TRUE

Most people would love Alec’s life… great job… hot boyfriend… and a beautiful brownstone in DC’s gay mecca, Dupont Circle. But within a single night, things change…

His best friend, Demarco, supports Alec’s bold decision of seeking a new perspective… a change that begins across the country, in a cabin atop Beulah Mountain.

Alec was not looking for a man… wanted nothing of the sort. But a strong-willed cowboy named Tyler enters his life as spontaneous as the snow of Montana’s winter.

Unpredictable as a mountain storm, Alec and Tyler soon find themselves entwined in a fierce love affair… raw, real, and unlike any other Alec has ever had.

But Tyler belongs to Montana.

Will their passion be enough to keep them together? Will Alec learn to forgive his past missteps and accept that he deserves the happiness that can only come from a man so genuine… so giving… and so TRUE?

This book contains mature content.

I loved this story. Tyler and Alec were perfect for each other. I did question how Tyler was going to feel when he read Alec’s mm romance which told intimate details of their sex life. Since he doesn’t get a chance to read the book in this story we will never know. I think it would really upset me. I also thought Alec was awfully naive not to see through Mac.

There is so much to like here ! Timothy Warren does a beautiful job, showing us a romance between two opposites. This is fun, heartwarming, and has a steady pace.
Smaller guy Alec, 32, a writer, finds

his boyfriend cheating again, and it's over for good. He escapes to Melody, Montana, a small town with a cabin on the mountain to rent. He's hoping to undo his writer's block before Christmas.
In trouble right away, he's stuck, waiting for the AAA rescue, which is a huge surprise, because it's a big man on horseback. Widower, Tyler, 37,

has a few flecks of gray in his scruff, is a jack-of-all trades, tall, muscled and a sexy cowboy.
We watch their interactions, conversations, and they find out a bit at a time about each other.
Tyler plays guitar and sings every Tuesday at the town bar. The townsfolk are terrific, quirky and friendly, and Alec finds himself fitting in, which is surprising.
Alec likes Tyler, and vice versa, and we get deep thoughts, hot sexiness, and calm and welcoming feelings. Decisions are coming up as time passes. Alec has a life, sort of back east, and his BFF Demarco is there.

This story made me happy, to see such opposite guys finding that their differences aren't a bad thing, but keeps things interesting. And their Christmas is exciting.

Heartwarming and fun, I recommend this highly.
ENJOY !

I can't say I took to either character. Alec is a snob and seems to really enjoy correcting people, that and always going on about what a music aficionado he is. Tyler does really have a personality.

Alec is constantly having conversations with Demarco in his head, and it's not like Demarco is dead or in a coma.... so just call him, instead of having imaginary conversations all the time.

Can I point out how dangerous it is to just let someone have at 'er with a snowmobile and a chainsaw (chainsaw especially), without zero experience or supervision. And just saying to cut down dead trees and not correcting him that it isn't for environmental reasons to not cut down the living trees, but that you shouldn't be burning green wood because a) it doesn't give off much heat and b) creosote. But he may not have to worry about that if he ends up amputating a limb while messing around with a chainsaw.

When Alec first meets Buddy and Marge, Marge mentions that Tyler's partner, Brett had passed away five years ago from cancer. Brett's name is mentioned three times in that conversation, a conversation that was awkward both in it's placement and the contents. I mean, Marge is telling a complete stranger details of Tyler's life, while Alec casually converses with her husband about a winter coat. Anyway, later on when Alec is talking to Demarco, he says that Tyler's wife passed away from cancer. Um.... what? I don't know about you, but I would run on the assumption that someone named Brett would be a guy. It's not really an androgynous name, even though it is very occasionally used as a female name. I would have thought it would make more sense to either use a more androgynous name or have Alec mistakenly hear "Brit". But later on, when talking to Tyler about Brett, Tyler refers to him as "he" and Alec does a double take and is gobsmacked to realize that Brett was a man and Tyler is gay. "Wait a minute. Did you say he?"

While Alec had been talking to Marge and Buddy at the store, he told them that he was a writer and that he was working on a book, a piece of nonfiction. Then later on that night, Bobby refers to Alec's book as a novel, and Alec corrects him to let him know it is nonfiction, and Bobby was like, "Oh, I didn't know."

Aside from the above two incidents, there are quite a few continuity issues. Most are small things, like how many times Mac has cheated on Alec, which varies anywhere from two to four times.

There are a few typos, mainly words missing from sentences. Some oddly placed commas. And there are a few times, just a sentence here or there, that seem to be Tyler's POV.

I will say that there are quite a few pop culture and celebrity references throughout. I got probably 50% of the pop culture reference, but knew very few of the celebrities, especially since some of them were B- or C-listers. And so many songs.

