Jo I’m anti-social to a fault. A homebody to the extreme. All it took was one night out for my hermit lifestyle to tailspin into one with a professional hockey player kissing me on my doorstep in a Wednesday Addams costume.
I wanted us to be friends, so I became the girl friend—with a space, as he likes to say. Just friends is a tried and true failure. I’ve fallen for a hockey player, and I don’t even like hockey.
Brooks I’ve had a lot of random hookups because of my status, but never one made by my dad pimping me out to fans in the crowd at my game. And she rejected me.
My hockey career is my only ambition. I don’t date women because, eventually, they always want more. When I think of the future, it’s about career goals, breaking records, and how many trophies I will hold above my head.
Now I’m the one who can’t stay away. Out of all the Labelle men, I never expected to be the first to fall.
Stacy Lane lives in Western North Carolina with her husband, her son, and an unbreakable bond with coffee—her co-author in all things creative. A die-hard hockey fanatic and unapologetic bookworm, Stacy’s love affair with romance novels began when someone gifted her one way earlier than her mom would have approved. That book set Stacy on the path to write her own stories.
When she’s not lost in a good book, Stacy is busy crafting stories packed with witty banter, sassy heroines, and plenty of heart. Her mission is to make you laugh, swoon, and believe in happily-ever-afters. All while keeping a cup of coffee within arm's reach.
Title: First to Fall Series: Triplets #1 Author: Stacy Lane
Stacy Lane's writing style is practically smooth-as-silk. She's got me under her spell. Brooks and Jo's chemistry was very organic and the relationship was not rushed or “insta,” which is always my biggest reading pet peeve. I ALWAYS love a sassy leading lady, and Jo did not disappoint, and when the playboy falls HARD it's always fun. The secondary characters are very endearing and add a lot to this already incredible storyline. I really enjoyed this one, I found myself laughing out loud at the banter between Jo and Brooks and falling in love with them, as they were falling in love with each other.
I'm excited to see what's in store for Cam and Alex Labelle.
I love a Good sports romance, but this one was over the top exceptional! The next book comes out Spring of 2019 and the first day of Spring in March 20, 2019.... so I hope it releases that day, if not sooner. I have been needing a book like this. I am a constant reader, so sometimes I am just blah with what I’m reading... maybe it’s me and not the book... don’t know, but this was awesome. The characters are developed so well throughout the entire story and there is so much fun and worry and swoon and some tears. I love that there is so much family involved in this book, it’s a favorite element of mine. I am a Huge Kristen Proby fan and this compares; and that is not said lightly. Can’t wait to read the next one!
I received an ARC from the author and I am happy to give my honest review.
I love sports romance. It started for me with Susan Elizabeth Philips and has grown to include all sorts of sports that I know nothing about, like rugby and soccer. Hockey is one of my favorites sports subjects because I'm from the Midwest and that's what we do.
First to Fall is about Brooks, a professional hockey player, and Jo, an actuary. Jo is a year out of relationship where her boyfriend died unexpectedly. We learn later that their relationship wasn't all it seemed but Jo is hesitant to get involved with someone new. Brooks isn't interested in long term and likes to keep his options open.
The cast of characters in this book really made it a winner for me. I loved Brooks's family, especially his brother Cam. I liked the dynamics of friendships and everyone being intertwined. I'm looking forward to seeing where everyone is at in future books.
I did give this book five stars because I think the writing deserves it. Stacy Lane is a talented author and I enjoyed the friends to lovers aspect of this book. However it was a little long. I think it could be cut down a bit and still be a good book. There was some drama that seemed over the top to me. I also would have loved to see more of Jo at work. I don't think I've ever read a book with an actuary character before so I wished we could see more of it.
Alas, I would recommend this book. It was a fairly quick read with some flawed but likable characters plus some sexy triplet guys. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.
