Lacey Black’s Grip is a second-chance, surprise-baby contemporary romance written in K. Bromberg’s Driven World project.

Mack

I live to race. It’s in my blood—the smell of dirt and gasoline, the fast cars, the screaming fans. I was the king of a small track in Missouri with the world at my fingertips. I even had the girl, until a call came from the infamous Colton Donavan. I had a choice to make: my dream or the woman I loved. I couldn’t have both.

When an unexpected surprise shows up on my doorstep in the form of a baby, there’s only one woman I trust enough to help me. Lena Stanley, the one I left behind. But being in close proximity to her reminds me of what we used to have, and what I still want. Her.

Lena
The day he walked away to chase his dream was the hardest day of my life, but I powered through. I could never ask Mack to choose between me and the opportunity of a lifetime.

That’s why I pushed him toward the latter, despite the heartache it caused.

Now, he needs my help. The problem is it’s hard to keep old feelings buried. Despite my best efforts, our connection is too powerful to deny. However, as our short time together draws to a close, I have another difficult choice to make. Only this time, I’m not just walking away from him, but his son too.

Avid reader, writer, mother, and wife! I love to read contemporary romance. Add in a little "spice" or hot guys in uniform pants, and I'm a happy woman. There's just something about diving into a book and engrossing in the magic of your hero and heroine getting their happily ever after.

Nothing speaks of “love” and “romance” when you have the old & over used trope of a doormat heroine and a Manho Hero! They loved each other but he leaves her to chase his selfish dreams and doesn’t call or see her again for 3 years. Of course he then proceeds to impregnate OW and is left the kid to raise on his own. And only then does he contact the heroine because now he needs her to babysit & raise his brat. Wonderful.

He never told me what was wrong, only that he needed me. He begged, and eventually, I agreed. Apparently, I’m a glutton for punishment, because something hit me hard, besides the desperation in his voice. The fact he’s never once called me since he left. Not to shoot the shit or talk about the weather. Not to curse me out for not going with him. Not to tell me about his first win. And to me, that fact spoke louder than any other reason.

“I was told she had a stroke. His mom, Renee, was just…someone I knew. We weren’t dating or anything. I hadn’t even seen her in more than nine months. She worked for the league and was often at the racetrack. Apparently, she missed a few big events and was fired. I don’t know all the details because we never kept in touch after she left. This is just what I heard around the track. I mean, it’s not like we were friends or anything,” I tell her, feeling guilty for not staying in touch with Renee after she left, but it’s the truth. We weren’t friends, we just…fucked on occasion. That makes me sound like the biggest asshole alive, I know, but it’s the truth. Neither of us were expecting anything from the other out of it, and we damn sure weren’t the only ones doing it. It was consensual every damn time, yet I still feel this horrible guilt now that she’s gone, mixed with my anger.

“So, you guys were…fuck buddies?” she asks, almost in a business-like voice.

“Yeah,” I answer, glancing her way once more, but she’s not looking at me. Lena’s staring at the floor again, as if it’s the most interesting hardwood floor known to man.

I am loving the Driven World. It’s great to go back and experience different authors tell stories that take place in the world I love so much. Hat’s off the K. Bromberg for opening this platform. I’m loving all the new adventures! Of course seeing glimpses of Colton and Rylee is an added happy surprise.

In My Own Words:

Grip by Lacey Black is a novel that takes place in K. Bromberg’s Driven world. This single father, second chance, racer heartthrob romance can be read as a standalone and is told from both, Mack and Lena’s point of view.

Mack is in hot water! Not only is his racing standing score slowly plummeting, but now he finds out he’s the father of a three week old baby (Oliver) and Oliver’s mother has recently passed away. He’s looking for help and he’s needing that helping hand now. Which leads him to picking up the phone and calling the woman who has owned his heart since they were young. He calls Lena.

Lena gave Mack her heart when she was a kid. Back then things were easier, she watched him race and there was nothing they couldn’t achieve together, in Brenton. But Mack’s dreams were too wide for small town living. He had to leave to reach for the stars, and Lena had found her roots in her hometown. She didn’t want to live another round of constant travel. She was meant to settle down and in this situation you have to listen to your heart.

