Zombie Fallout #14

The Trembling Path

Rate this book
Control of Etna Station is balanced on a knife’s edge. A daring mission to rescue a hostage will shake the foundations of the already crumbling command structure, making way for enemies to emerge from outside, and from within. Dewey, the advanced zombies, begins to assert his dominance and reveals his ploy to master all humankind, while Vivian Deneaux shows her hand, rigging the complex to blow if she’s not given the keys to the city.

Alliances will be strained and loyalties tested as lines drawn in the sand become blurred and must be remade. Events are set in motion that will forever alter the course of the base and the lives of its inhabitants. It’s a race for control, and with Mike and his company stuck in jail, they are quickly losing precious ground and must discover who their true allies are. Can the base be saved, or will the human oasis amid the sea of death finally succumb to evil and corruption?

The trek through Zombie and human mayhem continues with book fourteen, The Trembling Path..

True to form, Mrs. Deneaux is up to her usual manipulative villainess antics. The ceaseless and (most often) hilarious provocations between Talbot and herself are always a highlight for me.

Dewey is exerting himself as well, and the pressures Mike, B.T., Tommy, and the gang find themselves up against reveals disloyalties and their resilience is tested like never before.

The ending was intense and left a lot of loose ends, and I am looking forward to finding out what happens in the next episode (Zombie Fallout, #15).

As always, Mr. Sean Runnette did an amazing job as narrator and has been a joy to listen to throughout the entirety of this series.

Fun

I loved this installment to the series. As usual Mark Tufo has written a winner. There is lots of action and more than a few laughs. I can't wait for the next one.

Warning huge spoiler alert!

Okay so the story develops quite a lot. Mike’s crew gets more of a mention with Kirby and Rose and their characters developing in this book. Mike’s old friend mentioned for the first time in the epilogue of the previous book called Charlie starts off this book and he is outside the base ready to help Mike but we never hear from him again after the first chapter so that is left in limbo creating some serious interest.

Dewey Is becoming more impressive in this book controlling the horde with a huge attack on the base and has developed his powers able to also control birds and use them to crash and Apache helicopter and even manage to very briefly control a tank.

Mike does kill him and Deneaux continues to be a major thorn in the group side. Mike finally has her in custody in handcuffs locked up and strapped to a bomb when things yet again take another turn causing him to have to reassess his relationship with her and the possible need to again form an alliance...

What did I just listen to?! I was so excited that at least one of the authors I read series from are using this quarantine time to write. To get another book so fast from Mark was nice. But boy was I disappointed.

This was 11 hours of the same thing over and over. The story did not advance. This felt more like a filler book. Now I want anyone who is reading this to know I have read ALL the books that have to do with this timeline. So I know how it all ends. I honestly just keep reading because I want to know what is going to happen with Adeline. So I know he has 1 filler book and then the next one is amazing. I would just like it for he would say that and I wouldn't have to pay almost $30 for a book that just repeats Mike saying he is going to kill Vivian and not EVER DOING IT!

It's eye rolling all the BS he talks because we know he isn't going to follow through with anything he says because of his emotions...aka weak! Just my own personal opinion.

Thankfully I have audible so I am requesting a refund. I feel like these rating he gets are from hardcore fans who are just settling at this point for anything instead of demanding good quality work we were used to.

Somewhat unbelievably, Etna Station is still standing in the epicenter of a REAL bad time. Mike and Co are perpetually in reaction mode, Deneaux is doing evil stuff, Col Bennington is showing some terrible decision making skills, and zombies are being their awful selves. With the base pretty much rigged to blow due to bombs, IEDs and / or a Nuclear bomb, the entire book is pretty tense to say the least.

Mike continues to degrade as he struggles with the weight of the choices he must make to destroy the one for the many; civilians for his family. He has at least 2 breakdowns which are pretty sad but unsurprising considering how terrible things are. More bad is coming, the foreshadowing is so obviously looming I hate to think what is coming.

The titles are generally said in the book and this time, the point in which the statement "The Trembling Path," is a pretty dramatic point.

