Maiden Voyage #1

Ryder's Guardian

Rate this book
For Maiden Voyage guitarist, Ryder Hampton, life is great. He and his bandmates are embarking upon an epic European double headlining tour with their friends from Social Sinners with the band Embrace the Fear opening for them.

Since joining Maiden Voyage in his twenties, Ryder’s life has been a whirlwind of the cliched, “Sex, drugs and monumental doses of Rock ‘n Roll. And he’s loved every minute of it from the sold out shows to the revolving door of bed partners.

Max Hightower has always been a team player. Whether it was working with his team in the Marines or now with the private security company, Ventura Security. These days, his job was to have the backs of a band of musicians. One band member in particular he'd allowed to get too close and now emotions were involved.

Ryder Hampton had left his mark on Max's closed-off heart and now Max's job was in jeopardy. Falling for your principal wasn't safe – nor smart. Neither was missing the mark on protecting him and now Max was guilty of both. The security detail he'd begged his boss for had turned out to be the one that could ruin him and shatter his heart too. Max couldn't allow either option to happen.

Maiden Voyage series must be read in order as each book starts where the last one ended but is from another band members point of view:

1 – Ryder’s Guardian
2 – Derek’s Destiny
3 – Jaxson’s Nemesis
4 – Shadow’s Light

All the hype and excitement finally paid off with such a good story. TL Travis and Ann Lister did a really fantastic job of bringing the talent and the bodyguard together.

Ryder was a brat, there was no ifs, ands, or buts about it. When he was first introduced, I always knew he'd need a firm hand, and Max was even more than I thought he'd be. Ryder was the guitarist for Maiden Voyage and he had a major crush on Max, even going as far as catching the man off guard with a kiss months earlier. Both men were hesitant to follow through, but with a tour on the horizon and both Max and Ryder riding the waves of want, there was no way they could avoid each other with proximity being so close. How was either man going to survive the impossible? You have to read to find out.

What I liked about this book was that had I not known each writer's characters and writing style, there was no way I'd know who was "talking". The writing style flowed and that is not always the issue with first time writing partners. I seriously cannot WAIT for the next book in the series and it was awesome to get bits and pieces of the men from Social Sinners involved, and appearances from Fizzbo of the Guarding the Gods fame.

What I didn't like? That the book ended. I so wanted more to be written, but then I am greedy, LOL. Great job ladies and I quietly wait for the next book. [Lies all lies cus I will be bugging TL shortly for more.] Oh, there IS a surprise at the end of the book. My lips are sealed. So, in the main time, hop on over and one click for an adventure.

I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the authors.

Ryder's seriously attracted to his band's new bodyguard and lays a hot kiss on him after a show, then disappears on Max after. Which has Max obsessing over the brat, much to Max's dismay. He knows better than to entertain anything with someone he's charged with protecting, but he simply cannot help himself.

This is a great start to a new series. I loved the push and pull between Max and Ryder, the tension, and how Max gives Ryder the guidance he needs. The chemistry between the two is hot and I loved getting the beginnings of what I can tell will be an interesting, emotionally-layered series full of great characters. There is also some suspense and action going on, which gives the story an edge over the typical rockstar romance. The only thing I didn't like was the sort of abrupt ending, but I have a feeling there will be more to Ryder and Max's story in the upcoming installments. Can't wait for Derek (Ryder's best friend) to have his story next.

Oh, how I love Ryder's Guardian, the first book in the Maiden Voyage series by TL Travis and Ann Lister.

As an avid fan of both authors, who each excel in writing fabulous rock romances, I have been excited for this one since it was announced. And it is everything I was hoping it would be!

I love these guys and their large groups of friends, who are like family. From the very start, I felt like I was back with my own family. They are all fantastic characters who I have come to love over the years.

This book is the romance between Max and Ryder. Cue the boss/employee, rock god/bodyguard tropes. They are super sweet, funny, and cute as a couple. Their story is hot and romantic, as well as full of action and danger, as they have to deal with a stalker.

