Country Thunder is the second book in the King Creek Cowboys series and can be read as a standalone. This story centers on Justin McLeod, his daughter Kaycee, and horse therapist, Miranda Hawthorne. It is a charming read with likable characters, a well-written storyline, great chemistry, family interaction, humor, drama, suspense, and romance.
Miranda is a recent transplant from Texas and is working on getting her horse therapy business up and running. Leaving her violent ex, family, and friends behind she is hoping to start fresh and make a name for herself, along with new memories, in King Creek and so far she is off to a great start. She is enjoying the town and the residents and has clients booked for months; now only if she could shake the awful memories that still plague her and her ex would leave her be, she might finally be happy. Things start looking up when Justin McLeod registers his daughter for therapy lessons. Kaycee was thrown from his horse several months prior and injured and is now fearful of something she has always loved. Justin is hoping with Miranda’s help Kaycee will be back in the saddle again soon. Neither of them expected the instant attraction and sparks to fly upon meeting and while Justin is determined to get closer, Miranda is just as determined to keep her distance. When she finally decides to take a chance things heat up quickly and Miranda does not know how to reveal her secret without pushing Justin away. When the situation is taken out of her hands and she and Justin are both confronted by her past Miranda is afraid that everything she has accomplished will crumble making Justin and their love a bittersweet memory.
This is a really great story from start to finish and I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
