How I rate:
I don't compare across genres. So I don't think, oh, that book I just read isn't as good as Pride and Prejudice when that book is advice on car maintenance. If it's a piece of comedy, I compare it to other comedies and ask myself if the book stood up to the claims on the cover. If it's a short book, I don't compare it to long books I've read. Has it fulfilled the purpose within the constraints set out by the author? These things would help get a five star rating.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I thought I would. Normally I would avoid a book which describes itself as a “whacky” romantic comedy on the cover, but I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

Basically, this is a formulaic romance but what sets it apart for me is the likeability of the characters. There are exceptions, of course.

Perdita is charming, and incredibly naïve about sex. This is just about believable when her background comes to light. Her use of botanical terms for anything related to human reproduction could grate, but actually becomes quite endearing.

Luke and Gavin are the couple who live next door to her in their block of flats in Clifton, and give her plenty of much-needed support throughout her various escapades.

Perdita has been wondering why she never attracts boyfriends, and takes the advice of a delightful old lady called Violet Freestone on how to make herself more alluring. Unfortunately, the advice works too well, and Perdita finds she has been “pollinated.”

Events throughout just get getting funnier and funnier as the book progresses. I am amazed at the way the author has managed to maintain the fast pace of the storyline and fill it with so many humorous incidents at the same time. I shall look out for more from her.

Love & Pollination was a lovely book that I managed to read over a holiday weekend and enjoy immensely.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Love & Pollination' by Mari Jane Law

This is Mari's DEBUT novel, not that you would ever think that!!! It is also the first book in Mari's 'Love & Mishaps Quirky Romantic Comedy' series. The next two books in this series are available to purchase NOW and make you sure you return on the 23rd February where I will be reviewing the second book 'Love In The Cupboard' which I will be getting stuck into as soon as i have finished typing this!!!

OMG!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE, LOVE ,LOVED THIS BOOK, AN ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, LAUGH OUT LOUD AND PAGE TURNING MUST READ!!

The first thing I have got to say is an absolutely HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the amazing author Mari Jane Law!! I was absolutely mind blown when I had finished this stunning page turner, went to add the rest of her books to my wish list and realised that it is actually her debut book!! What an absolutely EPIC debut novel it is and if THIS is what you can create for your very first book then I just cannot wait to see what on Earth you will come out with next!! You seriously have to grab your copy of this absolutely gorgeous page turner today!! The descriptions, the characters and the absolutely brilliant and hilarious storyline!!! I mean seriously I cannot describe just how funny and heart warming this book is!!! There are just no words. I mean I'll try but my advice is stop reading this review and GET YOUR COPY NOW!!! If you love romance, humour, feel good books, comedy, sweet, enemy to lovers stories… Do you know what...whatever you like to read just give this a go and you will NOT regret it!!! As you can tell I thoroughly enjoyed this addictive and sweet page turner!!! In this brilliant book we meet Perdita Riley who has got to be the most naïve person I have EVER "met"!! She is the only 28 year old I have ever "met" that is not just a virgin but has no idea about literally ANYTHING to do with sex. Before she met Tony she had not even kissed anyone. To be fair she was brought up by nuns but she did go to university so is smart when it comes to other things. As everyone knows there are consequences to having sex and especially unprotected sex. Well, when Perdita does end up having her first kiss as well as losing her virginity with Tony who she has been wanting for a long time she discovers several things. Firstly, that Tony was not impressed when he discovers she was a virgin who had no idea about contraception, secondly that Tony is nothing but a womaniser and thirdly that when you do have unprotected sex you can get pregnant, or as she puts in when she finds out she is "pollinated". Things go from bad to worse when a tragedy in Japan leads to her favourite work client Violet to lose ALOT of money. Perdita worked as a financial adviser but ended up quitting. If THAT wasn't bad enough Violet's nephew Saul is absolutely livid that Perdita lost his aunt her money and decides to kidnap her and demand she works and lives with him looking after her Aunt. That is all I am going to say about the storyline as this is a book you just HAVE to read for yourselves!! If you want to find out Saul's reaction when he eventually discovers that he kidnapped a pregnant woman who is now living with him and Violet then you will have to grab your copy of this book today and I can promise that you will not regret it. I advise that you order the rest of the books in the series at the same time as once you have read and fallen in love with this you will want to get stuck straight into the next one!! With a storyline ram packed with humour, romance, naivety, a cat called Frank, disasters, secrets, friendship and so, so much more what on EARTH are you waiting for?? This book is a real pick me up and will definitely turn any frown upside down!! It captured my attention from the very first page and kept me glued to the pages until the very last word and definitely left me wanting more!! Mari's fantastic writing skills and vivid descriptions will put the reader in the storyline along with Perdita, Saul and Violet ensuring you see and feel everything that they are! I was genuinely absolutely mind blown when I realised that this is actually Mari's DEBUT novel as it is written as if it is her 100th!! If this is what she came up with for her debut then I cannot wait to see how this series continues on!! This is one of those fantastic books that is perfect to read anywhere and everywhere from curled up next to a roaring fire to sunning yourself on a beach as regardless of where you are Mari will whisk you away with the storyline!! I absolutely devoured this book in one sitting as there was no way I could put it down!! Each and every time I even thought about it to get some actual house work done the characters called me back to demand their attention!! The chapters are quite short which is ideal to pick up and read a few here and there whether on a break or on a bus, the problem is trying to put it down!! Be warned to stay away from hot drinks while reading this as there are so many laugh out loud moments that, if you are anything like me, you will actually end up with a coffee fountain after making the mistake of drinking it while reading and coming across an absolutely hilarious moment!! One of the things I really enjoyed about this storyline is that it is unique to me as I had never read a storyline like it which always makes a lovely change after reading so many books as it is getting harder and harder to find something new. An absolutely brilliant read that will make your day brighter!