Of course, the forbidden aspect of their relationship adds to the fun with the secrets and sneaking around.

The writing style is fabulous, as this writing duo crafts multi-layered, interesting, and lovable characters. The storyline is riveting, leaving me up late into the night to finish in one sitting.

As I mentioned before, with the large group of friends, it is the continued involvement of past characters that make this book so special. These authors have managed to bring together several series, entwining them perfectly.

And then later, later they go and practically rip my heart out! Commence emotion overload. I am not mentioning specifics, but be warned.

As a fan of music myself, I love the following lines. "People liked songs that resonated within them...Everyone assimilates lyrics to events in their lives...We are drawn to songs, to lyrics that call out to us for one reason or another..."

Ryder's Guardian is an amazing addition to the resumes of TL Travis and Ann Lister. If you are a fan or rocker romances, this is a must read. I know I'll be adding it to my re-read list and anxiously anticipating the next book in the series.

I'm a long-time fan of Ann Lister's rock gods, but haven't read any of TL Travis' work before so I was interested to see what a collaborative piece would read like. I'm happy to say by the end I was happy to be along for the ride on tour with Maiden Voyage. There are some references to storylines from both authors' previous series as well as appearances from some characters, but I think Ryder's Guardian stands alone well enough. It certainly didn't detract from my experience that I wasn't familiar with the members of the other bands on the tour with Maiden Voyage, but I am interested enough to add the Social Sinners series to my TBR.

The chemistry between Ryder and Max is amazing but both men have some insecurities and emotional baggage to work through before they can fully commit to each other, but there's plenty of heat whilst they're sneaking around in the meantime. There is a bit of an imbalance, though...we get a good bit of detail about Ryder's childhood to give context to his current behaviour and reactions but I would have liked more of Max's background. As I said, though, there is wicked hot chemistry between the MCs - enough to make them risk both livelihood and life. These guys are perfectly crazy for each other, which is super sweet.

There are three main strands to the plot; the forbidden relationship, the security threat to the band and the event at the end (no spoilers here). The first and last story arcs were well-written, but I would have liked there to be more flesh on the bones of the security threat. This felt a bit 'meh' to me...a bit 'oh yeah, that happened' and it deserved a little more time spent on it.

Overall, Ryder's Guardian is a very good start to the Maiden Voyage series and I'm looking forward to seeing what the authors have in store for the rest of the band. 3.5*

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This is another sexy rockstar/bodyguard romp. Ryder is the bratty guitarist for Maiden Voyage and Max is the security guard protecting him on a European tour. When his boss forbids Max from any non-professional contact with Ryder, the forced separation just makes the attraction between the two men burn hotter.

After so many Rock Gods books - and spinoff Rock Gods books, there isn’t anything particularly new or fresh in Ryder and Max’s story - but it works. The sexual tension between Max and Ryder is almost unbearable for the first half of the book and their connection is pretty special in the second half. I didn’t feel the same emotional connection to the characters in this book as I felt with the characters in the first few Rock Gods books but I enjoyed the story and liked the characters. This is a steamy read with several BDSM lite power exchange scenes that are pretty hot.

I liked the European tour setting for the book but I had to laugh when the guards are confronted with fully armed baddies. I’m not sure the American authors understand how rare guns are in most of Europe and how difficult it is to get hold of the kind of weapons described outside of the USA. The strength of this book lies in the relationships. I found the action scenes too easy to predict and a little bit exaggerated - but no more exaggerated than in some of the previous books.

This book is described as the first in a new series. The book might work on it’s own but it follows on from nearly 20 previous Rock Gods books and subsequent spinoff series. Readers will probably need to have read at least a few of the Rock Gods books to understand the constant references to characters, bands and incidents in the previous series.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the first book in the new series, but it gives fans of both authors a reunion with some familiar friends from previous books. I really enjoy rock star tour chaos stories and this one certainly did not disappoint. Add in a very sexy, devoted to his duties ex-military bodyguard who had fallen for his charge, and we are inevitably in for a treat.