Now, three years have come and gone, Lena gets a text message late one night from a number she hasn’t seen in a long time. I need your help, is all the text says. She hops on the first flight she can to help out her old friend. Shock hits her heart and soul when she realizes Mack has a three week old son.

My Thoughts:

I’ve read a few novels from Lacey Black in the past, and I love her writing style. I love the fact that she tells romance from both sides. You can feel the turmoil, the emotions, and the truth from start to finish.

Mack and Lena’s story punched me in the heart. She’s a small town girl looking to stay where she is, and he’s a small town boy looking to spread his wings and fly.

I honestly believe my heart was broken within the prologue. It’s always difficult to see a relationship end. Lena wanted what was best for Mack, and she knew going with him would just hold him back. Plus, at a very young age, she lived the life of a traveler. She was always on the move with her dad, who was a crew chief at the time, going from state to state. It was her time to grow roots and stay where she was always meant to be. I loved the fact that Lena was true to herself throughout this novel. She was true to what she wanted and who she was. There was never a single moment of doubt when it came to her character.

Mack was a man on a mission. He grew up as the underdog with a mother who abandoned him as a kid and the only support he had came from an alcoholic father. Until he met Jim Stanley and his daughter Lena. Jim became the father role Mack should have always had. I admired Jim for stepping up to the plate and being there for this kid, while raising a daughter on his own. It goes to show, families come in different forms. I loved this tight knit group of people. And what Mack learned about becoming a father, he learned from Jim.

Now let’s talk about sweet baby Oliver. I loved his place in all of this. I loved Lena’s connection with him and the heartbreak she felt when coming to terms with her life plans and what SHE really and truly wants. I also loved Mack’s sexy single father vibes, a man with a baby is a lethal combination. The emotions and the connections were a vital part to this story, and Oliver seemed to be in the center of it all. What can I say, I’m a sucker for a single parent romance….. Ah, the swoon, the sexy vibes, and the fear of the unknown. It’s all I’ll ever need and all I’ll ever want.

Do I recommend this novel?

Lacey Black wrote her heart out with Mack and Lena’s story! Of course I recommend this one! If I can have a slight moment to be critical on why I rated this one a four instead of a full five star rating. I have to say I wish there were a few more flashback scenes, I would have loved to see more conversations between Jim and Mack. But that just goes to show how selfish I am about these relationships in this story. I wanted to see more of the fatherly vibe and advice Jim gave. I would have loved to see a little more of Mack and Lena growing up together, I think that would have added an extra bonus to their relationship. But like I said, that’s me being selfish. Overall, this was a great heartwarming romance. I couldn’t put it down!

'Grip' by Lacey Black is a Standalone and is a part of the Driven World series. Told in dual Perspectives , this book was one heart-wrenching contemporary romance!

I have always been a fan of the driven World. Seeing book made about other characters from the series gives me immense joy! This book was a contemporary Second chance Romance. This is Mack and Lena's story.

Mack and Lena have a history. They used to be together until Mack left to chase his dream. Lena couldn't make him choose between a good opportunity and her so she let him go even though it broke her. Not he is back and he is not alone. He wants her help. With his son. She is sure that she wouldn't survive him again , specially this time she would be leaving his son too.

Mack has always had his head in the game. A baby was never in the picture. But now that he has one , there is not much he could do. Except to make it all better. There is only woman he trusts to help him out. The one he left behind. Seeing her again brings back the old feelings , feelings on which he can't act anymore! Staying away from her even more tough and leaving her again is going to be impossible this time.

This book was one hell of a contemporary romance and I loved the steamy aspect. A definite recommendation to all the contemporary romance lovers out there!

Sorry, but it's just blasphemous to have this in the same universe as my beloved Colton & Rylee. The LAST thing I would do is to run to assist the guy who dumped me because I was not worth his efforts to stick around. And in the fact that he knocked someone else up.....LORD. You. Must. Be. Joking. with this storyline.

I love reading books by this author and I love how her writing style is great and this book will keep you hooked right up until the very end. This book is part if the Driven World and is a fantastic addition to the series. This surprise baby romance is a fabulous book that I loved every page of.

