Liv pushes Bex into a week-long whirlwind of dates, awkward kisses and missed connections.

4 star Review The Yes Factor by Erin Spencer & Emma Sabler

When I read the blurb for this one, I jumped at the chance to read and review. For a number of reasons this book appealed to me and it was an entertaining story with characters that were easy to relate too. Underlying this story is a deep and abiding friendship between Bex, a divorced mother and her best friend Liv.They may live on opposite sides of the world but their friendship has remained, maybe not as strong as it was but still there.

What’s a woman to do when she doesn't want to face the reality of her own life? That to me is the situation that Liv finds herself in when she flies in to visit Bex and drag her divorced friend into the dating scene again.

Both Liv and Bex push each other to be the best that they can be and I loved that about their friendship. Their camaraderie and banter is funny, as well as honest and it is obvious that they love one another, accepting each others flaws and overcoming their arguments. It is also a story of looking deep inside oneself and coming to terms with what they discover.

I was surprised to learn that this is their debut collaboration as the story flowed well and I have no idea who wrote what or where one author finished and the other took over. The fact that the characters are more mature than a lot of other books just added to my enjoyment. I also have to say it also made me very happy that I am no longer in the dating scene.

This was a realistic look at friendship and there were times that I laughed, times that I cried and times I absolutely wanted a glass of wine or two.

Spencer's and Sable's witty debut romantic comedy novel is must read this summer on the woes of dating and the bond of sisterhood.

Bex and Liv where inseparable as young woman and only spilt by love which took one of them across the world . Now as Bex seems to be dipping into the scene and self sabotage herself at dating
Liv is questioning her entire life in London and flies back to the USA in the hopes of discovering where she going totally wrong and instead finds herself in damage mood. She wants to help Bex but truly she only doing the opposite, not wanting to address the elephant in the room.

This was something different in a good way. Spencer and Sable grabbed my attention from the start with Bex and her misadventure. It was the perfect way to start the novel and shows only how good these two authors are together when they join forces and write. They seemed seasoned with the witty dialogue and easily flow between the two POV.

Best friends help each through the up's and down's of life and it seem this friendship was tested to it's limits. With their secrets that only revealed in their POV , it was jumble up journey as each took the steps to figuring out what they want as they end their 30's

40 is the new 30 and these ladies prove the point. I enjoyed these authors take on the whole dating scene. It takes two to party and the alternative chapters in their POV offers a chance to see it from two ladies at different stages of life and love. The moments that make this book could be horror stories but they just unfortunate reality for these two poor souls.

The right balance of these two was the perfecct way to tackle the journey that unfolded in the novel. Both woman need to take the time and discover want they wanted even though they went about the wrong way say yes to everything and taking a chance.

The Yes Factor is a charming rom com about saying yes and jumping into the unknown. Art intimates life in this novel and this novel is perfect for those love a book that just not your run of the mill rom com. I do hope these two write a follow up as they found their brand in this book and it's genius and on point.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read about best friends and dating. Bex and Liv got themselves into a lot of hijinks, some of which were really funny. The story leaves room for a sequel and I hope that will happen in the near future. I felt like some parts of the story got dropped between point A and point B, and I wouldn't have minded seeing them fit in there. I enjoyed getting to know both characters and had such a fun time reading this novel. It is perfect for chick lit fans.

Movie casting suggestions:
Liv: Abbie Cornish
Bex: Jocelin Donahue
Devon: Noel Clarke
Brad: Josh Hartnett
Maddie: Ruby Jay
Chloe: Quvenzhané Wallis
Ethan: Allen Leech

This one is a little bit like Thelma and Louise but if they actually got a happy ending and hadn't driven off that cliff! Funny, charming, and relatable tale about the realities of putting yourself out there again in mid-life.