Once Max gives in to the chemistry which fizzes between him and Ryder, the intensity certainly matches the danger. As they actually spend time with each other, they both admit to themselves that this is more than just a fling. Now they have to broach that fact with each other...

I had a lot of fun following their tour adventures; how could one not enjoy the dynamics between the guys, the bands, and the bodyguards? I am looking forward to seeing what happens next in the Maiden Voyage journey!

ps. I did really feel skeptical about the amount of summer skiing/snowboarding that they managed, and the danger. It was however a useful plot device.

Ryder is the lead guitarist in the band Maiden Voyage. The band is on a worldwide tour... and they are taking a security team with them. Max Hightower is excellent at his security job and now he has Ryder as his principal on the tour.

One night, after a show... Ryder stops just offstage and kisses Max. The kiss just about causes Max to spontaneously combust and then Ryder is gone. Thus begins the conflict for these to men.

Max is very serious about his job and realizes that he needs to stop obsessing over Ryder. Not only is a relationship with someone he's protecting a bad idea, but it's also against the rules and could result in him losing his job. And even though Ryder doesn't seem all that interested... he continues to flirt with Max to the point at which he's about ready to lose his mind.

What Max doesn't know is that events in Ryder's past have left him feeling as though no one would want to be in a relationship with him. He also thinks that Max is in a relationship. To entertain himself, Ryder continues to flirt with Max!

There's intense chemistry in this book. Max and Ryder are definitely sparking with one another the moment they meet. They're not on the same page immediately because of varying circumstances. There is a lot of sex in this book in spite of the fact that Ryder and Max are sneaking around for a majority of it!

The great part about this novel is that when the two main characters get together, the action certainly continues. there's a valid reason for the security team to be there concerned. There's action and an accident... and you certainly won't be wanting for hooks to keep you reading!

I really loved the supporting characters that were introduced as well which makes me really happy that this series is continuing. I already had a peek at the upcoming titles and I'm delighted to see that some of my favorite characters are coming in their own stories.

I was not as enamored of this story as I was with the Social Sinners series. It felt a little jerky to me. I liked Ryder and Max, just felt the story lacked something. Just my opinion. I will read the next book in hopes of things starting to gel!

This book felt like coming home to me. I just love the rocker/body guard/security romance. I couldn't put this book down. Ryder and Max are so hot and steamy together. Throw in a stalker and you got a little danger as well. This is the first book in the series and I can't wait for the next one. This book also combines characters from several other series by the authors which makes it that much more like coming home to me.

I strongly suggest you read TL Travis Social Sinners 1st....

Good start to a new series. The beginning was confusing as I didn't know it's a spinoff. I liked both Max and Ryder even though Ryder could be very immature. Looking forward to the next book.

Edit** I went back and read the Social Sinner.

Ryder’s Guardian by TL Travis & Ann Lister is many things.

Infatuation and secret crushes.
Workplace romance with a forbidden connotation.
Meddling friends and a ridged boss.
Stalker fans.
Unpredictable Mother Nature.

These aspects fuse together, providing entertainment, a sweet romance and a plethora of steam between a bratty rock star and his stoic bodyguard.

Lead guitarist for the band Maiden Voyage, Ryder Hampton is outwardly a happy go lucky flirt and jokester. Internally, he struggles with a past that leaves him feeling unworthy and unlovable. The emotional abuse, manipulation and callous treatment in his past haunts him to this day.

Brawn combining with a military background in the marines, makes Max Hightower excellent as a Ventura Security bodyguard for the band, which is embarking on a worldwide tour. Max takes his job extremely seriously but his obsession with Ryder, the flirty little shit, may be his undoing.

There is serious attraction radiating from both Ryder and Max that only intensifies through a mischievous kiss Ryder surprisingly lays on Max. Neither can get the kiss out of his mind and the stoicism of the bodyguard only increases Ryder’s flirtation to a point when the bratty Rockstar needs to be “punished”. Who knew that a little spanking action was a turn on?

What makes ‘Ryder’s Guardian’ stand out is the combination of a prohibited relationship, a stalker security threat, and Mother Nature wrecking her havoc.