Mack and Lena used to love each other and live for one another and Mack has to make a decision that is about to change both of there lives. Does he stay with the woman he loves or go straight after his life long dream but the problem is he can not have them both.
Mack has got racing inside his soul he loves it so much. He has loved it all his life and something totally unexpected happens and completely out the blue in the form of a baby and it throws him totally. There is only one person that can help him and he hasn't seen her in a while.
Lena has been though so much and her heart and been shattered in pieces and she wouldn't have had it any other way. Now years later he really needs someone and the only person he wants is her.

As soon as I started reading this book I knew I was going to love it. I loved the characters together, there connection, there love is so beautiful that you cant take your eyes of of them. This secret baby romance are always my favorite and this book will not disappoint. I loved the characters and the reader can really connect with them ,my emotions were up and down for these two and even after everything I was still rooting for them both. 5 SMOOCHES!

I'm a huge fan of Lacey Black's, and her small town romances are among my favorite stories to read. When she announced her participation in K. Bromberg’s Driven world project, despite not having read that series (I know, I know!), I was excited. I absolutely love second-chance romances and Lacey has written several amazing ones. She also released a series of surprise baby romances a few years ago that was absolutely fantastic. So I knew combing those two tropes in K. Bromberg’s high-energy racing world would produce magic, and I wasn’t wrong.

Grip was a fantastic example of Lacey Black's talent as an author. Blending tropes is something she does well, and she painted a moving picture of this couple’s rich history that drew me right in and kept me hooked. My emotions were all over the place reading this book, and it was a completely consuming read. Full of heat and heart, a bit of angst, and plenty of steam and swoon, Grip was not only a wonderful addition to Lacey’s catalog, but also a fabulous entry point to the Driven world. Five smooches from me for Grip by Lacey Black!

Lena's world is upended when 3 years after letting her first (only) love go to chase his racing dreams, he calls her up with a plea for help. Once she arrives and realizes what Mack is asking her help for, does she stay and help the man she hasn't heard a peep from in 3 years, or does she go back to her life immediately?

Can she resist Mack if she stays? Knowing there's an expiration date on her helping just might help keep her heart intact when she walks away this time...

This is a sweet second chance about first loves and realizing where home truly is. A great installment of the Driven World.

M/F Second chance romance

Mack is a race car driver. He has been since he sat in his first car. He is also in love with Lena. He has been since he saw her at the track where she lives with her dad. Mack has to make a hard choice when he's offered his dream job. He has to walk away from the only woman that he's ever loved.

Lena is a strong woman who knows that she doesn't want to travel in a motorhome any more. She had a lot of years going with her dad to races. She never begrudged him the lifestyle. Afterall, she loved it at the time. Lena has a keen eye and loves to take photographs, but she also loves the racing world. When she sends Mack off to fulfill his dreams, it almost destroys her.

After years of not talking, when Lena gets a SOS message from Mack, she, of course, heads out to see what's wrong. What she doesn't expect is to find Mack in the new stages of being a dad. Lena immediately falls in love with little Oliver.

Lena knows that her heart might be on the line, Mack knows that he for sure never stopped loving Lena. Will these two be able to overcome their own insecurities to find their happiness or will history have to repeat itself?

These two have an amazing friendship and love. Despite the time that has passed, they are able to still hang on to those qualities. It's a sweet story that will have you cheering for them.

I was especially excited to read this one because the characters are from Missouri, where I live. As a kid, I even went to a lot of dirt track races because my mom and stepdad were friends with one of the racers, and they even spent time as part of his pit crew. So those things made me very eager for this story. Now first of all I have to start off with how the story actually seems to be set in Kansas. The whole beginning of the book talks about all of what I thought would be in Missouri as being in Kansas. That’s not a huge big deal. I mean I work in Kansas even though I live in Missouri. But still, a bit of an error. And as a Kansas City, MISSOURI girl, who always gets irritated with concerts where the artist performing will say something like, “Hello Kansas!” and we all have to yell back Missouri or give them quiet to show they are wrong, that is something that sticks out.

But, that’s beside the point of the actual story itself. Honestly, the story was really good! And this is my first book by this author, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be my last. In fact I realized as I was getting my review ready that I do have another book by her, probably from a Kindle deal at one time, and now I’m eager to read it when I get the chance.

