REMI Every Friday night, he sits in the corner of the bar, eyeing me over a glass of whiskey as I play piano on stage. We’ve never said a word to each other, yet I feel… something. An attraction unlike any other.
Then one night he finally approaches me.
He’s nothing but a playboy who wants to add me to his list of conquests. I can’t give in to him. Getting involved with someone like Jay would only end in heartbreak, and I’ve had my heart broken too many times before.
JAY With the snap of my fingers, I could have any man on his knees… but not Remi. He’s different. Instead of falling for my charms, he calls me out on them. We clash like fire and ice, but I can’t get him out of my head.
Too bad I don’t do relationships.
But there’s something about the handsome musician with the most soulful eyes I’ve ever seen that makes me wonder if, maybe, love is in the cards for me after all.
*His Surrender is Book 2 in the Unexpected Love series from Jaclyn Osborn. No cheating. HEA guaranteed. Please use the 'Look Inside' feature for possible trigger warnings*
As an avid reader and coffee addict, Jaclyn Osborn can always be found with either a book in her hand or one being written on her laptop. The men in her stories mean the world to her, and she's thankful for each day she's able to do this as a career. She writes M/M romance across all genres and worlds, including contemporary, historical, fantasy, and paranormal.
This author doesn’t write regular stories, there are always different dimensions to discover. Jay is so much more than the cocky playboy he shows. Remi can’t get him out of his head. The only thing Jay wants is to fuck and on to the next one. Remi refuses to be the next fuck and turns him down, his heart is more than once broken by similar guys. But the attraction between them can’t be denied. Jay isn’t what he shows the world. Cocky, only interested in sex. He’s anxious to open his heart again. When the reason for his fear is revealed, bit by bit, it’s quite heartbreaking. Remi is just the warmest and sweetest guy and head over heels. They start something, no commitment, no relationship, just friendship with some nice sexy benefits. Until Remi can’t anymore, it hurts too much.
Jeeezzz what an amazing story lies behind this title. Two warm, kind, vulnerable, and hurt guys. Together they have very intense moments, funny times but also hurtful. Their family and work environments are just fine decent side stories. Wonderfully and captivatingly written! Overall a narrative that touched my heart at every level.
A very heart warming story about a man daring to open his heart again. I had looked forward to Jay's book while reading His Temptation, and I recommend that (even though this book is standalone), because then you see an even bigger transformation in Jay.
He and Remi seem really good together, and I liked Remi well enough, but it was definitely Jay's tough exterior cracking (And Jay's relationship with his brother Ivan and nephew Foster) that made the book for me.
This novel started super slow but picked up a comfortable speed after a few chapters. The story overall felt like someone running their hand through your hair; very soothing. I definitely enjoyed that we got to see what happens when they got together and how they dealt with disagreements so it was a nice glimpse into their future.
it didn't work for me. Ok. It's not story it's me. I really hate Mc had an affair with married man and abusive relationship in the past. I don't pity for cheater and it seemed that Jay didn't get over ex until the very end. or ever. I hated it more. of course I wanted to kill andrew..I wished Remi would found another man.
I'm always conflicted on the whole "promiscuous person is promiscuous because of past heartbreak" trope but the execution in this works for me because there's more to Jay's past than just a bad break-up, and it makes his aversion to commitment more understandable.
4.5 Stars! His Surrender by Jaclyn Osborn just made me smile!! I first met Jay Foley in his best friend Emery's book, His Temptation. (I recommend reading that one first.)
From the moment, I met Jay, it was kismet between us! His arrogant ass got under my skin and I needed more!! I seem to always go for men who are bad for me.... You see, Jay is the epitome of a playboy. He's a "one and done" type of guy. He's been called a bastard, heartbreaker, asshole... The list goes on and on. Jay may be some of those things, but he has never lied about what he wants or what he's willing to offer. If you want great, no strings attached sex, he is your man. If you are looking for hearts and flowers move on.... Jay is extremely cocky. Like over the top! Think I'm sexy and I know it. He had me shaking my head at the things that came out of his mouth. Even with his over zealous machismo, I knew there was something beyond his act. I saw glimpses of the real Jay. The one who was hurt beyond repair! His cockiness comes from everyone throwing themselves at him. Well, almost everyone....