Clear your schedules and grab the tissues as you get lost in this laugh out loud, addictive page turner!!

I absolutely loved the larger than life, unique and just fantastic characters that Mari has created for this book!! Thanks to her fantastic descriptions it truly feels like you are right next to Perdita, Sau and Violet throughout. I absolutely loved meeting them and was rooting for them throughout. The only thing I struggled with at times was the fact that Perdita was SOOOOOOO naïve as I struggled to believe anyone could be that bad! However,! did I love watching the personalities and confidence change and develop from the start to the finish as well as friendships and relationships. All of the characters are unique with their own personalities, weaknesses, flaws and strengths and I loved meeting and getting to know them all. The only downfall with the characters is that they are entirely fictional even though Mari brings them to life unfortunately, no matter how much I would love to, I am unable to meet up with them in the real world!! I was completely invested in them all throughout and I was gutted when the time came to say Goodbye! Mari truly does an absolutely amazing job of bringing the story to life and the characters leap out of the pages as your turning them thanks to her evocative writing skills and I enjoyed getting to meet them all!! It really goes to show how talented she is creating such a wonderful storyline and all these brilliant characters in her debut book and on that note I am off to read 'Love In the Cupboard Next'!

Clear your schedules as this is one gorgeous, hilarious and unputdownable stunner ❤️

Overall an absolutely gorgeous book that will sweep you away, make you laugh out loud!!!

I loved this wonderfully charming, hilariously quirky and well written rom-com with a protagonist I found utterly endearing. Perdita could easily be the adorably sweet (though naive) cousin of Bridget Jones and her love interest,Saul gives off major Mark Darcy vibes.

Perdita Riley is facing the greatest dilemma of her life. She’s just lost her job for not being comfortable with the ethics surrounding her companies’ investment policies. But this isn’t even the biggest dilemma she’s facing.

Having taken her clients’ advice on how to make herself more alluring, Perdita finds herself in the arms of a womaniser she’s been crushing on for weeks, only to now have to deal with a life changing setback. Well, the setback isn’t huge yet but it won’t be long before it is.

After trying to cheer herself up, Perdita spends the day shopping only to land literally, into the lap of Saul Hadley—her client’s nephew. As she fights her growing attraction for Saul she’ll have to deal with the setback for it’s going to become very real in the next nine months…

This was an incredibly addictive and hilarious rom-com I literally couldn’t put down. I absolutely loved Perdita and just wanted to give her a huge cuddle. Saul was rather surly but he did eventually grow on me.

I also really liked Perdita’s friends Gavin and Luke who were really supportive of her throughout her “pollination”.

There were soo many miscommunications, mishaps and mixups that I did truly feel for Perdita, honestly for a while it felt like she was the most unlucky person but the ending more than made up for it!

If you love your rom-coms with Bridget Jones level catastrophes and hilarious mishaps then I’d definitely recommend giving this a read.

Also a huge thank you to Mari Jane Law and Hygge Book Tours for the ebook

Firstly, I want to start by thanking Mari for taking a big risk in asking me to review this book. If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that it’s not very often I pick up a rom-com read. But this year I’m trying very hard to try books out of my comfort zone and when Mari got in touch asking if I would be interested in reading it I knew I had to give it ago. So, I would like to thank Mari for taking the risk and for sending me a physical copy of the book.

Now for the moment of truth was Mari’s book a hit or a miss??

Well, I’m delighted to say it was a massive hit!!!

As I said at the start I don’t read many rom-coms as I find most of them end up with similar sorts of storylines and to me nearly every book starts to feels the same, but not this one. This one was different it was more originally. There were some great silly moments that had me giggling, while at the same time had the perfect amount of seriousness added.