This is the second book I’ve read this week about a guy who ends up with a baby that he wasn’t expecting. I liked how in this story there wasn’t any bad blood between the mother and the father though, or her family and his. That made for a uniqueness that isn’t often seen, probably because that doesn’t add an extra layer of drama. Which I’m okay with. Sometimes I prefer a story without a ton of side drama.

The characters were really great, interesting and ones that I was rooting for. I liked how the guys that hung around with Mack definitely acted like you’d expect a bunch of guys to act. It was fun getting some time with Colton and even Rylee for a minute or so. While I don’t always ooh and ahh over babies, the way the author described the baby totally had me smiling at times and imagining the cuteness of him. There were some great steamy scenes along with the romantic ones. A great story, my first real successful foray into the Driven Worlds books so far, and it will keep me looking to read others.

An incredible read. One I could not put down. When you love someone sometimes you have to set them free to follow their dreams. Lena lived her whole life at a racing track. Her mom died when she was young and her dad raised her all by himself. That meant life on the road, in a trailer rather than a house. She loved it when she was little but as she got older that life did not appeal to her any longer. Now with Mack getting a chance of a lifetime, his dream coming true she decides she cannot go with him because of the life she no longer wanted to live. She loved him enough to let him go.
Now three years later she gets a phone call from him that he needs help and she is on the first plane to see him. She agrees to help him for 6 weeks and then return to her life back with her dad. Their love never died and now that they are together sparks fly. She falls in love again even though she tried not to open her heart knowing this was not a permanent thing. His love for her was always there and now he can’t let her go. But like Lena did to Mack he has to because this is not the life she wants to live or is it. He loves her enough to let her go but can she be happy if she stays. These last 6 weeks they have grown so much closer and have become a family of three. Feelings that were not supposed to be involved now are making leaving that much harder. Her dad tells her “this is the only life you get. You have one chance to find your happiness and make it stick for however long God gives it to you.” Lena gave him up once but can she let him go a second time.

Racing driver Mack has been in love with Lena since he first saw her at the track where she lives with her father. When he's offered his dream job, Mack has a tough choice to make and ends up walking away from the only woman that he's ever loved.

Lena is in love with Mack, has been since she first met him too, but after years of traveling, never having roots, she knows she doesn’t want that life as her future.
When Mack is offered the chance of a lifetime, she sends him away and it almost destroys her.

After years apart Lena gets a message from Mack telling her he needs her help and she, of course, goes running. When she arrives she finds Mack.... and his son. Lena immediately falls in love with Oliver and decides to put her feelings aside to help Mack look after him.

Lena knows puts her heart on the line, and Mack knows that he never stopped loving Lena. Watching these two finding their happily ever after, leaves you with the warm and fuzzies.

These two have an amazing friendship and love, It's a sweet story that will had me rooting for them, the whole way. Despite the way things ended, this couple were meant to be, and their second chance is everything I hoped for.

When Mack was 16 years old he was taken under Lena's fathers wing. He learnt everything about racing and he fell inlove.
But then his dream came true. And Colton Donovan wanted him on his team. And Lena loved Mack enough to let him go. To let him leave and live his dreams.

But now three years later he calls her out of the blue asking for her help. And Lena still inlove with him can't help but go to his side. But she also knows that it can't last forever. She doesnt belong in his world. She has had enough of the racing world.
So she gives him 6weeks and then she will leave. But will Mack be able to walk away this time. Or will Lena take her fathers advice., and live the one life she has with the man she has loved since she was 17.

I loved this book. Love books about single parents and watching these two navigate their way with the baby and reconnecting withbeach other was just too sweet. Loved that they got their second chance, a chance to find their happily ever after.

Mack did not have an idlyllic homelife but what he did have was Jim, his mentor when it came to racing, and Lena the girl who stole his heart. When he had the opportunity to pursue his racing dreams the cost was high as he lost the girl in the process.

Lena was raised on the racing circuit and although she loved Mack it wasn’t the future she’d envisioned so even though it broke both their hearts they both followed their own paths.

Years later when Mack needs help there is no one he would rather have by this side as he tries to adjust to being a single father than Lena and for Lena there is no way she can walk way from Mack and his son. The chemistry and connection between them is stronger than ever but will this be their second chance or are they destined for heartbreak once again?

