Astrid Jensen holds one man responsible for her mother’s suicide, and she’ll do whatever’s necessary to get close to Daniel Holst and destroy his life – even if it means sleeping with him to gain his trust. Astrid knows he’s not who he pretends to be. But before she can reveal his dark secret, people from her mother’s past start turning up dead, and it looks like she and Daniel are next. In order to survive, she might have to put her trust in the man she has hated for so long.

Daniel Holst has worked hard to climb into Norway’s most elite and glamorous circles, and he’s not about to let any woman bring him down. But when a psychopathic killer starts murdering people from his shadowy past, he discovers that the only person who might be able to save him is the woman who wants to destroy him.

As Astrid digs deeper into her past, she uncovers secrets long buried and realizes everything she once believed is based on lies. What began as a quest to avenge her mother’s death becomes a desperate struggle for survival and leads to the truth about what happened one fatal night ten years ago—and the surprising mastermind behind the most recent murders.

This is a suspense mystery/thriller. This book is fill with suspense and drama. This is a short fast pace book. This book in a nutshell is about the fact Astrid Jensen's mother committed suicide, and now she is looking to find the one man she thinks is the reason her mother committed suicide. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

3☆ A Gritty Crime Noir, Filled with Secrets, Lies, Murder and Revenge!

ONE FATAL NIGHT is a gritty crime noir, that entangled revenge, crime, danger, murder, secrets and lies.

I enjoyed reading this intriguing novel, however for me it just felt like something was missing. The start of the story was full of intrigue and premise, and I had high Hope's for it.
But then a few pages in I began to feel lost.
It was as if I had been dropped into a story from the middle.

The Characters are a flawed and complex bunch, each with their own secrets and lies to hide, which I did like. I just wish I had more character building from the beginning.

There are plenty of twists and turns along the way to keep you on your toes. Packed full of action, suspicion, drama, suspense and murder.
The chapters are nice and short, making this a quick and enjoyable read.

Astrid Jensen is looking for the man who was responsible for her mother's suicide. She's also looking for her father.. a man she's never met. Are they one and the same?

People from her mother's past start dying ... will she be next?

This is a short read .. less than 200 pages. While I was not enthralled with this book, it wasn't the worst I've ever read. I could not get into this one ... I didn't connect with the characters at all. This is the first I've read of this author. I know the author has other books out there ...and I might try one of those. This one may have been an anomaly.

Many thanks to the author / Cameron Publicity & Marketing Ltd / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

This is a short novel (133 pages) but is certainly full of action and intrigue.

The novel tells of Astrid's attempt to revenge the man she considers responsible for her mothers murder. But typically there is much more to what she thought happened and what actually occurred.

A decent quick read that many people enjoyed so who am I to argue but didn't really push my buttons.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Cameron Publicity & Marketing Ltd for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Esto sonaba tan interesante, solo que al ser una novela de suspenso corta, todo pasa demasiado rápido y el desarrollo de la historia es muy malo, no me gusto nada.

When we meet Astrid it is obvious she is a woman on a mission to destroy Daniel, her boss. Daniel to start with irked me slightly. He comes across as being your typical male chauvinist. This is someone who uses people and doesn’t care who gets hurt in the process. I was actually looking forward to Astrid pulling him down a peg or two.

As the story goes along, we get to see more of the working relationship between Daniel and his right hand man, Joel. They seem to have a murky history of which I was keen to find out more. By the end, my perception of certain characters I have to say did change.

I like how the story starts off in one direction and then goes off course just as you think you know whats going to happen. It’s definitely a case of not being able to out run the past and it all catching up with some shocking surprises.

One Fatal Night is an engrossing novella that I read in one sitting. The story has a bit of everything going on with deception, murder, mystery and suspense as well as mayhem. The sense of fear as the pace picks up, kept me on my toes. The story builds up to a good climax of which I particularly liked how it all ends. A good solid read.

*** Note : I received e-copy of this book as part of blog tour. Many thanks to Emma for tour invite and author for providing review copy. ***

One Fatal Night was intriguing novella that revolved around three characters tangled by one fatal night when a woman was murdered. It was about revenge, deception, crime, troubled past, regrets and guilt, dysfunctional family, domestic abuse and its impact on kids and their mental health.

Writing was straight forward, fast paced that kept me hooked to story from the beginning. It was multiple third person narrative that gave closer look to all characters. Setting of Norway and syndicate crime was interesting. I was surprised to read so much crime in Norway and Nordic countries. Plot was twisted filled with revenge. Characters were mysterious and developed. They all made mistakes in life and were unlikable at the beginning but soon my opinion changed along with Astrid.