There is a great cast of characters, all different and unique in their own ways. But the main character Perdita is the one to look out for. I wasn’t sure about her character at the first as she came across as quite naïve and clueless and rather an unreliable character, but as you read on you actually start feeling sorry for her and realise she is just an innocent hard working person. By the end her character actually ended up being my favourite.

Love & Pollination was an easy and delightful to read. If you’re looking for a well written rom-com that will have you giggling and grinning during your read then this is definitely a book to try out.

I took a break from my exhausting schedule of being not-like-other-girls-you-guys to read a cheesy British romcom. I was pleasantly surprised. Well, first I was confused, then I was mildly put-off, then I was amused, then I wondered why we don't call them "zebra crossings" in America, then eventually I was pleasantly surprised. This one ticks a lot of romcom boxes, good and bad, but it's charming and light hearted and fun. Love & Pollination is more than a romantic comedy. It is educational and a must read for men who determine to understand the love in their life. It is a book written for young women by a woman.

The book starts with the colour of its cover. The various shades of pink invoke fantasy and welcomes readers to the fragile yet courageous Perdita, the lost child (p.96).

Perdita made awful lot of mistakes under circumstances that she was unaware of. Instead of moaning about her ill fate, she gracefully faced her ever-increasing setbacks and admirably made the best out of every situation. In the time of the on-going pandemic, it is a good read. The story brings us hope and lands us on an oasis intact of Covid-19.

The plot was comparable to Shakespeare’s Mid-Summer Night’s Dream. Everything that should not have happened, happened. The lives of the characters were entwined. Each one walked straight into each other’s existence at extraordinary hours and in bewildering situations, as in how Saul kidnapped Perdita in a shopping centre (p.90):

After sliding the scarf free from her neck, Perdita replaced it on the shelf. She wanted to go home. Turning, she noticed that a man with dark-brown hair, who had to be well over six feet, was about to career into her… She stretched out a hand to steady him, but he snatched his arm away and glared at her with gunmetal eyes. Frozen, she just stood there and then felt the clutch of his hand on her shoulder… ‘I need you to come with me. You owe it to me. You owe it to—'

Mari Jane Law firmly believed in female capability. She picked up the most unimaginable scenario for a modern 28-year old woman, who was intellectually capable, but paradoxically a complete disaster in her own romantic life. Depicted as an orphan raised by Catholic nuns, Law justified Perdita’s believable existence in the 21st Century. Perdita’s ignorance about men and sex landed her in the first and foremost setback. However, Law made clear that being women in this era, one can turn the tide.

Law had a special talent in using her words. Might it be her desire to represent Perdita’s purity, she euphemised all vocabulary items relating to human sex acts into plant growth – another interesting area for readers to explore.

I most appreciate Law’s attempt to ease prejudices against gay couples. The helpful, gentle and protective nature of Luke and Gavin was appropriately described and matched with those I have met in real life.

To fully enjoy the comic bits of the book, we now need an appreciative film producer who could interpret the humorous writing in the story as in pages 83-84, 88-89, 104, 146, 155-156, 222, 275, 305.

This is an interesting book to read for relaxation and for a bit of laughter.

This is a wonderfully written, fast paced and charming story about the very naive Perdita. Growing up in a convent and being brought up by catholic nuns has left her having a rather sheltered life so far and boy is she in for a few shocks!

We immediately learn that Perdita has been fired from her job because she doesn’t agree with some of the things that she’s being asked to do, so the management asks her to leave. This little setback puts her in a very tricky situation as she needs money to pay her rent and also her loan from the orphanage.
She has also had a very awkward first sexual encounter with a guy called Tony who is a sly, womanising weasel - the details surrounding this rendezvous are nothing short of hilarious!

Luke and Gavin are Perdita’s two gay friends who are always there to offer support and advice - their advice is often questionable but sets up some amazing one liners - I’m talking laugh out loud stuff here! These two are probably my favourite characters! I love the chemistry between them!

It soon becomes clear that Perdita is pregnant - or pollinated as she prefers to put it. A bee has been attracted to a brightly coloured flower - Her being the flower and the womanising guy Tony from her first sexual experience happens to be the bee - Perdita has a way of explaining things so that everything is kind of pink, fluffy and sugar coated, this is one of the many things that makes her such a lovable character!

I must mention another lovable character here and that is Frank the cat! No story is complete without an adorable fluff ball prowling around! He makes several appearances which adds a comforting feeling to the whole story - yes I am a cat lady, feel free to judge me!

So, Perdita has been ‘pollinated’ by Tony but she has her eyes set on a guy called Saul who kidnapped her earlier on in the story - another hilarious twist!

