Live from a place of abundant peace in the midst of life's everyday worries and stress with #1 New York Times bestselling author and Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen.
The opposite of peace is worry and stress. Both are thieves that rob you of your sleep, joy, creativity, and good decisions. If you allow them into your mind, they can even keep you from your destiny. But if you learn how to change your automatic responses to these struggles and give your problems to God, He can go to work in your life.
If you're tired of living in tension and anxiety, then it's time to change. In Peaceful on Purpose, you will discover that you weren't designed to carry the heavy load yourself: step back to let God step in. Find peace so that you can stop worrying about your health, job, finances, or relationships.
Life may be chaotic all around you, but you can live grounded in a calm spirit by drawing on scriptural examples and Joel's insightful personal experiences to find fulfillment. Learn how to give it to God so that He can exceed your expectations.

Are you feeling stressed? Worried? Fearful? Frustrated? I recommend reading PEACEFUL ON PURPOSE: The Power to Remain Calm, Strong, and Confident in Every Season.
Using personal stories, biblical events, and scripture, Joel Osteen explains six steps to a peaceful life. Near the end of the book are discussion questions for each chapter.
Some of my favourite quotes:
"When you have this "all is well" attitude, the Creator of the universe will make things happen that you could never make happen."
"Your happiness is not someone else's responsibility. You are responsible for your own happiness."
"Negative talk is like bait. It attracts the enemy."
"The Most High God is the Guardian of your soul.… Live from a place of peace, a place of faith, knowing that your Guardian God is watching over you."
"Amazing things happen when you stay in faith and trust God."
"God knows what you need, when you need it, and how to get it to you."
The future is bright. Our best days are still in front of us. All is well. 4 stars
I can still remember the first time I saw Joel Osteen speak and how afterwards I had a smile on my face, I felt happy, at peace and I looked forward to listening to him again. I have enjoyed every book I have read by him and this book was no different. This book is a good reminder of why we should not live with worry and fear and why we should seek out peace for a healthier and happier life. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Living with a worldwide pandemic for the last year has been stressful for everyone. But just a small change in our mindset can make a world of difference.
In Peaceful on Purpose, Joel Osteen reveals personal stories, some touching, others witty, but they all stimulate and uplift the heart. I felt encouragement and inspiration from every chapter. Especially chapter one: All is well. And I always enjoy when a book includes room for notes, and this one offers the last twelve pages for journaling.
I choose a focus word each year to keep me observant of my thought process. When things don’t go as planned, or life gets topsy turvy, it’s nice to have a focus word that gets your thoughts back on track. I chose the word positivity back in January, which pretty much parallels the perspective of this book.
Full disclosure: I'm not a Joel Osteen fan or a fan of "superchurches" in general. I was interested in this book because I was interested in "secrets of a stress-free and productive life" anyway. I'm willing to take good advice from anyone who offers it. I suspect that fans of Osteen will love it, but I didn't find anything useful in it. It's a very short book with central themes that are repeated over and over. The main one is "all is well" no matter how awful things seem, and that everything is part of God's plan. Osteen uses the example of the mother whose only child died but she kept telling people "all is well" and after praying with Elisha he was brought back to life because she never doubted he would be. He also says that if things don't turn out or someone dies, that was always part of God's plan anyway. Another central theme is to "take a seat" with the basic idea being if you're too much in charge of your own life then God won't be.
One of the biggest issues I had with the book was the lack of action recommended. Osteen gives an analogy early on that life's problems are weeds and he says that he has learned that weeds always pop up before the harvest. Then he says he tells people not to harvest (or pull) the weeds and leave that to God. As a gardener, I just couldn't get past what terrible advice this is for weeds. As someone who has done a lot to make a beautiful life in spite of some big tragedies, I couldn't see this as good advice for problems for dealing with problems either. It reminds me of the man whose house is flooded and every time a boat shows up to rescue him he says "no thanks, God will take care of me" and then when he dies and asks God why he didn't help him, God says "I kept sending you boats." Pull the weeds, treat the cancer, make good changes. Sure, pray and have faith, but also get in the boat.
I can see how this would be a very reassuring book for many people. It is nice to think that you don't need to do anything but continue to be a good person and have faith. It wasn't a great fit for me. If you are an Osteen fan and just want someone to reassure you that everything is going to be okay, this will be a great book.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.
I've read a number of Osteen's books, and I always enjoy them and find tidbits of valuable information in them. This one was no exception.
The timing of this book is perfect! After the past year, I, like many others, have had an increase in my stress levels, and I've been looking for ways to decrease that stress and find more peace each day. Osteen provides many reminders of why we should not live with worry and fear mindset.