I liked the positivity shown through Daniel and Joel’s life the most. The will, determination and human strength can make it possible to come out of horrible family and past and live good life. There were some good twist and turns but some events felt too coincidental and implausible. Events between climax and end was movie like, not something I haven’t read or seen before.

Overall, One Fatal Night was quick, intriguing and thrilling read with developed characters and secrets, suspense and drama.

This is my first read by this author though it won’t be my last as this is a great read.

Astrid blames David for her mother’s suicide so she will do whatever she can to seek revenge. Daniel is a wealthy business man with his own secrets.

I thought this was a great read and read it in one sitting. The storyline is well thought out and had my attention from start to finish.

First, I want to thank Helene Fermont and BOTBSPublicity for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

WOW!! One Fatal Night by Helene Fermont was intense and fast paced. This book will have you on the seat of your chair with all different questions leading up to the final answers at the end of the book.

Helene’s dedication to her book I totally adored and could relate to full heartedly. It is dedicated to all the people whose lives turned out different than they wanted them to. Always remember that nobody and nothing is as they do what they seem.

I absolutely loved the name Astrid for the main character. It is very unique and not used much in books. She was my favorite character in the book. I loved learning about her past to find out how it related to the present story.. She is written as a very strong woman in this book who had been through a lot. For that reason I wanted to give her a hug.

Helene did an incredible job keeping us on our toes with the twists, turns, shocking moments I didn’t see coming. She has a gift for writing in this genre.

What a great read this book is. The action revolves around three main characters Astrid, Daniel and Joel. As with every good story they are all not what they appear to be, all hiding their secrets.

Astrid is seeking the man who she believes caused her mothers death, but when she is close enough to exact her revenge, she discovers everything she thought she knew, may not be the truth.

Daniel is moving up in the world but his past is never far behind. Someone is killing previous acquaintances, is he to be next?

I love how well developed all the characters are in this novella. Highly recommended.

Astrid Jensen's mother committed suicide when she was much younger. She is now determined to find that man who was the cause of her mother's suicide. She thinks she knows who this man is, but when she starts to get closer to this man, many secrets start to come to light. Is the man she thought caused her mother's suicide really that man or is he maybe the father she never knew or maybe he is the one to help her find all the answers? The idea of this story was better than the story itself for me. This book is less than 150 pages and probably should have been longer. If there was more character development and background story or if so much did not happen so fast, I think this story could have been better. I am giving this a 3 star review. Thank you to NG, the publisher, and the author for allowing me to read this book.

This book has quite a curious start. Astrid is flirting with her boss Daniel and as it goes further the author brings a sense of revulsion into play. Astrid has ulterior motives for getting close to this man. Daniel#s second in command as such is Joel, he is head of security and also the two have been best mates for years.

The story of the past is gradually revealed in this fast-paced mystery thriller. I was soon quickly turning the pages as I greedily wanted to know more about why and how the characters in this story are connected.

Now, I did mention it was fast-paced, at times I felt it was a little too fast, not a criticism as such but I would have liked a little more. I found the jumps between the links came a little too thick and fast and this gave the impression of it being too coincidental. Putting that aside though it was very addictive reading and I did think the story was well presented.

The author does touch on some hard subjects, and I am glad that not too many details were described, enough to give a basic idea of awful acts being committed. The author instead focused more on how these acts gave certain characters a reason for why they behave as they do now.

This is quite a gritty mystery thriller read, it is a shortish story, more a novella that I read over the course of an afternoon. A fast, suspense-filled, mysterious story set in Norway that I think readers will enjoy and I would be happily recommend.

I enjoyed this book and found it to be a real page turner with an addictive plot and I LOVE that cover – it suits the story so well.

I thought that the story was well developed, it was set at the perfect pace for the story and I loved the writing style. The characters were well developed too and worked well with the plot.

The story had plenty going on and there was something happening in pretty much every chapter – and I loved that – I love a book that hold my attention and keeps me on my toes as I read and this one certainly ticked those boxes!

It is 5 stars from me for this one, another great story from this author and I am already very much looking forward to her next release!! Very highly recommended!!

One Fatal Night by Hélene Fermont

Fast-paced twisted story that had me wondering what would happen next. Beginning to read I knew that revenge was the basis of this story…and in some ways it was…but there was a whole lot more than that involved in this novella. Even though Astrid wanted revenge for her mother’s murder at first she began to question whether or not her information related to the murder was as accurate as she thought it was. In a book about revenge, murder, loss, dysfunctional families, rags to riches successes, crime syndicates and more this book was jam packed with interesting well-crafted characters, a plot that twisted and turned with surprises throughout that left me thinking I had the answers only to have the plot twist again. Definitely a page turner!