Initially I thought Ryder was a selfish little brat using fame as a weapon of superiority. His lack of comprehension surrounding the ramifications of his actions is unnerving. However, when I discovered the façade for what it is, and “listened” to his internal dialog, it became clear that he wields this as a veil of protection. Still, the reactions he pulls from Max are humorous and extremely erotic in nature. I couldn’t help but anticipate their next encounter. Hypocrite much?

What makes Ryder’s Guardian stand out is the combination of a prohibited relationship, a stalker security threat, and Mother Nature wrecking her havoc. The culmination of events, and the couple’s powerful compatibility, serve to solidify an inherent bond that weaves Ryder and Max together, as it disintegrates the “push” from their push/pull connection. What more can I say? Ryder and Max simply exude passion with their extreme chemistry.

Ryder’s Guardian is definitely an enjoyable story, with its forbidden nature and unlikely duo. I have a soft spot for the gruff rugged big type with a sensitive side for his soulmate… and that was spot-on here. While theirs is not really a dominant relationship, there is a hint of who is in charge in the bedroom and the times “punishment” is delivered are perfect – take that you little brat! Of course, the brattiness is somewhat of an act and Max gets just as much from Ryder as he gives. Looking forward to the next installment in this Maiden Voyage series.

I swear Ann Lister writes the best rock stars. I was so excited to see this pairing with T.L. Travis and these two authors nailed this book 1 for the new Maiden Voyage band (series).

Ryder and Max had some serious chemistry, no matter which part of the story I was at, I could feel their chemistry as a physical presence jumping right off the page.

I loved that Ryder acted like a spoiled rock star when he was really not. This character had a depth to him that I didn't expect and truly created a well-rounded character. He knows what he wants and nothing will stop him, not even death-defying gravity.

Max is exactly the cliche former-marine-turned-bodyguard; but not at the same time. Challenging authority may not come naturally to him unless it comes to Ryder.

This book contained sexy rock stars, bromantic humor, sexy times, death-defying bad choices, suspense, a bit of angst, and a HEA. Naturally, you can assume that I loved it. My only negative comment is that I wish there was more written on Ryder's early struggles in the band, I felt there were some plot holes there. But overall a great read, a solid 4.5 stars.

ALSO - bonus points because these authors provided [hands down] the best playlist for this book EVER!!!!

And as always from my reviews, my top quotes of the book:

"That mountian, as he called him, was on my radar and if anyone was gonna climb him - it was going to be me."

"In a short period of time, the flighty, fiercely talented musician had gotten under my skin to the point I could feel him crawling around in there even when he's nowhere to be seen."

"From our darkest pain, comes the sincerest of lyrics."

"His thoughtful words silenced the demons that forever tormented me."

I was excited for this book. I loved Social Sinners and was hoping this would be as good! I was not dissappointed! It was Brilliant!

Having met Ryder in Social Sinners i thought i knew a bit about him but there is so much more! The first few chapters opened him up and i just wanted to hug him! His younger years weren't the best but thankfully his love of music got him his first job and an adult figure he badly needed and then it brought him Derek. From there Maiden Voyage was born. He'd had fun in the Rockstar life but his temprament told you enough was enough. Thank goodness for Max!

Max's spidey senses hit the roof after his first kiss with Ryder. He followed that sense and Ryder. Not knowing how receptive Ryder would be to him i loved how he put himself on the line. Both with his job and emotions out in the open Max put everything out there and it was exactly what Ryder needed. He was the "grown up" of the two of them and it made for a great dynamic.

I loved them so much together. They felt the connection and ran with it. Both had a lot to lose but they had this gut feeling it was worth it and boy was it! Hot hot hot, smoking hot chemistry between them that left me sweating! The bonus scene you can download was a great treat and made me really happy! But it was their emotional connection that hits you in the chest. Love them!

Loved seeing the Sinners in here and can't wait to see more throughout this series.