While this book is shorter than many of his other books, it's still full of wonderful truths. Biblical stories, as well as personal ones, are woven throughout. I like how there are study guide questions for each chapter at the end of the book.
Some of my favorite quotes:
- "Sometimes when you face challenges, it's not because you're doing something wrong, but because you're doing something right." - "Your happiness is not someone else's responsibility. You are responsible for your own happiness." - "Negative talk is like bait. It attracts the enemy."
My favorite chapters are All Is Well and God's Got This.
If you're looking for a bit of positivity, this is a good book to check out.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy, but I wasn't required to leave a positive review.
I have many of Pastor Joel's books. Several of his latest titles were deemed my favorite. But, when I started reading Peaceful on Purpose, it easily became my all-time favorite!
This book is a short, powerful reminder that you can be at peace no matter what life throws you. I loved it! Even if you're having a good day, it’s a great faith builder and positive way to begin any day. It’s such a wonderful, daily reminder that God’s in control and on the throne!
The style is bold, insightful, and uplifting. After reading this book, you'll find yourself saying, "All is well" when little things come and try to steal your joy. It's definitely a book you'd want to read again and again!
Bestselling author and pastor Joel Osteen gives readers six keys for how to be peaceful on purpose: All Is Well, Protect Your Peace, The Guardian of Your Soul, Peace Within Yourself, God’s Got This and It’s Already Been Set Up—are the titles of the chapters. This short book combines personal stories with teaching from the Bible to give you the step-by-step practical insights you can apply to everyday life.
For example, Osteen writes, “Sometimes you have to announce that ‘All is well,’ not just so you can hear it, not just so God can hear it, but so the enemy can hear it.’” (Page 14) I highly recommend PEACEFUL ON PURPOSE.
This is my third Joel Osteen book and as usual he delivers a message of hope and inspiration. I find his books so helpful, so I honestly don't think there'll ever be a day where I rate Osteen's books anything less than three stars. One thing that I especially liked about this book were the discussion questions at the end, something that wasn't included in the previous two books that I read by Osteen, because it allowed me to delve deeper into the messages being conveyed. Overall, this was an uplifting read.
I have read many Joel Olsteen books lately. This is far by the best one!! I have anxiety and this just reached into my heart and helped me so much. It's a book that you can read slowly, a chapter a week, or you can read the whole thing, highlighting all of the things to come back and read when you need a pick me up. I would recommend this book to anyone who is struggling and needs a little help.
A legitimate attempt to shift age old guilt based organized religion towards hope based belief in God.
There are many relevant hope based stories to reinforce this theme. This book excels in its well written presentation of old testament literature to craft hope centric arguments.
A well edited book that consecutively advances its message of God's forgiveness and love.
We need more preachers like Joel. He has a gift to increase your faith and make you remember the promises of God, regardless of your circumstances. “Amazing things happen when you stay in faith and trust God.”
It was very informative and helpful giving you comprehensive methods to achieve peacefulness. He used antidotes and life examples to clarify how you can accomplish this and the benefits of doing so. Joel is an excellent teacher and Pastor. His storytelling style makes for a great book!
Not an author I usually read but the title Peaceful on Purpose called me. I am surprised how much I enjoyed this wisdom, to remember that “God’s got this”, and to let go of people or situations that don’t allow you to rest. Good advice.
Easy to read and encourages one on how to live and to choose to live in peace. Includes scriptures throughout the 6 short chapters. Followed by questions for group discussions and acknowledgements.
This was an enjoyable and helpful book to read. Joel Osteen offers some good advice on how to stop worrying about everything and being hard on myself. He gives scriptures from the Bible. Writes of different characters in the Bible and how God helped them. I enjoyed this book and will try and use the advice offered.
In Peaceful on Purpose, Joel Osteen has written a brand-new book on assisting readers in dealing with conflict and how to live in peace, no matter what you may face. He begins the book by explaining how we can live in a mindset of all is well. Even when we are faced with difficult challenges, sickness, business failures, friend betrays us, handling the after effects of the pandemic, marriage struggles, and any other challenges. Joel explained how we can learn to replace our worries with all is well and how this is showing us how to place our trust in God. He looked at the story of the three Hebrew teenagers, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and how they were able to be thrown in to the fiery furnace because they refused to worship and bow down to a golden idol. They could have decided to complain and feel sorry for themselves. Instead, they believed that God will deliver them and protect them. When the king looked into the fiery furnace, he saw four men walking around unharmed. This is when the king realized one of the four men was the Son of God. Joel reminded readers that even though they were walking around and doing the right thing and following God. They still faced opposition and challenges.