This is a heartwarming story about two people who have always belonged together who realize what is truly important in life and that is each other.

What an amazing job Lacey did with this story! It brought me right back into the Driven World written by K. Bromberg, yet Lacey created great characters while pulling in some of K's. 5 racing stars for this one!
Mack didn't have the best childhood, but once he started hanging around the dirt track, he saw a girl, Lena, and he knew right then and there she would be the one he would marry. Lena's dad took him under his wing and trained him to race, and repair cars. When he gets a call from Colton Donovans racing team, its the opportunity of a life time that he just can't pass up. He wants Lena to go with him, but she grew up in the racing world and she doesn't want that life again, so he leaves.....
Fast forward 3 years later and Mack needs her help, and of course Lena goes to him.....
Follow their story as they try to stay in the present and not go back to the past! You will love this story, I couldn't put it down! Grab it asap!

Note: An ARC was provided by the author via Grey's Promotions.

This was a really enjoyable read, one that earns bonus points because Mack's son shares the same name as my beloved furry baby boy--Oliver. It was interesting to see how Lena ended things with him because she wanted to stay in Brenton and didn't want him to miss out on his dream, and then three years afterwards, she heads to California because he calls saying he needs her. Mack's internal back and forth made me think he was protecting himself from potential heartbreak, especially considering she was the one who ultimately made the decision they go their separate ways. I liked Mack's pit crew--who was essentially his chosen family--and Lena's dad was great. The inclusion of the nanny drama felt unnecessary, but Grip was still a four-starred read, and I hope Fish gets a book.

5 Star Review Grip (The Driven World) by Lacey Black
I have no idea how I have not come across Lacey Black before. This may have been my first book, but it most assuredly will not be my last. Grip is Mack and Lena's story and is set in K.Bromberg’s Driven World.
From the first to the last chapter I was fully invested in the story that Ms. Black wove. Mack and Lena have history, after all she is the one he walked away from when he chose to enter the world of Formula 1 racing.
When a surprise event has Mack searching Lena out for help, she agrees. However in doing so she opens herself up to even more heartache. Will Mack be able to walk away again?
This was a fun, at times emotional read that was entertaining and ticked the boxes for me.

I am a lover of the Driven series and I was so excited to read this book. Lena & Mack are so likable, that you can’t help but enjoy this story. There were moments I thought this book was a bit slow, but it would pick up after a chapter or so. These two are older, not exactly young, but at times were so immature & stubborn. Lena was the most stubborn, but once I finished I realized their stubbornness added to their storyline. A good read & once I got a few chapters in I realized this was a trope that is always a must read because they always steal my heart.

I recommend this book. Told in dual POV.

4 Stars!

Lacey Black is back with a brand new standalone set in K. Bromberg's Driven World and y'all I was here it for it. An emotional, gripping, steamy, fast-paced, second chance romance that'll nip at your heart the entire journey and yet leave you smiling by the end... Grip was really, really good and had a twist on the surprise baby trope that caught me by surprise.

Mack and Lena, whew boy these two! What a complicated pair they were and no matter the distance or time put between them could sever the kind of undeniable connection they had. These two will make you feel all the feels (so many ups and downs) but by the end, it'll be so very worth it.

I adore Lacey Black and all of her beautiful words. If you like the Driven series then you'll looooovec this romance.

I recommend this book.

OMG MACK AND LENA ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!
I'm always excited for a surprise baby read, but hoomahgawd, Lacey Black took it to the next level here. Sweetness, angst, steam, second chances, swoon. She delivers it all in Grip! Lena and Mack are one of those couples that really works their way into your heart. The love these two have, despite years of separation, is so strong you can feel like pouring off the pages while you read. Adding a surprise baby into that mix only adds fuel to that fire making them a couple that will have you hooked.

Grip by Lacey Black is a stand-alone in KB's Driven World and tells Mack and Lena's beautiful second chnaces story.
Mack comes from the wrong side of the tracks and is now an up and coming race car driver.
Lena is a photographer and she loved him for a long time. Tey were a couple til he left her behind, up to his new and exciting life. But suddenly he needs her, and Lena jumps for the opportunity to see him again.
Grip is a slow burn, well written, entertaining. 4 beautiful stars.