Remi Barnett is a sweet music teacher by day and a talented piano player by night. Jay is a frequent, where Remi plays nightly at a local jazz club. They continually exchange heated glances and have a mutual attaction, but Remi knows the type of man Jay is. A player. Someone he can't afford to close to. He's fallen for the wrong guy too many times before. So, when Jay puts on his charm, Remi is hesitant but intrigued. Two can play this game... Remi's whole persona has Jay's attention and not just in the sheets. Remi's light and beautiful soul calls out to Jay. While Remi sees beyond Jay's perfectly constructed wall. He knows there is more to Jay then meets the eye. Both guys have been hurt badly in the past.... Jay's past has closed him off, while Remi's has made him crave love. What starts off hot and heavy, slowly turns emotional and tender. Jay and Remi's scars run deep. Can they get over their pasts and move towards a future?
In my opinion, there is nothing better then when the player falls for the unassuming nice guy! This is the perfect reformed asshole story.
Jay's divorced brother Ivan's story is up next. He is ex military and a wonderful father of a 14 year old boy. His sex/love life is a mystery, I can not wait to see it unfold..... I am loving this series! All the guys are wonderul in their own way.
**4.5** This is a great follow up to book one, so happy to read Jay's HEA. Jay is very much a playboy, a one and done type, at least until Remi. The story starts with a little bit of cat and mouse as they dance around each other and the clear attraction that they both have for each other. Both men are hurting and recovering from past hurts with neither of them expecting the depth of connection and feelings that develop between them whereas the attraction was easy and off the charts. My heart hurt for Jay as he slowly reveals parts of himself to Remi, something he never thought he'd do again after recovering and setting his life up in such a way as to never be hurt again. Remi is a softer character to Jay's harder edges but it doesn't make him any less strong. He's willing to take a chance and see what is possible between the two men. There's definitely a few bumps in the road for them, mostly caused by Jay but their romance is really heartwarming to read as both men deserve the love that they have together. I loved getting to hear from Emery and Cason (book 1) and Jay's family are amazingly supportive, especially his brother, Ivan, and nephew, Foster, who is actually in Remi's music class. The Russian that Jay and his family speak adds a certain something to the story, especially in the loving/intimate moments between Jay and Remi, and with the two brothers who are now living in the same city again after several years apart. Definitely a recommended read! I loved this story with how the relationship developed between the MC's and the hurt/comfort that they provide each other. It was refreshing to read of such a supportive family and I really hope to read Ivan's story in the future. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
I could not wait for this book. I loved Jay in the first book and was excited to see what his story was.
Jay is arrogant and doesn’t do relationships , no commitments, a one and done guy, and is hiding who he really is. Those walls are so far up you wonder if they will ever come down.
Remi loves his job as a teacher and the kids he teaches. He wants to help others. He has been hurt so much in the past. He craves intimacy, love, and most of all a relationship.
There are huge sparks and desire when they see each other. However, Jay can’t give Remi what he wants most. Little by little Remi chips away at Jay’s walls but he knows how to put them right back up.
I loved their banter with each other. Remi is sassy and Jay is cocky. Their passion when together is off the charts.
I loved Jay’s family. They are just awesome and I loved his relationship with them, especially his nephew. And can I just say Ivan. I need a book for him.
I loved seeing Cason and Emery and the close friendship that Jay and Emery still have
I highly recommend this book as I loved it. I can’t wait for Jaclyn’s next book as I love her stories and characters.