Please tell me there is a book 2 of The Yes Factor in the making?!! Also, how cute is this cover ?!⁣

This book had some mixed reviews. Other reviewers seem to think you can’t call someone your best friend if you don’t tell them everything. I personally feel like sometimes if you don’t want to come to terms with how bad something is in your life, you may keep it from your best friend because you aren’t ready to hear what you already know. Your best friend will see right through your soul.⁣

You know your best friend will still love you for decisions you may have made, that may or may not be great decisions but you aren’t ready to look your decision in the eye. I feel that was probably how Liv felt in this story. She knew Bex would call her bluff, so she tried to put her focus into getting Bex out of her own head and avoided dealing with her own issues. ⁣

Yes Factor was such a cute rom com about two best friends. Bex lives in LA while Liv lives in London. They grew up together and were basically sisters until getting married and moving away from each other changed things for them.⁣

Bex is divorced with a thirteen year old daughter, too afraid to move on with living, staying stuck and refusing to put herself out there.⁣

Liv is living a ritzy life in London with her successful lawyer husband who is more a traveling ghost husband, than an attentive, loving husband.⁣

Liv decides to jump on a plane to go try and get Bex out of her rut and get her to say “yes” and less saying “no.” They repair their friendship that has been put on the back burner, and also go through some self discovery of their own.⁣

Both of these women have such a fierce, tight knit friendship and push each other to the edge; but are always there to catch each other. Their banter is too funny and their love for each other, just makes you want to be part of their friendship. ⁣

This was a beautiful story of love, friendship, self discovery, and learning to find self love and self care.⁣

I’m giving this 4⭐️ solely because with it ending how it did, there NEEDS to be a second book, because I need to know what comes next for Liv and Bex. 💕⁣

Chick-lit fans, you're going to love The Yes Factor! Witty and charming, this debut novel had me smiling and laughing. It's not only a story about finding love in the modern dating world, at it's core, it's about friendship. I also have to say, it was so refreshing to have characters edging 40 who were loving life and still growing through their adventures! The perfect summer read!

If you’re a fan of romcom audiobooks, you absolutely need to pick up this delightful story that focuses on friendship shenanigans. I loved it!

As a woman in her mid-30s, I really appreciated finding such a great story about women closer to my age. The friendship between Bex and Liv was one of the most realistic and relatable relationships I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.

As I mentioned, the story’s main focus is their friendship, but as you can see from the synopsis, romance is a large part of the plot as well. There were so many fun scenarios woven into their week together and hilarity often ensued.

This is a wonderful mood lifter type book. It’s perfect for when you’re looking for a “beach read”. Whether you are dipping your toes in the sand, or, if you’re like me, locked in an endless Canadian winter and want something fun to escape with.

I truly hope Spencer and Sable will continue writing more books because I thoroughly enjoyed this one and would love to read more of their works.

Audiobook HIGHLY recommended.

I loved, loved, loved this story! The Yes Factor is a brilliant tale of friendship, dating, relationships and living your best life -- after 40. Erin Spencer and Emma Sable are new-to-me authors, and they did a bang-up job with this collaboration.

Although I am happily married, as a fortysomething woman, I easily related to Bex and Liz and how they pushed one another to get out of the comfort zone... and say YES more often. Their friendship is loyal and fierce but also one full of love and laughter. The antics they get into had me chuckling and reminded me so much of my own circle of friends.

This is a wonderfully witty story, a perfect summertime read! I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

The Yes Factor by Erin Spencer and Emma Sable is so much fun. I loved the characters and the story premise. Main characters Bex and Liv are like Lucy and Ethyl or Thelma and Louise. The two have been separated by the Atlantic Ocean for a number of years and their friendship has gotten a bit stale, but when Liv comes to visit, it’s like they were never apart.

As childhood friends, they practically lived at one another’s homes, but as adults, living on different continents, they struggled through some difficult times on their own. At this specific point in their lives, they are both facing more challenges. For Bex is it a stalled love life. She would love a relationship (or just a date), but always finds a reason to not meet the men she finds on various dating apps. Lex is married, but it isn’t the happily-ever-after she wanted. When her husband again chooses work over a romantic getaway, she hops on a plane to “solve Bex’s love life” instead of her own. That is when the action really takes off. Sometimes funny, sometime poignant, this story about friendship. Bex and Liv are almost sisters—yes, they love and care for each other, but that doesn’t mean they don’t disagree, keep secrets, or have arguments.

I enjoyed Bex’s “say yes” journey, and most of all, I enjoyed the story of her friendship with Liv. Thanks to the excellent narration by Ava Ericson and Andi Arndt my chores were much easier to get through while listening to this book. Say yes to this book; it’s a light-hearted, quick read.

This story tell the tales of Bex and Liv, best friends who have lived in different continents for a good few years and are now reunited for a week.
The story is good, entertaining, sweet, fun and bittersweet at times. It follows both characters as they deal with a certain moment in time.
I truly enjoyed the story even tho at the beginning I had to push myself to keep reading it, but once it picked up pace I really liked it.
I love the sisterhood these two share and I love how easy their relationship is, even with all the years that have passed and how they can fight it out and be ok in no time. I love how Liv pushes Bex and I hope we're going to get Liv's story as I am now curious about what's about to happen.