Grip is Lacey Black’s newest standalone and it’s part of K. Bromberg’s Driven World. I was so excited when I found out she was going to be part of this world. For her. I actually haven’t read the Driven series but I have always wanted to. Too many books, so little time!

Three years. Three years ago Lena watched the love of her life walk away. Toward his dreams. She was so happy for him. It was everything he ever wanted but she couldn’t go with him. So she stayed in Missouri while he went to LA. And now, she was off to LA to help him. She didn’t know what she was walking into but she knew in her heart that she had to go. She thought that maybe this is what she needed to move on. The last thing she expected when she got to his house was a baby. A newborn. A three week old boy named Oliver.

Mack hated walking away from her three years ago. And when suddenly he was a father, she was the only one he could trust to help him. He needed her. When he saw her again he knew he also wanted her. He always has but those thoughts were dormant since he couldn’t do anything about it. She didn’t want this life. He couldn’t do this on his own, taking care of a baby. They decide on six weeks. She would stay for six weeks. He knew from that moment that it wouldn’t be enough.

Mack and Lena’s relationship is complicated and beautiful at the same time. I felt their connection from start to finish. They are so at ease with other and nervous too. They don’t want to complicate things even more but they also want to give in. It’s so much. The traveling together. The taking care of a baby together. Laughing, learning, and the races! So exciting. Lena loves the excitement of the races. It’s fun when it’s six weeks but can it be forever?

Aw!! I absolutely LOVED this story!! The slow burn. The races. Oliver. I seriously cried a dozen times!! I laughed. Hard. I want to slap a few people. It was awesome. Oliver is not just in the background. He is Mack’s world. It makes Mack even hotter! Damn...him in a fire suit on halfway? 🔥🔥. Then there is Lena, she is so sweet, strong, and sexy. I love that they just get each other.

P.S. I want more Fish!! ♥️

Quotes:

“I trust you.” The corner of my mouth turns upward.
“Good. Now, let’s get you in your race car so Oliver can witness his first big Indy race.” I glance down and find the baby sound asleep. Mack snorts. “He’s thrilled, I can tell.”

“Lena!” Fish bellows from the open door of the limo. “Damn, girl. You look positively edible. Have you finally realized you’re with the wrong man yet?” Fish asks, winking and smiling as his best friend growls behind me.

I grip my steering wheel, my hands more at home there than anywhere else. Well, maybe a second to Lena’s body, but a damn close one. This is my element, my drive.

I have loved every book I've read by Lacey Black. She has a way of weaving emotion, humor, love, and passion together into a great story. Grip is a perfect example of Ms. Black's talent. It is a perfectly paced, emotional second chance romance with a different twist on a surprise baby. I absolutely loved Mack and Lena's story. It is both heartbreaking and heartwarming and I love the care and precision Ms. Black created her characters and her storyline.
Mack fell in love with racing as a teen, about the same time he fell in love with his best friend, Lena. Her father became Mack's mentor as he aspired to become an Indy car racer. As Mack's career grew on the smaller tracks so did his love for Lena. But his world changes when Colton Donavan gives him a shot at his dream. However, his dream is not Lena's. She grew up on the circuit, being hauled from track to track and while she enjoys the sport, she doesn't want that lifestyle. So she practices the old adage, if you love someone, set them free.
Separated by miles and three years, neither is happy but life goes on. When Mack calls her and says he needs help, she drops her life in Kansas to fly to California to find he is a single dad, much to Lena's surprise and Mack's too. From there Ms. Black develops a beautiful story filled with great characters—both lead and secondary—awesome banter, emotion, passion, and rekindled love. The road to Mack and Lena's HEA is often under the caution flag but in the end the couple takes the checkered at the finish line. This book is one of my top five reads of the year. Tight writing and attention to detail with a well-developed plot makes this book an amazing read. I highly recommend Grip as well as any other book written by this author.

