited to see new books on the horizon. Today we cracked this one open and finished it in short order. It truly is a picture book, and not a longer graphic book as the previous ones have been. But short or not, we were glad to be reunited with our buddies and learn new lessons. When friends are blowing bubbles, don't blow them out! If you do, say sorry and if it was bubbles blown, don't pout - just keep on having fun!
I don't read a lot of board books anymore but I really enjoy sharing this series with kids in the library. This one is very cute, a nice short book for beginning listeners.
This is a super cute board book featuring beloved characters Narwhal and Jelly. This would be a great pick for younger siblings of Narwhal & Jelly fans who want to copy what big sib is doing or to encourage older sibs to read to younger sibs. It's a short story, but with the same cute factor and energy that the comic books have.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. It will be released February 2, 2021, by Penguin Random House Canada.
Being a fan of Narwhal: Unicorn of the Sea, Super Narwhal and Jelly and the rest of the series, I'm super delighted to find that the incredi-bubble Narwhal and Jelly are now available in a format for younger readers! Through Narwhal and Jelly's adventure, we are reminded that while we might end up with a burst bubble, it's no trouble, the sea is full of bubbles! They come in unbelieva-bubble colours, sizes, shapes and smells. While the book isn't a rhyming text, there is one section that is pure delight. My oldest grandkids have started 'reading' the graphic versions of Narwhal and Jelly, but I'm pretty sure they will enjoy reading this with their younger siblings.
When Narwhal's tusk accidentally bursts Jelly's bubble, Jelly is sad. Narwhal, being a good friend takes Jelly around the ocean to show him all the other bubbles they can find. This is a very simple graphic novel style, board book. My 3 year old grandson loved the bubbles, the 5 year old loved the characters and the 7 year old loved that he could read this to his siblings. I was surprised to see all the different kinds of bubbles that Narwhal and Jelly discover in the ocean. It is a cute book with puns and humour. The illustrations are wonderful and certainly grab the eye. I have not read A Narwhal and Jelly book before, but understand that I need to check out the ones for older children for my oldest grandchild. Thanks to Netgalley for my copy of this book, the rating and opinions are my own.
I like this board book version much better than the early reader graphic novels. Instead of the tone which talks down to young readers, this one respects them. There is some attempt at adding age-appropriate concepts like color and position, but I would not call this a concept book as it is more of a narrative with humor than concept-exploration—just as this book contains rhyme, but is not a rhyming text. I assume the monochromatic color scheme is for affect. Spoiler content waring: This contains the suggestion of flatulence (tastefully)
I received an e-galley from Penguin Random House Canada in exchange for an honest review.
Bubbles bubbles bubbles. I was enraptured by all the different kinds of bubbles that Narwhal and Jelly discover in this board book. It’s absolutely adorable and hilarious, which is expected from these two marine best friends created by Ben Clinton. I will definitely be buying this series of board books for all the babies and toddlers in my family and friends group!
Jelly finds a bubble, but when Jelly shows it to Narwhal, Narwhal accidentally pops it. Jelly is heartbroken until Narwhal starts pointing out all the other bubbles there are in the sea.
This is a little bit of an opposites book with bubbles that are big and small, up high and down low, etc. Narwhal and Jelly are always an adorable duo to hang out with, and who doesn't love bubbles?! A sure win with littles.
This was the very first Narwhal and Jelly book that I read to my child, and it is an adorable little story about friendship. It’s beautifully written, and the story just rolls off your tongue. We have the board book version I appreciate all of the little embellishments in the illustrations, ie some of the bubbles are of a different texture and iridescent, which makes reading the book even more fun.
I requested and received this book from Ben Clanton and Penguin Random House Canada through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was a super cute book about BUBBLES. This would make a great gift for little ones with a bottle of bubbles. You could read this book and make and pop bubbles along with Narwhal and Jelly. I wish I had someone little enough in my life to gift this too.
I love Ben's Narwhal books SO MUCH! In this one, Narwhal and Jelly discover different kinds of bubbles. There are numerous ways that a parent can interact with their child while reading this. For example, pointing out the shapes, tracing the shapes, counting, talking about the differences. The humor is entertaining to me as an adult as well.
Jelly shows Narwhal a great thing he found- a bubble!, Unfortunately, Narwhal accidentally pops the bubble with his tusk, making Jelly sad. Narwhal shows Jelly all the interesting bubbles to be found in the ocean, and soon Jelly is in good spirits again. The text is partially rhyme-y and full of puns, and the illustrations, as always, are delightful!
This is a very simple book, but I actually feel like it deals with some complicated feelings in a nice way. (?!) And the dialogue is really cute and fun to read aloud. My kiddo laughed and giggled the first read through and it is his current favorite. Looking forward to more Narwhal and Jelly books!
Large format board book with Narwhal and Jelly. Narwhal's horn accidentally bursts Jelly's bubble. Narwhat says sorry and shows Jelly lots of other bubbles. Rhyming text, some plays on words (incredi-bubble), a little bit of bathroom humor (stinky farts).
Jelly is blowing bubbles...when Narwhal accidentally pops one of them! Jelly is sad, so Narwhal quickly shows Jelly all of the many, varying bubbles in the water!
A cute board book inspired by the Narwhal and Jelly series. A good choice to share one-on-one that involves opposites.
This was a cute, enjoyable book. It was fun practicing colors (because the bubbles are different colors), so there is an educational element to this book.
This is good for younger kids, especially to help teach early colors.
Another installment of the notorious "Narwhal and Jelly" duo for the earliest of readers/listeners; not as clever/imaginative as “Blankie,” but still smile-worthy
Clanton Clans #9 Narwhal & Jelly Board Books #1 Narwhal & Jelly for even younger readers is well pretty average with not that much in it to be honest, certainly missing any wit from the longer books.
This book is perfect for toddlers. I was able to read it aloud to ages 2-4 years of age. We learned there are different types of bubbles (some come from a toot in the water!) The illustrations are cute with easy-to-read font and sentences.
This book doesn’t carry its rhymes and cadence all the way through, but it does not matter. It is still a cute story for both fans and novices to Narwhal and Jelly.