I am a huge fan of age gap and I honestly didn't think anyone could beat Emery and Cason in swoon-worthiness. I should've known Jay's story would have blown me away though. He stole the show in book 1 and I loved every second of seeing him surrender his heart to his adorably sweet piano man. The writing and character depth is exceptional, so much so that you can really feel the presence of all the characters. Jay, in particular, had me flustered anytime he was mentioned on page. I mean, the way Cason describes him as 'god-like' is 100% accurate. He's beyond charming and then when Remi blindsides him into letting his defences down, his vulnerable side had me in tears. Both Jay and Remi have been hurt in the past, and as they slowly come together, they go through an extremely tender and heartfelt journey. For all his commitment-phobe ways, Jay reveals himself to be downright romantic and wins all the awards in the total sweetheart category. Nothing will beat the New Orleans trip, or the utterly perfect ending they get!
Loved Jay and Remi's story. Remi is a music teacher and is totally dedictated to his kids, you've just got to love him. Jay is 100% a heart breaker, totally uninterested in a relationship. They're total opposites, and I have to say I had to laugh when they first meet and Remi puts Jay in his place. Ultimately though, their story was so beautiful and heart breaking all in one. It's a well written and interesting novel about broken hearts, mending them and moving on.
Both Jay and Remi are complex characters, and the author brings them to life is such a way, that you could feel their emotions as they tried to overcome their past tragedies and move forward. Despite this, there are some sweet and funny moments, and I ended up just wanting to hug both guys.
It's quite an emotional read, a bit push and pull, the ending though is beautiful. Totally sighworthy. This is a second book of a series, you really don't need to read book one beforehand. This onw can, in my opinion, be reas as a standalone. Can't wait for the next book. There was a hint in this one as to what it's going to be about. Bring it on Ms Osborn.
From the beginning Jay captured my interest and my heart. Confident, sexy and suave. He was a man who needed the right person to love. Remi, the adorable, hipster, musician was everything I wanted in a character. Sassy, quirky, kind and even though he’d been hurt before he was ready for love.
There is something so strong about a person who’s been hurt repeatedly and still has the ability to dust himself off and give love another shot. The author did an amazing job capturing and portraying Remi’s character perfectly. he was unapologetically himself, and he’s the type of man I aspire to be.
The world that the author created with Jays family, the scenery in the different scenes and the General feel of the story gave extra life to the story. But the best part was the ending that perfectly ties up any loose ends and leaves the reader wanting more from the next story!
Great job !! I recommend anyone who likes angst with a happy ending to read this book!
Jaclyn knocked Jay and Remi's book out of the park. It was as awesome as I knew it would be and I loved every second of it. It definitely had emotional moments but also lots of sexy times and definitely some humor. There will also be times where you'll be angry and I really want to tell you why, but if I do I'll just spoil it. I love that we got to meet Jay's family and learn of their story. The relationship between Jay and his nephew was so adorable! Remi's story pulled at my emotions too. Jaclyn has an amazing way of making you feel everything in her stories and I've never been disappointed. I'm also excited to read the next book in the series, which will be Jay's brother Ivan's story. I definitely recommend reading the first book, because why not. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. Cheers and happy reading 💜🌻
It's the classic "eyes meet across the smoky bar" meeting, with blond Russian hottie Jay drawn to slightly mysterious, quirky Remington - Remi - aka Piano Man. These and other well-developed characters make this a sweet read that's more poigant than angsty, though there's some brief mentions of sexual assault. The way Remi and Jay interact is almost like a dance - a tango, even. Advance, retreat, spin...always subtle and believable. You don't HAVE to read His Temptation to enjoy His Surrender but you'd be missing an excellent read if you don't, and you won't understand Jay's relationship with his friend Emery as well, so I'd start with Book 1. You'll be glad you did. *I received an advance copy of this book.*
Remi knew he should of just stayed away from Jay, and he did resist for some time. But I couldn't blame him for wanting just a taste. And then another, and another. I was just sorry to see him hurt when Jay seemed to be unable, and unwilling, to see that they could of had so much more that a physical connection, that they could have been magical together.
Remi and Jay together were incendiary, passionate and incredibly real. I loved the intensity of all their moments together, either they touched, kissed, laughed or held each other. It was just a matter of waiting for them to choose to hold strong onto one another and never let go.