The story continues to evolve in a speedy and charming way, unpredictable situations come about and there are so many funny incidents that kept me turning the pages long into the night! I wasn’t able to predict what might come next at any point and there was a laugh or smile on almost every page!

The story also has another side, behind all of the comedy the message is clear - no matter what your situations and circumstances are, you can always change things, there are always options and unexplored roads. Live your life your own way and never allow anyone to take away your personal power.

I particularly enjoyed the way Law made her character Perdita so pure and innocent. Her way of using plant terminology in replace of words for intimacy was interesting and funny.
One thing is for sure - I’m never going to be able to look out into my back garden and keep a straight face ever again, and I will be avoiding garden centres for fear of the men in white coats being called to assess my laughing fits!

Overall an amazing easy five star read! You definitely want to pick this one up!

I’d like to say a huge thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this wonderful book! I’m looking forward to her next release!

As soon as I read this novel I had to tweet how much I enjoyed it just to get the immediate word out there. This is what I wrote: "Don't discount the quiet author who sits under the radar hoping to one day bloom. I adored this fun, slightly bonkers romcom. Perdita is one of those unique, quirky characters that are very endearing."

I hadn't heard of this author before I picked up Love & Pollination and it's such a travesty when authors slip under the radar for prospective readers. Mari Jane Law has written such a fun, crazy caper of a story that's filled with the day to day life of our quirky leading lady Perdita.

Perdita sadly had a tragic upbringing leading to her then being brought up by nuns in a convent so a few street life skills and warnings of the chapters of life were missed from the nuns' parenting responsibilities.

Perdita has found a way of coping when she is faced with new situations but her life takes a sudden change in direction when she realises the job she has been doing is not all it seems and she feels she can no longer do the job justice. This decision leads Perdita on a stumbling block of 'mistakes' or 'embarrassing moments' and one thing leads to another and she has consequences resulting in one of her 'moments'.

Without revealing too much of the storyline we follow Perdita as her life takes on new challenges with new people bringing forth further emotional complications her way.

Perdita is such an endearing character that charms you into her life, she has quirks, yes, but these are what make her great. She may have had a sheltered upbringing and had been naive in certain aspects of her life but she has a heart of gold. I instantly warmed to Perdita's character and was invested in her wellbeing, I laughed my way through her little 'moments' but also felt how brave she was learning anew and accepting life in all it's glory.

The sub-characters in the storyline blended so well with the leading lady making them easily relatable and able to imagine in your head how they looked, acted and felt.

I'm hoping Mari Jane Law will treat us to some more stories with Perdita as I feel readers would love to join her journey through the wonders, trials and tribulations of life.

Love & Pollination is a romantic comedy fiction by Mari Jane Law. Perdita is now twenty-eight years old and works as a financial advisor. As she finally took the advice of one of her clients Violet Freestone and gave herself a glamorous makeover she finally got noticed by her long-time crush Tony but he turned out to be a womanizer which gave her setback number one. To cheer herself up she goes shopping but literally ends up on top of a very handsome man Mr. Saul Hadley and in a crazy turn of events at his home. Though Perdita likes his home and wants to stay there, what will happen when she tells him about setback number one?

In the book, Perdita experiences a series of setbacks due to her naivety and a lack of better judgment. Even after taking into consideration that she was brought up in a very strict and restrictive environment and had no experience with the real brutal world, her naivety was hard to believe as she is a 28-year-old working woman. Maybe if she was five or four years younger there would have been no conflict between her age and her character. Now coming to the good aspects of this book. Love & Pollination has a very solid storyline. A lot of things happened in 317 pages making it fast-paced and at no point, does the story feel stagnant. Applauding Law for her comic writing made me laugh numerous times thus delivering what she promised in her book. Talking about the characters, each character has a significant role to play which prevents unnecessary crowding. Both the main characters, Perdita and Saul have major character growth throughout the story which is always a nice thing to witness.

At last, I want to thank you Mari Jane Law for giving me a copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.

Love & Pollination - Mari Jane Law
(Ad - pr product) blog tour

Brought up in a convent, after being sadly left an orphan, Perdita grew accustomed to people thinking she was ‘odd’. Sister Margaret cared for her unconditionally but Perdita has dreamed of being loved by another. She has strong feelings for someone at work, Tony, and on the advice of a lovely, older client, she dresses differently to attract him.
Unfortunately it worked rather well and Perdita ends up in his hotel bed feeling confused and used. She then loses her job, discovers that she has been ‘pollinated’ by Tony and then, if this isn’t bad enough she is basically kidnapped whilst shopping in the city!
Saul, (who annoyingly is handsome and smells amazing) is reacting to his beloved Aunt Violet losing her savings after consulting Perdita. He takes her back to his home to show her that Violet suffered a stroke after this event and tells her that she has to stay and help Violet recover as a consequence.
Perdita is very confused by this all, but after losing her job, giving up her flat and being pregnant maybe, just maybe, this could work!
Perdita and Saul definitely have chemistry together, perhaps she could have a happy ending after all?!

