The Squirrels want Bob and the Gene out of their sky. Bob just wants to get along, maybe do a little business. How can he convince them he means no harm? Does he have to show them that they don’t want him for an enemy, just to get their attention? Find out in Secret Squirrels.
I’m a house husband. I keep things together while my wonderful wife makes our living. I’ve worked as a machinist, short order cook, electronics assembly tech, and several other jobs. My hobbies include vehicle maintenance, (I’ve had the transmission out of my truck. Twice) free flight airplanes, electronics, and shooting. I was born and raised in the Ozarks, and now live in Mid-Missouri.
In this book Bob and Nikki and the crew make contact with a new species, a race of people descended from squirrels and things are not as cute and cuddly as one night think. How will Captain Bob save the day. This story is full of action and the good humor this series is known for. This is sci-fi with a heart, and I am glad to have found these books. If you want to check them out for yourself, start with Bob's Spaceship Repair which is book one of the series.
I am hooked on these stories, I know they are a bit ridiculous and at times quite repetitive, but I find them fun to read even though I don’t really find the humour particularly amusing. However I can understand why some people don’t like them and might only give them one star. What I find strange with the stats for this book is they are out of step with every other book in the series and there are suspicious number of one and two star ratings. Even more strange is that nobody giving these ratings has left a review. You would definitely expect to see somebody who was annoyed enough to leave a one star rating to express their views. I seem to be missing something!
When it looks impossible somebody's going to say , "that's nothing, here hold my beer!". I like the way Jerry uses education & study to help solve problems in his Bob & Nikki stories. I have tried to install that in my students for years. I will probably lose my "Man" card for reading directions, but it sure cuts down on the stress levels. Bob & his crew are on the clock to solve a serious problem involving hostel Aliens that want to provoke an interstellar war. The problem is do they represent the entire race or are they just a faction? Bob & his crew are also finding out that these aliens have been sabotaging the Commonwealth for centuries. Go on guns blazing & you scare the natives into a war. Try diplomacy & they think you are weak - start a war. How Bob & his crew solve this dilemma makes for great entertainment. Now where is book 10? 😁
I wrote favorable reviews after reading the first two books and then after reading three and four. The first thing to note is that this is just a single book and the various books are just chapters. They should be read in order because there is very little back fill and you need to meet all the characters when they first appear. The people and bots are interesting, but they come in and out rapidly and you need to be alert to follow them. The first nine books took me over 50 hours of reading in less than a week and I am about to start book 10. Most authors have a drop in what made their previous books riveting after six or seven. Mr Boyd has avoided that so far. The repartee is fun and there is obviously repetition over so many pages, but not so much as to become stale. A good, light escapist read. CMac
Most of the time when I buy a series, and find out the last book isn't the end, I wait for the rest. No big deal. Unfortunately, this author leaves each book hanging in the middle of a paragraph. Again, that is no big deal when I've already bought the "complete series". I've found this to be an enjoyable read, or I wouldn't have made it this far. Since the author does not know how to start and end books in a series, be prepared for books that are more like chapters. If there is any delay between books, it will be necessary to re-read a bit to remember where the story was left hanging.
I really enjoy the story line but I am not sure which character is talking from moment to moment. Also you have so much happening over such a short time period. Why not allow some time to lapse? Don’t get me wrong, I am only an avid reader but I wouldn’t be able to write a book. I have tried and I discovered it’s much harder than reading them for me. Thanks for taking the time to write these.
As I’m about to start reading the 10th book of this series, I have to say that there isn’t a single story that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed reading!
It’s really quite satisfying to read through a group of novels whose principle aim is clearly entertainment celebrating the best each character has to offer instead of grubbing around in the ugly behaviors that so often pass as convivial recreation these days.
I want to read about good people trying to live up to their highest ideals and facing challenging situations with decency, humor, and grace.
