A red fire truck races, orange pumpkins glow, and purple flowers bloom.

Filled with unexpected examples of the colors all around us, from the yellow yolk of an egg to the green of a cat's eyes, this picture book full of kid-friendly vocabulary and beautiful photography is sure to be a favorite.
When I was five, I refused to go to kindergarten. I declared it was for babies. I already knew how to read, but what really bothered me the most was that the kids mixed up the paintbrushes and colors at the easel so there was never true blue, red, yellow or green. Every time my teacher turned her back, I left the room and headed to the first grade class diagonally across the hall. Luckily, I had a friend there who happily shared her desk with me until the teacher noticed and sent me back to kindergarten. After many successful escapes, a trip to the principal and some testing, I was officially moved to that first grade class with beautiful autumn leaves painted on the door.
Wow! Yes! I can't imagine anyone who wouldn't love this well-designed book with its many panels and scenes. The brightly-colored photographs in this book feature a rainbow of colors and help youngsters either learn their colors or appreciate them even more. Starting with green--my personal favorite color--and ending with black and a question for readers about their favorite color, the book's text describes various objects that are that color while the photographs show that there are different shades to those colors. I loved the simple words chosen for the colors: "Green hops," "Blue floats," "Yellow crunches," for instance. This one is ideal for introducing the colorful natural world to youngsters.
Shelley Rotner's incredible photographs are the highlight of this beautifully-formatted book that celebrates the colors around us. Each color is introduced with a two-page spread and two words, such as "Green hops. One small picture accompanies this. (In this case, a frog.) turn the page and there are boxes with all kinds of green things, and very short free verse, naming them. Another color follows, and then another and another. This is visually stunning and incredibly beautiful. Kindergarten and preschool teachers will embrace it as a wonderful way to teach children about colors.
Colors by Shelley Rotner is a stunningly vibrant book to teach little people age 2 - 6 about colors. The photos are engaging and the layout reinforces learning the colors and facilitates discussion about the different colors in our world. Perfect for the home, school or public library collection.
Lovely way of teaching colors. A touch of synesthesia and personification, where orange glows, green hops, and yellow crunches. With great pictures and a list of what is pictured to accompany those pictures. I liked asking daphne if she could find the grapes on the purple page, or the popsicle on the orange page (even though she’s 6 months).
Always looking out for books with real photographs. This is a great one that shows some things that are only that color and some things, like backpacks, that can be that color. Great for a colors storytime.
Absolutely beautiful book with vivid colors. The book contain real photos that capture colors. Also contains the names of the photos. It really exciting to see our students jump with excitement when they see familiar pictures.
Shelley Rotner for the win, as always. Stunning pictures, brilliant colors, and a simple, well chosen text that will work fine if you just read this straight--but you will want to stop, and talk about what you are seeing on each page.
What would you expect a book called Colors to be? Well, certainly colorful and this one is. Photographs of various items of each color adorn each page, helping children quickly get a visual on each color and helping them to remember.
I am teaching my toddler colors and currently have an appreciation for books that identify various environmental objects and their colors. Very good compilation of things to reference
