Broken Road by Shannon Lane is a sweet, contemporary romance with relatable characters and many surprises.

Our protagonist, Ellen Mannis, wants to escape her painful past and abusive ex-husband, so she finds a new job as a nanny and part-time assistant for one of the biggest names in Pittsburgh, Brennan Grant.

Ellen quickly becomes immersed in Brennan’s family, almost as if she is part of it. The children love her, and Brennan depends on her, while he deals with his own issues.

I really enjoyed this story from start-to-finish. I love the slow-build romance, but it’s more than just a love story. It's also about growth and self-discovery. Lane has a superb way of writing where she can take you from experiencing the sweetest scene to something intense and provoking.

A word of caution for those who’ve experienced abuse, there is some of it in this book, but Lane is sensitive and respectful with the subject.

I loved this story. One of my favorite romance stories in 2020! Make sure to check out more of Lane’s books! I can't wait to read more myself.

Broken Road is a contemporary romance that has a compelling pace, relateable and strong characters, mystery and surprises. Ellen is a woman trying to move on and forget her painful past. After moving in hopes to distance herself from the memories, the perfect job opportunity opens up.

Brennan is a widowed lawyer with three children. Seeking a new nanny and part time assistant, he's impressed with Ellen and her education in child care. As Ellen becomes integrated into their family routine, it doesn't take long to realize that
her attractive employer has secrets of his own. Together, their shared pain becomes the bridge that ultimately brings them closer.

Neither Brennan or Ellen are willing to risk voicing their feelings--she's just the nanny and to her it needs to remain just a job. But when a threat from the past rears it's ugly head, there's no time like the present to admit their true feelings. The question is, will they be able to before it's too late?

Lane has written a superb slow-burn with all the feels. Each character, including the children, was entirely relateable and the pace kept me turning page after page. The ending threw me for a loop and I was not able to put it down. Highly recommend!

I loved this story!!! And of course the characters (shoutout to my girl Dakota!!! I might even have a crush on Brennan hehehehe). I don't usually dabble in romance because I feel like a lot of the genre is excessive annoying mushy gushy blah blah blah, but I am indeed a sucker for innocent love stories, which is exactly what this one is, so thank god for this book. It was such a page turner and had me staying up well past my bedtime most nights!!! I would definitely read it again.

I absolutely loved this book to the extent that I literally could not put it down. With every paragraph, I just kept wanting to know what was next. Who doesn’t enjoy a good love story to begin with but then blindside me with a twist!!? Hook, line, & sinker - Broken Road left me with this “what the heck am I supposed to do now without these characters in my life” feeling I get after I read just a truly captivating novel. A must read, for sure!

I read Broken Road after reading Shannon's other book, Soul on Fire (if you haven't read that one, it's fantastic and you should go do that right now!) Broken Road started off a little slow, but picked up in a way that made me curious to keep reading... and eventually having to keep reading because I needed to see where this story would go!
The story follows Ellen as she navigates her life after moving away from her horrible ex. Her friend hooks her up with an Interview with Brennan (her friend's boss) as a Nanny for his kids. Once hired she automatically bonds with his kids and him. The story blooms smoothly over the rest of the book where we learn the little broken bits of both her and Brennan as she becomes closer to his family. Things really pickup when Brennan sets up an interview with someone they are both connected with and from there... things may never be the same.
The story has a bit of a slow burn, but it is also what kept me wanting to read because I was waiting for it to happen! It's a sweet story of second chances, self-healing, and learning how to love again.

If you're looking for something that will make you feel good, look no further. Though I spend most of my time reading darker fiction, it was nice to step into a book that allowed me to smile.
We follow Ellen, who has a rough past, as she is offered the job of a lifetime. It almost seems too good to be true, but it is the perfect placement for her. As she and her employer, Brennan, start to develop inevitable feelings, things from both of their pasts begin to surface.
This book is heartwarming and great for anyone who has a soft spot for children. It was a bit tough for me to get into only because it seemed like everyone was too kind - it needed a bit more conflict early on to really hook me. However, conflict reared its head later in the book, the last third really fast-paced with heaps of drama.
It is a sweet story about overcoming the things that haunt us, and I think that is a valuable lesson.

A great story about broken pasts and finding happiness. It kept me intrigued and pleasantly surprised. I read the whole book within a day because of how well-written and engrossing it was. Shannon puts care into building her characters and it really shows. The perfect story for any romance readers.