What I liked:
* The setting in Norway
* The twists, turns and surprises
* The mystery of who killed Ingrid and why
* The mystery of who Astrid’s father might be
* How clues were eked out related to the pasts of many of the characters
* That there was more to the characters than first supposed
* That eventually the bad guys met justice
* That there was a happily ever after for at least one couple

What I did not like:
* The bad guys
* That so many in the story had difficult childhoods

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Thank you to the author and BOTBS Publicity for the ARC – This is my honest review.

If there's one thing that I like doing, it's discovering new authors. I especially love discovering new authors, who write psychological thrillers that mess with your head a bit. Helene Fermont ticks both boxes. Judging by how much I enjoyed 'One Fatal Night', I will definitely be reading more of Helene's work in the future. I absolutely loved 'One Fatal Night' but more about that in a bit.
I was drawn into this book from the moment I read the synopsis. I just couldn't wait to start reading. When I started to read the story that was it. To say that 'One Fatal Night' was addictive has to be one of the biggest understatements of the year. 'One Fatal Night' is a novella and I read it in one sitting. Usually I have the attention span of a gnat and I am easily distracted but not in this case. There was that much going on in the story that I didn't dare let my attention wander for any length of time. I raced through the story and I was disappointed that the book had to end at all.
'One Fatal Night' is really well written. Helene has quite an easy going writing style that slowly but surely draws you into the story. Once Helene has your attention, she will not let you have it back until the moment you have read the last word on the last page. 'One Fatal Night' was one of those books that gripped me from start to finish and had me on the edge of my seat throughout. I had my own suspicions as to how the story was going to pan out and of course I had the wrong end of the stick. You could say that 'One Fatal Night' certainly kept me guessing and on my toes.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'One Fatal Night' and I would definitely recommend it to other readers. I will be reading more of Helene's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

With amazingly strong female characters and gripping plots, I always really enjoy Hélene Fermont's novels so I was excited to read her novella, One Fatal Night. It may be a novella but Hélene Fermont sure packs a lot into it; it's definitely a case of quality over quantity in this case.

At less than 150 pages, it's a book that you can easily read in one sitting especially when the storyline gets its hooks into you. Every action that Astrid takes is one step closer to getting revenge for her mother's murder. Thinking that he killed her mother, Astrid sets out to seduce her boss, Daniel, but when Daniel becomes a target himself Astrid realises that she doesn't know the whole story. To get revenge she needs to find out what really happened on that fatal night.

I really can't get over how much is in this novella; the story digs deep into the past and the characters feel well developed. Hélene Fermont certainly chooses her words carefully and the writing style makes the storytelling very efficient, which is just what you need so you don't feel like you're skimming the surface in a novella.

The story is very character driven and I really liked Astrid until the end when I didn't agree with her choice, but each to their own; it just felt a little too creepy for me. I loved how the story unfolded piece by piece and it feels like everyone is drawn to each other for whatever reason without even realising it.

One Fatal Night is a quick but quality read; it's an intriguing and gripping story of revenge and deeply buried secrets.

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Daniel Holst appears to have it all. He's a successful businessman with a shady past.

Astrid works for Daniel but she has never met her boss. She has a hidden agenda as Daniel is the missing link to her mother who was murdered.

They start a relationship, falling for each other more than what either intended.

People from each of their crossed pasts start to turn up dead they realise someone is out to get them. They must work together in order to stay alive.

This book has it all, romance, thrills and lies. I wish the ending could have been eeked out slightly but that is my only criticism in what is a fab read.

What starts off as a tale of revenge, soon turns into a tale of survival. One Fatal Night turned out to be an exciting thriller that I enjoyed reading.

Although this book is short and quick, it does not lack excitement. The author did a very nice job in keeping the pace fast. Also, there are quite a few twists and turns and new characters introduced that add well to the plot. There is not much suspense as we know who the murderer is midway. However, it is very thrilling to see how the characters track down the culprits and learn the motives behind their crimes. Moreover, the author did a very nice job in keeping the plot on point and not digressing from the story.

Also, I really liked Astrid and Daniel in the lead. While I did not really care for them as a couple, I thought they made a very good team to solve the mystery. Joel is also a complex character who stands out. The villains are unpredictable and you really know how they would react.

However, my only criticism to the story was how convoluted it got in the middle. After a certain point, you feel like all the characters are related to one another. This was confusing and felt a bit incestuous at times. Hence, I had to backtrack at certain areas to recall how one person knew the other.