The Yes Factor by Erin Spencer and Emma Sable was such a fun and delightful read. I laughed and just lost myself in the story. Liv and Bex are best friends and always there for each other. However, with lives in separate places, they may not always be as close as they used to be and want to be, but the love and friendship is always there. But could they need each other now more than ever? Liv wants to help Bex enter dating life again and truly give it a try and Liv needs to figure out who she is and what she truly wants.

I just loved their friendship, banter and how they pushed and supported each other. Though they were not always completely honest with each other, you could see what they truly mean to one another. Both Liv and Bex went through so much growth, learning, self-awareness. The Yes Factor by Erin Spencer and Emma Sable was a great read about friendship, life, choices and so much more.

This book wasn’t exactly what I expected but I enjoyed it nevertheless. It’s more like a woman fiction than romance for me but a very good story and well written.
I laughed out loud many moments and I also felt sad for the heroine.

It’s not often that I listen to a book in a day, I just don’t have the time these days, but once I started The Yes Factor, I didn’t want to put it down, so I didn’t.

Erin Spencer and Emma Sable have crafted a brilliantly charming and witty story of friendship and the woes of dating in the modern world. As I listened, it was hard to believe that this was a debut novel, it felt like they had been writing together for a long time. Their writing is cohesive, and they tell such a fun, feel good story.

I liked that this book had characters that were my age, I’m not usually bothered by things like that, but it felt refreshing and gave a whole different dynamic to the thoughts and feelings of the characters. The dating mishaps were hilarious, and I’ll admit, made me grateful not to be on the dating scene.

What I loved the most about this story was how the friendship was written. The bond of friendship is strong even from miles away. Friends fight and they make up. They keep things from one another and eventually spill their secrets when the time is right. And that is captured so perfectly throughout this story. Bex and Olivia are fantastic, I cheered with them. I commiserated with them. I laughed with them. And I wanted to go pour a glass of bourbon and hang out with them too.

Ava Erickson and Andi Arndt performed this book to perfection. Now, it’s no secret that I love both of their voices. Talk about girl crush. Up until today, I had never heard them together and it was such a joy. Their voices complemented each other, and I need more. Hearing these two amazing women perform a story of friendship was beautiful, they both nailed the emotion and the humour of the scenes, so much so that it seemed effortless. Credit worthy for sure.

I really hope there is going to be another book because I need more. This book most definitely has The Yes Factor.

3.5 stars – rounded

I’ve read a couple of titles recently which focused on characters learning to say “Yes” even when, in every other situation, they’d opt out. This is the first that is told in alternate POV form, with one’s challenge to the other becomes a growth and learning experience for them both. At different points in their lives, Bex and Liv are supportive of one another and an example of a solid friendship. While Bex is divorced and spends most of her time playing chauffeur to her teen daughter, she’s uninterested in dating or another relationship – she just hasn’t the time or the interest. But, Liv’s ‘perfect’ marriage has just dissolved, and she’s determined that even with her own life being in tumult, Bex is more than deserving of a new man and new outlook.

Thus begins the Yes Factor. Taking on the ‘say yes when you want to say no’ isn’t always the perfect way to shake up a life, but it does open you up to possibilities and potentials. Although this was ostensibly about getting Bex out of a rut, and give Liv some downtime to focus on helping someone else rather than deal with all of her own questions and regrets – there are secrets and regrets and issues worked through – in each separate point of view, although the interactions between the two is clearly a friendship and supportive, even as both are getting a bit of ‘help’.

Dialogue is witty and clever, often feeling very natural and apropos, and there are moments that are so disastrous (or put on) to seem ridiculously forced, but the general goodwill that readers get from both characters, their supportive friendship and even the flow of the story carries forward through the moments that don’t quite work. The balance of the voices and inclusion of the friendship moments – as well as the growth make this feel much more like a women's fiction with romance-like moments rather than a straight full-on romantic comedy, but easily will please readers searching for either in a lighter and easy to enjoy read.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

