The outlaw Robin Hood wreaks havoc on the industrial city of Nottingham, but he doesn’t just steal riches. Bit by bit he takes away the Sheriff’s power and control, and none of the Sheriff’s advisors can stop the thief.
As the daughter of a nobleman and one of the Sheriff’s colleagues, Marion has always known her place – be a great hostess, but let the men do the work. Until a chance encounter with Robin Hood makes the Sheriff realize the outlaw has a weakness for damsels in distress.
After a threat made against her Father’s life, Marion is forced to play a part in the Sheriff’s scheme to go undercover, find Robin Hood, and get rid of him. But the thief and his companions are not what she expects, and she begins to doubt her mission.
In the first story in the Tales of Nottingham series, Marion finds herself trapped between duty and love, where one false move could end her Father’s life or destroy the people she cares about most.

You know that feeling you get when you like a book so much but then you are loathing having to write a review for it because you have so many thoughts and you don’t know where to start? ❤️😂 That’s me right now 🙆🏻‍♀️.

Ok, I guess I’ll just throw all my thoughts here and hope it makes sense.
Thief is so so unique, I don’t even know how to categorize it. Fantasy? Sci-fi? Contemp? I’d say it is like a mashup of all of those and I love it. I know this may sound weird, but it gives me Shrek vibes because of the setting! Like magical beings mingling with humans and the different realms named after Fairytale lands (Sherwood Forest, Briar Rose, Goldilocks, Giantsville, Neverland, etc etc). I LOVED that. (Add the fact that there’s tech and ta-da!)

When we start the story we see that combination of faeries buying coffee at a cafe and fluorescent signs shinning on the streets while elves go to balls and work at the local hospital. Here is a little snippet of the book that might help you understand what I mean:

”𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙧𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙉𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙝𝙖𝙢 𝙬𝙚 𝙜𝙤, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙩 𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙨. 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙨 𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙮𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙄’𝙢 𝙚𝙘𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙚𝙚 𝙖 𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙧𝙮 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙞𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙. 𝙄 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙗𝙮, 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙮, 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙗𝙡𝙪𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙗𝙤𝙗𝙗𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙖𝙞𝙧.”

Robin Hood is such a sweetheart and I just want to squish him to death 😂❤️ Maybe a little too aggressive, but you get my meaning. His relationship with the MC is adorable and makes your heart flutter something terrible🥺.

The description of Sherwood Forest with its various trees houses is amazinggggg! I love that almost everyone there owns a treehouse as their home or business 😍.
The plot is so good, and even tho it’s a quick read (258 pages) I wouldn’t have had it any other way because it’s just the perfect size for the story. It suits it perfectly and it leaves you satisfied but at the same time wanting more.

Robin Hood’s gang is friendship goals. I’m not kidding I wish could join 🥺❤️. They are like sibling besties and my favorite characters were Ambrosia and Jon 😩💕. I won’t say much about them because it’s better if you found out more about them yourself 🥰.

𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙒𝙞𝙨𝙚, I have some things I should mention.

There are no sex scenes or explicit romance or kisses at all. Super clean in that way. I do have to mention that the MC at the beginning of the story parties, consumes alcohol, and gets drunk. She does enjoy drinking. There is just a brief two-sentence mention that she likes reading steamy romance. There is also a two-sentence scene where she relates advances from a guy and how he was going to unzip her dress while in a party but she realizes quickly and flees the scene (the dress scene sounds worse than it is but I just wanted to leave that there).

I will leave page numbers for the above mentioned below ;)

And that’s it friends I’m going to go read book #2 right now and hopefuly post my review this weekend . If you have a suggestion for a book you’d like me to review, leave your comment below and I’ll add it to my tbr

Party: page 19 and brief mention in 20

Unzip dress scene: page 34 (brief two sentence mention)

Mention about liking steamy romances: page 52 (brief two sentence mention)

Another drunk scene: page 152 (she doesn’t do anything crazy while under the influence…)

Content: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 3.5/5

Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/4

Overall personal rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨✨ 3.75/5 (just beacuse of the content)

This Robin Hood retelling was a long time in the making, and I'm so blessed to finally be able to share it with all of you. My writing style has always been relevant to certain things going on in the world, and because of that, I feel like it is my duty not to sugarcoat the hard topics that I write about. To service my wonderful readers, I've copied and pasted my Authors Note from the interior of THIEF below just to let you know of any potential trigger warnings before you dive in. Thank you so much for choosing THIEF to be your next read. <3