Apart from that “ One Fatal Night ” is a gripping and entertaining read. If you are in the mood for a short, fast-paced, crime thriller, you should read this!

For a book that is only 133 pages long, One Fatal Night packs one hell of a punch! Everything about this book drew me in. From the striking cover that sets off the sinister tone of the book perfectly, the intriguing plot and of course Helene herself, this book ticked all of the boxes for me and I throughly enjoyed every word of it.

The story sees Astrid hell bent on bringing down the man who she holds responsible for her mother’s murder and she will do whatever it takes to make him pay. But things aren’t so clear cut and the deeper she goes in finding out what happened, she must face that everything she thought she knew was based on lies.

The book starts out strong and Helene is able to keep up that momentum throughout, barely taking her foot off the accelerator, as she adds twists and turns along the way, to throw you off course. I thought I was pretty good at guessing where the story was going to go, but I could not have been more wrong…

I really enjoyed the characters in the story but the standout for me was definitely Astrid. A strong independent woman, although quite vulnerable, she has been written extremely well and just comes to life beautifully through Helene’s words. The other characters have been portrayed well and are assets to the story.

This is only the second book I have read of Helene’s, but she has quickly become an author whose books I look forward to. I really love her style and how she just gets on with things, without getting to bogged down in the details. Her plots are always well thought out and structured perfectly, which makes for an enjoyable reading experience.

If you are looking for a quick read, with great characterisation and a story that will have you enthralled and on the edge of your seat from start to finish, then this is the book for you. It was an absolute pleasure to read and review One Fatal Night which I highly recommend.

Thank you to Helene Fermont for allowing me to read an advanced copy of One Fatal Night which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Preface: I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review
Actual rating: 1.5 stars

Reading this book was like experiencing a fever dream. It dumps you in with absolutely no preparation or explanation, and just expects you to hang on for dear life while it barrels through all of its plot points to the end. There's no breather moments, no time for characters to develop or grow on us, just nonsensical plot beat after plot beat. If you've ever seen the 1994 Spiderman cartoon, it feels a lot like that - an hour of content smashed into cartoon-length episodes.

Unfortunately, even if the story had more time to breathe, I'm not sure it would be good. The characters aren't particularly likable, especially Astrid, who is just a damsel with no real personality. There was an attempt at some misdirection/moral grayness in the two male characters, Joel and Nathan (might be misremembering his name, I don't know), but it isn't handled well. Joel, for example, is attracted to minors, but it's hand-waved as being a result of "abuse" and is totally under control. Right. The main "romance" is also super creepy and weird, and has literally no development.

The plot is filled with bizarre contrivances and improbable coincidences. The dialogue is clunky and stiff (possibly translated from the author's native language)? Characters act irrationally, and the villains are all over-the-top and silly.

Overall, I would not recommend this to any reader.

One Fatal Night is a really fast paced, crime thriller and it pulls no punches.  Helene's no nonsense approach to story telling packs a punch and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat from start to finish.

As the narrative unravels we learn about the three main characters and their past.  Daniel owns a business and is a wealthy man however this has not always been the case. He has secrets that he wants to hide and he would rather they stay hidden.  The only other person who shares these are Joel, his security officer. Or that's what they both think.  Astrid knows something and is seeking revenge however there's another game at play and Astrid realises she may not know the complete truth.

For a novella with a racing plot, Helene has developed the characters well.  Daniel initially appears as a dodgy guy with a terrible past but there's more to him than that.  Joel is more unlikable and is written well as a sleazy and awful guy.  Astrid's character has the right balance of vulnerability and toughness to make her relatable and interesting.

Small hints are dropped around the full nature of the secret but they aren't revealed quickly - keeping the pages turning and making this a novella that is difficult to put down.

Astrid is a young woman who has her sights set on destroying her boss. Her boss Daniel and his right hand man, Joel are determined to not let anything get in the way of their success and in no way will let anyone know about their past. Astrid’s mother supposedly committed suicide 10 years ago, when she was a young girl and she was left alone in foster care. When she was 16 she tried to find her father but she never could. She believes Daniel is the reason behind her mother’s death because he left her all those years ago and she is determined to bring him down because of it. As Daniel and Joel’s past ‘colleagues’ begin to die around them, can they keep ahead of the killer? Can Astrid trust that what she knows is the truth?
The biggest appeal for me was the crime theme and mystery around everyones lives. It was nice to see that all three of their lives were intertwined in one way or another and to see their stories come together.
There were a lot of unexpected twists that were great to read and there was some building suspense about who killed Astrid’s mother and why. I would’ve enjoyed the story more if there was more of a connection between things happening and the characters. It seemed that plot points would jump quickly from one thing to another with no real explanation. With that being said, I especially enjoyed Astrid being a strong female character who knew what she wanted and how she was going to get it, but also that she was able to look past her judgements and open up to the people she never thought she would.
One Fatal Night is a fast paced read, that I finished in a day. I liked the characters and the idea of the story but I did find things happened too fast with no real connection sometimes. Instead of being a novella, I think there was space for it to be fleshed out a bit and could include more about the relationships, especially Daniel and Astrids.
Overall it was a good read and had a few twists and turns that I was not expecting. If you are looking for a quick mystery read then this will be perfect for you.

