These SEALs fought alongside the Marines during the bug wars. They're the best of the best. But nothing could have prepared them for this.
Strange interference and what looks like metal pyramids draw the SEALs' attention to the planet. Once they have their feet on the ground though, everything goes to hell.
Teammates go missing, aggressive robot animals appear, and the mystery of what awaits the SEALs inside the pyramids may destroy even the best of the best.
What mysteries of this place will the team uncover? Will they be able to maintain their camaraderie in the face of turmoil?
If they fail, future operations in the area might never stand a chance.
Prime Evil takes you on an action-packed page turner in the spirit of spooky SciFi like Event Horizon and Horizon Zero Dawn.
JUSTIN SLOAN wrote video games before becoming a full-time author, with credits on such games as Game of Thrones, Tales from the Borderlands, Walking Dead, and Marvel and mobile games. Now you can find his military science fiction and space superheroes books on Amazon, KU, and Audible.com. He taught Muay Thai kickboxing and Marine Corps Martial Arts, and can play three songs on the bagpipes. Justin holds advanced degrees in international relations/economics and creative writing. Oh, and he acted in movies for a bit - all small roles though.
“Let the mind wander to random places, because then the body forgets about the reality of the hell you’re in.” What a blasting start! Justin Sloan has a fantastic artist, the covers of his books are always amazing! From page 1 I was catapulted straight into a battle of tremendous magnitude and importance! I kept going until it was done and look forward to more. Riveting, nonstop action. Still hot from a recent battle with the alien “bugs”, what was going to be a reconnaissance mission turned out into a deadly, mysterious and horrifying confrontation with a totally alien and different being or beings. What an unexpected and astounding ending! I’m still reeling from the effects. A powerful story of war and the consequences it provokes on a soldier’s psyche, the futility of death, injuries, insanity, because it’s not only about surviving a battle or war but also of surviving the inner psychological affects. One thing that called me was the realistic thoughts and situations of the characters, their everyday lives, not only some super heroes, but normal, down to earth people like us, with their insecurities, phobias, their urges, it really drew me in. Emotive scenarios abound, which is appreciated, because that makes the characters real persons. The characters have become friends, like people you'd want to hang out with. Each scene, each situation was harrowing, with unnerving and nail biting moments! I Totally enjoyed the idea, characters, dialogue and the have high hopes for where the series may go. A different military SciFi, with a unique plot. Sloan always knows how to captivate me! Looking forward to reading Primal Link #2!
Let me just say, Woah! I was not ready for that. The action in Prime Evil comes at you hard and fast. That’s pretty typical of Justin Sloan books, but this one was still intense and even a bit creepy. The title is very fitting and I’m definitely hooked to see where the story goes next.
When command gets strange readings from a planet that they can’t decipher, they send in the Seals to investigate. Things quickly go sideways, as they’re met with strange problems before they ever reach the ground. Once on the ground, though, it only gets worse. The Seals investigate this strange new world and an even stranger enemy that they are not ready for.
As I said, this book is packed with action. If you like military space battles, this is your book. The action is fast and intense, but there’s also a bit of mystery involved as the Seals try to uncover and determine the planet’s native species and their intentions. This book does not end in a nice, neat bow, but it serves as a sort of prequel to Primal Link by Justin Sloan and L. Bowers which will be out in a couple of weeks, so you won’t have to wait long to see what happens next. I am definitely ready for more and can’t wait for Primal Link to continue the story in some way.
If you like books with space military themes and things like Event Horizon or Horizon Zero Dawn, you’ll love this one. It gave me a sort of Halo video game feel even though the stories aren’t exactly along the same lines. This book deals more with the whole team of Seals (although primarily Chief Bryant) facing an overwhelming enemy. The enemy is something different than I’m used to seeing in books like these and it’s a clever take on an alien enemy. I would love to see this made into a movie some day!
A bit different but shall keep quite a few people happy although not my cup of tea , I did like how it was written and how the characters all worked as part of the suspense and action.
This story is so appropriately named Prime Evil. I’m left with incredibly mixed feelings. There was so much battling against terrible odds that it was tiring to read it. In a good way. The characters were very tough and hardy, very easy to understand and like. And then there’s the plot and the world building. Both are awesome. Some parts remind me so much of the movie Starship Troopers and I do love that movie. Overall I would’ve given the book 5 stars but I disliked the very ending and the fact that it’s a standalone. I feel as though it’s a cliffhanger leading to the next novel. Darn it!
A somewhat strange book to read but worth while to get.
You are taken on a journey with many twists and turns that at times leaving wondering if they might make it or not. They are on another planet finding how different they are and how dangerous they are. The author did a good job.
As I read further and further along, the narrative felt more and more like watching a B rated movie, too many cliches and references to other action heroe types of movies and too often unfinished thoughts as if I was supposed to know what the characters were thinking so I read faster to get to the end and get it over with. The sexual focus or tension made it even worse toward the end, since that's all the last two surviving characters could think of. There is plenty of action for those whom enjoy militaristic stories but for me the protagonists should be better developed, basically the military brut type seek and destroy kind of novel which this book is like is not for me but to rescue some of it, the lifeforms the jarheads run into on their last mission have great potential, and that's the only creative part I give the writer some credit for, the potential to be executed into a truly sci-fi epic is on that alien planet.
