This is the usual great story from this author. It does not disappoint. Sweet romance, mystery, danger and excitement Each story focuses on one character but he way the stories all weave together is amazing. Each story gives the characters. Brandon is a character we had been introduced in previous stories. He was not a particularly likable character for me. He seemed a little sneaky. This story will give you a background on Brandon. His background is a little unorthodox. His immediate family is dysfunctional
His time is spent with neighbor Melodie and her father. Her father is paranoid about safety. He trains Melodie and Brandon on survival and defense tactics. Due to an incident in their past, he is overprotective of both Melodie and her mother. This story starts as a sweet romance between a young couple that leaves us hanging with a murky mystery.

Brandon and Melodie grew up together and her father trains him to protect her. Loads of drama, suspense and steam. Great characters with loads of twists and turns. The characters have lots of depth and the story draws you in. Looking forward to more in the series. I liked it.

This is book eighteen in the Enigma series. This is Brandon's story, there are four words that he mean everything to him - protect, honor, obey and serve.
Have you ever picked up a book knowing that character beforehand, not sure of that character and then having that character kick you in the butt? That is this book for me. Brandon makes Melody a promise, a promise that he as he grows up, he is going to learn that his father will never let him honor. Melody comes her with own bag of secrets. Is it possible for these two find their HEA? What an amazing story! Enjoy!

Fantastic story! Characters that will steal your heart. A storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat and glued to your kindle! For me it was a love- hate deal as the characters face their demons. You will feel their emotions and struggles. A definite must read.

This book is everything you would expect from a Shandi book. Emotional, heartbreaking, phenomenal, suspenseful, and so much more.
After reading the Engima series I knew Brandon was going to have a complicated past full of secrets.
This first part follows his and Melody's life from age six until they are in college.
I loved getting to know Brandon, and learning why he is the way he is. My heart breaks for Melody after everything she had suffered in her young life.
I cannot wait for part 2 to get to learn about more of Brandon's secrets
I absolutely recommend reading the Enigma series due to major spoilers

I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as the rest off the Enigma books because of my impression of Brandon. Boy was I wrong, I devoured it and cannot wait for the second part. It is a sad book in many ways, especially the second half and poor Melody, she has had more bad things happen to her in her short life than anyone should have to experienced. It also has moments of humour and is full of intrigue and raises more questions than it answers and the end will leave you devastated and I hope Ms. Boyes has a happy ending in mind or I might not make it.

Oh, how I love Shandi Boyes books. It's always a roller coaster of emotions and I know I should be prepared by now..... But the truth is I never am. And I love it. I love how she writes her stories and how she brings us into her world. I had been wanting to learn more about Brandon. Brandon and Melody are amazing together but they can't all be rainbows and flowers. I cannot wait to read the next part of this story.

I was NOT looking forward to reading Brandon's story. At all. But I loved it! I think he is one of my favorites now. I wish Izzy would have known how much Brandon actually helped but other than that I wouldn't change a thing. I absolutely loved this entire series. It LIVES in my head. You have to start with the Enigma series and read all the books. Shandi is a mastermind behind this series. She seamlessly keeps all the timelines correct and the characters all have their own problems that get solved. I love them!

Life got in the way and get had more curves thrown at them, one thing after another. But what really broke them was her inability to defend herself and Brandon to bring there. I really hope they get to talk things out but we'll see. Waiting for the next book. Well done Shanti!

Brandon is a character I never really like or connected with after reading his story I now see him slightly different. I understand the person he has become a little more.
My heart breaks for Melody over and over that poor girl has not had a easy normal life

4.4 stats
One thing is for sure, that even in book 18, this series never gets old. The author is continually reinventing ideas to keep the stories fresh and relevant.
It ended on a shipper of a cliffhanger. I don't think it was the person Melody thinks, I think that was too simple. I'm confused that she said what she did but I'm sure that will come out in the next book.

Amazing, and yet so much heartbreak. Be prepared to have your heart shattered over and over for Brandon! We have seen glimpses of him through the Enigma series but now we get to learn what makes him so cranky and downright hateful so often.

