The Singularity War #1

Warrior: Integration

Rate this book
Left for dead in the Lunar underground, Brandt Wills wakes up to find out his problems are only beginning. Before being dumped, a shadowy organization called “Singularity” implanted an alien parasite in him which is now devouring him from the inside out.

In searching for Singularity, he inadvertently alerts them to his condition—he didn’t die like he was supposed to—and now Singularity wants him back. At all costs. They will do whatever it takes to capture Brandt, including going to war with Luna if it’s required, and if they can’t recover him, they will kill him rather than let him get away with the alien symbiont.

But the Singularity doesn’t know that the symbiont is able to mold and adapt Brandt’s body into something better than he was before and, as a prior member of the Special Security forces of Terra, he was already a lethal weapon.

With a wise-cracking cyber ghost of a former friend and lover, Brandt will have to find out the secrets of Singularity and the alien symbiont before the monster kills him. Singularity’s secrets could mean the death of everyone on Luna…or worse.

There is a classical say about adventure books, in particular military ones: non-stop action!
It ususally means that alot happens but the action isn't non-stop.
Well, there is an exception to every rule... and Warrior: itnegration is the exception.
This book is really, truly, non stop action!
You have our hero, Brandt, who was kinda looking for redemption after a quite colorful and let's say it, evil path! He lands in a lab and is infected with something which turns him into a monster... and then he manages to control the monster and then to escape and then ... he has the occasion to do the right thing.
All the way, he has to fight, fight himself, fight the monster inside, fight the bad guys, sometimes, even the good guys... All in all, Brandt fights, fights and fights and never quits. His one advantage: he now has a conscience! As well as an unexpected ally in the form of the ghost of a former girlfriend (not wanting to spoil anything...)

The whole action happens on Luna, in an universe where humanity is still stuck in the solar system but has spread on Luna, Mars, Jupiter and Venus. Terra is in the hands of a dictature and there is some mexican stand-off between Terra and Luna... till Terra decides to play with the monster on Luna, with the Lunans nonethewiser....

Enjoy the ride! Can't wait for book 2!

I couldn’t put it down!

In every human society there are always those who want to control everybody else. Societies sell this greed and lust for control to their members as convenience, or safety. This story revolves around one person who finds the cost too high and tries to do something about it. As a result he learns how little the individual is valued by those at the top and wants to make amends somehow. This is the story of his journey. It is in turns harrowing, dangerous, illuminating and thought provoking. As with all good writing it holds a mirror up to our everyday reality and shows us things we might not want to see.

Hard to Put Down

Looking at your brief biography at the end of Integration, I think we must have met somewhere along our career paths. Probably haven't, but the biggest difference is that you write great stories. Mine not so much. ☺ Reading Integration, I ALMOST felt like reading a series of "24" or perhaps a video game. In 24,, everything happens in 24 hours, which is not quite the same as Integration, but everything does happen in a short time frame and very fast. In a video game, the hero has a certain number of lives and gains weapons and power as levels are beaten. However, in both 24 and a video game, there is a possible "win" when you beat or finish the game and there is none in Book 1. It is impossible to guess the outcome of Book 2. All in all a quick and fun story and hard to put down.

This is probably the best SciFi military action book I have read in over three years. There is a story, there is politics, there is extraterrestrial monster. A hero, who was a bad boy, and now is on a redemption path, several traces of romance. There is some amount of violence, a pinch of gore. And non-stop action, There are no long explanations how the universe works, nor how spaceships tackle FTL, which I find boring in an action novel. Finally, there is (dark) humour and intelligent word building. I have read the rest of novels in the trilogy, also action-packed and completely enjoyable reading. Thank you Mr. David Hallquist, and please keep on writing! Strongly recommend this trilogy to military SciFi lovers.

First. Point of view. Way too many "I" did, saw, heard something. That's completely subjective though. I just feel it made it sort of a slog to read.
Second. I kind of feel like the main character's an idiot.
Third. Action. Repetitive action.
The premise was, though well-used, interesting in how it was set up. Also liked that there wasn't a huge info-dump at the beginning; details just came along as needed.
I can't say I disliked it but neither can I say definitely that I'd read it again.

Could have been

Another kindle unlimited special!! The story was there but the writing was not!! I know they are independent writers but someone has to read this before selling on Kindle so they should have caught all the I in the story

Impressive

Although written mostly in first person narration with minimal dialogue till a special ally joins the main character, it was still easy to picture every scene in my mind's eye. The tech is well done, including the addition of said ally. 😉

Very well crafted and 'thrilling, nonstop action' don't do it justice. A solid five stars and eagerly awaiting the next episode.

Bleh!

No plot, just one senseless slaughter after another, ad nauseum. The “protagonist” has a past history of assaults and general killing, and this current path shows no deviation. The reader is subjected to one horrific slaughter scene after another. I found absolutely NO reason the read more than halfway.

An easy entertaining read. Rather over the top what happens to this guy, and no one would remain sane under the conditions he is living. But if you ignore the impossible and don't criticize too much, it is an interesting plotline. I liked it enough that I am purchasing volume two. I don't know about future volumes, but I will spend the money on volume two.

Hard core SF

Page turning action that keeps ratcheting up as the reader uncovers the mystery of who and what is performing hideous experiments on human beings in a far-future world of where mankind has spread across the solar system . I'll definitely be getting the next book.

Military sci-fi meta-human vs big brother in the 25th century

Scary vision of the future where the state tries to control everything with all the power at its command. Takes the concept of "big brother is watching" to terrifying levels.

Hard to put down

Book starts a little slow 🐌 then the pace picks up and you don't want to put it down. Prepare for a lot of action and more action. Lot of violence.

Action. And not much else.

Action packed, yes, but not much else. I quit after the first half. Good world building on the moon though

An interesting story which I found hard to follow in the early stages, but it improved as it went on. Full of action, first person narrative, all in all pretty good.

Could have been shorter

Way too much repetition. Guy’s body almost destroyed, magically gets repaired by monster, guided by AI/ghost. Would have been much better as a novelette.

A good first book. Hopefully the characters get filled in a little. The first book is full of action but not much character development. I have high hopes for this series.