4.5 Stars for The Yes Factor
Erin Spence and Emma Sabler are relatively new to me but as soon as I saw the blurb for The Yes Factor I knew it was a book I would love and I wasn’t disappointed because I really enjoyed Bex and Liv’s story. This is a book that’s based on friendship even when that friend lives on the other side of the world, it’s funny, entertaining, charming and full of witty banter
Bex is a divorced mother and is busy trying to keep her and her teenage daughters life on track. When her best friend Liv flys in for a visit life is about to get very interesting because Liv is adamant it’s time for Bex to start dating again......
I loved the friendship this pair shared even when they were living so far apart, it’s something I can relate to because I moved from the UK to Australia a few years ago leaving friends behind. It really is true that you don’t need to live in each other’s pockets to still be best friends. This book has it all, it’s one of those books that has you smiling laughing and even shedding a few tears. I found myself engrossed in Bex and Liv’s story so much so I even found myself cheering them on with a glass of wine. What I did find hard to believe was this was the first book these authors have written together and I really hope they carry on giving us enjoyment from their delightful words.

I am new to both of these author’s but after reading the premise of the book, was excited to dive in!

The book is about Bex and Liv, two best friends who are in their late 30’s who find themselves at a bit of a crossroads in their lives. One a divorcee who is toying with the idea of getting back in the dating game, but has always been cautious and safe. The other who is still married but to a man who always works, and feels they have drifted a part.

Liv decides to take a spontaneous trip and decides to distract herself from her marital woes, but throwing herself into trying to find Bex a man. After some hilarious dating disasters and some soul searching, both end up knowing what they need to know for the next chapter of their lives.

A fun read with lots of funny moments. I love the idea of the Yes factor, always saying yes to something rather than no! And how with that concept comes some positives, but some dire situations.

Ideal read for romance lovers, and would be relatable for a lot of women who find themselves in similar positions to both characters.

I enjoyed this fun rom-com feeling book set in LA about best friends Liv and Bex by real life best friends Erin Spencer and Emma Sable. The story alternates perspectives of longtime best friends. Liv is living a glamorous life in London, that isn’t quite what it seems. While she may have a successful career and handsome husband with a swanky job, she also just had a dalliance with a Frenchman. Bex lives in LA with her thirteen year old daughter and while she wants to dip her toe in the dating pool she’s finding exhausting.

I loved how real the friendship between Bex and Liv was throughout the story. Spencer and Sable painted great scenes of LA that made me want to hop on a plane and go drive around and see all the sights they mentioned. This book was a quick easy read and I would be excited to read a sequel, maybe set in Liv’s hometown?

TLDR: Pick this one up for the beach or to have an LA escape in quarantine without leaving your couch!

Peace, Love, & Bacon! Say "YES" to Yes Factor!! This story is all of the awesome things: Funny, sad, empowering, REAL, sweet, swoony! It's about falling in love, but it's not a romance. Characters are relatable and just plain fun! The main story centers around the friendship between two women who don't know they are lost, but they will find themselves and come to terms with what that means. The characters are rediscovering their connection, stumbling through the modern pitfalls of dating, and taking the plunge to experience new things. I was very pleasantly surprised when (more than once) I thought I knew what was coming or how characters would interact/react, and I was so very wrong! Yes Factor is fresh, inspiring, and a feel good story that is worth the credit!

Andi and Ava are two of my favorite narrators who deliver stellar performances and blend together perfectly to deliver Liv and Becks! I was hooked from the very beginning and invested in the characters. I wish it was longer with more of what's next (which is not really a complaint at all, but begging for more)!

The Yes Factor is a fabulous read or long time friendships, being there for each other and give yes a try. I loved Liv and Bex. They have such a bond and have been through everything together. I love how Liv pushes Bex to date again. Not saying no makes for some giggling fun times. You feel the strong chemistry once Bex does find that connection. Your heart hurts for Liv and her marriage. You get why she showed up at Bex's and you just want to hug her. Liv puts on such a front once those walls fall you will love her even more. The Yes Factor is a book of friendship that you will not be able to put down. I want more Liv and Bex. I want to find out what happens to Liv once she goes back to England and I can't wait for it.

The Yes Factor is a funny, sweet, and endearing take on dating, love, and friendship. You’ll laugh and cry right along with Bex and Liv as the pages fly by too quickly, and by the time you reach the final page, you’ll have found the one thing everyone needs most. Hope. I loved how authentic and real Bex and Liv’s friendship was. They fought. They made up. Whether they were being silly, serious, or dipping their toes into way more than they had planned, their bond leapt off the page and stayed with me for days. I can’t wait to see what Erin Spencer and Emma Sable come up with next. (Not-so-secretly, I hope it’s a sequel.)