I'm going to start by saying I love Shandi's books! If she writes it, im going to read it.
This is Brandon's story, well the behinning. Brace yourself, it's bumpy.
Brandon has previously popped up in another Shandi series- Enigma. This follows his early years and really, it explains a lot already
Brandon comes from a family that leaves a bit to be desired. Really his mom and sick baby bro are the only two that really have any greatness. There are red flags about some siblings and his dad but that comes later.
Mellowy aka Melody aka Brandon's everything is fantastic. Even though her family has a sad, traumatic history, she still seems "intact". Brandon and her are so far in love its crazy. Hes literally been her protector since he was like 6. Their banter, chemistry and ease around each other just flies off the page.
They have shared heartache together. There were certain parts where I thought "oh my God. How could Shandi do this to someone?" And then I remember its just her way. They will somehow come out stronger.
I cant wait for the next piece. I want to see what happens with Brandon, Mellody and some other friends we know from Enigma. I have a few feelings about how some of the story may go, but only time will tell.

They have been in each others lives since they were young children and he has really loved and protected her since then. Both have tragedy in their lives and people who conspire against them, to keep them apart. But they do love each other and as we all know loves conquers all, even if it does take time to do it.
This is an emotion story that really takes the reader on a journey as only Shandi Boyes is able to do. The book is well written but there were a few things that did not make sense and I don't think were properly researched, which is a shames as it would have been easy. But otherwise this is a great addition to the series and was a wonderful story to read. A definite recommendation to other readers.

Then something happened that put an end to their romance, something Melody experienced that she could never explain. I found this book fascinating reading. Brandon and Melody shared their early childhood, Brandon was taught by Melody's father to protect her from harm, until, due to circumstances beyond his control, he was unable to be there when she needed him the most. This book ends with a cliff hanger, their story will continue in the next book.

I Never even imagined that there could be soo many layers to Brandon’s personality! The way he lives his early years is a testament to the good inside of him.
There are so many answers I need from the 2nd b part of this duo. This first part has brought up so many questions for me. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll keep them at bay for now. It will definitely help to remember his various actions in the previous Enigma Book. What I see in this one was a brave little boy. Who’s heart is in his eyes. Gripping
This is a good story so far because of the obviously very layered mystery that is pretty confusing to the reader because we are learning the clues and putting things together as they are unfolding to Brandon. I like a book that engages my mind in such a way that I am trying to figure the mystery out myself.
The relationship between Brandon and Melody is that of first love between children, then teenagers, then young adults. The things happening to Melody seem to much to be just bad luck. At the end of book 1, readers are likely going to be both full of sympathy for her, but also unhappy with the choice she made at the end.

Brandon and Melody!!!
Jeezo I didn't expect this story to hit so hard so fast. Every single heart string was tugged and a few ripped out aswell. How can 2 kids be subjected to such pain and suffering at such early ages.
Parents are supposed to always protect and love their children but this is not always the case and sometimes the best intentions are misguided.
One thing is for sure at least 2 if not 3 members of the McGhee family are absolutely evil.
Melody should have trusted her heart more her heart needs Brandon not heartache.
Can't wait till part 2 I need all the answers to all the questions.

If I’m being honest I wanted to mark this book down as I really dont like Brandon as a character based on the previous books. So its tricky being objective as we are learning howBrandon became an adult - so this is all back story to why hes such a dick as a adult. Jury’s is out whether I change my mind about him but book is filling in a lot of blanks so far. You cant read this series without starting at the very beginning as it just wont make sense. Safe to say Brandons family is serious fucked up.

This one is about Melody and Brandon and is just as powerful story as all the others from this author. They know each other since both of them were kids and the story shows their relationship beautifully.

Shandi didnt disappoint with the wow factor in this book. It's equally heartbreaking as it is amazing! My heart breaks for Brandon and Melody. And Joey .... man 😭 brace yourselves for this one guys ,, it's a rollercoaster of emotions