Also, at one point Demarco says he is at an event and lists some of the celebs that are there, and a politician is mentioned, who is actually a real life openly gay politican, Brian Sims, and it is implied that he is the one who has hired out Demarco for the evening. I'm really not into real life people being involved with the fictional characters in the fictional books I read. And having them get intimate with one of your OCs almost makes it feel like I'm reading the author's fanfic fantasy, and it squicks me out. Not my cup of tea, for sure.

Speaking of sex, I didn't really enjoy the sex scenes. When Alec requested Tyler fuck him "From behind, like a horse", I almost DNF'd it right then... and oddly enough, the next day he gets upset when Tyler caresses his cheek, saying, "Stop. I'm not a horse." And somehow, "When physical limitations determined he could go no further, he sunk deeper." Um... did he fuck you with the Force?

Tyler didn't want to spook Alec by letting him know that he was the owner of the cabin, and I'm still trying to figure out how that would spook him. In fact, I would find it more spooky that someone who didn't own the cabin kept popping by while I was sleeping and leaving me notes and supplies.

Tyler, at one point, tells Alec not to worry about the future, that he is happy with right now and that that is what they should focus. A few chapters later, he freaks out about how much longer they have together, that Alec won't just drop his whole life and move to the middle of nowhere over a relationship that may be a few weeks old at most, since he only arrived a week before Thanksgiving and it's now a week before Christmas... and it was at least two weeks before they got the ball rolling on their relationship. What a drama llama.

This was a very easy read. But I felt that it was a little too light on the substance. I made the decision early on while reading this to not continue with the series.

Engaging

Looks like a debut novel, a light low-angst romance. I enjoyed the music aspect, with singers I knew; had to google songs I wasn’t familiar with so that was fun. I didn’t feel emotional content from the romance too well, Tyler’s character needed more dimension for me. Demarco stole the whole book though with vivid characterization and loved seeing a positive depiction of a sex worker. Dialogue is clever and fun. Enjoyable.

This delightful book was recommended in a FB group when someone was looking for “moving on from a cheater” trope. True is the first book in Timothy Warren’s Tales of the Circle series. Warren’s writing has a wonderful mix of laughter, character introspection, found family, and romance.

Entirely from Alec’s perspective – this is truly a tale of city boy in the country. It’s not exactly “forced proximity” as Alec has made the choice to spend some time in remote Montana but there’s definitely those elements that I enjoy from the trope. When Alec finds himself stuck in the snow and other elements he doesn’t know how to navigate – the somewhat mysterious Tyler rescues him.

While I do wish Warren would have shared more about Tyler in order to further connect with him – perhaps it is his somewhat simple nature that makes him so appealing as a character. I adored Alec and Tyler as individuals and as a couple. I appreciated the way Tyler’s deceased spouse was respected by Alec. Despite some heavy subject matter – this felt fairly low angst and misunderstandings were addressed maturely and quickly. A lovely comfort read.

One of the other things that I love about this story is Alec’s friendship with Demarco. It is a thing of beauty and mutual respect – with no romantic undertones at all. I absolutely adore them and am looking forward to Demarco getting his HEA in Secret. With a little bit of hope that we’ll see more of Alec & Tyler as well.

A harmless piece of fluffy fun. I enjoyed Alec's snarky voice. The town felt like a mountain version of Stars Hollow complete with quirky, nosy residents. I'm not the right audience for something this cute but fans of fluffy romance will enjoy this.

This book was a whole lot of strange and awkward. You’ve got Alec who is 32 year old guy living in DC. He writes a column for The Washington Post about gay life in “The Circle.” I’m assuming this is the DC area of Dupont Circle. He has a really annoying best friend named Demarco who is some kind of escort/high end hooker and who calls Alec “sister” and “girl.” Alec is having some kind of early mid-life crisis where he wants to go away to some cabin and write a book about music. So he ends up renting a cabin in the sleepy little town of Melody, Montana for 5 weeks…in the winter. (To add to the cliché of the town being named Melody, the cabin is on Penny Lane. 🙄)

Once Alec gets to Montana, he is rescued by Tyler after Alec’s rental vehicle goes off the road in the middle of a snow storm. Tyler is described as your typical male “hero” in any romance. He’s big, broad, sexy, all those descriptors fit this guy. He is 27 and it’s quite obvious to the reader that he owns the cabin Alec is renting.

It’s a really bland romance with all the regular stuff happening. I found the sex to be cringy and awkward with Alec asking, "From behind. Like a horse." The dialogue for that doesn’t get any better. "Are you ready?" [Tyler]
"Yes."
"Then here I come."
and they proceed to have sex as Alec describes the next day as “bestial.”

At this point they’ve know each other for a week, had sex the one time, and Alec is saying this:

"—You live here. I live in DC. My work is there. Yours is here. How would we make this work? If we fall in love, how could this possibly work?"

