I bought this book at a school book fair for my 3rd grader. He likes Astronomy. I wasn’t excited to get it. He didn’t like it much either. It seemed confusing.
Now my younger son turned to that age (3rd Grade) and he picked it up. He absolutely loves it and won’t put it down. He quotes from it quite constantly. He is excited about the constellations and we have discussions about personalities and predestiny. I am not sold on Astrology but these are great conversations. The book seems much easier to digest than I remember from years ago.
This was interesting. It is a juvenile book and I thought I would be able to learn about reading my birth chart. Well, even though this is a juvenile book it was very confusing to me. I finally gave up trying to understand this. I will have to go to someone who knows about this subject and get them to do my chart and then read it to me. Ascending and descending lines and what the actual hell is a house? And is that a good or bad thing? I know that song "when the moon is in the 7th house..." "then peace will guide the planets...". So I guess a house is a good thing? Or when the moon is in your house!? Uh....hmmm. I still don't get it.
This is a great book for beginners. I helps you understand the basics of zodiacs, planets, houses, and how to read your birth chart. I suggest keeping your birth chart beside you and flipping between the sections. It makes more sense to read it like “ok my rising sign is in-blank-“ and then go read it. “This planet is in this house” and then go flip to each of them. It makes much more sense to read it according to your birth chart rather than cover to cover. I’d almost suggest reading the section about your birth chart (at the end) first and then go through the other sections to learn what your birth chart means. Then you can read about the other zodiacs and things you’d like to learn more about.
I never knew that I would ever become interested in astrology, but this book was actually really interesting! I loved the illustrations and it felt very approachable based off of the easy terms and book size. Though it seemed short, there was so much information included and now I want to go and find my own birth chart to read! The signs, houses, planets, and other categories in the book were really cool and fun to read about! I can’t wait to get more into the subject!
This is a good intro to astrology for an upper elementary/middle school reading level. I appreciate the bright colors and infographic-style pages. Would definitely recommend for anyone's kids who are interested in astrology. Includes Glossary, Index, and About the Author pages at the end.
