Matt Higgans stops by the new pagan shop, Mystic Gyspy Moon every day on his way from school, where he waits outside for a few minutes before passing on. On the day he finally goes in, a stone seems to call to him. The shop owner gives him the stone on the condition that he returns if he sees anything interesting.
Matt can feel the stone at all times and it almost begins to encapsulate him. His dreams are filled with horrific images. Destroying the stone doesn't seem to work, and it draws Matt further in.

Matt, a curious young man, finally gathers his courage and enters a store his mother would never approve of. The Mystic Gypsy Moon is an occult pagan shop in his town. His mother considers anyone who shops there to be “devil-worshipers”. Though discomforted by the noise the crystals made, Matt chose a green stone with black veins. Just holding the stone filled him with warmth and contentment.

Every time he holds the stone in his hand, he loses more and more time. His dreams turn into nightmares. Scared by his visions, he returns to the store for help. The owner of the store binds and cleanses the stone to help prevent the nightmares. Matt follows all of the instructions, he asks for cleansing from the Goddess and God, and throws the stone into the river. When he returns home the stone is waiting on his computer. Every time he tries to get rid of it, it returns.

The dream sequences in the story made my skin crawl. If you like horror and short stories, I recommend this book.

Kept me looking over my shoulders!!

The author, Patrick J. Murphy III, does an amazing job of creating a simple, yet creepy story that makes you look over your shoulder while reading. This is a cautionary tale of "be careful what you bring home with you". The ending had me reeling and wanting more! Will definitely be reading more of Patrick's work!
