In an instant, the world stopped. No electronics. No cell phones. No hope. An atomic blast meant to stave off an incoming asteroid on a fatal collision course with Earth goes terribly wrong. Atomic debris scatter the globe, pelting civilization until only ruins and anarchy is left.
40 Days. That’s how long it’ll take for the Atomic Fall to stop. The world will never be the same. Liam Hunt knows that better than anyone, being one of the military minds behind the life-saving attempt to keep humankind from extinction. When the lead general ignores his warnings, he knows it’s time to go to Plan B, because this is only the beginning. It’s a race for survival as Liam and his sister face hundreds of miles of ruined terrain. A rogue team of scientists and soldiers have established safety bunkers around the world and if Liam can make it in time, his family might just survive. Start running, because the countdown starts now.

There’s no way I have words to do this justice, but I’ll make an attempt anyway … Here goes:
Guys, THE SKY IS FALLING and as the author puts it: Start running, because the countdown starts now.

Post-apoc / dystopian / end-of-the-world are my absolute favorite types of reads, as someone who reads just about everything and still … this one wasn’t quite like any others I’ve read, and it was absolutely perfectly executed. Utter brilliance.
I completely could not put this down from the moment I picked it up. It’s a fast read, just chock-full of action, drama, excitement, uncertainty, betrayals, desperation, conspiracy, chaos ... It does an epic job of capturing the way humans can adapt rapidly as a result of a will to survive during unprecedented and challenging times.
It depicts people sinking to their absolute lowest, and at the same time, other people rising to demonstrate the very best humanity has to offer, while also giving the reader a glimpse at good people doing dark things, just to get by. Characters which were already expertly developed evolve on the fly, beautifully.
40 Days manages to depict several of the sort of scenarios you might expect to play out when the sky suddenly starts falling and a worldwide catastrophe hits, and some you likely didn’t expect, but that fit perfectly.
This will keep you on the edge of your seat, possibly prompt you to just quit things like real life responsibilities, sleeping, eating, etc. and I promise: you’ll have no regrets. Your heart will race and you’ll admire the writing and you’ll love some characters and absolutely loathe others all at the same time.
And? It’s plausible, all the while.
Fingers crossed I can watch this as a movie or series some day, it absolutely deserves to be on the screen.
ALL the stars. I can only give 5 here, and I don’t give 5-star ratings out very generously, as I’m pretty picky but, I’d give 10 to this one. ALL THE STARS.

“In a world of survival, everyone will change.”
Absolutely DYING for 40 Weeks … not in a cliffhanger kind of way though. This one does tie up pretty much as best as it can for the situation. But some things are a but ominous, as is the state of the world and there is absolutely a ton more that can (and likely will) happen. Will likely be reading this again … will listen if it comes out on audiobook. Definitely a new fave.

I've read a lot of books in the Post-Apocalypse genre. It's one of my favorite subjects. This book is not a good example of the genre. To start, I'm not a really picky reader about spelling, grammar, and writing structure. But this book is filled with errors and poor writing. I was really thrown off by having characters express inner thoughts using quotation marks! Bad dialogue, plot holes, logic gaps, and continuity errors abound. Action scenes are mostly good, but are not enough to offset the problems. I hate to be harsh in reviewing new and fairly new authors. But I do not consider this book to be professionally written or edited. The author should improve her craft before publishing more works.
I was interested in this book because it had an asteroid strike as a premise, so a bit different. Sadly, the science here is very weak. Even coming from the sun, there are ways to detect an object on approach so wouldn't be this big mystery until 40 days out. Most asteroids and meteorites have very little uranium etc in them and certainly nothing that would cause radioactive rain. An impact of the size described in the New York area, would have had a large impact wave and there would not have been news helicopters immediately in the area. The writing and editing had a lot of problems. There were typos and odd to incorrect usage of words (a lot of gaul should be gall unless the people were from the Roman area that became France; "aren't gonna shot anybody" should be shoot; the word stammered was used several times to convey movement and should have been staggered; the city of Deli is probably supposed to be New Delhi; "I worked the bottle open as I warbled to the milk."-no idea here unless it should be waddled to the milk; and this one-"The stranger toted a rifle at his chest as his globulous form broke the car’s low beams."-what?? The characters were just poorly developed and difficult to like at all. Liam goes from basket case to Rambo and back again with little in the middle. Jazz had some potential but just goes along. Joy caves into the comfort of impending motherhood without any regard as to the dire situations they encounter. Also no way would she be showing at about 10-11 weeks when they arrive in Georgia. Alice and Joey were sus from the beginning though Joey became the only character I cared about. Dave is just vile and I don't know why he ended up with his own story on the west coast. We only see Ned a little but of course, he has a super-secret extensive bunker. The main characters made terrible choices. Jazz with her dog to get Mom, but when Mom doesn't want to go to the bunker, leaves Mom and dog behind. The first traffic snarl, rather than try to find another route, Liam says let's walk hundreds of miles to Georgia. He encounters his lousy boss Dave and much to Liam's surprise Dave has family in the same small town in Georgia where Ned lives. Liam is cool with that. Liam and Joy are suspicious of Alice, yet let her guard Dave who had just tried to hijack Joy in their car. After that, they fail to keep Dave secured again and he gets away. They stay almost until impact day because Joy is worried about radioactivity (which is not a science thing here) yet we are to believe they make it in time. I managed to finish so don't feel I can give 1 star, but I won't continue.
This is the first asteroid apocalypse book that I've read. Pretty scary stuff. A little confusing at times. Different chapters for each characters roles. I really don't think that they'll survive the " big" one...but I guess I will see how that goes in book 2. All in all, this was a very entertaining read...a real page turner. It was one of those books that you just couldn't put down. Going to get book 2 today and hope no one comes to visit...it'd be very impolite of me to read instead of visit with them.
A promising start ….patchy storyline with conflicting facts throughout…and then book just stopped - left with loose ends everywhere, no ending, no closure nor cliffhanger…was as if Author simply ran out of steam…. Then I thought, maybe everything will be corrected and tied together in the sequel “40 Weeks”…….nay nay - not available anywhere!!
Totally disappointed……this could have been an incredible 2 book series…..however, the premise & promise is severely lacking
Loved the idea of meteor showers, radioactive fallout and bad guys all over the place. Liam and his family have a long drive fraught with danger to get to the brothers compound and safety. There’s plenty of adrenaline fuelled moments, murder and mayhem and and meteorites slamming down. I got lost a few times but in all a fairly good read.
This was such a quick read about a family trying to survive the next 40 days after the first meteor hit the planet. I can't wait to read the next one in the series.
Cliffhanger but good. Slow start with it picking up around chapter 3. Joy got on my nerves just a little but all things said this book kept me engaged.
It’s an excellent book and the meteor showers makes great reading. It’s so refreshing reading a book without zombies being the main attraction. It’s a brilliant start to a new series.