For the series, it is a great entry. A few books ago I became disenchanted with the fact that Mike basically has no superpowers anymore. There was a huge deal made about it and it formed an interesting storyline. But those powers were ignored and continue to be up to this recent book (even Tommy’s powers are down played but he still uses them; also, if he is a true vampire why is there never any stories of him feeding).. But if you can get past that and see Mike is a normal guy the stories are classic zombie fall out. So 5 stars and living with the fact there is a plot line disconnect.

Outstanding! I think this is my favorite Z.F. from the past few books. Peak Tufo at his Mike Talbot-materializing self. This reminded me of the old days of listening to Sean Runnette read Zombie Fallouts and me just cracking up laughing at Mike's antics. Also very dissapointed that I can't just start the next book in the series now. He really set it up for a good second half to this particular chapter in the saga.

The plot thickens

The secrets and intrigue never stop with that chain smoking mummified pathological deceitful scum of the earth Deneux around....but the half the story for Mike is the adversity he has with that battle ax isn't it? Once i start reading one of these books i can't stop and when that final sentence is read i feel like a crack head gone cold turkey who needs their next fix.

I love this genre and Mark Tufo is the best at it. Even if your aren't a fan of horror or zombies, you may want to consider this author. I read most of this book on breaks at work and slipped a little in during and made people wonder what I was laughing at. Thrilling, suspenseful, scary, funny, sad, and triumphantly satisfying. I wish everyone could appreciate Mark's writing as much as so many of his fans do.

Mark Tufo does it again. This book had so much going on that by time it was done I forgot where it even started. How mark can write so much and make you feel so hard it beyond me. I really want to see Denaux or how ever you spell her name to die, I mean shit that woman is chaos galore. How they’re going to get out of this situation is beyond me but I know mark will write some good shit and get it done. I just hope we don’t loose some good characters along the way.

I loved this book in the on going saga of Zombie Fallout. This story had more action in it, both with zombies and humans. I also love the "espionage" and mystery of figuring out what is going on within their own backyard. I can wait till the next installment and looks like I only have to wait 2-3 short months. :)

Love this series.

If you like dry humor, satire, and clever repartee (oh, and zombies) this series is a lot of fun. It gets serious, too, but Mr. Tufo just has a way with his dialogue and story line that is just a lot of fun. And it makes you think about the human race and it’s foibles and faults. I have now read 15 of the books and I can’t wait for the next one. Have fun!

Another great installment to the zombie fallout series! Witty and dark at the same time. I love how you never know which direction any chapter will go in or what Mike will say/think in any of his near-death experiences. I look forward to reading the next one. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys zombies and comedy.

I love this series!

Mark, I don’t know where your mind went to come up with a character like Mike Talbot…but I sure am glad it did. The things you have him say and do…the situations you have him in, not to mention poor Tracey and BT, always saving him from himself.
I’m not sure where you’re going with this tale, but I’m here for the long haul!

Navy SEALs do not have USMC ranks. They are sailors and have Navy ranks....That irks me but not enough to lower my review a star. Crayon eaters don't know what they don't know I guess! I would expect a guy that served to know better. Probably should have called the Force Recon or Raiders to continue the Jarhead Love Fest!

Perfection

I wondered what new interesting twists would be added! I was not disappointed!! That old hag, I swear I've never wanted to reach in and strangle a character so much! I really kept hoping she would try to move, because boom!!

Another awesome romp

Tufo never fails to entertain our apocalypse with humor desires. I know one day the story will ultimately end but every time you get near the end of the book there is a certain sorrow because you know the friends you are reading will be gone for awhile.

Michael Talbot is one of my favorite characters of ALL time and the guy who narrates these books and gives life to Michael Talbot is a gem! I love him more than Michael Talbot because HE IS MICHAEL TALBOT! Mark Tufo, please never stop Mike's story.

Of all the things they can be discussing during a zombie apocalypse- it’s beauty tips make vs female. I have never laughed so hard in my life. I love their dynamic so much.

It was a bit rambling and not much of significance happened in the book. Other than taking us back to the universe of Zombie Fallout, it wasn't the greatest passage in the series.