"This book is near and dear to my heart for many reasons, but the truth is that it was a hard book to write. In the pages following, dear reader, the characters have to go through struggles that they shouldn’t; struggles that are very real and ones people in a perfect world would never have to experience.
For my readers who may have experienced any of these things, I thought of you beforehand and wanted you to know that there is physical and verbal abuse, substance abuse, some torture, and anxiety rep throughout the story. I’ve done my best to keep things from getting explicit while also being true and not minimizing the pain and lasting effects that these things can cause.
It’s my duty to both you and myself to acknowledge the hardships and trials as they are, but it is also my duty to both you and myself to show that there can be healing, growth, and a light at the end of the tunnel. There is more to your story, as there is to Marion’s, Robin’s, and the rest of the gang’s.
I hope this book is everything you wish it to be.

Hugs,
Savanna Roberts"

"I don't know if you've noticed or not, but this group basically runs on snark."

I just adore this book, y'all. The trilogy as a whole means a lot to me, and this is the perfect intro to it. I decided to annotate my paperback this time around and while most of them were just Grayson's "greatest hits" (because I love him), there are also so many moments that are beautiful and perfect and powerful. The worldbuilding is fascinating. The characters are fantastic. Marion has so many human struggles, making her such a relatable protagonist as she tries to find her place in the world. Grayson, as I mentioned, is actually the love of my life, I'm pretty sure, hahaha. Ambrosia, Jon, Tuck, Gina, there are so many side characters who hold special places in my heart, and I just. I love it.

This particular book truly is one of three, setting up the conflict and the characters we'll root for (and against) for the series arc. That doesn't make it less enjoyable, though, falling in love with Robin's squad alongside Marion. I'm definitely going to be re-reading the rest of the trilogy sooner rather than later. 5 stars from me!

Content warnings for physical and verbal abuse, alcohol consumption, some romantic moments, and violence.

If you’re looking for a Robin Hood book, as I was, then this isn’t it. Yes, there’s a lad in it who is known as Robin Hood, but his real name is Grayson and he lives at home with his mum and dad. Yes, they live in Sherwood Forest, but it’s more modern-day America Sherwood Forest than England in the Middle Ages.
There is no Much, no Little John, no Will Scarlett, no Allan-a-dale, no Gisborne. There’s a Sheriff, who is suitably vile, and there is Marion - the main character. Who’s also a teenager.
This isn’t set in medieval times - it’s set in some futuristic-type land, and Nottingham, under the rule of the Sheriff, is some kind of dystopia. There are metal horses, guns, TV’s, and robots.
Basically, it’s young adult through and through, and isn’t badly written at all. But it’s very much aimed at teenagers, and it is nothing like the legend we know and love, apart from the fact that Robin/Grayson’s gang use bows and arrows - and also have arrow tattoos!
I’m not going to say I hate it because I don’t. But I expected something different, which is why I’ve only given it 3 stars (which isn’t a bad rating!) I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of the trilogy though as it isn’t really my kind of thing. But it is a decent story.

Wow. This book. Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before—I don’t know, I LOVED IT and I’m not even sure how to describe how much I love it so I’m quoting the Lady Gaga meme.

First of all, the world building: INCREDIBLE. The blend of modern cities with medieval elements and sci-fi was absolutely genius and painted a super colorful world that I had a blast visualizing. Secondly, the stakes are so well established I literally could not stop reading. There’s tension on every page and I was on the edge of my seat wondering how characters are going to react at Marion’s betrayal—and how Marion herself is going to resolve her internal struggle. There’s found family, cute romance, and action all packed together. I just loved the vibes. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read something I was SUPER engaged in.

10/10 would recommend. I’m obsessed.

The tail of Robin Hood is a well known story, with a great reputation. Thief lives up to that and more.
I loved the pov in Thief, and our MC. I loved Marian! She was flawed and relatable. You felt for her from the beginning and the way she grows through the story was well done.
Not to mention the world building. The author took the well known setting and made it her own (robot horses people!)
The characters were great,
The friendships throughout the story where so fun to read
The world was well done
The romance between certain characters was great.
Overall, I loved everything about this story and am very excited that she has book two out, cause I need it.