Oh my goodness I loved this book so much!! Perdita is such a wonderful character, I absolutely adore her.
Violet is perfect as the match-making aunt and Perdita’s old, and new friends prove to her that she is loved.
This book is full of fun, love and hilarious coincidences!
If you enjoyed Molly the Maid books & The Little Clothes then I guarantee that you’ll love this book.

I was recently gifted a lovely copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Perdita Riley is facing the greatest dilemma of her life. Why has she taken Violet Freestone’s advice on how to make herself more alluring? It led her into the arms of a womaniser. And now Perdita has to deal with a huge setback. Actually, Setback Number One isn’t huge yet, but it won’t be long before it is. To cheer herself up, Perdita goes shopping, where an extraordinary encounter deposits her, literally, into the lap of Saul Hadley. She would like to stay there but Setback Number One is going to get in the way. Will she find a way to deal with what happened? Can she manage the complications of her growing attraction to Saul?⁣

Okay so, I have mixed feelings about this one. I’ll be honest, Perdita annoyed me. Yes she was an orphan raised by nuns, but I found it rather difficult to imagine just how naive she was when it came down to ‘germination’. I think it was because at the age of 28, with a good, solid job (well...) in quite a well to do career, I find it hard to understand how little she actually knew in certain aspects of life...⁣

That being said, although I may not have connected with Perdita, I did enjoy the story itself. As the cover states, it was a wacky, romantic comedy that made me laugh and ‘awww’. I really loved Saul, even with that dramatic entrance he made to the story. I loved how what seemed like minor characters at the time, actually had a purpose to the book as the story developed. I enjoyed reading about Perdita and Saul’s relationship, especially in the second half. ⁣

I found it hard to pick up in the beginning, but the story definitely picked up about half way, I read the last 150 pages in one sitting! I absolutely loved the ending and thought it was such a lovely way to finish their journey.⁣

Thank you again to Mari Jane Law for gifting me this lovely read.

A Romcom Delight!

Love & Pollination: A Whacky Romantic Comedy by Mari Jane Law proved to be an absolute delight, serving as the perfect pick-me-up for those in need of an entertaining read. From start to finish, this novel had me in stitches with its hilarious and laugh-out-loud moments, skillfully blended with a heartwarming twist of romance that kept me hooked throughout.

The characters in this whimsical tale are the true gems of the story, each one winning their way into your heart. Perdita's innocence and naivety added a delightful layer to the narrative, consistently landing her in amusing yet endearing predicaments. It's rare to come across a character so genuinely charming, and I found myself rooting for Perdita's happiness at every turn.

What added an extra layer of enjoyment to my reading experience was starting with the second book in the series, providing a unique perspective on the backdrop of the story. Witnessing events unfold from this alternative angle only enhanced my appreciation for the author's storytelling prowess, making the journey even more enjoyable.

As much as I reveled in the humor and charm of the characters, bidding farewell to the story was bittersweet. I found myself reluctant to part ways with the world Law had crafted, a testament to the author's ability to create a captivating and immersive narrative.

For those in search of a delightful romantic comedy that seamlessly blends humor and heart, I wholeheartedly recommend Love & Pollination. It's a romcom that not only leaves you with a satisfied smile but also with an insatiable desire for more. Mari Jane Law has crafted a tale that is as heartwarming as it is hilarious, making it a must-read for any fan of the genre.

It’s been a while since I read an endearing rom-com, and I can so understand the appeal. Some days there is nothing quite like losing yourself to the pages of a charming work of fiction, - one with quirky and unusual characters, who each aren’t aware of the others immediate attraction to them, and must naturally face all sorts of predicaments, smile-inducing mix-ups and misunderstandings until they can finally claim their lovingly-ever-after. Taking us with them through it all, until emotionally drained and now finally satisfied, we arrive at our shared and well-deserved warm-and-fuzzy happy place.

Fans of rom-com will not be disappointed in “Love and Pollination”, a sweet and satisfying story that hits all the right notes, but is also a little bit different, particularly in its choice of a heroine.

Perdita, our female protagonist, is a bit of a puzzle, - a twenty-eight year old orphan who was convent-raised and is still so naive that her innocence ends up leading her into all sorts of hilarious encounters, as well as romantic misadventures. (I must admit it did take me a while to warm to Perdita, and initially found her extraordinary lack of worldly experience stretched credibility. But she definitely grew on me and her naïveté contributed to the funniest of the story arcs.)

