I chose this book thinking it was a self-help guide on learning to pray. What I discovered is a memoir by Cindy Mercer highlighting her testimony on intercessory prayer. Cindy writes frankly about the struggles in her marriage, the addictions of her husband, and the personalized prayers and scriptural references in this memoir. Her testimony is at times raw, filled with failures, but growing in hope and faith. Through intercessory prayer, we witness the loving, merciful power of God through his Holy Spirit to change not only who is prayed for but also changing the person praying. By reading this book, I could feel Cindy's emotional pain and her joyful response to God's answers to her prayers. Cindy's faith increased exponentially, and that same faith was tested at every turn in her marriage and life. I highly recommend this book for spiritual growth in hope and faith, intercessory prayer, and to open your eyes to just how much more God can do in your prayer life.