His Surrender is another wonderful book by this author and I can't recommend it enough.
As we delve into Book 2 of the Unexpected Love stories, this one very much reminded me of the first. This time less of a forbidden love, instead Jay is able to love - choosing not to because of his past abusive relationship and heartbreak.
Remi on the other hand falls in love too quickly, but is open about his vice of alcohol affecting him previously.
Like Book 1, the bones of the story was there, and for the most part that was enough - but some areas of it felt like they needed more fleshing out. More depth to the story. More depth to the emotion behind the abusive relationships both characters have suffered, and how they are growing together.
I enjoyed the book... it just left me feeling like it needed more to be perfect.
Jay was arrogant, selfish, and a slut. But that was for a reason, pain and fear lay beneath, he needed to act this way to hide it and it worked well for him, until he met Remi. Remi was the complete opposite, gentle, kind, and loving, and Jay was thrown by the feelings brewing up inside him. What followed was a beautifully written love story with tender moments, tough moments, pain, and angst. Jay and Remi were awesome as a couple and the supporting characters, Jay's brother Ivan, his nephew Foster, Remi's closest friend and stand in Dad Johnny, were all interesting and enjoyable additions. A great read.
Remi and Jay’s story was funny, emotional, sexy and naughty in all the right places.
I was laughing out loud when Remi turned down Jay’s advances. Jay’s ego definitely took a tumble but like the cocky guy he was, he came back guns blazing. I enjoyed their banter, snark, teasing and their explosive chemistry.
Fantastic book with great characters.
*I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*
I love thia book so much, since I finished His Temptation I wanted to know more about Jay, my beatiful, sexy Russian playboy, and this book give exact what I need from Jay. Jay and Remy, a beautiful couple. My sweet Remy, only a man like him can tame the playboy, Jay had his heart so broken in tiny blittle pieces but Remy put together one by one, like Jay mend Remy's heart too. I love them, and I can't wait for Ivan's story
We met Jay in his Temptation where he was a play boy and Emerys best friend. Book 2 is all about Jay, he's still a playboy but he meets his nephews band teacher and starts to question his lifestyle. Jay and Remi are extremely cute together and perfect for each other. There drama and arguements as in with any couple but they overcome it all and are extremely happy. Foster is just the most adorable teenager ever and I'm looking forward to him and his dad's story!!❤😀
There is a refreshing realness to Jaclyn Osborn’s characters. At times you a thrilled for them and others disappointed in them. You want to comfort them and next you know you want to shake them. Pretty much like family lol. That’s what I enjoy the most about them. And let’s face it, Jay could be a right jerk at times. I swear Remi is a saint just for his patience. I can’t wait to read Ivan’s story.
A high school band teacher by day/jazz piano player in a band on the weekends and a prosecutor/playboy.
They have both been hurt before, they both have baggages. They are both wary of relationships.
I can’t help but fall in love with both Remi and Jay. Despite being jaded, they are good guys who are just looking out for their hearts, being hurt is something that we all know can make us really scared enough to do anything to protect it at any cost. I love how the story played out.
GAH.. I loved this book hard. it was amazing.heart rendering & so emotional. Chapter 17,i was in an ugly cry mess... I loved Remi right away,Jay,that cocky buggar,i loved than detest & loved him again. My heart broke for Jay,he needed a hug & a slap sometimes. the book ended up being a beautiful love story. A recommended read!
After an amazing first book, I had a lot of hopes and expectations for this series. Glad to say part 2 does not disappoint! It's all there - the tension, the internal battles, the undeniable attraction and two battered hearts to cheer on. Loved the MCs a whole lot and the side characters are full of charm here! Looking forward to following the series. A big hit on my list.
The player finally found love! We meet Jay in His Temptation as Emery's friend and sometimes friend with benefits and in there is where Jay first laid eyes on Remi, the piano man. Sparks fly, chemistry ignites and music and love prevail in this romance where Jay and Remi find their happily ever after. I love this series and cannot wait for the next book!