Woah, Alec! (See what I did there? 😉 I’m keeping with the horse theme.) Who said anything about love? But this is at the 71% mark, so I suppose he isn’t too far off since we’re really close to their HEA.

I didn’t find that the whole “writing a book about music” storyline gelled at all. It never took shape amidst all the other stuff. The only part I saw that related to that was all the references to different songs that I didn’t care to read about. The writing was good, but there was no depth to any part of the story. It was all laid out on the surface and just felt bland. I have no inclination to continue with this series.

What a beautiful love story & great start to a new series. The two main characters, Tyler (cowboy) & Alec (city boy), are cute together. Alec is in a rut and needing a change of scenery to write a book. After getting stuck in a ditch during a snowstorm in Montana, Alec is greeted by Tyler... on horseback. Yup, that’s your AAA in the snowy mountains of Montana. There was an insta-lust between Tyler and Alec when they first meet, but not necessarily insta-love. The book has a nice slow burn to ‘I love you.’ I have to laugh at myself for a minute because I missed a ton of cinema/music/entertainment references. No biggie, I either looked it up or just let it slide. I’m sure it would have added another level to the reading experience, but not picking up on those references didn’t detract from enjoying this book. I think it’s worth pointing out, I am bad about skipping ahead or reading too fast, but the imagery in this book had be savoring every last word. Even to a point I stopped reading just to imagine the world the author is depicting. Big kudos, because as someone who typically reads multiple books at a time & bounces all over the place, I read this book straight through. With no epilogue we don’t get a glimpse of the couple in the future, so I’d say this is a solid HFN.

This is a new author for me, but I can’t wait to read more. If you’re looking for a low-angst, super sweet, romance novel, this is the book for you.

Great but errors

I totally would have given his 5 stars, but I find it hard to reward the failure to proofread your work. There was missing punctuation, missing words, wrong words, and huge sections where the POV shifted away from the narrator.

That said, the author has a lovely way with words, a sweet turn of phrase I quite admired. Told in third person but from Alec's POV. Needing a change of scenery in the hopes of also fulfilling a dream to write a novel, DC gay columnist, Alec, heads for Montana in the winter. He is rescued time and again by local rancher, Tyler. With a little push from the townsfolk of Melody, the two men give in to their attraction.

Lots of great banter between Alec and his BFF, Demarco. Loved the humorous internal thoughts.

True is a heart-warming, feel good story. It’s an enjoyable city boy meets country boy romance that I would recommend. I liked the author’s writing style and storytelling. He sets the scenes out clearly and presents each character through the action and dialogue. The chemistry between Alec and Tyler sizzles away nicely and there are several steamy scenes. I liked the part played by the various secondary characters. Overall, the story moves swiftly and flows well. There’s a satisfying amount of angst and the climax is exciting. I noticed several minor continuity errors and there were quite a few errors in the text that could easily have been resolved with a final/thorough proofread/edit.

I really enjoyed this story of Alec and Tyler. The plot was engaging and the characters well-rounded, and I found myself wishing I could meet friends like them who are so down-to-earth. The small town in Montana depicted here reminded me a lot of the movie Big Eden, and if you like that film, you'll love this book: two guys you root for to get together, a steamy romance, and a picturesque setting. What more could you ask for?

Getting Away!

True: WOW! Amazing story! I loved the challenges and surprises throughout the story. Alec needed to get out of DC to really see what other places have to offer. I loved how on talent night Tyler sang the song how he thought of them from his heart. He will always love Brett but doesn't mean he can't find love again. I loved the small town. Great story and writing.

Alec has just broken up with his last boyfriend. He's a compassionate and sometimes gullible caretaker in each of his relationships and it's time for a time-out. He books a cabin to escape to Montana to write and reset his life. When he arrives, in the middle of a blizzard, he meets cowboy Tyler. Tyler is a lonely widower who is warm and self-sufficient. Tyler doesn't need anything from Alec, but they certainly both was something from each other. Can love find its way when they live so far from each other and are from different worlds? This book has a gentle, sure love with a little angst and a lot of pop icon references. It's passionate and just lovely.

I enjoyed this story very much. Alec and Tyler seemed to fit perfectly. The dead husband seemed to be around a lot, which I did not like very much. I would have found it nice, if Tyler could have let him go - I feld like as if Alec was replacing him by living his life. In the end the book was very nice.

Nicely written romance

Loved the basis in Dupont Circle and seamless storytelling. Could have provided a little more on the developing relationship. It reads more as a novella, but does keep me engaged to read about the next couple.

The storyline is interesting and artfully sets up a couple of classic MM romance tropes - and then turns in an unexpected direction to lead the reader in a different direction. Well done! Good character development, and while the combination of cowboy/author is an odd one, it seems to work.