On the other hand, Saul, our hero, is pretty much the opposite - gruff, mistrusting and cynical about life, particularly when it comes to women, (who we learn, with no huge surprise, have burned him before). We all know someone just like Saul, who is the perfect foil to guileless Perdita, and chemistry between them becomes inevitable.

A big thank you to the author for a review copy of this lovely book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts presented are my own.

A whacky romantic comedy… quirky, unique, warm and most definitely addictive. From the moment you start this your immediately introduced to Perdita, I found it was so unique and different reading about her backstory, raised by a nun until she became of age to go off by herself. This made it impossible to dislike Perdita, you almost adore her for who she is a person, not being necessarily familiar with everything most people her age etc.

I found the writing style wonderful it gave me the most unexpected giggles from time to time just mainly down to the wittiness in the writing. For a book that’s a romantic comedy this is the first for me. I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Although I wasn’t too sure if Saul was right for Perdita from the beginning of their meet. Obviously the more I read this changed, slightly.

Don’t get me wrong for a rom com this book had some incredible characters, some right memorable ones too. I found myself wondering who would play them if this book was turned into a film. I adored the naive moments, the sweetness the unexpected romance blossoming. I found it an extremely fast paced read. I’m hoping this won’t be the last rom com book I read. So if you have any suggestions please let me know.

It’s kind of like the 40 year old virgin but with a female who isn’t 40 but who’s just not sure of what certain things are in life. I loved that. I loved how someone can be so innocent and sheltered. A perfect chilled Friday night read this was for me.

What a lovely book that was. Totally outside my comfort zone, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever read a rom-com before, but I loved this one. I had a smile on my face most of the way through the book, I defy anyone not to smile reading about Perdita’s life. Very well written with a lovely storyline and of course there is Frank the cat, I’m a sucker for a cat.

Briefly, Perdita is an orphan who grew up in a catholic orphanage run by nuns. She is completely naive and knows nothing about male/female intimate relationships. Nothing. Her only sex education involved birds and bees. After an encounter with a rather slimy individual called Tony it appears that she has been pollinated! Out of a job and unable to pay her rent she ends up working as a companion to a former client, and living with her and her nephew Saul. Attracted to him, but with just too many obstacles in the way, can love win the day?

I really didn’t expect to like this but I loved it. Gentle humour and whilst it didn’t make me laugh out loud I thought the whole concept was so amusing. Perdita is just a wonderful character and I’m sure there is scope for her further adventures. The scene that really made me laugh was the restaurant scene, when she goes for a meal with Saul, whilst a bit unlikely, it was very funny. Definitely a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me.

I honestly really enjoyed this book! It was witty, fast paced and hilarious. The first thing I have to talk about is of course the main character Perdita. Her character really had me laughing, it was so comical watching her go through life being so absolutely clueless about men, she even had me cringing at some points. As I read more of the book I really felt connected with Perdita and every new thing that happened to her I really felt for her.
I was also wholly invested in Perdita and Saul's relationship (when Saul wasn't being a pain in the backside) I couldn't wait to see the outcome of the story because I was really rooting for them as a couple.
This book had a great story arc it wasn't just your usual rom-com, it was whacky and brilliantly thought out. It was nice that the story wasn't solely focused on Perdita and Saul as well, there were some other good characters and it was nice to see their lives as well as the main characters.
Mari Jane Law developed some fantastic characters and a well thought out story.
Overall I loved this book and was surprised by how much. Thankyou to Mari Jane Law for sending me a copy to review

When I was approached by Mari Jane Law to read and review her book Love and Pollination, I was so intrigued by it that I had to say yes, and it really did not disappoint. I managed to read it via Kindle Unlimited.

As a Catholic, educated by nuns in the 70s/80s, I actually found myself understanding the incredibly naive character of Perdita a little too well, as my own sex education was non-existent.

Perdita’s naïveté is perhaps a little extreme, but also brings an endearing quality to her personality. She was very likeable, and some of her experiences, from meeting Tony, to the library and her interactions with Saul, were hysterically funny, and brought some real laugh out loud moments.

I thought Saul was very Darcy-esque, with his aloof manner when he first met Perdita but as with Mr Darcy, he grew through the novel, and was a perfect match for Perdita. I loved Violet as well, with her matchmaking skills, she was a lovely character within the story.

This was such an entertaining, fun read with many laugh out loud moments. It was a very well-written story, with engaging characters, and character development which really added to the story.

Love and Pollination by Mari J Law Review

Pollination,Germination and a Seedling!!

Love and Pollination is a stand-alone novel,by Mari J Law.The story follows the fabulous Perdita and her many embarrassing situations in the pursuit of love and happiness.

