Desperate and on the run, Luka must prove his innocence— before his past destroys him forever. But war crimes investigator Robert Braun is certain of Luka’s guilt, and will stop at nothing to right the wrongs of history. As secrets are laid bare and a deadly conspiracy comes to light, Luka and Robert find themselves careening toward a day of reckoning. One that will shake the foundations of everything they thought to be true… And if they fail, it will cost them everything they hold dear. INDICTED is a hard-hitting thriller about true justice and the power of redemption. This action-packed story is perfect for fans of Nelson DeMille, Daniel Silva, and David Baldacci.

I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

I fully enjoyed this book! This is a well-crafted book. I could tell the care that was taken in the plotting of the story – there were no loose ends; and in the world surrounding it. I know very little about the Croatian war in the ’90s. I tried to find some Cole’s Notes paragraphs to get some more knowledge, but as with any conflict, it takes more than a Cole’s Note to understand the ins and outs. That being said, not knowing anything about the war didn’t make the story any less enjoyable. The stakes were high, they were clear, and wholly entertaining.

Some standout thoughts for me: I liked that the characters were appropriately affected by things. Not too long ago, I read a book where the villain didn’t die. It was so ridiculous, it took me out of the story. And there are other books where the hero gets put through so many things a normal person would have been killed or maimed by. Everything that happened here seemed like it could very well have happened in real life. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if someone read this and said, “oh hey, I’ve heard this exact thing happening.”

Another thing I appreciate was the relationship between the Luka, the soldier, and Robert Braun, the investigator from The Hague. It reminded me a bit of the dynamic between Tommy Lee Jones’ and Harrison Ford’s character in The Fugitive.

This is a great book that needs to get some more readers!

During the Croatian War of Independence, Luka Pavić, a Sergeant, and Ante Čapan, a Private, stumble upon a frightened little girl and the corpses of fourteen civilians. After the war, they are charged with the murders of those fourteen people and the possible murder of the little girl. Although innocent, they both go into hiding.

Fourteen years later, all seems fine until an assassin comes and Luka is forced to go on the run again.
Will he clear his name? Or will he be imprisoned, or worse; killed? Will Luka ever see his family again? Did that little girl survive?

I loved that there was a new twist pretty much every chapter, but it all flowed so well. Saric has a great writing style that has you on the edge of your seat the whole time. It was also cool adventuring with Luka to all these places I’d never even heard of, like Zagreb.

This book is an amazing thriller! It had many things that I didn’t expect to happen, as well as some things that are basic requirements for a thriller. I could hardly put this book down once I started reading. One thing I loved is that the action started right in the beginning of the book with flashbacks to the war. The book overall was very cultural, the characters travel to many different places in the world, unlike most books I have read that are based in the US. The only downside to that is if you asked me to list all the characters I could not pronounce their names correctly:) but I think that only makes it more realistic! Overall I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves thrillers or is just getting into thrillers, it is great to read for anyone!!