I really enjoyed this book. It's the first time I've read anything by this author. I found the writing style to be refreshing. He does a great job of capturing banter of two gay best friends Alex and Demarco, full of shade and references to pop culture. It was very authentic and something that is missing with a lot of mm romance novels.

I also liked that there was a contrasting theme throughout the book. First, there is the DC vs. Montana physical location contrast. Then the old love vs. new love where Alec tries to figure out what he really wants. Finally, on a personal level, what kind of writer does Alec want to be? He discovers his previous writing was not as deep or personal as what he finds himself writing when he is removed from his old live. These contrasts all help him find what is True.

If anything, I wanted to story to be longer and more developed. It's a quick read and very fast-paced in some scenes with the dialogue. Definitely some opportunities here to make a great story even better! I will definitely read more from this author.

Alec and Tyler are fantastic together!
I loved the flow of this story. The main and secondary characters were all relatable and realistic, which is always a huge plus for me! There is a ton of fun banter and engaging dialogue throughout this story. It definitely keeps you turning pages from beginning to end!
Alec hit a stall in his personal and professional life and was ready for a change of pace and scenery. He planned on a five week sabbatical to small town Montana to regroup and recharge.
What he didn't expect was arriving I'm a snowstorm or meeting Tyler. Tyler is a widower who is also trying to overcome and work through his past. This ranch owner has a heart of gold and proves to be just what Alec needs!
I definitely cannot wait to read the rest of this series, and hopefully, see much more of Alec's bestfriend Demarco!

City meets Country. Alec seems to have it all. A good job, a townhome in DC and a hot as hell boyfriend . Little does Alec know Mac is once again cheating and this time Alec has had it. Mac has to go! Alec had been contemplating going away for a few weeks to recharge and maybe write a book and now seems like the perfect time. Off to Montana in a mountain cabin he goes. City boy is not prepared for snowstorms, building fires and snowmobiling but thanks to Tylerhe adjusts pretty quickly. Tyler has been widowed for 5 years. The sadness still consumes him but Alec is just what he needs. As soon as they start spending time together feelings grow and soon they are both head over heels. Mac rears his ugly head and Alec races back to DC . Once there he realized his mistake and immediately flies back out to Montana. Tyler is waiting with open arms. This is a beautiful story of learning and moving forward. Learning to leave the past behind and moving forward after bad experiences.

Alec is a writer/journalist in Washington DC, who has once again caught his live-in boyfriend Mac cheating on him, for the third time. This time, he has decided not to take him back. To clear his mind, he takes a five-week sabbatical to a Montana small town to write a book. There he meets ranch owner Tyler, who helps him when he arrives in the middle of a snow storm. Tyler continues to help Alec get settled in the small cabin that he rented, and the two of them enter into a relationship and eventually fall in love. Tyler would like Alec to stay in Montana, and Alec feels he must return to Washington, DC. To make things more complicated, Alec's ex-boyfriend calls Alec with a big problem, which worries Alec. Will Alec stay in small-town Montana with Tyler, or should he go back to the bustle of the big city in Washington, DC?

True by Timothy Warren is book number one in the Tales of the Circle series. This is Alec Collier and Tyler Quinn’s story.

I really enjoyed Alec and Tyler’s story. I loved Alec’s humor especially in situations where he was feeling uncomfortable or out of his comfort zone. Tyler is more of a quiet person and loved the scenes with him performing on talent night. He is a really an emotional and caring man who has lived through some difficult times. But Alec is just what Tyler needs in his life and Tyler is perfect for Alec. The supporting characters added to the story too. At times Alec and his best friend Demarco had me laughing so I hope we get Demarco’s story in this series.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I was happy to get an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed Alec's fun and sassy attitude, and it came as a bit of a surprise to me simply based on my own preconceptions about the cover. I also loved his friend DeMarco and am looking forward to the next book to hear his story. Alec went through a series of misadventures, meeting Tyler and growing along the way. Alec and Tyler were sexy, funny, and passionate together. But I also liked that their relationship was more substantial than just sex. I really enjoyed this read, and didn't put it down once I got started. I'm looking forward to more from this author.

True is a new series by a new author to me. The book has a great flow to it, easy to read, with likeable characters. Alex is from the city, a writer and needed to get away from his life in the city. Tyler is from the country, sweet, and loveable guy. Alex is sassy, been hurt so many times by his ex that he needed to get away from it all. Tyler lost someone special and takes a lot for him to let Alex in. The book is sweet, funny, some sass from Demarco, and I enjoyed this book. Timothy Warren did a tremendous job with this book. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Alec was fun and had sassy attitude I adored him. I hated his relationship with Mac, Mac was so disrespectful and self destructive and what he did to Alec. Ugh so moving on...

Tyler is a widower living in Montana. When he meets Alec his sadness kind of takes a back seat. These two opposite guys are just wonderful together. I love how it all came together at the end.

Such a wonderful story I definitely recommend this book!
