An illustrative and informative book, though the typeface could've been better. I wish I had a book like this in my high school history class.

📖classroom library

I got this at the WV INVEST conference this summer with other 5th grade materials. This is a solid intro to the Civil War. The way it's organized allows for easy access to information. You really don't have to ready it cover to cover, making research and close reading easier.

I really liked that this book covered so many topics. It's a great jumping off book - you can start here and branch off to more in-depth reading depending on what students are reading for. I found out a lot of new things about the Civil War that I'd never heard of.

This is a great resource for a 5th grade classroom, both as a student selected book or as a source to cite information from.

Excellent visual look at each battle, skirmish, general, weapons, supplies, nurses, doctors, and more in the American Civil War. As my kids and I have been reading Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt (highly recommended), we’d look up each battle or event mentioned in the story. More details and facts helped flesh out what was happening on the fictional stories we’ve been reading!

This is a very good and easy to read volume. As many Americans are illiterate when it comes to the causes of the Civil War, the conflict itself and its aftermath, this would be a good book for everyone to read.