I love sports romance, but hockey is always my weakness and she did it just right. Besides having quite a few typos and seemingly rushed editing, this book was perfection. Very relatable character development (although I would have liked a little bit more on Brooks’ end). I love how well she developed the supporting characters into the story leaving me anticipating future stories set in this world, especially Cam’s story (because that dead wife comment was really slipped in there with no further explanation?!?). I am also hoping with the foreshadowing that Chelsea ends up showing up in Alex’s story. I am definitely impressed considering this is one of her early publications and I will be on the lookout for this author going forward.
I loved this book! I loved the heroine! I can’t wait to read the brothers books! Was it perfect, no. But I felt the characters were relatable and genuine. I do wish some of the dramas were resolved with a little more detail.
I really, really enjoyed this story, both MCs, and the supporting the cast. Everything was great. I was even really happy that it was pretty long bc I enjoyed the pacing and story telling and was happy for it to go on. My only issue…which annoyed me throughout the entire story…was the misuse of past tense. The MCs narrative constantly used past tense actions when they were doing the action RIGHT NOW. it’s present tense. It took me out of the story multiple times. Anyway other than thaaat 👀…this was a really fun story and I’m ready start book two right away.
When you laugh to the point of tears you know you’re in a great book!!! The characters were so real & so relatable. I am beyond excited to see this is a series as I love almost everyone in this book! I think Jo is such an amazing woman and at the end of the book I just sat back and smiled at how much she had grown as a person. The chemistry & connection between her and Brooks grabs your heart and they are just so dang cute together! Don’t miss out on this one!
I loved the characters and the story. The flow was a bit weird with the Mason/Jason/Noah situation. I'm not sure I was 100% understanding who done what when but the rest was good. In these series type books you tend to get so many characters but I think author did ok with the multitude of characters. I even think I know who Alex gets with as foreshadowing was used. You/I'll need to read on to see for sure. (Chelsea)
After reading Icebreaker by Hannah Grace, I was looking for another hockey romance. I definitely didn’t hate this book but it wasn’t my favorite. I love the Labelle family’s dynamic, but everything in Jo’s past was confusing and convoluted. I felt like we either needed shit with her family or problems with the ex. But by trying to do both it made the plot weak and confusing. I don’t feel compelled to read the next books in the series.
1- Skimmed. The book could have been shorter... it was way to long for the small amount of things going on. 2- The heroine was another cliche that I’ve seen too much of. 3- Some spellings errors and minor mistakes.
Really enjoyed this book by a new author to me. Characters were intriguing and storyline flowed well. Looking forward to reading the next one and hope vic gets a bit of karma hitting him for Chelsea.
This was my first time with a Stacy Lane book. Loved the characters, really good writing but I would have liked to have seen the ending wrapped up a little more quickly. Found myself skipping pages towards the end. But all in all, very enjoyable.
I stumbled across this book by accident! A Great Accident! Jo's insecurities and personal outlook is something I can emphasize with! I love how she slowly but surely started growing out of her shell! Cute love story 💗
I enjoyed this but wow, it seriously needs an edit. There were numerous tense and grammatical errors, as well as far too many misused words (for example, incite and insight are not interchangeable).
4.75 ⭐️ I love hockey romance and sports romances in general so I thought I would give this a try and I really enjoyed it. The couple was great and the banter.
The declaration scene sealing the HEA made me smile. First to Fall was one of my favorite reads of the new year. Enjoyed reading about the first triplet and can’t for his brothers stories to come.
I LOVED IT. Wow. This was such a smooth, funny, loving book. Usually when the characters don't engage too much with each other, and are in the will they, won't they stage. The book tends to get a little slow paced. This book was the opposite! It was brilliant. Stacy incorporated scenes with the characters in a very smooth way. It wasn't frustrating or boring. And there was just the right amount of drama. This book was perfectly balanced. I loved the heroine and the hero. Their friends, their families. I'm on my way to read Chelsea's and Alex's story. Hope It's as good as this one!💓