Loved the story and the plot. It kept me inside their world from page 1. I'm now dying for thd rest of the guys! Not sure who's next, maybe Derek? Theres something going on with him but any of them i will be happy with.

Exciting start to this series! Bring them on!!

This book jumps right into the storyline from the get-go, and sets the pace for the book; FAST. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, and it’s consistent throughout the book. It’s told in dual POV, so we are allowed to see the story unfold from both Max’s and Ryder’s perspective.

Ryder’s band, Maiden Voyage, is on a joint tour with Social Sinners and their opening act, Embrace the Fear. We mostly spend time with members of Maiden Voyage, but Social Sinners are the main side characters, leaving their opening act mostly just mentioned in passing. At one point, Ryder mentions ETF being a newer band, and I’m wondering if they will get their own series down the road.

Ryder has some growing up to do, but his behavior is mostly a mask to hide how he really feels. Even he knows his go-to response is a lot to handle, and he’s usually left embarrassed over it. He can’t seem to put a lid on his foot-in-mouth syndrome. Max likes him anyways. He’s definitely annoyed, but it’s also a mask Max hides behind to try to keep a lid on his attraction to Ryder since it could cost him his job as a bodyguard. This detail is something that Ryder doesn’t give much consideration to, at first. He wants to get under Max’s skin by taunting him. It works, but once they come together, Ryder begins to show he’s not as selfish as he comes across.

Things are not smooth sailing on this international tour. There’s near fighting between bands, really long bus rides when flying would’ve been faster, a viable threat to the safety of the three bands, and a ski trip gone wrong. Add in a forbidden romance, and you’ve got Ryder’s Guardian. Boy, does this energetic man need one, too.

I enjoyed this book. It is book one in the series. Halfway through the book, I realized there must be at least one book about Social Sinners, and Max’s employers and sure enough, there’s two different series, one for each author. This book can be read without reading either of those, but I suspect reading them will enhance your experience reading Maiden Voyage’s series. You will gain more knowledge of the side characters and I’ve already added them to my TBR. Social Sinners book series is written by T.L. Travis, and you can read about Fizzbo in the series Guarding the Gods is by Ann Lister. Ann Lister and T.L. Travis come together and meld these worlds in the Maiden Voyage series. I’m looking forward to reading more in this series as they are released.

A new series from Ann Lister and T.L. Travis that includes things that both authors are wonderful at - rock stars and bodyguards.
The story itself is enjoyable. A hot connection develops between rock star, Ryder, and his bodyguard, Max. There is a physical attraction between right from the outset with each wanting to know more of the other. There's obvious danger in the forbidden nature of anything happening between them but also in the threats that the band are receiving.
Max is very professional, always with Ryder's safety at the front of his mind. Unless of course it's when Ryder is really trying to push his buttons then it leads to a couple of really hot moments.
Whilst I really liked the plot and the story overall, I did struggle to connect to Ryder's character. He seemed a little childish at times though I don't want to take anything away from the hurts that he has experienced in his past. As a couple, they really come through some tough times, dealing with their relationship being uncovered, the danger towards the band and a big event that makes things clearer for them both. They seem perfectly matched, especially with their chemistry.
Overall I liked reading the story and relationship development but it wasn't really one that grabbed my attention. I am interested in seeing what happens with other bandmates and bodyguards so will be looking to read book two and see who gets their match and HEA.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Ryder’s Guardian

I loved this collaboration between Ann and T.L. bringing together the guardian and rock star.

Ryder is a guitarist in the band Maiden Voyage and he lives the life of a rock star sleeping with almost anyone. However he has his own insecurities as well. He has never had anyone put him as a priority and always left behind.

Max is working as a security guard for Ventura Security. His charge is to keep his principal and band safe while on tour. He is driven and highly protective.

And oh how a kiss can light the flame that desires to burn.

Max and Ryder have a great connection, attraction, and chemistry. However, mixing business and pleasure, in this case, could be a life or death situation as Max is there to protect the bands and his principal requiring him to be focused and on top of his game at all time. Little did he know what a little brat named Ryder will do to throw off that focus.