This is kick-you-in-the-throat good. Blame my poor time management for the long break in reading—not the story. The story buckles you into a roller coaster from the end of the first chapter.

Pacing, characterization, tension—all balanced.

I don’t always audibly react to stories, but this one had me gasping and talking at it. A lot. Some of it was English, and some of it was unintelligible sounds of glee and despair.

In short, I had an awesome time. 👌👏
An absolute thrill of a book. Highly recommend.

As far as Robin Hood adaptations go, I think this holds up. The story world places a unique frame around a familiar narrative. Fans of the Ella Enchanted film or Cinder would probably enjoy the way it blends fantasy and the mundane, which includes some sci-fi technology. The bubble-gum style gadgetry presents a whimsical take on futuristic devices, but does not detract from the grittier reality that exists beneath the sheen of progress and innovation.

⚠️⚠️Mild Spoilers Below⚠️⚠️

I love Robin. I love Ambrosia and Jon.

The Sheriff is terrifying. Just truly gutting. An excellent villain.

This book’s strongest points, though, are the punches it doesn’t pull—especially when it comes to Marion.

Specifically, the mistakes it allows Marion to make, as much as they made me nearly pelt my kindle at the wall.

And the consequences of those actions?

I’m looking forward to seeing how Marion manages those.

This book absolutely broke me. I think it worthy of 12 stars. 157 stars. 7 billion stars.
Savanna Roberts has done it again. I honestly doubt that I'll ever rate any of her books as less than 5 stars. She is a genius. The character development. The plot. The way she tastefully weaves emotions of loss, anxiety, depression, and trauma into a passage that leaves the reader breathless with anticipation, emotionally drained for the beloved characters. She is one of my favorite authors of all time.
This Robin Hood retelling gripped me from start to finish. Let me just say this, I would marry Robin tomorrow.

An absolutely amazing book! It's exciting, the romance is well done but also clean. It kept me intrigued the entire way and definitely makes you want to jump right into the next one once it ends. It has a great plot line that won't let you put it down And I loved the way she retold the robin hood story, very creative and fun. A great read overall. This whole series was very well written, and I wish it lasted longer, I never wanted it to end. It is a little more on the violent side and the author does include a trigger warning at the beginning, but I enjoyed every bit of this story and definitely recommend. Five star rating worthy, more if I could.

The book's climax was compelling enough, but it was a very slow journey to get there. I picked up this book because I love 'Robin Hood', but unfortunately I didn't feel connected to Marion (our protagonist) and didn't really believe her relationships between characters. The strange techonological nuances of the world were also jarring, taking away from the story instead of adding to it. An okay read. I feel like book 2 may be better as the world building has been completed, though I'm not sure if I will go there.

Ok I beta read this so somehow I missed posting a review here. Oops! Though I’m positive I left one. 🤷‍♀️

This book is amazing and Roberts once again shows us that her writing skills are far more advanced than you would expect. This story had everything you would want and I cannot wait for book 2.

Started off uncertain I’d like it, since I am not usually a fan of futuristic fantasy, but it hooked me and I’m committed to the next parts of the series!!
Also respect to the author for not naming Robin Hood Robert… really not an attractive name for our day + age 🤭

Wow—such a fresh retelling of Robin Hood. I love the legend of Robin Hood, which also means I'm picky about how it is portrayed...well, Roberts did not disappoint! The characters are well-developed and relatable, the story settings vibrant, the plot exciting, and the writing style excellent.

If Thief sounds at all interesting to you, I definitely recommend you snatch it up and give it a read!

I read this as part of a read-along hosted by the author and really enjoyed it! I was a little surprised at first with the genre because I wasn't expecting a mix of sci-fi/historical/fantasy; that being said, I loved it, and I'm completely okay with reading more in the same style and series. And hey, since it ended on a HORRIBLE CLIFFHANGER... XD The characters are wonderful and real, and the plot one is I didn't want to break away from and do life. XD Can't wait to read the next book in the series. <33

Thank you, Savanna, for hosting the read-along! I had a lot of fun, and I'm so glad to have discovered a new series! <3