Grip is Lacey Black's newest addition to the Driven World. Grip is a sexy, fun and addicting second chance romance. I love a good second chance romance and Lacey did a perfect job! Mack and Lena were in love and had their whole lives ahead of them. Together. Until Mack gets a call from Colton Donovan and the chance at his dream. But Lena can't go with her and leave her life. Mack has to follow his dream alone. Three years later and Mack needs someone he trusts to help him. Lena gets a call from Mack for help. She hasn't spoken to him in years, but she can't help but go to LA to help him with whatever he needs. Turns out he has a baby and doesn't know what to do. Lena agrees to help, but only temporarily. Mack can't believe how good she looks. He never stopped thinking about her but he has to keep his hands to himself. If he touches her he'll never be able to let her go. There's nothing sexier than watching Lena with his son. Mack still has a job to do. He needs to race and now his son, Oliver, and Lena are with him. He never thought it would mean this much to have them with him.

Fabulous Story & Narration🎧 Delightfully Heartfelt!

Grip
The Driven World
By: Lacey Black, KB Worlds
Narrated by: Tom Haire, Suzanne T. Fortin

I loved everything about this fabulous second chance romance, from Lacey Black’s wonderful writing style to the amazing characters and storylines she created to the perfectly cast narrators who bring it all to life from the pages to your ears. I am a big fan of K. Bromberg’s Driven series and it is always a treat to return to her “Driven” world in one way or anther and Lacey Black does a spectacular job with capturing the essence of that world she even included a few Colton Donovan cameos. Mack Cruz did not have the best home life, but he found his outlet and a man who would give him the time of day, Jim Stanley, owner of the dirt track and a former crew chief for open-wheel racing. Mack fell in love with racing and his daughter Lena. He dreamed of making it big one day and then the unimaginable happens, he gets a call from Colton Donovan, they were short a racer and he wanted him to fill that seat. Honored and excited he accepts thinking Lena would come with him but she told him she does not want that life and that he must go and follow his dreams breaking both of their hearts. Fast forward three years, despite not keeping in touch Mack asks Lena to come to L.A. because he needed her help. She had no idea what was going on with him, it hurt too much to keep tabs on him so she stopped, but she did not hesitate to go and what she found was very surprising. Mack caring for a baby and in way over his head. She had no intention of staying but he convinced her to help him for six weeks. Lena was a natural with the baby and she was no stranger to the racing world. I loved how everything played out in this beautifully plotted story, it captivated my attention from start to end and left me with a big smile on my face. Lacey Black, thank you for this fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Tom Haire and Suzanne T. Fortin are talented narrators and versatile voice artists. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that was a perfect fit for their character’s persona, and were believable in every role they played. Haire played Mack’s role with perfection and Fortin did the same for Lena, both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and projected them into their performance and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration enhances the amazing story another level. Thank you for this wonderful listen.

Grip is Lacey Black at her very best a true 💯beautiful emotional story; a story that will turn you inside out and leave you with a lump in your throat and a sigh on your lips, wanting more and more of Mack and Lena even when you turn the last page! Well done Lacey Black for producing a truly breathtaking romance!

At 16 Mack was taken under the wing of Jim Lena's dad who taught everything Mack needed to know about stock car racing; Macks dad was a mean drunk and Jim was like the father he always wanted. Now 8 years on Mack's dream is about to be realised when he is offered a ride from a top team but what Mack wasn't expecting was that the love of his life Lena wouldn't go with him - but this is Mack's dream not Lena's she has grown up in the racing world and as a child was moved from circuit to circuit and it just isn't what she wants but she would never stop the man she love's doing what is akin to the air that his breaths!

Now 3 years later Mack needs Lena and without a thought she gets on a plane to help him and his 3 week old son who he knew nothing about until he landed at his door, out of his depth Mack calls the only person he want's to help him. As soon as Lena arrives to help out she knows it is not going to be easy to walk away again when her 6 weeks are up helping Mack out! Mack knows that Lena is the only girl he has ever loved but will she stay this time!

If you love alpha men cute babies (and lets be fair who doesn't) you will love how Lacey Black has cleverly interwoven a racing car romance around 2nd chances, a new baby and going on the road! I adored how Oliver only 3 weeks old still had a starring role; the banter back and forth between Mack Lena and Mack's team was well thought out; little things made the difference to me with the level of detail that went into the book - Olivers milk being talked about as if it was steak and potatoes for instance! Clever little snippets like that make a book worth reading, enjoying and wanting to read again!