I loved their story of finding love and having to figure out how to balance work and personal business. I loved catcher up with Fizzbo and loved the guys in Maiden Voyage.

Yay, this is the new series by TL Travis writing together with Ann Lister. The series features the band Maiden Voyage that we already know from the Social Sinner series by TL Travis.
Although it's a new series, I feel its good to know Social Sinners because you ll meet a lot of characters and dynamics here from Social Sinners.

This first book is about Ryder the guitarist finding his Happy Ever After with Max, one of the security guards which doesn't come without trouble as you might guess ;)

In my mind, the book went off in a bit of a rocky start but pretty quickly smoothed out and let me get into a nice reading groove. I liked how it showed a lot of Ryder's personality, especially the vulnerable parts. I would have loved though if the authors would have found a way to give Ry more opportunity to actually get to know Max. I get that Max knew a lot about Ryder from watching him during his security job but for Ryder, it kinda felt like it was a purely physical attraction at the beginning and without an opportunity to really get to know Max, suddenly it was a full-blown love. Nevertheless, the two of them make for a real sweet couple that complements each other very well and has awesome chemistry in the bedroom ;) the authors mad it rly hot for u guys!

I think everyone who already enjoyed Social Sinners, as well as ppl who enjoy reading about band life and a stoic but caring security guard, are right here ;)

This is a good start to a new series with a great storyline and intriguing characters. It did start out pretty slowly and it took me quite a while to get into the story but once the pace picked up I really enjoyed it. Ryder and Max are an interesting couple and they didn't seem to fit together at all but as the story progressed their relationship made a lot more sense. I love Max but it took me a while to like Ryder as he was a jerk in the beginning but as his past is revealed his attitude is much more understandable. They do have great chemistry and a connection that gets stronger as they spend more time together. There is some angst caused by a lack of communication between Max and Ryder as well as the threats the band is facing. I do wish that there was a clear resolution to what happened with the men that were after Ryder and more background information about the band would have been great. There are some interesting secondary characters and I look forward to reading the next book in this new and entertaining series.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Ryder’s Guardian by authors T.L. Travis and Ann Lister is the first book in the Maiden Voyage series. Normally rock and roll stories are not for me. But this story is amazing. I loved it and really could not put it down. This story is written in dual POV which really helps me get into the mindset of both men.
Ryder is part of a band. Hot-tempered and can be a brat when he really wants to. I liked that even though he cannot be tamed he has a great heart. He is the wild and free friend I know I would love to have around.
Max is a bodyguard. Part of the security detail for Ryder’s band. Max knows it could cost him his job to get involved with Ryder. But something about the man makes him want him more than anything he has ever wanted before.
Overall great story. The simmering heat between the men made me keep turning the pages and wanting more. I also want to know more about the other men in the band. I will be looking for more from this series in the future. It truly is amazing and well-done read.

Sexy MM Romance but so much more!

Travis and Lister pen a sexy MM romance story in Ryder’s Guardian, the first book in the Maiden Voyage series. Maiden Voyage just happens to be the band that Ryder is the guitarist. I have read work from both authors, and enjoyed both of them. The characters were realistic and carried a lot of baggage, which is perfect for this type of story. There is not just the boy meets boy, angst and back together. The story follows the band on an double headline tour with Social Sinners (another great MM series, so check it out.) Ryder and Max are polar opposites, and now, Ryder has triggered something deep inside him. I really enjoyed this story, so if you love a good MM erotica with a great plot, this is the story to read, and it's just the beginning. The author's technique of intense and raw characters and great plotlines is a gift. I look forward to reading many more stories from both of these authors. This book is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews.