He also opened up about how in his own life how he handled his father dying from a heart attack. He shared how he didn’t know how the church would go on and what all would happen. Joel learned this principle and how he had to believe in faith and remember that God is in control. He shared how you can turn negative thoughts around and to not focus on the what ifs in life.
I would recommend this awesome to anyone who is ready to live in peace and to handle difficult challenges that we will face in life. I immensely loved the hopeful attitude that Joel has and how he trained himself with God’s help in living a positive lifestyle. One of my favorite things, he taught was how to carry your spare tire in life. He used this teaching to remind readers to always carry their spare tire and be prepared in life. Many of us carry one of our cars but we fail to be ready to deal with the challenges that life throws at us. Joel shared how we need to make a provision in case things don’t go our way. He explained how we need to make important decisions ahead of time that we won’t get offended, get upset, and get sour. He shared how we can remain in peace and keep moving forward. I also liked how he stressed the criticalness of being in control of our own happiness and not to focus on being responsible for others and their happiness. I believe in readers would follow the principles found in this book, it would help them to live in peace and to live their life to the fullest.
"I received this book free from the publisher, Hachette Book Group/Faithwords for my honest review.”
The latest release by Pastor Joel Osteen of Lakewood Church is a purposeful approach to living at peace while navigating life’s pressures. Through scripture, anecdotes and words of wisdom, Joel lends sound advice on avoiding common pitfalls many people face. The book is divided into six chapters with accompanying study guide questions. Tapping into peace and the power to remain calm will not only keep you from experiencing negativity, but also it will help you move forward. The key is to guard your heart and get good at ignoring those who aim to steal your peace. What I like best about this book is Joel’s ability to offer valuable tips on staying in faith no matter what challenges you might face in life. Brighter days are ahead because the guardian of your soul is shielding you. Keep moving forward and God will bring you out stronger and better. Most importantly, the good breaks and the right people will be in your path because God has already set it up. If you have the right attitude, all will be well in your life. Peaceful on Purpose: The Power to Remain Calm, Strong, and Confident in Every Season by Joel Osteen Publisher: FaithWords Genre: Christian Release Date: May 18, 2021
Peaceful on Purpose: The Power to Remain Calm, Strong, and Confident in Every Season by Joel Osteen is the book I needed today!
First off, I love how when I read a Joel Osteen book, I can hear him reading it to me. His writing style is so familiar and comforting.
Second, the timing of this book is incredible! I read this book on the day my water came back on after 4 days without (& 3 days without power), due to the crazy Texas snow-pocalypse. Also, tomorrow I'm hopping on a plane to go home for surgery. To say, my stress level has been pretty high would be an understatement. This book served as an incredible reminder that 'All is well' and to preserve my peace.
This book is filled with such great advice. I laughed at parts ("Hello, weed."), I felt nudges at parts that I was really supposed to listen to, and when I finished reading it, I felt lighter.
I'm so grateful to Joel Osteen, FaithWords, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.
What an absolute blessing this book has been in my life ! Joel's words never disappoint. Very highly recommended ! Will be gifting this book to others for a long time to come. Inspiring and empowering !
As a Christian this book reminded me of Who I belong to. It was an easy enough read to finish in one sitting, but I will probably go back and read it more slowly the second time so I can thoroughly absorb the truths. I think it is important to mention that no person is ever going to have a stress free life, no matter what your beliefs are, and if you are expecting this book to tell you that, to be the magic key to unlocking your peace, you will not be satisfied at the end. If, however; you understand what Jesus was saying in John 16:33 when "He said in this world you will have trouble," and you are like me and just need reminders of the God you serve, then I suggest this book to you. And when you close the last page may you take comfort in knowing that Christ has overcome this world.
A beautifully encouraging reminder of how important it is to hold onto our peace and trust in Him. Nothing is impossible for Him and there’s nothing he isn’t aware of either. In this current world being purposefully at peace is hard, but I encourage you to invite Him in and keep this book close as an added reminder of His goodness.
"Peaceful on Purpose" by Joel Osteen is a collection of God's Promises!! Reading God's Word helps you understand and deal with worry, fear and stress!! This book gives you a sense of GOD'S PEACE and COMFORT!! I can see going back and rereading this book again and again!! LOVED EVERYTHING about this book!!! 🙏
I think this is good if you need a Christian, Bible-focused pep talk. But this is not a book that actually tells you how to have more peace outside of changing the way we think. That's not practical and it's not useful for people with anxiety or deep fears they need to address.
Very short book. New perspectives, stories and scripture references while staying true to Joel’s style of writing. This book would make a nice gift for anyone who needs some encouragement.