I absolutely loved the character of Perdita, her character was brilliantly well written and I was totally engrossed in her world.I loved the way she thought of things in the terms of nature,as it showed her naivety and innocence,in how she dealt with the world.

All the characters were brilliant and by the end I felt I knew all of the characters really well.
My favourite part of the book for me was the ending as I was so pleased for Perdita, but I also loved reading about the scrapes Perdita got in.I loved the germination incident.

I loved the way this book kept me laughing whilst rooting for the characters.

There is not one I disliked about this book.I found it engaging, funny and written with lots of heart.Anyone who loves Bridget Jones, will love this book and the fabulous Perdita.

I would love to read more adventures of Perdita,as I’m sure her story is finished yet.

Bookworm rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Huge thank you to Mari for gifting me this book in exchange of a honest review.
This book was right up my street, packed with lots of humour, some scenes Perdita got herself into had me laughing out loud! The library scene for one had me hiding behind a pillow! I loved Mari’s writing style and how she opened the story up to a scene half way through the book which had me intrigued that I struggled to put this down. Main character Perdita, very naive but always meant well drove me a little mad to begin with. I was shocked just how inexperienced she seemed to be with the world but I also found her a lovely character to relate to and I enjoyed reading about her growth throughout the story. I enjoyed following the chemistry between Perdita and Saul, trying to guess the outcome the ‘will they won’t they’ had me hooked until the very end. This was a fun fast paced read with lots of comedy moments, I think Mari is most definitely an author to watch. I cannot wait to read more from her!

What a fab story!

Perdita Riley isn’t wise in the ways of the world, especially not that of men so when Violet Freestone gives her some tips on how to make herself more attractive, she wishes she hadn’t taken her advice as she now has Setback Number One to deal with. Heading off on a shopping trip to lift her mood brings her into closer contact than she would like with Saul Hadley. From here on things just get more complicated, and the setbacks start to add up.

A fabulous debut with the perfect title! This is a fun read, well-planned with delightful characters and a very different storyline to any other I’ve read. I love Perdita’s unique way of looking at things which made me giggle – often. Splendid from beginning to end and a gratifying experience as everything is tied up nicely by the final page – exactly as I like it. This is a unique tale which easily earns 4.5* and my recommendation.

I am rarely drawn to novels with ‘love’ in the title but this proved an unexpectedly delicious read.
The central character of “Love and Pollination” the well-meaning but naïve Perdita is brilliantly – and often hilariously – depicted. The opening scene, for example, has her tortured by embarrassment and unable to face anyone, taking refuge under a table, hidden by a huge tablecloth.

Perdita's cluelessness had me wanting to shout at her or say ‘for heaven’s sake! Sort your life out!’ over and over again. The character of Violet was also a genius construct in that she was able – powerfully but wordlessly – to comment on Perdita’s unwise decisions and behaviour. Even so, the tone of the narrative is charming and delightful and the humour quirky and rewarding.

Mari Jane Law manages to keep the tension going throughout the novel and there are so many twists and turns, it is a real page-turner.

I look forward to the sequel.

Thank you, @rararesources, for letting me be part of this tour and reviewing this book. Love and Pollination is romance genre. I read book 2 before I read this book, which is book 1. You don’t need to read both. I loved the second one and was so happy I was asked to read Love & Pollination. It is a fantastic read and I love the characters, especially Perdita neighbors. The story about Perdita who has a couple of Dilemmas and then meets Saul, which adds to more complications in her life. This is an easy read that you will not be able to put down. It's brilliant, and I did have some moments of giggling, which is great to have that while you are reading. This is a feel good read that will make you smile until the end. The characters are wonderful, and I felt like I had known them forever. If you're looking for a light — heart and romantic book, this is definitely for you. I strongly recommend 5 stars.

If you want a quick and easy read, that will make you smile and giggle then Love and Pollination is for you.

It has a cast of great characters, well crafted by Mari Jane Law. But, the main star in this book is obviously Perdita. Now, Perdita I had a love/hate relationship with if I'm to be honest with you. There were some things that she did and said that I found quite hard to believe. How would an adult get so far in life and be totally clueless about the birds and the bees? Her naivety at times made me wince. But, saying that, I found her completely whacky and hilarious, and this was because she was totally clueless.

To understand what I mean you will have to pick up the book yourself to get to know Perdita for yourself. She is a unique character with a unique story.

Love And Pollination is a story that is a perfect holiday read. Perdita will brighten up anyone's day with her musings and complete lack of knowledge.