4.5 Stars...A great start to the book as Ryder and Max re-meet up again. There was a book previous to this one where that these two had a sneaked in and had a hot scene between them, I think it was "Switching Octives" but not 100%. Their chemistry continues in this book, this series needs to be read in order. Smoking hot scenes with a brat and Max teaching him a lesson and Ryder takes a few risks. Ryder knew how to play a game with Max and push his buttons made it fun to read, yah hes a brat. I really liked the story as we get to know other characters in this especially Mac's boss (I can't wait to read his story of falling in love). Drama happens near the finish but it all works out for a HEA. Told in both characters POVs. A golden rule don't fall for the clients. 😉

Ryder and the rest of the band where getting ready for another tour.
Max was their bands new bodyguard and couldn't stuff it up, of course being close to Ryder was a hot bonus.

Enjoyable rock star/bodyguard romance

Good start to a series, written by two talented authors. This was an enjoyable read, if a little predictable. I liked the interaction between Max and Ryder. There was some push and pull, misunderstandings on both ends, initially preventing them from getting together.

It's obvious though, that both of them are very much into one another. It's a lovely getting to know each other tale. I really enjoy books that include different points of view. There's one or two curves thrown in along the way, but these just ultimately demonstrated how much they cared for one another. Also love how Ryder's lyrics summed up the feelings between them, and meant so much to Max.

I have been an Ann Lister fan for ages, but T.L. Travis is a new author to me. Having said that, I feel like I was at a slight disadvantage in this story since it crossed over characters from each of their series. While it is a standalone, I found myself confused when assumptions were made that I knew things I didn’t. For example, when Ryder and Max first “met.” I kept thinking, “Where was that? Did I just miss it?” It wasn’t until I was about a quarter of the way in that I realized I had missed a whole other series. All this to say, I would’ve enjoyed the story much more had I had the background that was assumed. As for this story, it was interesting, but I just never “bonded” well with the characters. My fault due to my lack of prior knowledge.

I absolutely loved Ryder and Max’s story; it was everything I wanted it to be and so much more.

Ryder and Max were hot and sexy. Max’s dominant persona between the sheets and Ryder’s bratty nature took things to a whole new level. I enjoyed watching them falling deeper in love.

The events towards the end made my heart stop. My emotions were all over the place but Max and his love for Ryder shined with an intensity that gave me the warm fuzzies. Ryder deserved to be loved and Max did it effortlessly.

Great opening book for this series, recommended

I am a long time reader of Ann Lister but this is the first book of TL Travis I've read.the two have written an excellent book with characters i know and ones I want to know more about. Ryder is the lead guitarist for Maiden Voyage. He is a childish, self-centered brat. his bodyguard Max has been tasked with looking after his welfare, which is not easy when Ryder loves to be a daredevil, which includes balcony hopping. As Max & Ryder grow closer, a stalker seems help bent on claiming Ryder as his own. Really good read looking forward to book 2.

A great start to a new series about the band, Maiden Voyage. Ryder and Max certainly make for a tantalising rockstar/bodyguard romance. Both guys desperately want each other and their chemistry is steaming hot, made even more so by the forbidden aspect of their relationship and all the inevitable sneaking around. And on top of being busy trying to deny the development of anything real, and overcome past hurts, they also have to deal with a security threat that brings just the right balance of danger and action to the story. I really liked all the supporting characters as well and I can't wait till we get more from this series!

I had to change my stars down to 3.

There were many parts I just skipped.

It was hard to follow. While this is book 1 in the series, I guess there is another series that we should have read before this as so many characters were mentioned as if we should know the history already.

Add in that the timeline seems weird. I couldn't tell what was last night or last week. There were time gaps from one paragraph to the next without any indication of the night moving on.

I love a good bodyguard romance but this one felt forced. I never really saw a connection between thee two. The amount of time they were forced apart yet grew in a relationship was off.

Max Hightower's job is to protect rockstars. Working for Venura Security, he is entrusted with the task of protecting the hotter than hell Ryder, lead guitarist for Maiden Voyage. Ryder is like a cold glass of water on a hot summer day, he's gorgeous everything Max wants and can't have. Ryder is not unaffected by Max either, he wants him and will stop at nothing to gave him. Lines get crossed and feelings emerge. Max's job is in jeopardy but so is his heart. An accident brings them closer together. Can these two work and play together? I loved this book! Great start to a new series!