The Yes Factor is the debut novel of Erin Spencer and Emma Sable.

Following two friends who, in their late thirties, live on different sides of the Atlantic, The Yes Factor gives us a sometimes hilarious view of marriage, children, divorce and dating.

Reunited for a short time, Bex and Liv explore a 'new normal' and reconnect after many years apart.

Online dating is the 'norm' but totally alien to Bex who has been dipping her toe back into the world of dating. With Liv's encouragement, Bex has decided to say 'yes' to dating opportunities that come her way.

The outcome is alternatively laugh out loud funny, cringe worthy or head scratchingly wtf!!

All in all this debut novel makes me excited for the books that have yet to come from this collaboration.

THE YES FACTOR by Erin Spencer & Emma Sable is a fun rom com about two best friends Bex and Liv. The novel switches points of view between the two women which is nice to see each of their sides on things. There were definitely some funny moments but also some heartfelt moments. It was easy to connect with both of the characters and I was rooting for them the whole time. This book would make the perfect summer beach read!

The Yes Factor by Erin Spencer and Emma Sable is a great summer read, a stand-alone, second chances romance, well written and beautifully told.
I read the blurb and was intrigued and I'm glad I gave this book a try.
Liv and Bex are friends since forever. Liv wants for Bex to find a new love.
Bex is divorced and clutch your pearls ladies, she likes her ex-husbands new girlfriend. She's like a unicorn. A couchpotao-ing unicorn. To get of aforementioned couch, Liv dares her to say yes to all dates for a certain time.
Only, who's sitting in a glasshouse shouldn't throw stones at friends - that's all I'm saing about Liv. I really disliked her attitude.
The Yes Factor is an entertaining read, 4 beautiful stars.

Brand new authors and they did fantastic. A book about two girlfriends that come back together for an unexpected girls weekend, after many years apart. It was a nice break from the norm romance books but it still gave you the romance feel. I laughed at some of the things Liv and Bex went through while trying to get Bex back into the dating world. It was so cute and glad I had an opportunity to read this book. Can’t wait to hear what happens with Liv.

I'm glad that the story alternated from both Bex and Liv's viewpoints. Part of me was hoping that that Liv would stay in LA but it made sense that she needed to go home and do what she needed to do there first. You would think that Bex would have just paid for the app or whatever to connect with Devon again (but I get that wouldn't make for as good of a story).

I found myself laughing at the shenanigans the girls got themselves into. I hope that there is another book because this book leaves you hanging and wanting more. This book probably would of been a four star rating if Bex and Liv’s story were separate. There are things that happen that made me not like Liv for most of the book. I knew she had good intentions. I’m hoping that there will be a book two and see if maybe Liv can redeem herself. This book grabbed my attention and I read it pretty much in one sitting.

When Bex, a divorced single mom nearing 40, and Liv, her best friend, reunite for a week of fun in LA, hijinks are sure to ensue. Liv is determined to jumpstart Bex’s love life by turning Bex’s serial “No’s” into “Yes’s” as, after years of living on separate continents, the two work to rekindle their friendship. And while Liv jumps headfirst into improving Bex’s life, Bex has to wonder: what’s going on with Liv? As awkward moments, crazy dates, and personalities collide, Bex and Liv both discover the power of the “Yes” factor.

When I picked this book up, the cover and description had me anticipating a light-hearted beach read. While Spencer and Sable definitely deliver on this premise, the story itself is certainly much more. In the midst of a hilarious series of bad dates is an exploration of female friendship, the intersection of identity and romantic relationships, and the power of valuing oneself. I loved that, despite the years and distance that separated them, Bex and Liv remained friends and truly tried to support one another, even if their attempts to support were woefully misguided or inadequate. While this book advertises itself as centered on romance, I found the moments of self-reflection, forgiveness (to oneself and to friends), and the resulting personal growth to be the most compelling.

Much of the focus of the story is on Bex’s struggles with romance, but I wish more attention had been given to Liv. It’s clear from the beginning that Liv has issues of her own, but the story doesn’t really begin to tackle them until the latter half of the book. There are also moments where Bex’s forgiveness for Liv’s pushy (and frequently obnoxious) antics is easily given, which weakens the portrayal of realistic friendship at times.

That being said, I really enjoyed the story and look forward to picking up the sequel.