Love and Pollination was the first book I read from Mari Jane Law. A quirky rom-com that had me laughing quite a lot!
Perdita is a loveable woman who had me rooting for her throughout. Every character in this story is unique, which creates what I call a great read. It's a refreshing change for me to read rom-com, and it definitely lifted my spirits
The fact that Perdita just stumbles from on chaos to the next is a bit double. I couldn't help feeling for her, but at the same time, thinking where her brain had gone?
Loads of laughs which are interwoven with maybe a serious issue or two. Mari Jane Law deals with them perfectly, and they just made me more determined to discover how it all panned out. Thanks to Hygge Book Tours and the author for my gifted book so I could write my honest review.

Perdita, naive and hard-working, is no match for playboy Tony - Mistake No. 1. Then a major work stuff-up (not her fault) introduces grumpy and suspicious Saul. More mistakes and set-backs follow in a delightful, well-crafted and highly entertaining romantic comedy. Twists and turns roll in hilarious fast-paced action. It was a keep-you-up-to-the-end book - I surprised my sleeping cat in the middle of the night with several belly laughs.

Mari Jane Laws is an author to watch. She knows how to keep a story rollicking along, uses language confidently, and crafts a great plot. Do check out the dog video at her Amazon author page - it's a stitch! I've already shared it with others. https://www.amazon.com/Mari-Jane-Law/...

First, let me say that if you're thinking about buying this book, you shouldn't read too many of the reviews - the less you know about what's going to happen, the funnier it will be!

I loved several specific things about this book. First, I'm a huge fan of dry humor; "Love and Pollination" is hilarious, and effortlessly so. Second, the characters really put the whole book over the top. They all have their own quirks, and whenever there's more than one in the same place, their quirks play off each other and make the whole scene even more ridiculous, which of course means even funnier. Everything that can go wrong does, and everything that can be misunderstood gets misunderstood...which is the mark of a good rom-com.

Perdita's journey from clueless to *ahem* experienced in matters of love is a great example of a fish-out-of-water comedy. If you love stories like that, you'll enjoy "Love and Pollination."

An excellently well-written book! The descriptions are sharp and engaging, and the characters are layered, entertaining, and full of life.

You immediately feel for the main character, whose extreme naivety and work dilemma make her sympathetic from the very start. I felt so bad for her, especially as she earns an unfair reputation she doesn’t deserve.

Her life takes a surprising turn when a suggestion, meant as light extortion, unexpectedly saves her from a tough situation. It sets her on a new path, filled with fresh opportunities and unexpected encounters.

Packed with secret plans, mix-ups, and hilarious conversations, this enjoyable read will not leave you disappointed. I could recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, light-hearted book.

A laugh out loud, quirky, adorable book

If you are in need of a pick-me-up sort of book, with quirky, adorable characters, grab yourself a copy of this book because it had me reading into the wee hours of the morning it was so good. I honestly couldn’t put it down. It’s laugh out loud funny, full of larger-than-life characters full of flaws, but you will root for them anyway.
I really loved Perdita and Saul’s story, along with Violet’s good-hearted meddling/matchmaking. As much as I loved Perdita and Saul, I honestly stayed for Violet, because she was the star of the book.
One of the most hilarious books I’ve read this year. Highly recommended.

Immediately, I found myself being drawn to Perdita as a character. She was a fantastic protagonist to the novel and her voice was refreshing and unique. She was a charming and interesting character and I was automatically on her side. Because of the individuality of her character I found that I never quite knew how she would react to situations which I really enjoyed. Perdita is very naive but I found her innocence charming and it added to some of the comedy within the novel.

All of the characters within this novel were given purpose and their own story to tell. No character felt like they were there only to fill a place and I loved them all. I loved that each character had been so well thought out and it really added to my enjoyment of the novel. As Perdita’s counterpart, Saul was a complex character and I really enjoyed how the characters of Perdita and Saul bounced off one another. Their tension was so well written and I was completely rooting for them.

The novel is filled with comedic moments and it was such a lighthearted and hilarious read, it definitely deserves the label of romantic comedy. I enjoyed every page of the novel and finished it in no time at all, I was desperate to see how it would end. Although this novel is comical, the plot still had structure and pace to it. There were still twists and turns that kept me on my toes whilst reading which was great and left me wanting more.

I would recommend this novel to everyone who loves a lighthearted romance read. It was well written and paced with amazing characters. I was left wanting to read more about these characters as I loved them so much.

I was kindly send Love & Pollination by Mari in exchange for an honest review.

When Perdita is kidnapped in a local store because of supposedly poor financial advice that she’s given, she thinks life can’t get any worse. Setback Number One as she calls it is about to get much, much worse. I loved the character of Violet, the well intentioned interfering Aunt and laughed at the antics her and Perdita got up to behind Saul’s back. Reading of her further “setbacks” brought tears of laughter and Saul’s antics tears of sadness. Such a refreshing novel that I was lucky to win on line.