One hits the ground running in this fast-paced suspense thriller. Astrid Jensen is out to avenge her mother's death and her two targets are onto her. As she plays a cat and mouse game with the wealthy businessman Daniel Holst and his security consultant Joel Changer, bodies are starting to pile up.

Most of the characters in this thriller are emotionally scarred from tragic pasts, so the atmosphere is dark and bleak. As their backgrounds unfold and their stories start to meld together by all kinds of disturbing and unbelievable revelations, the tension mounts when an extremely pitiful and psychotic killer exacts his revenge.

Overall, the story is depressing and full of misery and secrets, but eventually, there is a light at the end of the tunnel however uncomfortable it made this reader feel. Hang on psychological thriller fans, you're in for a gripping and mercurial ride in 133 dramatic pages.

Thank you to Ms. Fermont for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.

Fast paced thriller that reminded me of Will Dean and Steve Cavanagh's police procedural characters. Heart-stopping Nordic Noir that will keep you wanting more. The twists and turns came at just the right moments to keep you guessing and wanting to know more. I loved the good Vs bad guy element and loved how much depth the characters were given considering how short a book this is. This is a real 'man hunt' style thriller but I also enjoyed how it was intertwined with the stories of Daniel and Joel's troubled upbringing.

The elements of positivity and hope that shone through regarding troubled pasts and how that doesn't have to impact your future is a great message to take away.

I loved the ending! Will definitely be on the hunt for more from this author.

This is a super quick read, it's only 133 pages and it packs a punch with every page. There's no faffing around with descriptive writing.

Astrid is out to avenge the death of her mother. But, little does she know that she is about to get entangled in a web of deceit and lies. Someone is out there even more hell bent on revenge. Will Astrid survive? Will she ever find out the truth?

I enjoyed the fast paced style of this book, it kept you gripped to the end. There were times however that I was a bit muddled as to who all the characters were, and where they were. But, once I got back on track and could follow who's who. I strapped in and enjoyed the ride.

One Fatal Night is a thrilling and captivating read. Will Astrid get revenge? Or will someone else get to her first? Don't make a fatal error, go buy the book!!

Heléne Fermont’s new novella One Fatal Night is a book with just 150 pages, but boy it has enough story to keep you going!
Astrid is certain that her boss, Daniel, is her mothers killer, she sets out to seduce him. As time goes on it becomes clear that he has become a target also. Astrid certainly realises she doesn’t know the full story. So she needs to learn what happened on that fatal night to get real revenge!
This is a short book with so much packed into it, Hélene has managed to delve into the past as well as develop her characters so well. I actually felt like this could have been a full-length novel as usually you don’t feel like you are really into the story with a novella but I found this one an exception to the rule. One Fatal Night is a quick, intriguing and thrilling read.

Do not be fooled by the mere 176 pages. Whilst this is a Novella, it has all the ingredients for a fully fledged Novel. I wont lie to you, I secretly wish it was!

This was my first foray into the written words of Helene Fermont. Let me tell you, I cant even begin to imagine how a novel written by her would read after delving into One Fatal Night. Helene is one talented lady. It is not often I come across a Novella that is not only a stand alone but is written so well.

This can be easily read in one sitting, which was a good thing as I just couldn’t put it down.

One Fatal Night is a captivating read which will not disappoint. With a well developed plot and believable characters, you will be on the edge of your seat throughout.

You will be taken on a roller coaster ride of a buried past catching up with Daniel Holt, one of the main protagonists. Mental health conditions of a daughter (Astrid) who lost her Mother at a young age and a severely unbalanced father who was subjected to abuse as a child. Secrets will be unravelled, murder at the forefront and the undertones of a blossoming romance. Yes, I know I said I’m not a fan of romance but lets face it, no story is complete without even hinting a it!

An electrifying thriller, with plot twists that will have you chewing your nails and certainly not for those with a nervous disposition.

I received this book from at Love Books Group Blog Tour in exchange for an honest review.
