When Tony signs up for the military's spouse matching program, he doesn't expect to get paired with a woman who already rejected him. Tony has never been a quitter though, and now that his future with Officer Candidate School is being threatened by his CO, he's more determined than ever to survive being married to Inara for a year. Of course, it doesn't hurt that she's beautiful, sexy, and mind-blowingly amazing. Inara has her own reasons for signing up for the program, but everything she ever thought she wanted contrasts with the man that science has paired her with. Inara wanted to make this marriage last for the rest of her life - once and done for her unlike several of her mother's failed marriages. Tony makes it downright hard, and with both unwilling to budge on the secrets and truths they keep close to them, their marriage lasting even a month is questionable. But against all odds, Tony and Inara fall into a pattern and grow comfortable with each other, which eventually turns to love. Just when everything seems to be falling in line and Tony and Inara realize they may be in this for good, someone oversteps the unspoken boundaries, and a blowup in front of Tony's CO leaves Tony's career in the toilet and their relationship devastated, perhaps, beyond repair.
I really enjoyed the characters of Tony and Inara, despite Tony being a bit of a jerk near the end of the book (hello, conflict). They were both funny and amazing in their own ways. And the dynamic that developed between the two worked really well with naturally furthering their romance without it coming across as unnatural or rushed. Of course, they are already married, but that's beside the point. The fact that Inara was more experienced than Tony in the bedroom was also hysterical, considering how much game he always talks with the women and flirting with basically anything that moves. The traumas that exist in both Tony and Inara were also really well done and seemingly brought them together and made them better partners. They struggled to work through their issues, but in the end, they were able to accept themselves and who they were and get their happily ever after. The plotline of the arranged marriages based on compatibility by the military was also pretty original and I think it made the book a lot more interesting to read since Tony and Inara originally thought they didn't match together very well.
If you enjoy strong couples, military men, or arranged marriages, you'll enjoy this book. And even if you don't, the romance between Tony and Inara was great and their interactions with side characters were always funny.