The last time I looked, the Bob and Nikki series ran to 47 volumes. So, at Number 9, I am way behind. Jerry Boyd writes them faster than I can get them read. If the series is new to you, start with Bob’s Saucer Repair. If you are ready for number nine, all I have to say is dogs, robots, and space-faring squirrels. As usual, Bob makes friends with his enemies and offers them a job. Munch on black walnuts while you read. 3.4
Hard to believe I just.finished book 9. The story hooks a person and you end up looking to see how much you have read and realize you are already almost finished. The characters are great and there is so much excitement ! This has a Hillbilly, aliens, Bigfoot ( a whole planet of them) squirrel aliens, battles and even some romance. Might have to start the next book now even though it's late & I should go to sleep.
This goes for all 9 books so far. A quick easy read. Some serious situations without too much dread piled on. Lots of humour, sometimes feels like it needs a key with explanations. Perhaps the general good nature of most characters is rather far fetched but it is fiction. Looking forward to the next ones.
I have been reading about Nikki and Bob since he found her in his garage. I will be the first to admit your punctuation took some getting used to but your story telling is "All Aces"! Keep up the good work. I am going back to impatiently waiting for the next book!
Hot dog, another issue of Bob and Nikki saucer repair!!! I liked it, it was good. I admit that I did have to go back and reread some of the previous issues to get the names straight of the characters in the story. Well worth it. Anxiously waiting for further releases. Hot dog!!!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this series, with all The bad sad news it's fun to relax and travel to another universe. Reminds me of Isacc Asimov science fiction with a sense of humor. PERSONALLY I hope the series continues!! Jerry Boyd keep up the GOOD work👍👍👍👍👍
Secret Squirrels is another funny, well written read by Jerry Boyd. Some of the laugh out loud comments has my husband looking confused because Sci-Fi isn't normally hilarious. Now we have humans, their dogs, the freed Commonwealth bots, Starfoot (Starfeet?) and Squirrels in space. Hoping for #10 soonest.
A major challenge as an alien race of squirrels attack
Bob is determined to talk to the aggressive alien squirrels. Peace is the only outcome he will accept. Unfortunately the arrogant squirrels refuse to recognize the ignorant 'monkeys ' as equals and choose aggression. Let the fun begin.
I’m getting ready to face the fact that I’m going to be finishing his series soon. I have totally enjoyed it- even the punctuation faux pas. (What is the plural of faux pas?)
But it is a great adventure from start to finish. I could still use a character map...
I've read over 250 SF books in the last two years. I am through nine books in this series and there must be Superglue leaking from my tablet because I put it down. Nine books in eight days. This is the best storyline and writing I have read that I can remember. Thank you Jerry Boyd!!!
More of the good stuff. To clarify what I've said before in reviews for the series: It's a good comfort read. Especially for any scifi fans with anxiety. It's not totally lacking excitement or intrigue but it's doesn't get too intense.
I forgive any literary or rhetorical flaws as long as it keeps that up.
I highly recommend the Bob and Nikki series by Jerry Boyd. There is both plenty of humor and action to keep the reader interested. The dialogue between characters is always good. My only criticism would be the large number of characters sometimes can get confusing. All in all though I have thoroughly enjoyed these books.
The introduction of a new race, new bots and lots of fun in this book. I love the banter and Bob's leadership skills. Although it might seem like all fun and games, there are good examples of leading a team and respect for the crew that many current people -in-authority could learn from.
I'm really having fun reading the books in this series. All of the characters in the books have their own place in the story. A new character is brought in constantly. The story never slows down. There's always something going on. Do yourself a favor. If you didn't start with book one, go back and pick up book one.
Great way to build on the previous books in the series. I love these characters. I found myself literally laughing out loud multiple times. Looking forward to more.
I thoroughly enjoy the humour of the characters. Seeing the garage mechanic type of person make good over the project blue book types is great. Only thing off putting is write faster😉. Can't wait the next installment
With interesting characters and an intriguing storyline this series will keep you wanting more and more. The only drawback i have is having to wait for the next book to come out
I really look forward to reading these and haven't been let done yet. These are straight through reads and always a best time to the end. There will be a significant period of solemn mourning when the series ends.
It was the kind of series that leaves you sorry the next book isn’t out yet I read all of Bob And Nikki in a week, great characters and a sense of humour. Hope he keeps this series alive
This is a very readable and totally non-serious look at Earth versus Galactic civilization. Earth generally wins. More accurately, rural Missouri wins. The series is at nine books, but looks as if it will go on forever.
